Win 7 problem - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hello, I have windows 7 64bit, the problem that i have is: When i connect the pc with the pda(win MO 6.5), mobile device starts up and keeps looking untill he says error instead of connecting. I also see that my pda is recognized as a generic serial.
I allready tried:
soft reset
hard reset
updating windows
removing WMDC+reinstall
unchekking faster synchronisation in USB settings
none of these actually work. The device works ok on my xp mce laptop, but i prefer the style of wmdc, so anyone had a solution?

There are alot of incompatibility issues with WIN7.
Sorry I don't have a solution, but Vista and WMDC works for me, I haven't tried WIN7 though because of this issue.

Probably but my previous phone(htc elf) worked perfect on WMDC, in every flash but this one is freaking me out.

The issue is more with WIN7 than WMDC.
I have seen users not able to flash ROMs or HSPL, etc, once they go to an XP machine everything's good.
I know how frustrating it is....

It is indeed a very furstrating issues. I keep about a 250mb partition of super lite xp on my hdd just to flash, although the version of 7 i put on my laptop has worked with about 5 different winmo devices perfectly.

I have been using Win7 since the upgrade was available on my Pure without any known issues.

I had intermittant problems with active sync, or whatever it is called on Win 7, and my solution was to uncheck 'Enable faster data synchronization'
Goto to Settings => Connections => USB to PC and uncheck 'Enable faster data synchronization'

I think Win 7 will sync with your phone ONLY if you have Outlook installed and working.
Without Outlook, Sync is a great problem.
PMoto

I have Windows 7 32-bit
Some soft installed:
MS Outlook, MS Note, Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows 7.
No problem.

OfCourse, you have MS Outlook, so it works allright!

I have office 2007, so that isn't the problem

Outlook is configured and working?

I had a similar problem in my XP and solved after re-installing ActiveSync. But since you said you have tried uninstalling WDMC, maybe it's a different problem. I'm using Win 7 64-bit to but have never got the problem. Maybe you can try if the device can be deleted in the device manager. Or re-install win 7...

i am on win 7 64-bit....have ms office 2007 w/o outlook....my phone works fine w/ WDMC...on my phone, "enable faster data synchroonization" is checked.

I had this same problem. All I did was update the drivers with the WMDC/driver update from the accompaning CD. I am using 32 bit Windows 7. All is well now.

WM6 does NOT sync with Vista running OUtlook 2003/2007

I just got a new laptop running Vista and I am just having tremendous issue trying to sync my Sprint Mogul (HTC Titan) to Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC --> ActiveSync replacement in Vista) and Outlook 2007.
Basically, when I connect my Mogul via USB (NO Bluetooth), the device shows that it is connected for syncing to the laptop. But WMDC shows "connecting..." all the time and just not syncing. The only way to do this is to reboot the laptop.
The same phone sync just find to a Windows XP machine. I have tried the following but to NO AVAIL:
- Disable "Enhanced network USB function" in the device (Start -> Settings -> Connection -> USB to PC
- Remove all background services in the laptop, like Anti Virus, Vista Sidebar, Spy Sweeper.
BTW, my Mogul is running WM6, no custom ROM or anything.
Does anyone have the same issue and can provide me with the solution? It seems Vista and WMDC just breaks everything.
what does sync center say?? I'd try going into WMDC and unchecking all the sync content and seeing if it will connect...chances are theres something that it's trying to sync and it won't....I've also ran into a problem recently where outlook must be open for it to sync properly...you can try that.
There are 2 WMDC applications:
WMDC (Start -> Programs): just say connecting
Sync Center (on Taskbar): when I double click, under "View Sync Partnership", it just say "Disconnected"
I always run Outlook 2007 before Sync, so I suspect something else in Vista causing it.
I have tried a fresh Vista install, and it sometimes work, sometimes doesn't.
What I found out is like this:
1) Start Vista and Outlook
2) Connect device to WMDC - WORK
3) Disconnect, but Outlook remain
4) Reconnect - DOESN'T WORK

