New G1 Blaze?!?!! a.k.a. HTC Vision/Vanguard - G1 General

Well I guess G1's aren't dead after all, but really it is just the name because :
no 5 row keyboard
no dedicated hard keys
just a game equalizer for t-mobile really.+
In, all its the phone for us finishing up our old G1 contracts.

My next phone. I love G1 and I'm really looking forward to its successor. Froyo + Sense + fast proccessor + lot of RAM + full QWERTY keyboard = WIN!

emerald???
i wanna see what the emerald will look like supposedly its a dual core, 4 inch monster wit a keyboard lol
but this is def a slick looking phone
also, i want gingerbread

Emerald is still on the way, I'm just waiting for pictures to drool about how this new sidekick will look. I hope it has Mood lights around all four corners like my current Sidekick Lx 2007, a sidekick theme that can be turned on/off, sidekick sounds!!!!(drool) but they can be turned on/off as well.
Ever since my G1 started having screen issues I went to the Sidekick Lx 2007, I can tell its no Android, but its a phone that your supposed to showoff and a phone that gets it done... barely.
Oh, yeah Sidekick Lx + 1 to gettin girls because they love to use it so much, G1 attracted to much attention from boys, girls, and adults.
T-Mobile Roadmap in an attachment.
As you can see Emerald is still on the way... don't lose hope in T-Mobile just yet!

Yes, I bought my G1 specifically to hold me off until Project Emerald comes out. I cant wait for it!

I saw an article about the mytouch HD, I think it said something about the blaze

My TOP SECRET sources leaked this info to me....
HTC Vision should have MSM8260 (single core [up to 1.3] & HSPA+)
HTC Emerald should have QSD8672 (dual core [up to 1.5] & HSPA+)
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon family of chipset solutions includes:
• First-generation products: QSD8×50™ with 1GHz enhanced core
• Second-generation products: MSM8×55™ and QSD8×50A™ with 1GHz enhanced core, including multimedia optimizations and 1.3GHz enhanced core, respectively
•Third-generation products: MSM8260 (HSPA+), MSM8660 (multi-mode HSPA+/1xEV-DO Rev. B) and QSD8672 (single-chip, dual-CPU — Support for HSPA+ & CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO Rel 0/A/B)
The MSM8260 for HSPA+ and MSM8660 for multi-mode HSPA+/CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. B feature two enhanced CPU cores running at up to 1.2GHz for high levels of Web application and multimedia performance, including a powerful GPU with 3D/2D acceleration engines for Open GLES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1 acceleration, 1080p video encode/decode, dedicated low power audio engine, integrated low power GPS, and support for 24-bit WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution displays.
QSD8672 Chipset
The single-chip, dual-CPU QSD8672™ includes most of the above features, in addition to:
* Dual CPUs, up to 1.5 GHz for faster response and processing
* Low-power 45nm process technology for higher integration and performance
* Higher-resolution WSXGA (1440 x 900) display support
* High-definition (1080p) video recording and playback
* Support for HSPA+ networks – 28 Mbps downloads and 11 Mbps uploads
* Supports CDMA2000 1X , 1xEV-DO Rel 0/A/B networks
* Improved 3D graphics – up to 80M triangles/sec and 500M+ 3D pixels/sec
nah, I just c/p'ed from a different site. These are the expected specs....

Oh man i cant wait... I really want to buy a g1 blaze over a mytouch hd, but not specs wize... if blaze is vanguard and mytouch hd is emerald. But apparently from leaked sources it seems to lean toward the mytouch hd to be vanguard and not g1 blaze.

Just note that MSM8260 is a ****DUAL**** core chip. Not single.
Irrefutable evidence of this:

Gee. The box mine came in *clearly* says G1. In really big letters even. Maybe mine is a cheap knock-off. Odd, I bought it in a T-Mobile corporate store.
Hint, products routinely have multiple names. They're all accurate. They may not be *your* preferred name for the product. They may not be the name used in a particular piece of software. But, they are accurate names for the device.

