Hi everyone,
For the last few days, I've been having a problem with my HD2.
When I press the power button to lock the screen and turn off the display, one or two seconds later, the phone turns it back on again.
I had just flashed the new NRG Rom, so thought that may have been an issue. I reflashed with a different Rom, and had the same problems. To make sure I wasn't overlooking something, I reflashed the original official rom, and done a hard reset.
The problem was still there last night. Even when the screen dimmed after 30 seconds, a few seconds later it would come back to the original brightness.
I did notice, however, that it doesn't do it when it was plugged in to USB or when charging. I'm trying to drain my battery, in case it's an issue that is only occurring when the battery falls below a certain level - although I don't know why it would do this.
So far today, it's not done it. Although I'm not sure whether that's because my phone was charging all night. I just wondered whether anyone else has had this problem before?
Another thing I've noticed is that I used to have a radio with .50. However, after I flashed one of the first roms, I now seem to have a .51 radio. I was told that the .51 radios can sometimes cause problems. Is it likely that this could be causing the issue?
Thanks for any help you can offer!
I'm having the same problem with stock vodafone Rom. I can solve it by plugging my HD2 in the charger, lock the device with the power button. The screen stays off and it will stay off when i unplug the device.
Unfortunately the issue keeps coming back about once a day.

Always fine to read that you're not the only one with a stange issue
Finally I had to flash back to stock to get rid of it. First went back to my stock radio and than SPL 1.42. Than reflashed the original ROM from HTC.
Problems for me are gone now. I got no clue if it solved the problem on the long run. Till now it proved my suspicion that HSPL in combination with the USB hardware/drivers caused the problem.

ENERGY roms are not compatible with the .51 radios. If you had a .51 radio and flashed energy, the phone would get stuck at the boot screen.

I somehow decided to re-flash a new version of the T-Mobile RUU. There were a lot of random apps clogging the memory, so I went ahead and installed 4.26.531.4 from HTC's official site by entering my IMEI. A couple of hours afterward, I noticed my battery drop from ~75% to critical, below 5%. I thought maybe its drained from the re-flash, so I let it charge overnight. The next day, I began use, only to notice the down hard key on the circular d-pad no longer working, and the screen scrolling downwards whenever I attempt anything (Almost as if the button was jammed) I soft reset, then hard reset to no avail, but since I wasn't home, couldn't attempt anything. The phone lost all battery power within 2 hours, and it has been doing so for the past couple of days. The screen now flickers at will even when it has been locked, as if the button is being pressed. How can I fix this to the way it should be? Is the RUU buggy? Thanks for help in advance...

try to flash it again, or do a hard reset.
but,on my opinion, you'd better move to one of ttran's rom.they're by far better than official rom.
Do you think its the rom causing the problem? Could it be hardware failure? Thanks for the reply.
bump.......
possible buggy rom try another rom if it does the same thing then hardware failure

A number of times, after doing a shutdown and restart, or a soft reset, the phone radio will not restart. It can't even be restarted by going to the Comm manager and trying to turn it on there. Bluetooth will start, as will WiFi, but not the phone.
I had the problem with the phone originally. Installed a program, did a restart, and no phone. Restarted a couple of times...even removed the program (assuming it had something to do with the program I'd installed). Did a Hard Reset, still no phone. Called tech support...not suggestions.
So I did an HPSL, and when the phone restarted (no new ROM yet), the phone radio restarted. Later, just turned off, and back on a minute or two later...the problem returned. So, I flashed a ROM from here. Radio started fine. Installed a couple of CABs (not the same as the first program), and when on required a restart...bam, problem returns.
And each time it restarts with the phone radio not working, it freezes a lot. When the phone radio is on, I don't have that problem.
Now here's the really weird part. If I leave the phone off for 15 minutes or so, then it seems it will restart fine. Is there something I'm missing? Is there a potential problem with the phone. I've just had it a couple of days, and if it's deffective, I want to return it before the 14 days are up.
Otherwise, I love the phone, but can anyone help or offer suggestions?
if it is happening across multiple roms, I'd say hardware fault, go for an exchange.
It should never have a problem with the radio restarting, or turning on. It's defective for sure.
From what I can tell, the radio rom on some HD2's are faulty. My problem isn't as bad as yours but still I'm getting this thing replaced. There should be no time ever in the middle of Manhattan that I have "G" instead of "3G".
Hello
My HD2 Worked well for a long time, but now everytime I press the "sleep" key it turns off for half a second then turns back on and proudly displays the lockscreen without me pressing anything. There is no way to turn the screen off and go in standby mode anymore.
Obviously the battery drains so much faster from not being able to have the screen off and this silly problem actually makes the phone unusable
I flashed a few roms using HardSPL and now HSPL2. I'm currently running Artemis 11.0, the problem appeared may days after flashing while using Artemis ROM 9.0. A hard reset seemed to fix it but the problem reappeared. Today flashing 11.0 only solved the problem at first boot.
Anyone had that before? Not sure if it's software/rom related or not anymore. HELP
As far as Ive seen, its only you an me who have had this problem so far.
Honestly, Im relieved to see someone else with this problem.
I had exactly as you described, but using Axlor roms.
It worked fine for 1/2months, then all of a suddon the screen backlight wouldnt go off, but a reset fixed it.
But it got worse and worse.
Now nothing will work...
Ive taken everything back to stock, and i mean EVERYTHING! Not a single app installed.
And I still have this problem. I've tried it all.
I think its a warrenty job....
EDIT:
I also noticed the backlight will go off fine when the phone is charging, is that the same for you?
I just sent the phone off to Tmob today, to see if they can fix/replace it.
I'll keep you informed.
Same problem. Was running fine on stock ROM 1.66 then backlight did not dim and would not go into standby. Put into standby, screen goes off then straight back on to the lock screen. Since then have had other problems at boot, sometimes it locks on HTC white screen needing battery removal, sometimes launches straight into Navipanel and will not exit, HTC sense homescreen sometimes launches in landscape and will not go into normal portrait mode. Reflashed with different ROM's same symptoms persist so have returned to Vodafone UK under warranty, fingers crossed.
i've had this on early versions of the rom i use, the chef fixed it, making me think its the software, not your phone.
I experienced this issue when I minimised a game called virtual pool. Closing it in task manager would then allow me to permanently make the phone sleep.

