Removing application problems - HD2 General

After restoring some of my phones databases after a hard reset I have found that in my application list I have a whole bunch of stuff that I had installed previously but don't currently have installed. After highlighting and clicking 'remove' it brings up a message saying the program isn't installed but would I like to remove it from the list of apps. So I obviously click yes...yet the application remains in the list.
This has made the list somewhat difficult to sift through in order to find a genuinely installed app. Is there any other way I can remove these names from the list?
Thank you.

There may be an easier way, but the best way I found was to reinstall the app, then remove it ...

@Redeyedrichard
sometimes reinstalling doesnt work...i found another fix online which works...
Start memmaid
jump to > databases > database usage> SwMgmtMetadataStore > browse
Look for the entry which cannot be uninstalled, highlight it and delete it
don't forget to soft reset after

Go to the folder \Windows\AppMgr and you'll see folders of (presumably) installed software.
Delete any folder in here that you want.
(But, when you delete a folder that program cannot be uninstalled normally, so take care to remove only those which have been restored and not reinstalled!)

Not quite sure how to access this...what is "memmaid"??? Thanks.
And Bright Light, your suggestion didn't work. All of the apps appear in that folder are currently installed. Thanks anyway.

OOOPs I need some help please

Somehow I have removed all the shortcuts from my programs folder, i.e. they no longer show up when i press start, all i get is
Today
Programs
Settings
If I go into programs all i see is the games folder
I can still run the programs from their defualt folders.
Anyone know a quick way to reinstall all these shortcutS or am I going to have to do them all manually ?
Not sure i even know what files types (shortcuts) or where they should be.
I am assuming they should be in /windows/programs as it is nothing there ?
Help
Cheers, Numb
re
OK sorry for wasting yer time, admins remove or delete as you feel fit.
For the record though, not that anyone is likely to ever do this but....
This is how I believe I caused the problem
It started when I was trying to load an irc app on my phone.
I needed to put the app in /windows/startmenu and run from there
I copied across from my desktop
Using resco explorer I went into /windows/startmenu but it wasn't there.
So foolishly i started playing around and somehow in properties decided to untick/tick the hidden box for attributes
The result was that all files in /start menu/program folder were hidden
So by changing it back (somehow!!) through the properties, attributes, it's now all back.
So if your still reading this (fools) sorry, user error on a big scale.
Cheers, Numb

help with random access

My random access has stopped working. Contacts load up, but for some reason the bar across the side is gone! I attempted to reinstall it, checked the registry to see that the settings were how they were supposed to be, and they were. I finally just installed another .cab i found for random access and it just made it so my contacts wouldn't start at all!
luckily i had backedup earlier today, but apparently the problem was then too because i still don't have random access. If anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them.
Here are the files for the non cab random access. Open the file names up on your computer and go into the windows and delete them as well as uninstall the cab you have.
If you want to reset your registry back to normal? Here is the origional key
":MSPOUTLOOK contacts"
You can also remove all the stuff and soft reset. make sure your contacts work and then drop all the files but the note into \Windows. redo the reg edit, you should be good.
Here you go. Let me know if that works.
where can i get the cabbed version? every download i get is the non cabbed version, and i can never get it to run, thanks
I figured it out, could be help other people who can't ever seem to get random access to work.
In contacts go to Menu - Options - Uncheck Show alphabetical idex
That fixed the problem for me.

What are these folders??? Why do they keep multiplying???

What are these folders??? Why do they keep multiplying???
I had set every application I have to store anything to my Flash Disk to save my internal memory, but these folders keep multiplying (see attached pictures)...
Can I just delete them??? What or which application is creating them???
They are labelled as: XMEInst017.........
I think those are just junk created by some crap wares. Deleting them shouldn;t cause any issues. Any idea of what all apps installed on your Athena?
Regards,
Carty..
Those folders have to do with your browser activity/sites,
everytime you go on line it will create more.
I have erased them before with no ill effects.
lol...nope i don't see any and i go online...ie opera browser...hehe looks maybe a hard reset is needed.

Ahhhhh!!! I hate doing hard resets. Not when everything is working fine except the creation of those XMEInst.......... folders.
Where is your default folder for cookies, etc.... pointing to? I have mine set to the Flask Disk. Do you have yours pointing to the main memory? Maybe you need to check there if you have them too?
I don't mind it eating the memory of my flash disk as it can easily be erased. I don't like anything eating away from my main memory.

I also noticed they are empty, I'll investigate this more and see if they are really related to my browser activity.
Do you know which browser? Is it Pocket Internet Explorer or Opera?
OK, ... I think the creation of these folders are related to RSS Hub.
Can anyone confirm? Because I have not used PIE or Opera today and just used RSS Hub to get my feeds. I then noticed the XMEInst......... folders increased by 1.
I need someone to confirm please.
I deleted everyone of those folders since they are empty anyway. I then performed a soft reset and the folders are totally gone. Used RSS Hub and still no folders. I will now check PIE and Opera to be sure.

Check the location you have specified in HKLM/system/filesys/TempPath. You must have changed it to your flashdisk.

Yes I did changed them. I prefer that it eats up the flash disk than my main memory.
Anyway, I did find out which application creates it. The culprit is OPERA. The folders can be deleted safely with no ill effects as suggested from above.
Another thing I observed. You need not delete them manually because if you go to OPERA's settings and delete all cookies, history, passwords, and cache; all the XMEInst......folders disappear on their own.
Thank you to everyone who responded.

Manually removing applications from the Uninstall programs list?

Hey there!
I wonder if there's any way to manually remove an item in the list of installed application on Xperia (WM6.1)? I have a couple of annoying programs there that just won't go away. WM said that the uninstallation couldn't be fully performed in these cases, and asked if I wanted to remove the items from the list. But they are still there. I even made a system search and removed all files related to those programs, and I also deleted all references to them in the registry. But they continue to appear on the list. Where the heck are they stored, I wonder? Is it text in a specific file? Suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks
Same problem here.

You can delete the icons manually from the folder \Windows\Startmenu\ of your device.
It takes ages to get to Windows folder on my device About 3 minutes to get to folder....

Same here, when I had the "sort" feature set to "type" (in file explorer).
Open file explorer, at the very top-right, select "name" and then go to your windows directory..should load it much faster
GryphonLeon thx. It works much faster now
chr5s11 Thank You for advice. Works perfectly