I have Vista and Outlook 2007 and never had a problem with syncing. I just tried the 4 steps you outlined and it worked when I first connected my Mogul and also when I reconnected the Mogul. What version of WMDC are you running? I have 6.1.6965.
I usually don't run Outlook before doing a sync. I've never had a problem with this either way.
2 Things
I know you said that it shows something about being connected, but have you gone to My Computer and tried to access your device? This will help determine if its just not being recognized by the system properly, or if the sync software is hosed.
Additionally, try searching here or on ppcgeeks.com for the "update vista drivers". I didn't need them - but apparently some folks did. Depending on how long you've had Vista, and/or whether or not you've done M$ Windows updates, I'm thinking your driver could be hosed.
I too have Vista - and I can sync just fine as well as transfer files back & forth through My Computer. I also sync the same device up with an additional computer (how sweet is that? I wish iTunes would freakin' work like that one of these days!) that's on XP.
Would love to help more if need be. I'll be around Saturday if you want to PM and try going over your settings vs mine or something.
Sometimes I have to connect my mogul up to 6 times before it connects properly to my Vista laptop. I now always open device manager before connecting the mogul. It doesn't connect properly until the Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter driver installs correctly under Network Adapters AND the pocketpc driver installs correctly under portable devices. And it is very wierd because sometimes it works on the first try, and other times like I said b4 it can take up to 6 tries before it works right. I have looked up the error codes that it generates in the Event logs and there are a lot of people who are having the exact same issue, so I chalk it up to a Vista problem and hopefully it will get better after SP1 is released.

How did you get this MS Windows Mobile Remote Adapter and Driver? Windows Update or manual download link?
I don't know how to set my ppc-6800 (same as Mogul) to sync my contacts and e-mails with outlook 2007. When i connect it to my PC, it appears in my computer and i can browse in and transfer files in both ways. But still no contacts or e-mail sync...i would like to get help.

I agree with the problem being a driver issue, mine searches for updates every week. I've had a vista machine since october last year and havent had any problems at all with syncing(usb or BT) or changing roms. As a suggestion when a first got my 6800 in July and switched to the 2.17 rom i had to upgrade to a newer version of WMDC, check your version and the most up to date one on HTC's website. Hope that helps.
Hi all,
I am bringing this thread back because now I have another issue with Mogul syncing to Vista with Outlook 2007. This is actually for my friend but the issue is simply puzzling and I hope anyone have insight on this.
My friend have another laptop and a Mogul and when he connect the device to the laptop via USB, Vista Mobility Device Center (MDC) only recognize it as a MEDIA PLAYER, not as a PDA.
I tried the following:
- Disable/Enable USB Advanced Network functionality (System -> Settings -> Connections)
- Hard reset the Mogul
- Connect the devices and run Windows Update (to check if there is a driver issue)
When I connect that same Mogul to a Windows XP, it sync just fine.
What do you guys think?
Guys,
Just a quick update on the issue whereby I cannot sync the Mogul to Vista: the driver updates did the trick! After installing the driver update, syncing works just fine! I wonder why M$ didn't include this update under Windows Update.
Thanks for the help all!

Please, where did you get the driver updates. Was it a driver on the phone, or for vista.
I am having similar probs, except it appears to sync, but deletes all contacts (inclunding sim!) from my touch dual.
It's shown in the thread above. The driver is available in PPCGeeks. I forgot which thread there, though.

I'm sorry -- was not aware of that. I have automatic updates set up so this question of driver update/renewal never came up for me.
Does this update work for anyone?
My Mogul is hanging on my laptops side...it say "Connecting to Unidentified Device".
And then it just stays there for ever....

The only way I could get around it is to disconnect my device, remove the device from WMDC - and - remove the PC connection in ActiveSync on the device and start ALL over again.
Also, I found that when you have a lot of data (like I do) to start syncing only piecemeal, i.e. do the first sync with the defaul settings first, then add folders, then add emails, etc.
IMHO - WMDC is so inadequate.
Oh well, tried all of these and still no joy

Disable the Windows Mobile DNS cache. This requires a registry
modification. Windows Mobile does not include a registry editor, but
free third-party editors are available (such as one from www.phm.lu).
Change the value of:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\
DnsCacheEnable to 0
If DnsCacheEnable does not exist, create it as a DWORD value.
A soft reset is necessary for the change to take effect.

