Looks like an awesome 1.2 Ghz dual-core phone, but it also looks like it's going to Verizon for the launch of its LTE service. I hope Sprint comes up with something better than the EVO Shift 4G. June should be exciting.

That's fake. That particular chip isn't due for about another year.
Still should be a good phone though. Like the EVO (FFC + "4G") + updated CPU/GPU, what looks like a Desire HD like aluminum casing, more storage, and 50% more RAM.
Looks really cool but I dont buy it.
It's a Verizon Evo!! Super lame if you ask me. I thought phone tech would be a lot further than what it is. Just proves that the Evo is top of the line android phone.

How is the EVO the "top of the line Android phone" when this phone betters it in just about every way? Makes absolutely no sense.

Because he said so and its his opinion. If you dont agree (and we all know you dont mr iphone i love apple guy) then so be it. But he didn't ask you for your opinion, so why are you trying to start some more drama. Seems to try to go out of your way to try and tear down the EVO alot, every phone has to be better than the evo according to you. But guess what...NOONE cares what you think.

There are opinions and then there are facts.
-Better second generation 45nm 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU with 3-4x more powerful GPU.
-7 more GBs of internal storage plus a included 32 GB micro SD (compared to the 8GB that came with the EVO or dropping at least $50+ for one).
-Seems to have the better unibody aluminium casing of the Desire HD.
-Updated default Sense software.
-Add in all the usual stuff the EVO has 8MP/1.3MP main/front cameras, kickstand, LTE instead of WiMax, and DNLA instead of HDMI.
-And likely to be borrowed from the Desire HD but not announced yet: 256 MB more RAM and a better SLCD display.
It's hard to argue that the phone itself isn't better. But of course, defy the EVO in anyway and it's all distorted opinions. Right.

Haha yeah seriously talk about some butthurt. Evo is my favorite phone of the 2010 lineup across all carriers but comeon....its CPU/GPU combo has been available since 2008. As in, available to OEMs since the G1 was new and available in consumer products since mid-2009. Not exactly cutting edge. And remember Adreno200 sucks major balls, renders 22mil triangles/sec vs 90mil on nice PowerVRs (Galaxy S). 65nm chip is old and busted compared to 45nm new hotness. Etc etc etc.
See what I'm getting at? Evo is feature packed. Has all sorts of sweet things. Just look at it as the whole package rather than looking at each part individually.
And getting butthurt cause technology is moving along and doesnt necessarily support your purchase choices is retarded. Its a damn gadget. Having some sense of arbitrary brand/model loyalty simply cause you spent $500 on a gadget is retarded too. My next phone purchase will be whatever tickles my pickle, I dont give a rats ass who makes it or what its called. Evo loyalty? Sexy as it is, this phones gonna be on Craigslist as soon as I feel theres enough change to warrant an upgrade, and I wont think twice about it.

they really should have made it a 4 inch or bigger screen, still still will be a deal breaker for me! but Dual core would be very nice
I saw this and was highly disappointed that the screen wasn't bigger. Hopefully when all the real specs come out it'll make up for it.

It's not a dual core. They picked apart a rom for it and it's the same newer version of the snapdragon as the G2.

Looks like it will be a decent phone, but I had a Hero before my Evo, and a main reason I upgraded is a bigger screen and better processor. Now at least I won't regret buying my Evo when this one comes out. I love the design, feel, and huge screen on the Evo. Plus I don't need a slide out keyboard, speakers or whatever they may invent. But we'll have to see when some more pics come out from this new phone.
My guess is they're marketing this more towards the female population. I can't speak for all of them, but as far as my GF is concerned, she doesn't want a phone the size of the evo. Sounds like a mini-evo would be perfect

Yeah, this is a little underwhelming.. I definitely would not use my available upgrade to get this over my EVO. I don't think this is their next flagship, more like you said, a way to broaden their audience even more.

Ive seen verizons lineup and I was pretty blown away especially the motorola bionic dual core processor 2ghz what?!!! We will probably see something at ctia, so it can look like the big draw of the show.
Probably won't be an Evo 2... but rather some other crappy name HTC puts on its phone. I wish they named their phones better. It would be better for them in a marketing point of view, cause all of their phones just seem so random (they create the pool of Android phones with random names and bad GPUs, lol).
Anyway, I love my Evo, just wish it was better in some areas (screen, camera, GPU)... and that's all I'm looking for in an upgrade.
CTIA is usually where Sprint shines.

