Second generation 1ghz Snapdragon. This is beyond underwhelming, but this is Sprint afterall...

- Too bulky.
- No 4G.
- Already hinted to have terrible battery life seeing as they give you an extra battery.
- Massive fragmentation problems. Very little will take advantage of the 2nd screen.
Basically their answering questions no one asked and ignoring the ones being asked with this.
Really hope they just choose the wrong horse for the "Big" announcement and we see some good phones at MWC.

Wow,what a let down!!

I am disappointed. I've been holding out on my upgrade to see this but I guess evo it is. This dual screen concept is nice, but app support isn't there, the processor is not powerful enough, and the spec sheet I saw said 1370 mah battery---hero has 1500??? And Kyocera??

Great concept for a handheld console, all-around not so good for a cellphone.

LMAO! This is worse than terrible... Total Fail!!!

Sprint and kyocera really missed the memo with this one. I mean, I'm all for innovation and the dual screen thing is neat but to release it among this new generation of dual core, 4g phones that every other company is coming out with? Really weak to say the least. I mean if they would have put dual core, 4g, and a fat battery, on it and then sold it, Sprint and ESPECIALLY Kyocera could have helped their reputation and it probably would have been received a lot better
They brought a knife (albeit a really cool bowie knife or something) to a gun fight.
Terrible let down...
Good thing Aosp knows how to make a hero faster than a sonofab****.

This was an "Industry First"? Maybe, if they're goal was to be the first to put a ton of hype into something, and all they got was laughter for their efforts

My thoughts exactly. I passed up the EVO, Epic, and Shift in hopes of them announcing something great but I'm sticking with my Hero for sure until at least April.
If Sprint gives us more crap like this at MWC, I'm leaving for either Verizon or Tmobile who I'm sure will give us something decent from there. I might even switch to ATT for the Atrix or Inspire 4g.

I also was disappointing. It seems like a really big gimmick. From what I have read, only a handful of apps are able to handle running dual screen.
And it's really underpowered. Read that the battery life will be around a day with "heavy" use, but that must be with both batteries. The display on my Hero right now is the biggest battery muncher. Can't imagine having it double.

yeah looking through what happened yestday... sprint let us all down with this underpowered kyrocera phone. only have one good feature......the two screens that it... well good job i say and back to the drawing board.

Video, I think its stupid

Yep, basically this phone will have to run custom apps. And you can't have different apps on the screens.

This was a huge disappointment to me as well and I'm holding onto my hero until a worth while phone comes out. Also I wouldn't expect anything at MWC. Sprint will most likely announce upcoming phones at CTIA.

Anyone leaving the N1 for the Desire HD

I've been using the N1 for a while but have always itched for a bigger screen, is it time to upgrade or may be wait a bit longer
What are your plans?
the desire hd does sound really appealing...depending on what the price is, and if it has us 3g, i might make the switch. it would be even better if at&t didn't require a smartphone plan for the desire hd
I would, if they made the following additions/subtractions :
Add:
Bigger battery
HDMI out
RGB Trackball
AT&T 3G
Subtract:
HTC Sense
I might depending on a few factors. First if it's really gonna be that cheap plastic looking like the previous My Touch phones. Secondly if T-mobile offers a bogo within a month or like like they did the vibrant. My wife and I have our upgrades a year apart that way we can generally do a bogo and each get a new phone yearly (the exception being the N1 as there was no bogo, and I had to have it ). We are definately getting either the G2 or the MT HD.
Edit. Wups, misread the title. I thought it said My Touch HD, sorry about that.
not switching from a amoled to a none ...i switch back and forward from a vibrant to nexus one.. vibrant simple stunning ..also have a evo which is same as the desire hd and when u put them together poor evo looks very crappy ..... i do like the desire z which is the same as the g2 . might get the g2
If the desire comes to the US as the MyTouch HD and adds a front facing camera, I just might have to pull the trigger. Even Sense is starting to look appealing.
I'm quite interested in the qwerty form factor now to be honest. Although a big screen and Swype is very appealing. Wondering how well the battery will hold up with that screen sucking on the juice. Is it SLCD or SAMOLED?