Vista Mobile Device Sync Problems

I have search everything here and on HTC and on Verizon and here is where I am stuck. Using DCD 3.2.0 (but had same problem with 3.1.6) and latest Radio Rom. It seems to connect just fine to a Windows XP activesync 4.5 computer but will not connect to the Mobile Device Center on Vista (32bit).
Looking into the device manager I do see the Mobile Devices/HTC USB Sync driver is active but I do not see the Portable Devices/XV 6800 driver at all.
I do have the "Enable Advanced Network Functioinality" unchecked. I have uninstalled all the drivers and Mobile Sync software and rebooted everything. I even have tried the USB splitter. It seems to half recognize the phone in Vista but the other half is the Mobile Sync part. I do get an error on the phone that says "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer." This is sooooo frustrating as it worked one time on Vista, I think either DCD 3.0.x or maybe earlier and now it only works on XP.
What am I missing here??????

I have tried different USB ports and no Joy. It looks like it recognizes it as the HTC USB Sync driver shows up and it makes a noise that it found a USB device. I don't have another Vista machine but maybe a 64bit windows 2003 server would be the same. Probably not. It did work once a few DCD Roms ago but not since.
Random Disconnects
I am having a similar problem. Evern since moving to DCD 3.12, I have had a similar problem. I can manage to get connected sometimes but it will randomly disconnect.
For a while I switched to No2Chem and didnt experience the problem.

Can you post what devices show up when you are connected?
When I went from 3.1.4 to 3.2.0 I started having issues with Sync Center (Vista Ultimate 32-bit) as well. If I restart the PC it works fine for a while, but then suddenly you hear the USB device disconnect noise and thats all she wrote.
The device's charge LED is on, but it doesn't show up in vista anymore unless you restart the PC.
With 3.1.4 I never had this issue.
I wrote up an ActiveSync/mobile Device Manager Troubleshooting Guide in the Wiki, did you try all of those steps?

Go under settings/connections/USB to PC and uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality and see if that works for you on Vista.
also make sure you check your network connections, and make sure the Remote NDIS Connection (This is your Pocket PC, Smartphone) And have the IP Configuration set to automatic, as i forgot to put it back after using it as a modem for my laptop. This also prevents active sync from working.
Just a thought, as i had a similar problem, and my fix was reverting back IP settings to Automatic. Try this if you haven't

DV8, I have tried both on and off. It seems that off will act like the PPC with it on it acts like the remote NDIS network adapter like if you want to teather it.
ranmasaotome510, If I don't select the advanced network functioinality I never get the Remote NDIS Connection to change anything. All I get is the HTC USB Sync driver under the Mobile Devices and that is it. If I check the advanced network functionality I only get the Microsoft Widnows Mobile Remote Adapter driver and not the HTC USB sync driver. Either way WESCOMM doesn't find the device.
I used the view hidden devices and removed everything I could find but I never can find this driver: Portable Devices\PocketPC to uninstall it. I have also uninstalled WMDC a couple of times and have downloaded and installed the latest. This works fine on XP with out fail. I am also using office 2007 but this did work on this Vista machine with an earlier ROM.
No clue if this is related, but I found two copies of Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in device manager. One was operational and the other was not. I removed the one with the yellow bang on it and plugged in my phone. Immediately Sync Center saw it and allowed me to create a connection with the phone.
Dumb luck? Maybe.

Hello all together,
some days ago I have bought a new S710 Vox phone and had no luck with synchronizing it with my Vista PC. Same problem as jambrose.
Then I read the posting about Teredo Tunneling-Adapter, deleted it from my system, rebooted the PC and surprise, the connection to my Vox works fine. Thank you!

HELP!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot get this resolved to save my arse!
I have tried EVERYTHING...just spent 3 hours looking up stuff, and re-reading to try and find something.
What the problem is:
My Verizon XV6800 connects to my Vista laptop, but does not OPEN up WMDC. If I have "Advanced Function" unchecked, then my laptop finds my ppc when connected, but does not open up WMDC. On my phone, a little connection icon goes in the bottom tray. Other times, I get the "you do not have active sync 4.5 installed" error.
What I've tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalled
net localgroup add administrators etc.
I am at a loss.
I just want to sync my Mogul with my Vista Laptop, so that I can install apps and sync email! UGH!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have a firewall running on your laptop? I had trouble connecting also since I have BitDefender running. I had to open up some ports to get it working. Also, prior to connecting the USB, I would exit the ActiveSync process. The connection will start a new instance of it automatically.