If anyone read any of the stats on the evo shift, they would clearly see it's better in every aspect (as long as you dont mind no Front facing cam, and 5mb rear cam). The 800mhz is wayyyyyyyy better than the 1ghz the evo has, has more updated software all the way around. So they made the screen smaller probably to accomodate for the added thickness of having a physical keyboard. You guys need to realize it's not all about the specs all the time.. HTC knew exactly what they were doing when they put out that phone.
There wont be a evo 2....there is supposed to be the htc sabor coming out that is going to be the upgrade of the evo....google it
^As far as I know the HTC Sabor isn't real. At least no one has said anything substantial about it, and certainly nothing has been confirmed (unless you read Ozcarguide........)
Anyway I'm expecting to hear something at ctia. Not expecting an "Evo 2" per se, but at least a top-notch smartphone for sprint to lead with in 2011

No, it still is.
Keep in mind we're talking about Sprint specifically and not all carriers.
The iPhone rumors are just that.
And yes, it's just logic that [due to no CDMA exclusivity] the iPhone will come to Sprint at some point [and all carriers]
But the fact is that Sprint is going to have the next generation of phones come out in summer.
They always do.
It's more important now..more than ever before.
And it would just be the silliest...most retarded business decision in the history of business decisions to NOT follow up the highest selling phone in carrier history with a phone that is updated.
Maybe it won't be HTC, but you bet it will be dual-core and the same basic size etc of the Evo.

No, the Evo shift is actually slightly better than the Epic.
Although you're correct that the Evo Shift much improved over the Evo.
The Evo Shift IS better than the Evo, spec wise.
It has the updated core [top of the line til the tegra 2 series at CES]
It has a GPU 4x more powerful than the Evo's.
The core in the Evo Shift is 45 nm as opposed to 65nm [thus much better battery life with more power]
And, as I have said in the past, clock speed is irrelevant.
...much like the Pentium 4 3.06 ghz core is NOT faster than the i7 core that run at 2.53 GHz....

Their updates generally come in the Summer... [Pre June 09, Evo June 10 etc]
This is "delayed" versus say Verizon who gets them shortly after CES.

In all honesty, no...
Don't get me wrong, the EVO is a great phone but it was by no means "revolutionary"
The only revolutionary phones android has had thus far were the G1 and nexus one, the next revolutionary phone will be the dual cores..
The evo didn't add anything vital to android, although HDMI and front camera were nice additions they are by no means revolutionary.

Chinese "clones" all the way! First FM tuners, first analog TV tuners, first DTV tuners, first out of the box dual boot, penta-band, quad sim and so on. If it will fit in a phone they put it in or make the phone bigger. If you think I'm joking, look here:

How is it psuedo 4g? HSPA+ is psuedo 4g, Sprint is allowed to use the term 4g because there wasn't a standard when they started using it, but they ARE allowed to use it. I'll agree its not the fastest thing in the world or anything but still.
The iphone brought smartphones to the masses (even stupid people can use an iphone). The evo brought android to the masses.

I know that there was a change to what can be rightfully called 4g but Clear at its fastest still isn't faster than HSPA+ at its fastest. On top that, I was already pulling 4-5 Mbps on a non-HSPA+ phone on ATT HSPA during the summer before the EVO's launch. 4-10 Mbps really wasn't the giant leap I was expecting, especially since its use case was severely limited due to it's high power consumption and poor signal in buildings.
...and the EVO brought Android to the masses? Are you kidding? People still call my EVO a Droid.

Verizon made the public aware of Android by heavily commercializing the Droid line of phones. Therefore any Android you will have will be referred to as a Droid because the common public is dumb and believes anything that is hyped up.