The phone was first sold on October 22, 2008 as the T-mobile G1. When it was realesed in other parts of the world, it was renamed to dream. My phone turns on to a big white "T-mobile G1", not "dream".

Don't worry I member what he is talking about. Its just a joke.

HTC Dream just sounds more expensive, G1 sounds cheap.
It's a joke people he knows the name.

Hehe, when I show my phone to my friends and they see this "Era" (my operator) on the phone they're like "WTF phone by "Era"? WTF is this sh*t ". But then they see Android and full QWERTY and they're like ":O". Then I say:
"it's also called HTC Dream"
Then they're totally like "O_O".

Hint: TMOBILE IS NOT A HARDWARE MANUFACTURER!!!!

Sadly, a chance for a 5 row keyboard with a 4.3" screen, 1.5 ghz processor and 750 mb of RAM is unlikely. Take of the keyboard than the phone with that specs is likely.
I'm trying to say that thanks to those big monster screens, the use of a physical keyboard is pretty much useless.
ONE MORE THING: Sooner or later, those G1/32B users will have to replace their phones. You cannot keep on saying "I'll hold on to my G1 until a true G1 successor is coming."
The G1 Blaze is going to be close to the true successor as it is going to be in this decade!
Also since this is going to be made by HTC, you can root it (in a few days after the release) and flash a custom ROM (a few days after rooting the device) since it does not have a F%#KING ENCRYPTED BOOTLOADER!!!
So if this comes with Sense, just root it and flash CM 6 (I'm 94390535% sure that CM 6 will be ported to this phone)

No, the phone was labelled as HTC DREAM from the factory before tmobile ever sold a single one of them.
And then comes tmobile to debrand them.
Its like those stupid american car companies that buy good japanese cars and put their own stickers on them. Doesn't magically make it into a chevrolet since it was still made in a suzuki factory.

Dude, grow up. A product can be know under many names. Companies re-brand the device or keep the original name. It doesn't matter.
STOP being a troll and just grow up.
Also it doesn't help your point by being racist. And from my knowledge, those american companies like Chevy and Ford makes their cars in factories THAT ARE IN AMERICA.

A 5th row on the keyboard isn't important. What IS important is that the keys are aligned correctly with the 'q' key a half-key left of the 'a' key and the 'a' key a half-key left of the 'z' key. According to the pictures of this unit, the keys are properly arranged, which will make it a pleasure to type on, unlike most other moronic key layouts used on cellphones -- i.e. take a look at THIS moronic keyboard: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_milestone-pictures-3001.php -- (ignore the apparently missing 'z' key though since the picture is of a qwertz layout).

Next Android Phone w/ Physical Keyboard?

I had been under the impression that the Hero had a physical keyboard. Now that I know that it doesn't, has there been any word about a new Android phone with a physical keyboard?

Samsung Bigfoot.
T-Mo needs another good HTC handset with a keyboard. The Dream is becoming old school more by the minute. I want something suitable to replace it once my contract's up, and I don't feel like hopping to AT&T. Not to mention that bordering keys on phones is bad for non-visual key identification, the Dream's separated keys help improve key identification without looking.
Well the G1 is turing into the Iphone. So I dont think it will be old school dead, just hope they keep upgrading it in a GOOD way. Adding a flash to the camera and keyboard support would be a good start... focusing on its linux backend is another, allowing for USB input devices would give it the win. Basic elements. Puddy to give it form, Duct Tape to bind it together, Caffinee to make it go. =)

