I'm going to try it with the OC kernel. If not, I'm going back to stock for a bit.
Here's hoping we get a CM release soon!!!!!
Quick question about Froyo. I understand that it's supposed to be all that and a couple bags of chips... with flash and better processing and such. If we flash to a different version than the stock ROM that came on the phone, will we still be notified of the update through T-mobile when the official release happens? Or will they somehow know that we aren't running stock programming and say that we've voided our right to updates??
Sorry if that isn't the brainiest of questions. I'm new to androids and would rather not deal with anything that will cause heartache. I'm not asking if we ROOT the phone... I know that simply opens files and capabilities to users... I'm wondering if we flash to a different anything that modifies the system if they can see that and refuse to update us.

There is a possibility that it MIGHT work but i wouldn't try it because it might flash Euro bands and brick your device. Just wait a couple of hours (or tomorrow) because Eugene is working on creating compatibility for the Froyo rom to work on the Vibrant (possibly Captivate and other Galaxy S devices) without bricking and allowing flashing to previous ROMs.

Unless you love messing with Odin I'd seriously avoid playing with the International version because I'm guessing Odin and the stock rom is the only way to get it back to a US model.

So I have rooted my N1 and have cyanogen, when froyo comes out and I decide i want to try it out, do i have to upload the original rom and then upgrade? or what is the best way to do it? so i can go back to cyanogen if i decide i like it better? trying to keep it as simple as possible...Thanks!!!
You don't have to do anything. It will come out as an OTA, Cyanogen will get his hands on it immediately if not a few days before the release and it will be incorporated into his ROM. You will likely have an updated version from him based on Froyo including all his extra goodies before the stock OTA is even 100% rolled out [they usually do it over a couple days].

From Adobe. Check this out:
http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2010/04/moving_forward.html
We look forward to delivering Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, and then a general release in June. From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice.

Flash requires 2.2, so a "general release" in June would mean that 2.2 would arrive sometime before then or concurrently.
Either way, we (rooters) will get both much, much earlier.
Thanks paul. I hope theres a ton of youtube videos that come from that convention.
I hope froyo has this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae01yz5z99E
Also if you get bored, watch that video over again with closed captoning, very funny =)
I doubt google is bundling Flash with the AOSP code. That would mean adobe is making flash open source(not happening) or google is locking up android(not happening). With all the talk about decoupling the android OS, the chances of something like a video player being bundled to the main OS update happening are very very very minute.
Flash will be a separate .apk, but the OS will need the frameworks to support it.

It irritates me because he states it as a blatant fact, where it should be said as something less direct. It is a possibility.. but it isn't exactly set in stone to happen - especially with how Google has been so closed about this release.
Froyo being leaked would be a god send, but I won't be holding my breath, simply to be suffocated at the end.
Why do you guys think flash requires 2.2? It comes incorporated into 2.2 but if you have 2.1 you will be able to install the apk and be good. Adobe said flash is coming to android 2.0 and above.

I credit this to the lack of good stickies in this forum. Ok maybe I should change the word "good" to "useful" stickies. But there really should be a good Q&A sticky to answer everybody's question so that they don't ask it again in a new thread. For example: how many posts have you seen recently that ask "how do I root my phone?".. not many (unless its people panicing because they think they've bricked their phone) and thats because of that sticky at the top. I'm sure Paul will put together a guide (someday) and it will be at the top in no time.
Mod edit: I will pass your suggestion to the responsible forum mods.
World Release! Android 2.2 FROYO on the Samsung Galaxy S. Tomorrow 12 o'clock'. AMSTERDAM
twitter.com/SamsungFirmware
At the look of this I suspect that getting 2.2 sent OTA for the Vibrant shouldn't be too far behind.
This is awesome, I heard the vibrant is supposed to get froyo early august. I am impressed with samsung, they are ready stepping up.

I'm pretty sure read somewhere on the forums that confirmed that even if you root it, you should still receive OTA's. However, might want to find someone that could confirm that. I'm about to go pick up my Vibrant, im so excited!