I too have had the navi panel problem.
Im praying they fix mine under warrenty
Yes the problem is exactly what you describe, hard reset and flashing to a stock rom doesn t fix it with no programm running in the background
Navipanel seems to be on randomly sometimes so can I guess it could be related.
I found a fix, after starting the phone, plugging and unplugging the usb cable to the phone WHILE THE SCREEN IS ON fixes it but only until the next restart
Considering sending it for warranty now.
Thanks for replies! If anybody knows more let us know
Update re standby problem
Got my phone back from Vodafone UK today. Was advised software corrupted and that they had reflashed and it had been fully tested and was now working fine.
On power up (even without SD card or SIM) it had exactly the same fault as before, when put into sleep mode the screen comes back on after about 1 second.
I tried the plug in and remove USB lead fix and this also works for me until the next restart so it would seem that this must be a hardware problem.

Thanks for this workaround. Now with the urgency gone hopefully somebody finds a lasting solution without the need of sending it in..
I have same problem guys after 4 months using. ...and my HD2 is unusable with no standby. I mean battery gets weak during 2-3 hours. Whats your guess guys is it software problem. Cause Im afraid of this is hardware prob because after reset goes my device in wrong state.
Help!
Sadly I'm running into this same error with my t-mobile hd2....getting serious power drain...can anyone confirm if the task 29 helped at all? Mine won't stay off for more than 30 seconds.
** Found out the google easy sms beta app I was running had a service which was causing the app to come out of standby...uninstalling this app cured the problem.
For me, it was a sd slot problem. When i removed the sd card, phone always waked up after 0.5 seconds, and card was detected as bad.
Now the SD slot was changed (under guarranty) and it work fine, no wake up if sd slot is empty.
Any update on this? My HD2 starting doing this today as well
And I have no usb cable at work to 'trick' it. The only option is to pull the battery which I don't want to do. This is ridiculous. Am I going to have to hard-reset the damn thing to fix it?
FYI I didn't do *ANYTHING* to my phone in a couple of weeks (no new apps, etc.) and it started doing this out of the blue.
You hit the red 'end call' button and it goes black..then comes right back on.
The odd thing is it *thinks* its plugged in because the only screen setting I can get it to acknoweldge is the 'backlight level when charging'. So somehow my phone thinks its plugged in even though my only usb cable is back home.
Grrr. No registry tweaks or temp files I can delete to reset this behavior?
My cousins SGS is having some issues. Last night the battery died, since then the following problem has arisen. The screen turns on for one second then turns off for one second then turns on for one second and so on repeatedly. Even when the phone is locked. No new apps have been installed. We have cleared the RAM. Turned the phone off and removed the battery for a few minutes and re-inserted, but still hasn't solved the problem. Factory reset still hasn't fixed it.
Will flashing to another rom eg Doc, potentially solve the problem? She doesnt really want to send it back to Samsung as it will result in the phone gone for a month or so.
She is running the stock DTJG4 rom (Australian 2.1), no lag fixes, not rooted.
Any ideas?
Bump. Anyone? Could it be a hardware issue?
yikes.. i think its a hardware problem... but just in any case try reflashing with odin to confirm this..
I have noticed 2 problems that only seem to have occurred after upgrading my Nexus 4 to Android 4.4.
Sometimes, for no apparent reason, the phone will simply refuse to charge. At first I thought it might be the micro USB port going dodgy but I've ruled out a hardware issue since simply rebooting the phone fixes the issue every time. I've also tried different chargers to see if that made any difference.
The second issue is that when the phone has finished charging the phone screen turns on (as it has always done), the problem is that every 2 or 3 minutes it flashes on again, and again, and again. So at night my phone screen is constantly turning itself on and off. I always thought it was stupid that the screen turns on when it has charged or removed from the charger and wish I could turn that off anyway.

Stock ROM, unlocked but not rooted. I haven't tried resetting due to the hassle of having to reinstall all my apps and setting everything up again.
Hmmm.. Is there any way the apps and it's settings be backed up EXACTLY like how they are and then restore after factory resetting the device?
Not to mention, all this WITHOUT root and being COMPLETELY stock?