Good to know. Heh Its been debated G1 beats G2, and if G1 beats the ATT one.. so far Im thinking wise investment so far.
I do wonder about that Samsung Android tho..
Samsung is going to be releasing the I7500 Galaxy with 8GB of internal memory and a 3.2 AMOLED 16M Color screen. 5MP autofocus camera with a flash.
Motorola will be releasing some phones as well. Nothing much about them yet.
I remember reading on TmoNews a while ago that there is supposed to be a G1 v.2 late this year, I beleive it is a physical redesign to help its' looks.
Basically has anyone noticed the G1 really was built to last? I havent anything that scream "OMG I GOTTA UPGRADE TO THIS MODEL!" yet. G1 so far has outlasted iphones launch.. I mean soon as they got it, they came out with a 3g model. Something we already have.
Only thing to make G1 perfect. Add flash camera, more internal memory and hell, why not a linux-swap partition built in. =p
We definitely don't want swap. Just more RAM.
The RAM is fine. I wish they rebuilt the browser with the Native Developement Kit. That would probably solve most of the problems. Getting more PoP RAM is just not possible because MICRON has to get their lard asses and do it.
But since ARM architecture isn't their prime investment it'll be a while before we see anything.
I heard a few IRC members were doing the initial looks at hardware hacking. I don't know all the details but if anything we could definetly add flash to the camera if the genius IRC guys figure it out.
You could easily add an external flash via the serial port. It would, however, be somewhat bulky. If you build it in, then you need to butcher it. Either way, it seems perfectly pointless... its not a camera, its a phone/pda.

Lancaster = Serious Fail. The chip it uses does not include the ATI 3D acceleration that all the other Android Phones have.
It's like AT&T purposly wants Android to fail instead of releasing a real device.
Maybe Hero.
Rogers Dream on AT&T 3G is great.
-James
The 256MB ROM / 192MB RAM of the G1 is inadequate.
If they bumped it up to at least the 512MB ROM / 288MB RAM of the Canadian Magic and the Hero, bumped the camera to 5MP w/ a flash, and added a slightly larger battery, the G1 would be good for another couple of years. Just about everything else can be addressed in software.

faster processor and larger internal memory would be good then we could run the hero roms more efficiently lol.
I would believe ATT and Apple BOTH want it to fail.. afterall that market is about iphones. So ever other GSM is countering iphone with a better android. And isnt he soooo cute. ^^

Our G1 needs a Hemi under the hood!

The g1 is perfect for me but it lacks processing power! HTC needs to wake up and give us a g1 with a hemi! It looks like every new android phone coming out is really a downgrade. I love having a physical keyboard! My friend got a new iphone 3gs and it runs circles around my phone when flying through apps like Google maps and its because the Iphone has a nice processor.
Would be cool if 1000's of us got together and massed emailed HTC until they met our demands
The mytouch is a hemi-G1, since hemi means half or less than a whole.
Mobiles tend to be about, what, 8-10 years behind the desktop, so the HTC Orangutan in Q4 2019 should be able to play Crysis on it's 4" sub-3D infipixel™ display.
Just wait for the sholes because HTC isn't gonna give you **** anytime soon. Motorola is looking like the best bet for Android in the near future. HTC dont listen to there customers just look at allll the driver issues with older winmo phones.
Also your friends iphone is faster because a) it only runs one process at a time b) safari is basically the best mobile browser out c) apple has complete control over it, they make the product, the os, and control the software.

All 3 android phones currently available (Dream, Magic and Hero) all use the same processor...The Rogers (32A) Magic and Hero both have 288mb of RAM compared to the Dream and 32B Magic's 192mb. AFAIK the 3G S has 256mb of RAM and a ~600mhz processor.

Yeah Im convinced they got it off the truck or something.
Im not liking any concepts or iterations of Android devices either.
I would love the g1 "style" to stay put. KB/Style of slideout/Trackball comb is best Ive ever had on a phone.
Bigger screen/vga/faster processor etc is what needs changing on future android/G# devices.
Hemi is short for hemispherical (sp?) Referring to the design of the combustion chambers. Hemi DOES NOT mean half or not whole. A simple google search would of prevented you from talking without knowing. Thanks for playing.

