Android 2.3 Gingerbread Available for the Telus Samsung Fascinate 3G+ - http://t.co/UrXxaRN #android
Is it rootable?
I don't think it will be rootable til someone makes a rom out of it. Should be shortly if people are still making roms for it. Mine is Verizon Fascinate. No Gingerbread yet.

The Telus and VZW Fascinate share similarities in mostly just name. GSM vs CDMA, it's not going to be of much help.

Yep its an update over kies. Yea it is safe, but someone did suggest they had a problem with frying SDcards. I only read that posted by one person about the telus update. I don't know if it is the case.
Well it will bring your phone to stock, so you will loose things like custom recovery, root, or anything else that normally don't come with stock.
Currently there is a method to gain root again, not as simple as the oneclick method, but not really any more difficult either. Clockworkmod is not available yet, but I doubt it will be long before something is available.
You need to be on stock froyo from telus to update, I disabled lagfix, and unrooted when I done mine. Not sure if both were required, but I did it anyways.
Hope this helps.

Hmm, I might wait a bit then. What I really want is CM anyway so I wouldn't want to hurt my chances/make it harder getting it when/if it comes out.

At the look of this I suspect that getting 2.2 sent OTA for the Vibrant shouldn't be too far behind.
This is awesome, I heard the vibrant is supposed to get froyo early august. I am impressed with samsung, they are ready stepping up.
Do you think we would still get the update if we rooted the vibrant?

I'm pretty sure read somewhere on the forums that confirmed that even if you root it, you should still receive OTA's. However, might want to find someone that could confirm that. I'm about to go pick up my Vibrant, im so excited!

I don't see why rooting should stop you from getting the update.
If you have done more than just rooting, then I'm assuming you might have trouble getting the OTA update. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
EDIT: By "more than just rooting", I mean if you have installed a custom bootloader or a custom rom.
Cool beans!

Yeah, but if you install it, you will lose root. There will be a modified rom that's rooted VERY shortly after it is released though (Probably before many get the OTA update).
Wow, that was quick! Glad to see Samsung is following through with their promise and fast.
Hopefully the Vibrant will get a release in early August.
if this also includes a GPS fix, i'll be picking up a vibrant within the next week or two... after i pay AT&T my last payment on that contract. whoo!!

Hope so! though t mobile will want to get their hands on it before we see an OTA, of course once a vibrant/captive compatible version hits the internet, we will see a flash ready in no time.
great news!
lol. saw this thread and looked at my twitter tab and the tweet was there waiting for me.
awesome. too bad this isn't for the vibrant. right? just the international?
Non OTA related
This is not official in any capacity. How is this related to OTA release when feed is hosted by samsung-firmware.webs ?
This is so awesome thanks for the info.
SAMSUNG BEAST VIBRANT ™ XDA APP
there should be no reason for those who rooted to not recieve an ota update. however, if you flashed a custom kernal/radio then those ota's might've been disabled.
Anyone noticed this?

I'm going to try it with the OC kernel. If not, I'm going back to stock for a bit.
Here's hoping we get a CM release soon!!!!!
Quick question about Froyo. I understand that it's supposed to be all that and a couple bags of chips... with flash and better processing and such. If we flash to a different version than the stock ROM that came on the phone, will we still be notified of the update through T-mobile when the official release happens? Or will they somehow know that we aren't running stock programming and say that we've voided our right to updates??
Sorry if that isn't the brainiest of questions. I'm new to androids and would rather not deal with anything that will cause heartache. I'm not asking if we ROOT the phone... I know that simply opens files and capabilities to users... I'm wondering if we flash to a different anything that modifies the system if they can see that and refuse to update us.

There is a possibility that it MIGHT work but i wouldn't try it because it might flash Euro bands and brick your device. Just wait a couple of hours (or tomorrow) because Eugene is working on creating compatibility for the Froyo rom to work on the Vibrant (possibly Captivate and other Galaxy S devices) without bricking and allowing flashing to previous ROMs.

Nobody knows with any certainty one way or the other. Anything you hear or read is pure speculation.
So far, we know...
NOTHING.
I would say they'd just skip it, they've spent about a year on froyo for us, and nexus s already has gingerbread, so.... yeah.
so far we know nothing
That was in Canada on Bell's Vibrant.
Seeing how I'm running a leaked T-Mobile branded Froyo Rom, I think it's coming.

they pulled the update for Bells Vibrant (which is essentially more of an AT&T Captivate) and not pulled for good.
I was assured by Samsung through the form of a tweet that they guaranteed 2.2 before the new year or end of December.
But we all know how there release dates go.
That's why I flashed onyx

Nexus s doesn't run touchwiz or any of T-Mobile. Carrier Apps, so that phone having Ginger really doesn't mean much, tbh. Hey the drivers work? Whoopdy-doo...
I'm assuming Google is smart enough to keep the Android kernel decently backward compatible, so I don't think that is the brunt of the issue (correct me if I'm wrong, though).