The real question is:
Will it support US AT&T and/or T-Mobile bands?

Agreed. The 1.2GHz dual cores may be tempting though.
If the Desire HD supports TMOUS HSPA+ speeds, I would like to get it. But with all phones, I would have to play around with it for a while before i actually bought it. Buying a new phone without knowing what the glitches/drawbacks are is too risky anymore. I bought the HD2 thinking it would be the world's greatest phone before I played with it. Boy, was I wrong!!

Yes, I am. If it supports AT&T 3G, than it is an impulse buy for me. I really want a 4.3" phone for AT&T, and the N1 fails at that. (Although I still love it <3)

That's fake. That particular chip isn't due for about another year.
Still should be a good phone though. Like the EVO (FFC + "4G") + updated CPU/GPU, what looks like a Desire HD like aluminum casing, more storage, and 50% more RAM.
Looks really cool but I dont buy it.

Because he said so and its his opinion. If you dont agree (and we all know you dont mr iphone i love apple guy) then so be it. But he didn't ask you for your opinion, so why are you trying to start some more drama. Seems to try to go out of your way to try and tear down the EVO alot, every phone has to be better than the evo according to you. But guess what...NOONE cares what you think.

There are opinions and then there are facts.
-Better second generation 45nm 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU with 3-4x more powerful GPU.
-7 more GBs of internal storage plus a included 32 GB micro SD (compared to the 8GB that came with the EVO or dropping at least $50+ for one).
-Seems to have the better unibody aluminium casing of the Desire HD.
-Updated default Sense software.
-Add in all the usual stuff the EVO has 8MP/1.3MP main/front cameras, kickstand, LTE instead of WiMax, and DNLA instead of HDMI.
-And likely to be borrowed from the Desire HD but not announced yet: 256 MB more RAM and a better SLCD display.
It's hard to argue that the phone itself isn't better. But of course, defy the EVO in anyway and it's all distorted opinions. Right.

Haha yeah seriously talk about some butthurt. Evo is my favorite phone of the 2010 lineup across all carriers but comeon....its CPU/GPU combo has been available since 2008. As in, available to OEMs since the G1 was new and available in consumer products since mid-2009. Not exactly cutting edge. And remember Adreno200 sucks major balls, renders 22mil triangles/sec vs 90mil on nice PowerVRs (Galaxy S). 65nm chip is old and busted compared to 45nm new hotness. Etc etc etc.
See what I'm getting at? Evo is feature packed. Has all sorts of sweet things. Just look at it as the whole package rather than looking at each part individually.
And getting butthurt cause technology is moving along and doesnt necessarily support your purchase choices is retarded. Its a damn gadget. Having some sense of arbitrary brand/model loyalty simply cause you spent $500 on a gadget is retarded too. My next phone purchase will be whatever tickles my pickle, I dont give a rats ass who makes it or what its called. Evo loyalty? Sexy as it is, this phones gonna be on Craigslist as soon as I feel theres enough change to warrant an upgrade, and I wont think twice about it.

When Do you guys think the Evo 2 will come out?

Everyones being hyping the evo shift and quite frankly im not all that impressed with it if it had a front facing camera and at least 1ghz processor i would have though of getting it. Ive seen verizons lineup and I was pretty blown away especially the motorola bionic dual core processor 2ghz what?!!! We will probably see something at ctia, so it can look like the big draw of the show.
Probably won't be an Evo 2... but rather some other crappy name HTC puts on its phone. I wish they named their phones better. It would be better for them in a marketing point of view, cause all of their phones just seem so random (they create the pool of Android phones with random names and bad GPUs, lol).
Anyway, I love my Evo, just wish it was better in some areas (screen, camera, GPU)... and that's all I'm looking for in an upgrade.
CTIA is usually where Sprint shines.