HTC Raphael vs WMDC

Hi all.
Not sure if this thread belongs here or in the Raphael area...
Picked up a new HTC Touch Pro on Tuesday, and no matter what I try I can't get Windows Mobile Device Centre to recognise the device. To add more confusion to the situation my TP will sync to a different WMDC on a friend's Vista laptop (also running Vista Home Premium SP1), and also the WMDC on my home PC still syncs happily to my old device (Dopod 838pro).
So:
1. The sync to a mate's laptop suggests there's nothing wrong with the HTC.
2. Conversely the sync to my Dopod tells me there's nothing wrong with the WMDC on my PC either!
3. As far as I can see the two devices have the same settings – set to active sync with enhanced settings turned off.
I have uninstalled WMDC three times, tried the version on the TP CD in case it had a special driver, and later downloaded the latest from Microsoft (WMDC 6.1.6965). I have disabled the firewall, turned off the anti-virus software etc. Nothing works. When I plug it in I hear the USB connection sound from Vista and WMDC just sits there as if nothing is connected.
Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks...
J
Hi
I had same problem. I resolved it by going to TP settings/connections/USB TO PC
Then selected Active Sync once that is ticked, uncheck the enhanced network sub box.
As soon as I did that device drivers started to load and WMDC suddently recognized and connect to HTC TP and you then get nice large graphic of TP in left pane of WMDC.
hope this helps.

Had tried that - no good. Thanks anyway. Have decided that the issue must be with my PC. Have synced the HTC with three other PCs with no issue so there must be some weird registry setting somewhere causing the issue.
Will bite the bullet and rebuild the PC - probably needs some maintenance anyway.
Thanks for responding.

The problem is probably your pc firewall. Disable it and try again. If this solves the problem then you should configure the firewall to allow connections for WMDC.

Win7 need generic rndis driver?

Hi,
Why Win7 show an error when connected my HD2 to PC?
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks for your big help.
Do a search of this forum (Leo) on connecting the HD2 with Windows Mobile Device Center. You will find quite a few suggestions and some solutions to your problem. One of them should work for you.
Easy: Use Windows Update when installing the driver (let windows update get the driver for you) and it will download the correct drivers including the Mobile Device Center.

I'm having a similar problem with Win7 32 bit (but only on my home Quad Core PC- the Office Win7 PC works fine!)- it won't connect in RNDIS mode.
Try connecting in simple mode- go Settings/Other/USB to PC and make sure the 'Enable faster data synchronisation' box is UNchecked.
This may well kick the connection into action- works on mine, but still won't connect in advanced mode.
It might well be your firewall that's the problem. In my case, ESET Smart Security, it is. I also have to disable 'Enable faster data synchronisation' to synchronise with ActiveSync. The unrecognised (or blocked) rndis drivers also mean I can't update the HD2 rom on my own PC.
If anyone finds a good solution it's welcome.

I unchecked the box and W7 PC found the HD2 and Windows Mobie DEvice Centre worked. I then checked the box and it still works.

Thats good
I wasn't so lucky- eventually had to go into the PCs device manager and delete the USB Root Hub entries. These are then reloaded fresh at the next startup and the correct driver installation kicks in All OK now!
same problem here, i unchecked the fast data synch and now it goes from not recognize RNDIS from "generic serial"

Thanks - this solution worked for me. And likewise when I REcheck the box the connection fails again.

TD2 + Windows 7

Hi there everyone. I'm having some problems synchronizing my TD2 that I would really appretiate some help with.
I'm using a pretty vanilla TD2, retail with no significant changes. I was synchronizing it with Outlook 2003 on my previous PC with no problems what so ever. Now, i've moved across to Windows 7 (64bit Enterprise) and Office 2007, and I cannot for the life of me get it working.
I've tried a number of things, including changing over the "Enable faster data synchronizing" option under USB to PC connections, upgrading to the new WM6.5 rom, and even connecting via bluetooth - all in vain.
Does anyone have any idea as to whats going wrong, and how I can go about correcting it?
Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.
Make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1 installed as Active sync won't work with 7.
WMD Centre
Hi
I have Windows 7 64 bit and mine works better than Vista.
Go to this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
Download appropriate version (32bit or 64 bit). Install it. Then plug in your TD2. Make sure you see some sort of notification on your phone and your PC that it has picked up the device. Wait for any configuration to occur.
Go to Windows Update and check if you need to install any HTC Usb device driver. If so install that too.
Restart once all installed. Plug in your TD2 into computer and activate Windows Mobile Device Centre and follow the prompts.
Oh and open activesync on your TD2 and check you haven't more than the 2 partnerships otherwise this causes problems too.
Cheers
Aussie