Engadget compared all the devices. The Hero phones processor is a bit different. The end numbers on msm7201a is different. Engadget may have made a mistake not sure. I came across this earlier in a thread here on XDA.
Edit: ok I checked HTC Web site and the Hero processor is MSM7200A

Well done, you have shown your ignorance, hemi is a Greek derived prefix for half, also usable meaning partial. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Hemi-
If you actually needed to google "hemi" and didn't realise that hemisphere was a compound word then I feel for you and everyone else that attended your school.
Of course I knew what the OP was referring to, but was taking the piss.

For the ones interested here are the photos caught recently:

Personally I do not like the keybaord layout
From what I read its going to be pretty hard for them to push out a 1ghz processor on the mytouch slide as well.
It is going to be the 528mhz and 5 mp camera w/flash.
im mad all these new phones keep coming out, I had the G1 and I loved it, then the mytouch came out and I got that..THEN they basically said **** YOU and brought out another mytouch with a headphone jack! FML FML FML!
4 row keyboard = fail
There will ALWAYS be another phone. Just like mom said, "there are more fish in the sea". Be patient and buy a new phone for the features, not because it's the new one. If you don't like this one, just wait a few months and there will be another one.
I think a lot of rumors and speculations are being tossed around here.
After using the White myTouch Slide for a good bit I can confirm that it is most likely not using the same 528mhz processor as previously used in the myTouch 3G. Running 2.1 and HTC Sense UI alone can be a chore on the first myTouch and G1 but on this phone it ran like a dream (no pun intended). Tried to see if I could find lag within the launcher and had widgets on ALL home screens with no problems at all jumping from app to app or opening the app drawer. Speeds were comparable to the N1 although I doubt it has a 1ghz. Although the whole time I was playing with it I didn't think to confirm the processor speeds with any apps so I'll have to do that Monday or something.
Beautiful phone though and the 4 row keyboard is one of the nicest I've seen. The spacing on keys makes it so nice for texting/emailing. It will take some adjustments as do all new phones.
Definitely going to be my next purchase moving from the G1. Glad I held off on the HD2 and N1 as I enjoy the luxury of CHOOSING my keyboard preference.

here you go. I posted the full specs. In the myTouch section since it is the myTouch slide!
This was taken from someone who posted on another site but seems legit:
I work for T-Mobile and am supposed to be getting one of these soon as part of a MyTouch Champion promotion. I was also a a meeting this evening a rep had already received his, and from everything I see, it flat out flies! I know the processor isnt much of an increase, but HTC has done something right because the multitouch seemed really responsive and the new Sense looks clean. I was also told at the meeting that the processor is actually 700 MHz, not 600, so take it for what it’s worth, but I’ll be more than happy to post again once I receive mine.

They've already sent them out to employees in Las Vegas. Maybe even as long as a week ago. I read it somewhere not too long ago. They said they were impressed - but most of those gadget sites always rate something "good." It may look pretty, but that doesn't mean its a good phone. I'll be waiting for Google's next phone. Or another good HTC phone. No more in store phones for me. MyTouch/G1 was good - but they don't carry the actual GOOD phones. As I've said before (somewhere, lol): If HTC had the best phone on the market and released it to T-Mobile and T-Mobile locks it to their network only... well, thats just bad business. Think about how many more G1s would have sold if they released it for EVERY carrier.
P.S.: Is that keyboard italic? That's just tacky.
Liked it till I saw the keyboard. Too much going on. And what's with the funky g button?

Why not?
The layout is *correct*, which is NOT the case on ANY OTHER android phone except the DREAM.
You will note that the typical INCORRECT layout has the Q button directly above the A button, which is directly over the Z button. This INCORRECT layout is virtually useless since the buttons are in the WRONG PLACES!!!
The lack of the 5th row does not make the layout bad. The layout can be either correct or incorrect, and in this case, it is correct.

Think about how many more G1s would have sold if they released it for EVERY carrier.