If anyone read any of the stats on the evo shift, they would clearly see it's better in every aspect (as long as you dont mind no Front facing cam, and 5mb rear cam). The 800mhz is wayyyyyyyy better than the 1ghz the evo has, has more updated software all the way around. So they made the screen smaller probably to accomodate for the added thickness of having a physical keyboard. You guys need to realize it's not all about the specs all the time.. HTC knew exactly what they were doing when they put out that phone.
There wont be a evo 2....there is supposed to be the htc sabor coming out that is going to be the upgrade of the evo....google it
^As far as I know the HTC Sabor isn't real. At least no one has said anything substantial about it, and certainly nothing has been confirmed (unless you read Ozcarguide........)
Anyway I'm expecting to hear something at ctia. Not expecting an "Evo 2" per se, but at least a top-notch smartphone for sprint to lead with in 2011

No, it still is.
Keep in mind we're talking about Sprint specifically and not all carriers.
The iPhone rumors are just that.
And yes, it's just logic that [due to no CDMA exclusivity] the iPhone will come to Sprint at some point [and all carriers]
But the fact is that Sprint is going to have the next generation of phones come out in summer.
They always do.
It's more important now..more than ever before.
And it would just be the silliest...most retarded business decision in the history of business decisions to NOT follow up the highest selling phone in carrier history with a phone that is updated.
Maybe it won't be HTC, but you bet it will be dual-core and the same basic size etc of the Evo.

No, the Evo shift is actually slightly better than the Epic.
Although you're correct that the Evo Shift much improved over the Evo.
The Evo Shift IS better than the Evo, spec wise.
It has the updated core [top of the line til the tegra 2 series at CES]
It has a GPU 4x more powerful than the Evo's.
The core in the Evo Shift is 45 nm as opposed to 65nm [thus much better battery life with more power]
And, as I have said in the past, clock speed is irrelevant.
...much like the Pentium 4 3.06 ghz core is NOT faster than the i7 core that run at 2.53 GHz....

Their updates generally come in the Summer... [Pre June 09, Evo June 10 etc]
This is "delayed" versus say Verizon who gets them shortly after CES.

Biased or not, I was more interested in the phone itself. I liked the display and you could see some 3D effect when he hovered over the fake card. The camera on the back looks like an old cassette tape though.

Is it lacking somewhere for you, what would've been the extra or different push to pry the old EVO from you?
I have to admit, I've gotten a bit comfortable now with the MikG 2.1 3.0 update but its making this EVO easier to sell for me towards getting it.
I'm in the same boat as you. I feel the whole 3D thing is a phase that won't last. 3D got big in the 50s then faded out now its back. It will fade again. I also don't like all the new hardware buttons.
I would honestly like to see an EVO 2. Same basic design (except the poke out camera) yet with better hardware. I really love everything about this phone. I used to sell phones so I've had them all and haven't ever been happy. This phone really struck every chord with me. I got mine on release date and swapped for a 004 and its the longest I've ever had the same style phone. I plan to hold on to it untill something comes out that really fits the bill.
I will play with an EVO 3D though

I want to see if they launch any dual cores greater than 1.2 ghz before the the end of the year. Realistically 1ghz is perfect for what I use my phone for but might as well go all out lol. Ill just use my evo until I figure it out but im not getting evo 3D.
I will be getting this phone.
1. It's HTC
2. It has a great design and I actually like that its a bit taller and slim.
3. It's what I want in an upgrade
4. Construction looks sturdy and well built.
5. It's an HTC.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
There are a few selling points to this phone that help lift it, theoretically, over the Evo. My largest concern is the same concern that plagued the Evo, however:
Battery life.
I understand that you can activate 3D at whim, but I'm more interested in the effect Sense 3 has on battery, and how much those dual 1.2s will actually help. Ultimately, I'd need to see reviews before I even give this a look. Until then, SGS II is more on my radar than anything else.
Something else that comes to mind is it's lack of access to the PlayStation Store (or w/e it's called.) I know it's obvious that HTC doesn't have access to itbut I'm a gamer at heart and once they put out a HDMI-mirroring device with PS1 titles I'll probably blow a load, and all of the money in my wallet. (emulators don't count... unless they run on HDMI at decent speeds.)

