OK this is annoying the crap out of me, i had the evo for 1 month now so that makes my 30 day trial for sprint kind of useless,
my internet was working perfectly with no problem since the first day i got it,
did the update yesterday and had the problem with the flash browser and had to do a factory reset and everything work flawless and smooth after the reset.
after i did the reset and update the internet was working perfect on my usual places like work and home where i always get full bars and internet with no problem.
no when i went home last night and start playing around with my phone i KEEP GETTING INTERNET 3G SIGNAL DOWN, even in places i know theres perfect internet connection. its keep randomly giving me signing and right after i open my browser or application that uses internet the signal of the internet goes down and i dont even get a open it, i can make calls and message perfectly but no internet damn it.
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHATS GOING ON, EITHER THE UPDATE MESSED UP MY INTERNET 3G CONNECTION OR IS THAT SPRINT REALLY SUCKS AFTER 30 DAYS OF TRIAL?????????
My 3G was lame after a hard reset, but a few hours later it started picking up, and now I'm getting twice the speed I was getting before the Froyo update. I'm seeing as high as 1700kBitps on mobilespeedtest.com and dslreports.com/mspeed, 1400 on speedtest.net.Maybe the phone goes through some verification process and runs on a slower network masked by a 3G connection until it's verified, after the hard reset.
You could always do a reset with the MSL. You'll need you MSL code to make it work. I think the process is: dial ##786# and then when it loads, hit menu, reset. It will ask you for your MSL code. Enter it and the phone will reset. When it comes back on, it will reactivate on the service. This will do another factory reset by the way, but it resets more than just the data and system partitions.

Hi Folks,
I've been having some proper trouble with my Hero over the last couple of days. Namely that it won't make phonecalls directly out of the pocket. If it's been locked, in my pocket, I take it out and try dialling and it just goes silent for a second then beeps and reverts back to the phone screen. In every instance I've tried a restart and it works.
Is this going to need to be sent back or is it something I'm doing wrong? Also, have any of you noticed your screen scrolling between screens without the phone being touched?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Strange. The first thing always to try (especially before you go to the extreme of sending it back), is a factory reset.
Remember it'll wipe the device back to factory, and you'll loose all your data. You'll have to resync your contacts etc.
But its the best way to figure out if its a hardware or software issue. Factory settings here means a reformat and reimage of the whole OS. There's an option in the settings to do it.
Thanks mate. I tried the reset this afternoon and so far, so good.
I had some problems with mine with the calls as I couldn't make or receive a call even though there was signal.
People would call me on the landline as they tried to call and said the phone was off (stranger still the call wouldn't go to my voicemail and would say the number was unobtainable) and I wouldn't be able to call out.
It would say dialling for 5-6 seconds maybe more then beep and go back to the phone dialler screen.
Many calls to T-Mobile later (tried new sim card and a factory reset) and it still wouldn't work. T-Mobile techs suggested I switch it to run on 2G networks only which made it better but I argued that my previous phone (SE W910i) didn't need manual switching between networks to work properly.
So after more discussion they agreed that something wasn't right with my Hero and sent a replacement out.
So far so good for the replacement
Thanks for the heads up, mate. Since I did my factory reset I've had no trouble but I'm half expecting it!
No problem
I'll admit that I keep my Hero on 2G networks now (not for any signal and call issues) as it really helps save battery power. Yeah, the net performance is slower but after all its only fetching a few facebook updates and the gmail is still fast to use. I can switch it back if need be for fast internet.
So, I pick up my phone and it says I have no service after that it starts to lag a little bit and then a bunch of errors telling me force close a bunch of apps. After all that I can finally navigate my phone, I try settings>wireless devices (settings , i forgot what it was called) and I getting a force close error same thing with other areas of my phone. I can still turn on Wifi but no GPS or Cellular signal. Never tried anything funky on my phone. In process of doing a factory reset.
check if you can browse the internet, if you can then this sounds very similar to what happened to me.
give this a try - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579606
I fixed it with a factory reset, but Ill give your recommendation a try next time.
My wife flashed her hero to the official sprint 2.1. She had never rooted or flashed a custom rom before, so her going to the official 2.1 didn't really bother me much. However, now she's running into an issue with her data not working. A couple days ago she noticed she wasn't getting her e-mail. Strangely enough, mine quite working too (I'm on fresh 2.1.1). I rebooted my phone and mine started working. So I went to her wireless and network settings and turned off her data. I then turned it back on and after 30 seconds or so it said it was connected and everything started working just fine.
The strange part is there are no errors and even when the phone tries to check e-mail, it doesn't report any errors. Now, on my phone when this happened, my HTC Mail app threw a fit because it couldn't connect to the exchange server. Since I could refresh my gmail account and got no errors I thought it was just our exchange server. I signed into my account on my PC (for exchange) and it was in fact working fine. After I rebooted (just this one time as mentioned above) gmail kicked off with new mail and exchange connected fine.
Today, she has told me 3 times now that she went in and reset the connection (turn it off and back on) and a while later it would quit working again. She turns her phone off every night, but for good measure I am having her reboot it now.
Anyone else have this issue? She never had this problem on 1.5, so I don't think it's hardware. I've only had the issue once, but I'm also not in her area right now (tower related, maybe? My data borked when I was at home where she is at right now).
Thanks