You may be confused by the fact that "G1" is ***NOT THE PRODUCT'S REAL NAME***, but they are MOST DEFINITELY available for ALL carriers with compatible frequencies. *** The one sold as ANDROID DEVELOPER PHONE 1 *** is NOT bootloader or sim locked, or, for that matter, even sold via carriers. Good for EVERY carrier!

Yes, yes. It's the dream. Sorry, I've read it a million times and I still forget - its a Dream. In the U.S., though, if you walk up to most people and say, "Nice Dream." they're going to be like wtf? I've never even heard of one called an Android Developer Phone One.

From nexus one to T-Mobile G2/HTC desire z.

I was thinking. About getting the new T-Mobile g2 when it comes out. Is it worth it to switch. I read that the new processor is even better the samsungs. Do you think. Its worth it?

Unless you want a keyboard, of course not.
It's 99% the same phone, but with a keyboard.
I would wait until Q1 of 2011 when the dual-core 1.2ghz phones come out. Or at least that is what I am doing.
I know there are alot of similarities but i keep hearing that the phone has better battery a faster processor, and faster speeds in HSPA+ also witha keyboard. since I mainly use it for texting i find it hard to find a reason especialy since sliders are rare in android unless your on Verizon.(Tmobile) to not get it aside form the fact that in 3-4 months there will be alot of better dual core phones.

I highly doubt dual cores will be out that quick. It would be nice tho
Paul: its actually a very different phone, scorpion processor with adreno 205, big improvement on snapdragon

I'd switch in a heartbeat if I had a job to pay for it, if the device is as open as our beloved N1, and if the 3G was triband. We didn't read the final spec sheet but IIRC the 3G is only dual-band, making it impossible for us Europeans to roam to the USA.
That's pretty sad for such an awesome HSPA+ phone. But maybe the spec sheet I found is wrong and the radio actually IS triband!

more importantly, it doesn't have vanilla android because you get some seperate preinstalled apps like swype. So you won't get Android updates as early as Nexus One Users with stock android. This is a KO criteria for me. I want to get the updates first, as soon as google rolls them out, and not wait for tmobile to release them.
Why is it that vanilla Android cannot be installed on a TMo phone?
I'm getting one. Sexy phone. To me, at least.
The phone is not that close to a nexus, the g 2 will run much faster than the nexus with second gen chipset and supports faster speeds, better battery life, keyboard and handles flash better its def a decent upgrade and its sexy

Agreed. The specs are too close to the N1 to try to ride out for a year(I know I can't go two years with the same phone so I try to get something that won't leave me mad for more than 6 months as new hardware comes out.) 5mp camera? No sale. I'm waiting for a dual core, higher megapixels, HD out, 720p video and a coupon for a half-price on a hooker.

Mytouch HD is coming out this year and has dual snapdragon processors.
I want to see some benchmarks and reviews before getting the G2. The N1 is still a great phone.
I will be waiting for something that has specs like the rumored HD7.. dual core 1.2g processors and 4.3-4.5 inch screen and 1g of ram. When i see this I will make the switch
I would wait for reviews before upgrading. At least that's what I'm going to do.
I may hold out until after the myTouch HD comes out. Because I'm wondering how many other dual core will follow for TMobile. I'm thinking TMobile may not see any other nicer higher end phones than the G2 and myT HD until Fall of 2011.

Preinstalled Apps, such as Swype, run on top of Vanilla Android. There is a very small modification that we make to the framework to make Swype work properly, but this is not nearly the same as complete frameworks like TouchWiz or SenseUI. Those types of frameworks need to be heavily modified to maintain compatibility with each release. In many ways, it is the driver support that holds back rapid rollouts for different phones, Vanilla Android or not. If the kernel is a new version, those drivers need to be recompiled and perhaps rewritten, and those come from the OEMs and their suppliers.