After using a Sense 3.0 rom im not so sure that the battery life is going to improve as compared to being a little bit better for what youre getting. Every Sense 3.0 rom ive run has killed the battery amazingly fast. I think they had to make the battery bigger because if they didnt, with as much of a memory hog as the rom would be the battery probably wouldve been even worse than the Evo.
I was all about this phone for the longest time until I started seeing some of the reviews for it. Its just another evo, with some extra bells and whistles. I love my evo, of course, but to shell out money for another one a year before my upgrade, I don't see it happening. Plus I can live without a 3D screen. I guess we'll see in a few weeks.
Would the dual-core processor help battery life or hurt it? I can see it one of two ways, the processor doesnt have to work as hard, OR the battery has to power A DUAL-CORE PROCESSOR.
Meh,not that impressed.I think i'll pass.
SGS2 here i come!

Is it just me or is the supposed atrix successor...

Disappointing? Smaller battery, no fingerprint sensor and no tegra. The battery cover does look better though. I could go both ways on dedicated camera button. Everything else is kind of meh.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Yeah not exactly much better.Give me 2 more cores and then your talking

yes, a big dissappointment. seems like a step back, not forward in every way. I thought they would do a Photon 4G equivalent with a bigger screen etc? That looks like a great device and an improvement over our atrix. Seems like the Atrix 2 is slower, smaller battery (one of the best selling points on the atrix IMHO) and doesnt make a generation jump to LTE etc.
it does ave 4.3 inch screen
Im going for a Samsung Note next.
Seems to me the business people overrule the tech/specs people.
"Let's add this feature, part, ect!"

Err..
Can we have links for the successor phone pls ?
I am inclined to believe this is Edison we are talking about, but is it officially the successor ?? Specs are not official yet.
Need to have the specs+pics for putting things in better perspective.

Hilarious stuff man
But...but....it doesn't have that horrific, baby-eating pentile screen! Surely that's worthy of an upgrade!

I know i'm disappointed. Having bought a lapdock recently..I was really hoping the next gen Atrix would really expand upon that idea with bigger and better specs..not meh.

All that will do is make your pocket warmer when you play pocket Android in the winter through heat generated with no active cooling. We don't even utilize 2 cores at the moment, so 4 cores is absolutely useless other than epeen.

You would think motorola would capitalize on webtop and create a market for "lapdocks". Their half assed "try" is pitiful. They could create a flagship phone with a higher clocked dual core and two gigs of ram. Hell, as things are, the other gig of ram could be accessible by webtop only so you double data rate and it doesnt eat battery having to power that ram and not utilizing it. Perhaps with ics and the better spec'd phones coming soon something might happen.

I second this, main reason I hated my atrix was cause of the screen, if I can get my hands on one, I would swap it out for my atrix instantly.
The Bionic had an "operational" prototype back in Feb but it just got released this month (and looking completely different with different hardware). The same could be said about this. The battery, the processor, the screen, LTE, design, etc. could all be left to change when this phone actually reaches store shelves. But to even think that Motorola goes through the trouble with testing a device that is this lackluster spec-wise, and is supposed to be a successor, leaves me to believe that their marketing structure is based off of disseminating features/hardware across as many devices as possible to maximize profit which is one of the reasons I will not be buying another Moto phone anytime soon.

I agree with everything you said, but is that any different than say HTC and all their "cookie cutter" sequel phones that they crank out with the same battery issues?
Too many upcoming phones out there, but no dominant successor right now IMO...

Did everyone forget Google bought moto?? I know it was for patenting rights, but I think they will make pure Google phones in the future now. Not all, but atleast some.
I piss excellence
I read an article about a new LG phone coming out soon that looks bad ass! Basically the same as atrix but with the new Tegra, they said 1.2 or 1.5. It also had the slide out kb and 1080P recording which is probably pretty standard with new phones now. Nvidia was also saying that we should start seeing quad core phones by end of 1Q 2012. That would be nice.

Lol, not 5 years, but I can keep my Atrix for at least one more year with what AT&T have in mind for its lineup