I don't see why rooting should stop you from getting the update.
If you have done more than just rooting, then I'm assuming you might have trouble getting the OTA update. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
EDIT: By "more than just rooting", I mean if you have installed a custom bootloader or a custom rom.
Cool beans!

Yeah, but if you install it, you will lose root. There will be a modified rom that's rooted VERY shortly after it is released though (Probably before many get the OTA update).
Wow, that was quick! Glad to see Samsung is following through with their promise and fast.
Hopefully the Vibrant will get a release in early August.
if this also includes a GPS fix, i'll be picking up a vibrant within the next week or two... after i pay AT&T my last payment on that contract. whoo!!

there should be no reason for those who rooted to not recieve an ota update. however, if you flashed a custom kernal/radio then those ota's might've been disabled.

1. most people were satisfied when leaks started popping up
2. most people are waiting on samsung to release the 2.2 source (which samsung has 60 days to do so)
I think people were simply pissed at the audacity of the companies to hang us out to dry. Or we would have taken it up the ace had we not had these unofficial releases. I believe they felt abandoned and jerked around by a company they invested money in... so while i am glad they finally give an ounce of support i am happy running nero. And don't much care for stock i am excited to see how this affects our custom roms though!

Updating to the Official 2.2 release has more of an impact on the millions of users who aren't on XDA. I was frustrated while I was on stock 2.1 mainly due to some issues with the bluetooth stack and some other quirks that Samsung put in. But I have finally rooted and customized my Vibrant (Nero5), so I am quite happy and don't want to deal with the headache that is minikies.
The only thing that I think I am missing on a custom ROM is audio out support for my Samsung Home Dock, but it isn't enough for me to try the official release at this point, because:
a) I don't know for certain that the feature is there
b) Not convinced that Samsung got it right.
Does anyone know of a list of features and bug fixes that are included in this release from T-Mobile beyond what is included in the general 2.2 update?

Source release is legally required by the GPL (GNU Public License), which the Linux Kernel uses. Android uses said kernel. There is also the Apache license for Android, which has certain requirements.

It was released back on July 30, 2010.
I am very happy that froyo is here, now or at least soon the devs can optimize the kernal uv/oc and such. I won't be flashing stock on as nero is so much better. The thing is Samsung has left a bitter taste in my mouth, a little communication with its customers would have gone a long way. As it is the release of froyo seems as much a PR move as a delivery of a long over due promise. Got to think long and hard about any Samsung perchase in the future.

Yep its an update over kies. Yea it is safe, but someone did suggest they had a problem with frying SDcards. I only read that posted by one person about the telus update. I don't know if it is the case.
Well it will bring your phone to stock, so you will loose things like custom recovery, root, or anything else that normally don't come with stock.
Currently there is a method to gain root again, not as simple as the oneclick method, but not really any more difficult either. Clockworkmod is not available yet, but I doubt it will be long before something is available.
You need to be on stock froyo from telus to update, I disabled lagfix, and unrooted when I done mine. Not sure if both were required, but I did it anyways.
Hope this helps.

Same boat like you. And I find it really strange and odd that AT&T version is starting to see real leaks and not the Original Samsung Note. Unless samsung is taking its time so they can release a good product. My understanding is that the AT&T leak has nothing special at all.
I thought the ICS for the Note wasn't going to come until late May/early June?
We should be able to tell from this release what Samsung will have changed/messed up from the ics vanilla

Did anyone think to consider that Samsung may be just as far along (if not further) with officially releasing ICS for the N7000? I mean, we're talking about a "leak" here, which means a Samsung insider had to have "leaked" the build.
I guess what I'm saying is, the N7000 team may just be less leaky than the AT&T Note team. We'll get ICS when we get it.
I just hope someone can cook a ROM that uses tablet mode... Maybe take elements of the 7.7 HC build and port them over to the ICS Note?
It doesnt matter to me really since I love this phone and wouldnt want another with a smaller screen..
Although it would be nice to have some kind of leak..Maybe I could finally have netflix on ICS..
