quick and easy fix?!.. uh.. anyway, you could contact the store you purchased the phone from and explain the the phone's camera lens is defective. you're within the first 30 days right? might as well try. it's the only way you're going to avoid the deductible.

Yeah I guess thats my only resort, I just hope they have some extra EVOs in stock and that I wont have to go without it for a few days...... I did check ebay and all they have are Lens covers for the HD2, im sure in time they'll have it for the EVO as well....

you could just get rid of the glass completely... that way it wont look like there is a crack in the glass....

Cracked screen returns advice

I've cracked my screen
Went go-karting today and got thrown around so much in the kart that the screen cracked.
So, what's the best way about getting it repaired?
Can I just send it straight back to HTC UK and get the screen replaced under warranty? My phone is rooted, but not unlocked.
I have not returned a phone yet, but as many have stated, "it does not void your warranty to root, only to unlock the bootloader" so in theory you should just be able to send it in.
.....except that warranty won't cover a cracked screen.. I think the going rate was $280?
are you insured through assurion?
You broke it, you buy it.

I dropped my N1 on the floor in my house (stone floors) two weeks ago and cracked the glass screen.. picked up a new glass screen on ebay for $38 shipped and spent about two hours replacing it myself.. turned out perfect.. just be very patient and take your time during the replacement process.
This is the damage, I don't think the glass is broken so is it just the LCD screen beneath that I'll need to replace?

No, it's the digitizer/screen. The display would be a lot more expensive to replace.
Hi mate.. if the amoled still works you are fine yiu would just need a new digitalizer, about £20 from ebay and fix it youself.. if the amolded wkrks you need a new lcd, £45 from ebay.. i nroke my amoled, fixed it and now works.. good luck!!

If that's the case, then why when I power it on does nothing appear?
It vibrates when booting so I know its working?
when i dropped my nexus one, the amoled broke, not the outer screen/digitizer. i believe the cost for a new amoled was around $85 plus shipping and it would also cost your warranty. therefore, i sent it back in for repair and it cost $115 total, warranty still intact. btw, i opted for a refurb unit instead of waiting for them to return my damaged unit.
good luck, you have to decide if its worth voiding your warranty to fix it yourself.

Sorry I missed that part.. Yeah if it's not showing anything the display has problems, although I find it odd it would break but not the digitizer.

Yeah strange isn't it, anyway, HTC are collecting it tomorrow, I'll have an estimate for repair in a few days. No idea how much it's going to be just yet.

It is gonna be high! You wille get 3 options..1) fix the phone for a very high price 2) get the phone and pay around $40 for the labour and delivery 3) dispose of the phone for free by htc.. so pretty much re use the parts for another phone..
Not a sencible choice calling htc in my opinion

Having searched the internets I've found reports of people having it fixed by HTC UK for between £60 - £100
Also, I was told if I didn't want them to carry out the work there would be a £20 fee to return the phone to cover postage and the engineers time.
I think you're estimates are way off, however, I'm going to wait until I get my quote or I'll be eating my words...

I'm impressed t0ph0id, I accidently got a slight scratch on my week old N1, it's small but I know it's there and I'm really upset about it.
You have properly screwed the screen and you seem ok with it
Wish I could be as relaxed as that haha.
Hey buddy i had the same issue with my desire.. cracked in a similar way, HTC quoted me £238 for screen, housing, new logic board & labour.. even asked them just to replaced the screen cos i did see anything wrong with the housing but they said they couldn't do it cos motherboard had been bent..
so just got a replacement lcd from ebay at £45, took 45mins to fit the new screen everything working correctly
oh and the logic board wasn't bent! cheeky HTC

I've already spoken my mobile insurance and they repair/replace accidental damage so I know I can go through them if it's going to cost too much.
They'll repair, replace, give an alternative if they don't have the model or give a cash equivalent.

no water damage sticker?

i had my phone shut off and just turned it back on and i have this huge white out spot on my lcd near where the keyboard pops up. you can plainly see it on a white background. i know it didn't get wet because it is in a body glove case.
anyways i pulled the back cover off and there is no water damage sticker on the phone at all, just on the battery. and it doesn't show it got wet at all. are new phones shipping without them because i may have to take this back for an exchange and i don't want to be accused of getting it wet.
also what is the latest 2.2 version these phone ship with, so i can run the RUU if need be.
It's a screen defunct. I have it on my phone as well, probably almost the same exact spot. You can try and get them to replace the phone for you, doesn't really bother me too much so I didn't bother trying to get a new one.

i hate dealing with sprint, took me alot to get my evo, if they give me **** ill just sell the darn thing as is or replace the lcd myself. maybe i just wont say a word and return it and get an epic instead. i know how sprint corporate stores can be.

why does my phones speaker sound like its blown on cm7?