This does seem like a tower problem. However, if you want to troubleshoot, you could always reset your data settings via the Sprint ## codes.
For data, enter this code: ##3282# on your Dial Pad. Give it a second and it'll ask if you want to view or edit your settings. Trouble shooting this problem would mean you have to Edit the settings, but in order to edit them you need your MSL code, which can be obtained by either contacting Sprint CS and asking them for it; or you can search around here on XDA and I'm pretty sure some people posted other ways to get your code.
Once you have your MSL code, choose edit when you get the pop up window and then click on your menu button -- there should be an option for you to choose reset -- enter your MSL code and your phone will reboot.
This may or may not fix your problem; I've had success whenever I've had data problems.
Hey thanks! I did a search for MSL and found a thread with a procedure to get it through CDMA workshop but the drivers don't want to work with Windows 7 x64.
However, my wife was complaining the other day that it takes a long time for her phone to start ringing when someone calls. I think I'll call sprint tonight when I get home and just tell them I need to fix that and see if they give me the MSL... Might kill two birds with one stone.

On the taking a long time to ring:
1) Move the ringtone off the SDcard into the phone, in some cases the SD card is to slow to read it fast enough. - Worked for a buddy of mine
2) There is a polling rate you can set when you get the MSL - but I have heard sprint forces a particular rate from the tower even if the phone has one set. - This will also decrease battery life.

This may be too obvious of an answer, but have you tried using the device self service tool and updating your profile and prl?

No problem, hope everything works out.
I had the same problem, took it to the sprint store (Waste of time!) and ended up hard resetting it, seems to have fixed the problem. you can hard reset by turning off the phone and then holding down the end, back and home buttons and selecting "clear storage" or "clear user data" (sorry, can't remember the exact wording). It will completely reset the software but it will wipe the data off your phone.
I got her MSL code via the logcat method that was just recently posted and reset her data and also changed her slot index. Although some people say that it is overridden at the tower, I also changed her priority. I updated her PRL as well. Before, it was ringing after I would hear about 3.5 rings, sometimes 4 full rings. Now it's ringing on the second ring. Also, her data was essentially turning off after about 30 minutes. After doing all of the above, she is saying it hasn't stopped working yet.
Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like it might be fixed.
Well it's still not fixed. She has it happen a couple times a day and now my phone is doing it too. It's not happening consistently that I can tell, just seems to randomly stop working.
Also, I'm on Fresh 2.1.2 and I'm getting some really really bad lag. I don't use any custom ringtones, just the ones that came with the phone and sometimes my phone will start to ring and the only way I know is because the vibrate starts. Then a good 3 seconds later I'm still getting a black screen as the phone is trying to tell me who it is.
I will randomly pick up my phone to surf the web too and it won't respond or do anything for like a good 10 - 15 seconds. I open up ES Task Manager and usually one of the mail apps is trying to update with like a 5% - 10% cpu usage, but that's all that has any CPU percentage. I'm not really sure what to try next. I've removed some apps that I don't really use and a couple that I just recently installed just to see if they are the culprit.
I'm using the Launcher Pro Beta too. Maybe that's it?
I've had a similar issue... only happened to me a couple of times since the update though... but I've just been turning "airplane" mode on and then off it turns off the radio and then turns it back on... seems to have worked for me...
again.. for me it's only happened a couple of times since the update to 2.1 so it could be a different issue.
I never thought of airplane mode. Doing what her and I are doing just reconnects data, not turning the radio on and off. I'm going to have her try that next and see if that fixes it. She says that she turns the phone off every night, but maybe she isn't some nights.
I had played with the Gingerblur and decided to reset to stock and ran the uninstall, all was good.
I then did a factory reset, and it came back with the motoblur setup. When I entered my info it tells me "Clock error, contact customer service"
If I can get PAST the screen, I can reinstall gingerblur or something.. this is rediculous.
If I can't bypass the screen, can I get to where i can set the device in debug mode to update the device?
any help greatly appreciated.
**UPDATE**
Tried yet again to connect with my motoblur account. But didn't let it use wifi this time and it won't even connect over the Cell connection at all. Could this be related to the push earlier? I didn't get the push .. hell if I know whats wrong with the darn thing.
I think you choose just press menu and you're able to skip it.

