[Q] TCH Touch HD Program install problem - Touch HD General

Hi.
I got a problem with my HTC Touch HD.
It's running on the stock Rom Windows Mobile 6.1 and i tried yesterday to install
[Glossy Themed Eclair(2.0.1]+[Android 2.1 with SENSE (beta).. NEW BUILD (08/04/2010)

I installed it on a clean 8 Gb SD card and ran harriet once. After att bootup sequence the phone went black so i did a soft reset and pulled the SD card.
Since then whenever i am in normal Windows Mobile i can't run most of my installed programs.
And i cannot uninstall or reinstall new or old programs. When i try to install a program it goes so far as to accept the certificate for the program but stopps directly after that with an error message that says the program did not install.
Any ideas on what the problem is. I would like to avoid a hard reset. I did a backup of most of the stuff on the phones internal memory but not all of it.
Thanks Imposter.

...
make sure you backed up you files, contacts, mag etc
hard reset..
format sd.. (fat32)
put only android on sd (not in a folder)
complete startup settings (wm)
run android
select blackstone
install to sd
wait for android to boot
it takes about 15-20mins (blackstone)
then screen goes black
wait for a vibration
it will boot android to a lock screen
wait for everything to boot up.. (operator etc)
unlock..

Well that's just the problem i cannot backup my files because i cannot install any programs like SPB Backup to do a backup. I can manually via ActiveSync copy files but then i won't get everything like i would with a backup program.

just back up what you can via active sync..
you WILL need to hard reset or reflash..
or
try uninstall everything if you can??

All the files are gone!

Hi Guys,
The strangest thing just happened. I'm on panic right now.
I left the phone unattended for a couple of hours today and when I came back I notice that the start menu was EMPTY, and when I say empty I mean completely empty.
So I soft-reset the device and is still the same. So I plug the phone with the PC and browse the device over ActiveSync and
ALL THE FILES ARE GONE FROM THE MEMORY, STORAGE AND SD CARD.
All the folders are still there, but they are empty. Only the files are gone!
I had a back-up of everything but the STORAGE (big-storage mod). Does anyone any idea on how to recover the files? Is this possible?
I tried to search on the forums, and I couldn't find anything on this.
I don't know if this might be related but a week ago I upgraded the ROM and used the BIG Storage mod.
My phone details are
Qtek S100
ROM: 1.13.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks!
I'm guessing this means you don't use a backup program? It sounds like you'll have to hard reset the phone to recover to a basic startup condition. As for the card you can probably recover all that is on it using an inexpensive recovery program such as Photo Rescue(yes it recovers more than just photos). I've used Photo Rescue to recover a couple of different cards to my computer and then retransfer the information to my phone. Try the trial version at http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/download.htm There are other programs that will recover your card, just Google file recovery and try a couple.
If you are using a backup program on your card, hard reset the phone and use a file explorer to start your backup program. I sometimes have to run my backup twice to get everything back as it should be.

Was there some kind of not properly licensed software installed?

I was using Sprite Backup, but turned out that by default it won't backup the contents of the Storage folder. I changed the settings and from now and go on it will do ;-)

I already recovered all my data from the SD card using OnTrack Easy Recovery Pro. Great and powerful soft.

To tell the truth the last soft I used was a new Sudoku game that I was "trying out" before purchasing. So this might have been the "killer"
Anyway, I had an old backup on some CD, so after a Hard Reset and some work, everything is back to normal now, or I hope so.
Thanks for the replies.
lol
i can tell you for sure it was that sudoku game you installed.. it waits till you play.. when you cleared one puzzle it crashes and deletes everything exept the folders.. even on your sd card..
That is the risk of downloading illegal stuff..

Funny, how can the data in storage(which is NAND ROM) gets erased by itself. I m hearing this for the first time in my life
It seemed some evil (not properly registered) software deleted all the files as "punishment". He was able to recover files with an undelete tool.
So you still have to wait for NAND ROM forget its data for the first time

Windows to detect programs on storage card after rom update?

Is there any way I can make Windows detect or recognize programs on the storage card after a rom update? without having to reinstall them again..?
thanks!
of course you cant, you have to install them once again.
depends, if it will run from the storage card simply make new shortcuts, depends how many u have to do and how easy to hand the cab files are i guess
i usually keep all my cab files in a "cabs" folder on my sd card incase i need to redo my phone if i'm away from my pc. it helps if i'm at work and it starts acting up.
It also might not be a bad idea to keep a backup of your wizard on the sd card with just the programs (and if you havean exchange server) already installed on it, that way a quick, fresh start doesn't involve a lot of work.

Any program on the storage card will run after the ROM update as long as it is not one that needs to write registry changes or dll's to the registry itself.
I have approximately 50 apps installed to my storage card. After doing a ROM flash/upgrade, I only have to reinstall around 10 of them. You'll just need to try launching each one from the card to see if it will work without reinstalling to find out which ones will work and which ones won't.
well i wanted to know because i just recently upgraded to nbd 7.0 and some programs i want isnt detecting in htc home plugin...

Soft installation - Device or SD?

Hello,
I have got question about soft installation. I have always problem to decide where should I install software. If I was able I would install all in device memory which as HTC Touch user unfortunetaly I am short of.
So what I am doing is:
- Installing as few software as I can (If You dont need it, dont install it)
- All "Today" plugins on device
So as for now I have 90% of my software installed on device and have 3MB of free space
Once I have tried to install only "Today" plugin (I am using SPB Pocket Plus) on device and rest on SD card, but I had freezes after every soft reset. I read somewhere that after boot, device first load device memory and then SD, so if device trying to load program from SD after soft-reset, which is not mapped (visible) yet device freezes.
My question is where do You install software, and what can be installed on SD for sure and I will be not getting freezes/errors.
Regards,
Brachson

This is usually a good idea.

Here's an idea for you. Look for programs that are in Windows/Startup. If any of these are installed in the SD then they might be what are causing your problems.

[Q] [q] help! Win7 installed- sd card ruined

i managed to get win7 running & followed all the steps to activate live except for calling microsoft which i plan to do in the morning but i have realized when installing win 7 it didnt integrate my sd card, so i now have hardly any space left...is there anything i can do to fix this? will i need to uninstall win 7 , reinstall 6.5 then reinstall win 7? there has got to be an easier way right? any way to get a new sd card? i am new to this ..any help would be greatly appreciated
When botting WP7 hold vol up and down then vol down do a hard reset with the memory in it you gonna have to do eveything again but you wont have to istallled it
so if i do that reset will i be back to a win6.5 phone or will it have saved the win7 os & hspl files etc.

You are effectively doing a factory reset of WP7 so it will boot to a virgin copy of WP7.
As to whether you could replace the SD card and have it work properly from a hard reset, not sure. I know WP7 seems to use the card as an extension to the file system but I'd have thought that it did this as part of the install process so if you find a card that plays nicely with WP7 you'd still need to reinstall. Not certain though.
