Hey guys, just curious since I havent gotten a chance to use a rooted phone yet.
-When google comes out with 2.2 froyo update, are we able to update it from a rooted rom or does it have to be under stock condition?
+1. will be going from cyan to stock again when froyo comes out. but how?
You'd probably have to wait until someone post the stock rom of froyo, and then flash that.
Or flash on of the numerous stock ROMs that already exist, and get OTA like the rest of us.
Or wait for cyan for his release which I believe will be soon after the official release.
You will have to wait until either someone posts a stock 2.2 ROM that world with rooted phones or someone like cyanogen updates.
Once a different recovery is installed on the phone, the OTA system will never work again. Not even if you go back to stock.
This is a complete non issue. The stock 2.2 rom may very well be available to flash here before you recieve the ota if its a rolling release. If not it will be a close race. BTW, The ota looks for a stock officially signed recovery to install itself with, if you do not have one the ota will fail.

Just out of interest (I am not making any judgements), why do you want to go from CM to stock as opposed to a CM modded version of 2.2?
Or are you just assuming 2.2 will drop before CM has time to mod it so want to get on it asap?
ill just wait for cyano to release its froyo version...
I'd be willing to bet that the features present in 2.2 will reach a version of CM before they reach any non-rooted N1. I'm just saying... we already have some of the features currently, i.e. customizable trackball notifications.
that really just depends on when google pushes the sources of 2.2 into AOSP. so chances are that a stock 2.2 will be available sooner than a cyanogen 2.2, but it will be worth the wait

That's not true. I did a warranty replacement a while back and restored the phone to stock before sending it back. I used the SAPPIMG.zip method to restore the shipping ROM, recovery, and radio. After rebooting and setting up the phone, I was offered the OTA update and the OTA completed successfully. Being bootloader unlocked did not affect my ability to get OTA updates.
A little confusion here it seems and I will throw out my understanding. An ota will work if it does not have to access an officially signed recovery, if it does and does not find one it will fail. Once you have installed a custom recovery going back to the stock one will not help in this regard because it is no longer officially signed. 2.2 will require an officially signed recovery to install and everything I read says it will be seen, it will download, then it will fail to install. If this is incorrect than I look forward to learning more about this question as it keeps popping up over and over. I have yet to hear from any owner who was able to update from 2.0 to 2.1 after having installed a custom recovery, seems like there would have been many....
I have an Orange HTC Hero which is rooted and running MoDaCo Custom Rom 3.2
I 've kind of woken up and found that in the summer finally there is Android 2.1 available and some custom 2.2 as well it seems
Now it seems that with 2.1 you get automatic updates so I was thinking of flashing it with the original unlocked with firmware 2.73.405.6.
I'm not very techy so I would like to understand a bit more the implications. The other reason I was considering the original ROM is that apparently (at least the ones I've looked at) the custom roms with 2.1 lack HTC Sense.
Am I correct or have I got all the info wrong?
Thanks for your help
You can go official. Though its not without bugs.
There are versions of 2.1 with and without sense in terms of custom roms. Launcher pro is the favorite vanilla launcher at the moment. And its very nice.
All 2.2 roms are vanilla android currently.

So, if I had to go with the official version. Does that mean that mean that my phone becomes unrooted again?
Thanks for tip on Launcher Pro. I've just seen some videos of it and it really looks nice

Thanks Guys. At the end I decided to stick with custom roms and flashed it with the Villianrom. Will see how it goes.
hi all
i got 3 branded wildfire and want to debrand it, before i do, is this the latest official rom to use?
RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.25.405.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35 .15.3
1_release_142189_signed.exe
i,m not bothered about rooting etc, just want stable unbranded phone
cheers
Thats Eclair. If you want FroYo, there are safe ROM's (With just the HBOOT Removed) on the Wildfire Android Development Forum. (2.22.405 and 2.25.720)
That apart, if you want to stick with Eclair, 1.37 is the latest one.
thanks for the reply
i,m not bothered about froyo yet as i,m sure that will be done automatically when times comes but for now i'll stick eclair.
is there a link or anything where i can get 1.37 to use for debranding similar to the 1.25 above.
cheers