I agree and disagree, you see Apple/ mac is beyond great at marketing, but the only thing that Iphone did was put all those features in ONE device!!
I recall HP Ipaq (one with a rotating camera), and Motorola a1200 Ming for touch screen, Samsung had a motion sensor on a sprint flip phone, it was used to play a dice game. But there was no great marketing for the hp devices.
See Apple/Mac did creative marketing to make it feel like you HAVE to have one to be cool and trendy and if you own one you are part of the cool group, at least that is what I gather.
it's funny how Apple makes it seem like they are great, but industry wise Palm before the merger used to have along list of patents like no other. and some stuff is just great no matter how much or how little marketing is made.
take for example, during the auto bust when manufactures were loosing money one company grew by 18% it was an import and it was not Honda nor Toyota. it was Subaru, and the reason was that when a Subaru owner decides to buy another car, their next car is a Subaru.
Toyota has had a major recall/ car issue in the past few years, Honda i have not seen has not or has not had one that was in the media, Subaru has very few recalls. For me quality is very well at Subaru, and is the one manufacture that ALL their cars are on the iihs top safety picks for 2010, not just one.
Not saying that Honda, toyota and other imports make crap cars, and some may argue that Subaru style is lacking, and i may agree, i like functionality over form.
I am a minimalist but the Iphone is not for me.
Android is good, the Evo is my first introduction to android, and i agree with everyone it is a phone that has not me eyeballing other phone whatsoever. I am eagerly awaiting what Palm/HP has in store for mobile devices this year. and probably will jump back to webOS when 2.0 and the new device on spring comes out on sprint, if the specs are similar or better than Evo.

Second generation 1ghz Snapdragon. This is beyond underwhelming, but this is Sprint afterall...
- Too bulky.
- No 4G.
- Already hinted to have terrible battery life seeing as they give you an extra battery.
- Massive fragmentation problems. Very little will take advantage of the 2nd screen.
Basically their answering questions no one asked and ignoring the ones being asked with this.
Really hope they just choose the wrong horse for the "Big" announcement and we see some good phones at MWC.
Wow,what a let down!!
I am disappointed. I've been holding out on my upgrade to see this but I guess evo it is. This dual screen concept is nice, but app support isn't there, the processor is not powerful enough, and the spec sheet I saw said 1370 mah battery---hero has 1500??? And Kyocera??

I am disappointed. I've been holding out on my upgrade to see this but I guess evo it is. This dual screen concept is nice, but app support isn't there, the processor is not powerful enough, and the spec sheet I saw said 1370 mah battery---hero has 1500??? And Kyocera??

Kyocera lol that's funny.

LMAO! This is worse than terrible... Total Fail!!!
Sprint and kyocera really missed the memo with this one. I mean, I'm all for innovation and the dual screen thing is neat but to release it among this new generation of dual core, 4g phones that every other company is coming out with? Really weak to say the least. I mean if they would have put dual core, 4g, and a fat battery, on it and then sold it, Sprint and ESPECIALLY Kyocera could have helped their reputation and it probably would have been received a lot better
They brought a knife (albeit a really cool bowie knife or something) to a gun fight.
Terrible let down...
Good thing Aosp knows how to make a hero faster than a sonofab****.
This was an "Industry First"? Maybe, if they're goal was to be the first to put a ton of hype into something, and all they got was laughter for their efforts

Dual core wouldn't help this failure.

My thoughts exactly. I passed up the EVO, Epic, and Shift in hopes of them announcing something great but I'm sticking with my Hero for sure until at least April.
If Sprint gives us more crap like this at MWC, I'm leaving for either Verizon or Tmobile who I'm sure will give us something decent from there. I might even switch to ATT for the Atrix or Inspire 4g.
I also was disappointing. It seems like a really big gimmick. From what I have read, only a handful of apps are able to handle running dual screen.
And it's really underpowered. Read that the battery life will be around a day with "heavy" use, but that must be with both batteries. The display on my Hero right now is the biggest battery muncher. Can't imagine having it double.
yeah looking through what happened yestday... sprint let us all down with this underpowered kyrocera phone. only have one good feature......the two screens that it... well good job i say and back to the drawing board.
Video, I think its stupid

Yep, basically this phone will have to run custom apps. And you can't have different apps on the screens.
This was a huge disappointment to me as well and I'm holding onto my hero until a worth while phone comes out. Also I wouldn't expect anything at MWC. Sprint will most likely announce upcoming phones at CTIA.

You sound like you just will hold onto it forever.
Which is a better phone all around? I was thinking about getting a Nexus.

just phone wise definitely nexus S.
however it doesnt have a sd card slot and the screen is abit smaller.
also consider the carrier and if you would prefer that over sprint.
I would wait till they announce the Nexus S on Sprint and make sure the specs are the same. I would assume they are with the exception of adding a CDMA radio with wimax.
Definitely Nexus S.
Evo is nearly 2 generations old. (and RAPIDLY showing its' age)

I just got mine a couple months ago and I don't real think its showing it age. I have had all the Verizon big ones like the X and the Inc and I know that they are also not the newest phones but there is always something that will be a bit better and faster. The biggest thing that I like is that Sprint is truly unlimited. Im almost up to 9 gigs with 4 days left in my cycle. I need unlimited because I had to get rid of my home internet due to lack of work in my business right now. The Nexus S is a nice phone but really..no sd card?...and I had the Fascinate with verizon and I had to depend on devs for gps fixes and usable roms but I know the S is a google phone so it shouldn't indure the lack of Samsung updates. Its all of what you like and which service does well for you in your area also.
Oh lord not another one of these threads :rolls eyes: lol
If nexus s doesn't have an sdcard slot(hopefully it does) how is it even a competitor with other smart phones out there. I'd pick my evo all day because of the huge ass screen and its an HTC. Evo 3D sounds like a winner(based on rumors).