Hello,
I am planing on the Atrix for august when I will be in the US,
And I wonder- do you think the Bootloader will be cracked untill then?
Or Motorola Unlock it/ update to- 2.4?
Thank You,

I wanted to know as well...
Sigh, August is way to long...
wow it sound really pessimistic.
I am following the DEVS thread and it looks like they found something and soon the will find a way to hack this...
they havent posted in the bootloader thread in a couple of days, so i dont know whats going on. its killing me too.
i cant make heads or tales of what they have done as of yet, but i can say that it looks better for us now that they have a way to recover (the sbf) if they mess something up. a lot of things things they can try now that they may not have wanted to before, for fear of brick
Not really pessimistic, just neutral. We can make guesses but there is no way to be certain the loader will be broken or whether motorola will give up and unsign it. They have stated we will get 2.3 for sure, but 2.4 is a toss up still.

Well thats sucks.
2.3 doesn't bring any important changes, and it does take time to make the update.
waste of time..
well it just means that if the devs here won't get to bootloader hacked the milestone story will be back.

Who cares about 2.3? 2.4 is what everyone's after...
GPU-accelerated UI and Browser
Built-in Gtalk video chat support
Multi-language browser support
And as Matias Duarte implied, all the Honeycomb design changes will be in 2.4
So who cares about 2.3? Not me. If the Atrix isn't released unsigned in Canada, and unless the XDA hacks it, I will be going for the Nexus S, and sticking with the Nexus line for the next few years...
Hard to speak about 2.4, as we don't have much of a clue about it. But loading custom kernels and the like is really making me re-think the decision about buying the Atrix...
Not to be a downer in this thread, but I wouldn't hold your breath for the unlocked bootloader, but it is nice that some fresh minds are going at it.
With that said, the devs for the D2 and DX have been able to set the users up with a good amount of customization.

HE GOT A WAY TO PASS THE BOOTLOADER!!!!
HOPE HE WILL PUBLISH A WAY TO PASS IT SOON!!!
Its still being tested but DA G has had some success. No one else has posted anything else. I think the reason the bootloader thread has been quiet is because there in an irc were they can talk easier. We prob wont hear anythkng new until they have made some progress. I'm just glad we have the sbf file. That's a big step. Ill be happy if we can get motoblur removed.

UPDATE: 4/11/2011
As of my original post, there has been some interest on getting this issue resolved, by donation offerings and a developer has even offered his time on working on this issue for us.
Attn1 has offered his time to try to figure out the rooting issue with the Froyo update from HTC/AT&T due to the hboot lock.
All we need is for someone to offer up their phone with the latest Froyo update so we can send it to attn1 to see if he can get it to root. I see that a couple of you guys have offered their phones already. I will be contacting you guys to see if we can come up with plan on getting attn1 a phone. I might just use my son's phone if he is willing to part with it for a while.
Update 4/14/2011
Attn1 is going to find a work around out of the kindness of his heart and does not want any compensation. This is what I love about the Android community, there is alway someone willing to help out solve problems without asking for anything in return. Attn1, you might not want are money, but please except our Thanks!
Thank again and keep an eye out for updates.

I would be willing to donate. As much as I love my Aria, right now I've had it. AT&T really knows how to take a perfectly great phone and turn it to s#%* with all their crapware.
I just didn't realize I wouldn't be able to go back to being rooted.
You might try buying an Aria with 2.1 so you can root it and sell your 2.2. Should be within a few bucks of even money and you can get ability to root back.

Good idea,hehe!
Buying a new phone would be an excellent idea if it was in the budget.
I guess we all fell for to the old upgrade trap! I was hoping to get this resolved, so I could root and update my son's phone to a cleaner/leaner ROM, like CM7. I have a contract renewal in June, so I guess my son will just have to wait. Oh well! :/
Regrets
Regrets to all that have upgraded to Froyo 2.2 using RUU method. I am confident that with the brain trust of talented developers out there it won't be long before someone finds away to reverse the upgrade. Until then we wait and hope....

For your wife, throw Liberated Aria Froyo on her phone with either the stock kernel (provided in the Liberated Aria Froyo thread) or Gene Poole's hoxnet_004b kernel and call it a day. Liberated Aria Froyo is totally unbranded, meaning no logos and no crapware. Plus it keeps things familiar for her since it uses Sense.
I would be willing to donate aswell. My brother wants to root his phone but updated before he knew any better.