Yes, that's the latest Eclair. But remember, if you do get Eclair, and then, get FroYo via the official OTA update, you will lose root capability.
It can be found here:

hi
thanks for getting back to me, ermm i,m not really bothered about root.
as long as the phone is stable and works perfectly i,m happy, but i do understand i have to use unrevoked 1st so i can use the above rom.
thanks
I am guessing this might be coming from someone once it's released, but it's been a while since I played with my phone and I'm not that tech savy on the latest on these as things are constantly moving/changing.
I'm running a 2.2 Custom ROM and would like to upgrade to the stock generic 2.3 GB once it's released and I have no clue as to the best way to do this. So once it's out, if we can get a decent step by step how to, that would be great.
Thank you.
i would say use the flashtool thread in the dev section, flash a world generic rom and the corresponding baseband. don't root it or anything like that.
sign in, then connect to pc companion and see if the update hits.
Flash stock 2.1 firmware
update your x10 thru SE software
ensure your phone is rooted and xrecovery installed then wait for pre-rooted gb update to come out on here. It will be almost certainly simply bea case of flashing kernal and baseband using flashtool and custom update using xrecovery.
i certainly would not recommend flashing your phone back to stock 2.1 roms at this point in time - if you update to stock gingerbread then rooting may become more tricky and you may well have to go back to 2.1 rooted before you can get a rooted gingerbread - we simply dont know what security fixes will be included in the gingerbread update - so we dont know how easy it will be to root it once you have updated to stock 2.3
step 1. wait for the rom to launch
step 2. go to the gingerbread thread and read!!
step 3. read before posting the same question that's been asked thousands of times already!!
Do you guys know 2.3 update is out?

I'm going for this route as well, wait for a flashtools rootable 2.3. But i don't think it will take much long, the x10 gingerbread rom is based on the one SE worked for the Arc and that was rooted pretty quickly, no?
For those still with stock 2.1 i can understand all the excitement, but for me, i've been using a custom rom with basically the same UI and features for a while, I can wait a little longer.
They were only able to root arc/play/neo 2.3.2 they are still working on a way to root 2.3.3 so far no luck.

If you are referring to using an easy one-click method to root, then yes you are correct.
But there are other ways to achieve root on 2.3.3 which involves flashing.

Yeah, I was reading the post 2 above this one swearing & shaking my fists, because I'm running j's 2.3.3 rooted rom right now....2.3.3 can be rooted, it's just gonna be a little while before it's a one-click. That's always how it goes
Now that arc, neo, play & x10 are all gonna be 2.3.3, maybe it'll get the ball rolling a little faster on one-click solutions. We do have the largest Xperia dev community in the X10 section, afterall
We can simply "repair" the phone with SEUS. SEUS will download the last version for your device and install it automatically.

maybe, but only with an unrooted, unbranded generic 2.1 rom SE says to use PCC, which means it will most likely be available for SEUS, too (IIRC, they use the exact same database for the rom updates)
Good info so far. I might sell my phone (or lend it to a friend) and it would obviously sell best with an OEM 2.3 unlocked ROM which is assumingly bug-free for the most part.
So SEUS looks at what is currently on the phone and repairs it to that?

SEUS does the same thing PCC does, but it actually works every time like it should
It reflashes your firmware....and it's saved my ass many, many times If it weren't for SEUS I'd have a bricked phone at least a dozen times over lulz

is this the official stock UK 2.3.3 rom?
check the dev section, everyone
doomlord uploaded a flashable pre-rooted GB, not as easy as one-click-root but it's here
After a while i recovered enough courage to start unlocking my DHD.
Well today was finnaly the day i did. And must say it was allot easier then i thought.
I now have a rooted 2.2 DHD with full root acces and an overclocked kernel to 1200 mhz
Now the following question comes across my mind. am i able to download the stock 2.3 gingerbread update and update that rom? or do i loose everything i have unlocked right now?
Is there a good working 2.3 rom available that i can flash with clockwork? Does a OC kernel work after a rom flash?
Thanks for your time!
Kind regards John
If you flash a new ROM, the kernel of that ROM wi be flashed over. Also, your old kernel would be incompatible. So you'd have to flash over a Gingerbread overclockabke kernel.
As for ROMs, don't ever flash stock, official OTA updates, or RUUs/unrooted updates. You will loose root, and end up with an install that is all over the place.
Finally, as to what ROM...there's a whole forum section dedicated to that. If you want as close to stock as possible, Android Revolution HD is really your only choice now; most have them have moved away from stock.
Read around the Development section if you're feeling experimental though!

+1 for Android Revolution HD, Stock looking and very very optimized! Or if you want sense 3 and HTC Sensation's like looking then download the RcMix 3D 234 v2.6.
Also, if you would like an idea of the look of a few roms - check out the ROM Screenshots link in my sig. The ROM list is also regularly updated.
Of course many rom threads have their own screenshots too.