+1 Screen and HTC
16GB of internal storage is a lot. If you need more that's fine, but 16 GB should satisfy a ton of people.
Edit: Things better on the Nexus S.
GPU: PowerVR SGX 540 can compete with the Tegra 2, EVO's Adreno 200 barely beats the original 2009 Droid's PowerVR 530.
Cameras: Samsung makes good mobile cameras, HTC includes terrible ones.
Display: SAMOLED > Lousy TFT
Internal Storage: EVO has a microSD slot but has very limited internal storage. Nexus S is capped at 16GB but has way more internal storage for Apps and 16GB is not bad at all.
NFC: I'm sure this will come in handy, will it this year? Maybe not but it's good to have one.
Gyroscope: Better gaming, especially FPS'.
Software: This is tough but you can knock a Google supported phone. Come Ice Cream time, you'll be watching Nexus S users playing with a fully working, HW accelerated OS.
It's just a really tough decision for me bc I'm thinking about getting the Nexus and giving the Evo to my girl. Don't get me wrong I love my Evo, I'm just ready for something new!

Like i said..there will always be a better phone than what you have but sometimes the network and carrier matter also..If I go 10 miles away from my house with T-Mobile I go to Edge....not on Sprint. In the end it really doesnt matter to me what people decide on..I have to use whats best for me and so does everyone else. If price matters though I'm sure you have seen if your a Bestbuy rewards zone member you can get the S for $99 on a 2 year agreement with the coupon...not a bad deal.

The Nexus S (with WiMax) is strongly rumored for Sprint.
If I can manage to keep myself from going to get that Nexus then I may just wait for the new EVO or Nexus 4G.

Is the nexus s considered the fastest android phone?
It seems to me that the Nexus S is going to be a lot more difficult to root than my EVO was. I used the original Simple Root so I guess that says A LOT!!!

I read through some of the guides and its a lot of stuff that im not too sure I know how to do. It also says that you have to re do clockwork every time you want to flash a ROM...
If the Nexus S hits Sprint, you better believe I'll be selling my EVO to buy one.
1. The earlier you sell your EVO, the more you can get for it.
2. Nexus S will sell for a lot more than the EVO by the time HTC has a dual-core badboy on the market.
You see what I did there?
I'd say Evo, but that's because I've had nothing less than perfectness from my own Evo. However, the Evo 3D was announced/leaked, so I'd wait on that, because truthfully that sounds loads better than the OG Evo. But, anyways, the Nexus S is also (I'd imagine) going to be one of the phones at the top of the list for updates since, as the adds say, it is "pure Google." and they love to roll out updates, whereas the Evo is moving down the ranks with all the new phones announced at MWC and the like. Also the Evo is a beast of a phone, much larger than the Nexus S. It's really hard to define a clear cut answer, just do research and pick the phone that provides what YOU want from it.

Really? Its a Nexus phone... While I personally dont love the Samsung construction of mine, there is something to be said of Nexus.
Part of that is the hack-ability, fastboot oem unlock. Same as N1. Literally two adb commands to root a NexusS, and recovery works just fine. Although I gotta say I miss AmonRa when using my Nexus, I just cant get used to Clockwork...
Both phones rock. NS is far beyond Evo internal wise, but I like the feel and look of my Evo far more. Only knock I have against the Evo (since buying a seidio3500, and having it last 48hours+) is the QSD8650 and Adreno200. Been available since the Eee pc in 2009....Not exactly new tech, and holy poop does my NS do 3d games like a different class of phones compared to my Evo. But then I go to HDMI the ***** to the TV for some N64oid+wiimote and....o yeah...
Edit: Forgot to mention, I think I'm gonna craigslist my NS for something dual core, if that says anything.
^^^^ see that's what I don't understand is the adb commands. How do I open the command prompts?