Doesn't seem like it does it on a regular sense rom. I know that sounds weird, but its true. Anyone have any insight?
PHave you messed with dsp manager
Check if compression is check marked in that
if that's not it I don't know

Because it might be. Or you could have the Dsp on.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
If you don't have dsp on then your speaker just might be blown. It is a know issue for the Evo. I just had mine replaced Saturday at Sprint. It is probably a 15 minute job, but the tech had other stuff ahead of mine and took about an hour and a half. It's ok though I just went across the street and did my grocery shopping and when I came back he was done. My EVO now sounds crystal clear. I unrooted and went back to stock Sprint before taking it in though.
If you're in a "do it yourself" kind of mood & you dont feel like unrooting, you can order a replacement speaker here:
http://www.evospeaker.com/
However, you will void your warranty doing it this way.
Same thing for me
I noticed the same thing with cm7. I just dont turn the volume all the way up and I dont really hear it. My speaker is not blown out. When I went back to sense rom to do gps fix It was not present too.
I ordered a 5-pack of evo speakers for 30 bucks off ebay. Best 30 bucks I've ever spent. They go out here and there. I've used 3 since Thanksgiving. Takes me 5 minutes. Do it yourself, don't hassle yourself going to Sprint.

I guess if it voids my insurance then it wasn't a good idea =\
I did it myself tho... easy as pie. Just be careful when prying the phone apart..
**edit** Does asurion cover lost/stolen phones for the 7$ a month they charge? if so, if I ever needed to use it.. I could just report it lost? I'm not trying to scam anyone... but would hate to void my insurance that I paid for the last year just because I replaced the speaker myself.
I needed a replacement speaker also.

Asurion.. claiming lost instead of damaged

If I claim damaged to asurion will they make me send in my phone(bricked)? vs.. claiming lost phone I can keep my original? .... is this cheating?
Cheating? No.
Insurance fraud, a criminal act? Yes.
is me bricking the phone covered legally? If I tell them I messed it up will they cover it?
Un-brick it....seriously. There is enough information on this fora to fix 99.9999999% of all problems with this phone. Stop being lazy.
Well.. I've got an galaxy s 4g.. so not so easy..I've been fairly persistent in trying for about 3 days.. problem is no .pit file available. I've tried everything.. get a couple tar's to load about 95 percent but fail right at the end. I do have an extra tmo phone i can use for the time being but the sms4g forum is a very small group compared to the vibrant community here. I know something will probably come out in time but the way things look on our board it could be some time.
You're in the wrong forum...
It is insurance fraud....get F*cked if you are trying to "beat" the system. You knew what could happen if you played around, and now you want to wash your hands of it. Have patience.
I mean you could tryv and play the pitty game and say "i master reseted it and it broke idk whats going on?!?" Then hope they dont find out. And if they do say you have no idea what they are talking about.

In that case, I'd say they also don't mind raising the rates for everyone to cover all the extra payouts caused by these sort of folks. Sure insurance goes up every year but if you think this irresponsible behavior has no bearing on that then I must strongly disagree.

Broken devices are still worth money. A bricked phone can still be reflashed by the manufacturer and resold as a refurb, or components from it can be reused on other damaged/broken devices.
If you report it damaged you have to send the device back. Lost, you don't because you obviously don't have it. Stolen, you don't, but you'll need to provide them with a police report # to get a replacement.
Well I struggled a bit with this.. but bottom line is I had no intention of damaging the device.. kinda like if I took it to a water park and it got wet...or when I take it when I go jogging I know I'm at risk at dropping it. It's not like I damaged it on purpose just to get a new one. So I made the claim and was honest when describing the damage... it said I needed to call them for them to research my damage more.. so I called and they didn't ask me anything.. just where I want the new one sent. They also told me I had the option of sending the damaged one back or not.. if I didn't that Tmobile would charge me another $30 dollars. I specifically asked her if I wanted to keep it for future problems like glass breakage or something else and she said it was totally up to me and just to remember the $30 dollar charge.
So tonight someone posted a .pit file and of course it worked and I'm back up and running so tomorrow I'll call and let them know it started working again and will send the replacement back and hopefully get my $130 returned sooner than later. THanks for the replies.. was good to get some feedback.

This is exactly why the subsidized price point for new Smartphones jumped from 199 to 299 within just 1 yr.
You are adult enough to know that messing with your phone can brick it, you should be adult enough to take financial responsibility instead of abusing the warranty.
Actions like this lead to stricter warranty policies, horrible return/exchange policies, and like I already mentioned...increased price points.

Thank you.
And FYI for those who don't know.. even if they find it "out of warranty" the replacement cost is only 90 bucks.. But who am i to deny a free replacement..
Because of so many phones being sent in bricked, not having the problems they stated, or just trying to push the exchanges to get a multiple/alternate exchange, T-mobile has changed the warranty exchange policy to include a $20 processing fee plus shipping with those that don't have an extended warranty/insurance. Those that kept insurance are fine with only paying $5 and it gets shipped express.
Wish I had a damn warranty.. My first vibrant I got off Craigslist it looked fine and all when I first checked it out in person. But when I got home and tried to charge it the damn usb port was dead. Gave up on trying to replace usb port, so found another on Craigslist with a broken screen for cheap, just swapped boards and now all is well. I probably could have saved money just upgrading my contract for one, but really wanted to wait for newer devices this year.