What are you talking about?
G1, MyTouch 3G, MyTouch Slide, Nexus One, and HD2(these are the only ones off the top of my head) all have vanilla ported onto them.
The Nexus one, Mytouch 3g, and g1 have always had vanilla android.
Godammit, this is why I'm asking. If Cyanogenmod can be installed on these other phones, why is there so much crowing about how the N1 is special? WTF is it that makes the N1 better than the others, from a software perspective? This is what I am trying to find out, but nobody seems to actually know, in their conscious mind anyway.

if you'll notice, the majority of folks are not crowing about the nexus from a software perspective, or any android based phone for that matter... the big deal is (ok WAS) the hardware.
each time a new android based phone is released, people don't get excited about android version 2.x.x.x, they want the HARDWARE because in most cases if it ships android, it can run any version android. the hardware makes a huge difference.
see ?

Looks like an awesome 1.2 Ghz dual-core phone, but it also looks like it's going to Verizon for the launch of its LTE service. I hope Sprint comes up with something better than the EVO Shift 4G. June should be exciting.

That's fake. That particular chip isn't due for about another year.
Still should be a good phone though. Like the EVO (FFC + "4G") + updated CPU/GPU, what looks like a Desire HD like aluminum casing, more storage, and 50% more RAM.
Looks really cool but I dont buy it.
It's a Verizon Evo!! Super lame if you ask me. I thought phone tech would be a lot further than what it is. Just proves that the Evo is top of the line android phone.

How is the EVO the "top of the line Android phone" when this phone betters it in just about every way? Makes absolutely no sense.

Because he said so and its his opinion. If you dont agree (and we all know you dont mr iphone i love apple guy) then so be it. But he didn't ask you for your opinion, so why are you trying to start some more drama. Seems to try to go out of your way to try and tear down the EVO alot, every phone has to be better than the evo according to you. But guess what...NOONE cares what you think.

There are opinions and then there are facts.
-Better second generation 45nm 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU with 3-4x more powerful GPU.
-7 more GBs of internal storage plus a included 32 GB micro SD (compared to the 8GB that came with the EVO or dropping at least $50+ for one).
-Seems to have the better unibody aluminium casing of the Desire HD.
-Updated default Sense software.
-Add in all the usual stuff the EVO has 8MP/1.3MP main/front cameras, kickstand, LTE instead of WiMax, and DNLA instead of HDMI.
-And likely to be borrowed from the Desire HD but not announced yet: 256 MB more RAM and a better SLCD display.
It's hard to argue that the phone itself isn't better. But of course, defy the EVO in anyway and it's all distorted opinions. Right.
Good for you....then you should buy one and stfu....you came in here saying someones opinion was wrong....so bounce.

Why do people act like they have been anally violated when someone says something negative about the evo. Sure its a great phone and I love mine, but lets be honest its sporting last gen hardware. Its nothing personal its just facts. And only retards argue with facts.

Haha yeah seriously talk about some butthurt. Evo is my favorite phone of the 2010 lineup across all carriers but comeon....its CPU/GPU combo has been available since 2008. As in, available to OEMs since the G1 was new and available in consumer products since mid-2009. Not exactly cutting edge. And remember Adreno200 sucks major balls, renders 22mil triangles/sec vs 90mil on nice PowerVRs (Galaxy S). 65nm chip is old and busted compared to 45nm new hotness. Etc etc etc.
See what I'm getting at? Evo is feature packed. Has all sorts of sweet things. Just look at it as the whole package rather than looking at each part individually.
And getting butthurt cause technology is moving along and doesnt necessarily support your purchase choices is retarded. Its a damn gadget. Having some sense of arbitrary brand/model loyalty simply cause you spent $500 on a gadget is retarded too. My next phone purchase will be whatever tickles my pickle, I dont give a rats ass who makes it or what its called. Evo loyalty? Sexy as it is, this phones gonna be on Craigslist as soon as I feel theres enough change to warrant an upgrade, and I wont think twice about it.