no luck. you can edit APN settings and dial emergency, set USB mode and Wireless.. nothing else.
Resolution
Turns out the issue with the clock was an inability to connect. Somewhere between uninstalling Gingerblur and the default hard reset, the APN got deleted, and I had to rely on Wifi only.
Problem is I am in a hotel during the week, and this Wifi requires a web based log in to get an outside IP. So I drove around till I found an open Wifi.. and Moto let me log in and get past setup.
once that was done, had to readd the wap.cingular to the APN.
all works now.. what a pita.
sounds like it was a bad flash, I would suggest that if anyone else runs into this they try reflashing the 1.2.6 sbf
going to wait a week or so to see the progress of ROMS.. had it 6 days and if I brick it, the wife MAY shoot me dead.
Since Gingerblur isn't a full ROM replacement tho, it was fairly easy to remove it all to stock, even with the issues, which I know to look for now.
dont do a backup without solid wifi! in case the APN gets nailed
I bought my housemate a used epic to replace his palm pre until we can look at the note or galaxy nexus later this year. So far registration with sprint has gone fine - they said the ESN was clear and it's been bound to his account without a problem.
The issue is that the data connection is stuck saying 'error 67: username/password may be incorrect'. Looking through "phone settings -> about phone -> system status" shows his phone number and MSID according to what sprint told us, but the 'user name' is still apparently the previous user and a factory reset via the menus and even a full wipe/repartition back to EC05 via odin doesn't get rid of this.
Is there anything we can do here at home or is the only option going to be to go into a sprint store directly?
Try updating Profile. If that don't work then Sprint will have to walk you through a hard reset. You will need advanced tech support for that.
The profile update failed twice on the phone with tech support, took about 5 minutes and timed out with username/passwd failure. We also tried dialing in some numbers on the keypad ##somenumbers#, edit the phone number and MSID by hand, saved and rebooted.
It is definitely a provisioning error. Make sure you are in a strong 3G signal area and try the profile update a few more times. If the tech can't make it stick you probably have to bring it in to a store.
Nevermind.. it's been about half an hour since the last attempt, we tried again with updating the profile and it went through that time. We're all good here! Thanks for the feedback though :]

Glad you got it working.
Make sure is old device is powered off. Power his new novice off for more than 60 seconds to clear the VLR (this is network side). Power device in and then dial ##72786#, follow on screen prompts. You will need your msl. You used this to program your msn and MSID earlier. This will clear your device radio without wiping all user data. After it is done it will try to iota. If it times out again, esn swap to another device wait 5min and the swap back to his epic. You can do the swap on the website. This should get you going. Hopefully you won't have to do the swaps. Also make sure your signal strength is better than -101dbm.
Edit - guess you got it before I finished typing. Glad it's working.
