My random access has stopped working. Contacts load up, but for some reason the bar across the side is gone! I attempted to reinstall it, checked the registry to see that the settings were how they were supposed to be, and they were. I finally just installed another .cab i found for random access and it just made it so my contacts wouldn't start at all!
luckily i had backedup earlier today, but apparently the problem was then too because i still don't have random access. If anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them.
Here are the files for the non cab random access. Open the file names up on your computer and go into the windows and delete them as well as uninstall the cab you have.
If you want to reset your registry back to normal? Here is the origional key
":MSPOUTLOOK contacts"
You can also remove all the stuff and soft reset. make sure your contacts work and then drop all the files but the note into \Windows. redo the reg edit, you should be good.
Here you go. Let me know if that works.
where can i get the cabbed version? every download i get is the non cabbed version, and i can never get it to run, thanks
I figured it out, could be help other people who can't ever seem to get random access to work.
In contacts go to Menu - Options - Uncheck Show alphabetical idex
That fixed the problem for me.

Somehow I have removed all the shortcuts from my programs folder, i.e. they no longer show up when i press start, all i get is
Today
Programs
Settings
If I go into programs all i see is the games folder
I can still run the programs from their defualt folders.
Anyone know a quick way to reinstall all these shortcutS or am I going to have to do them all manually ?
Not sure i even know what files types (shortcuts) or where they should be.
I am assuming they should be in /windows/programs as it is nothing there ?

re
OK sorry for wasting yer time, admins remove or delete as you feel fit.
For the record though, not that anyone is likely to ever do this but....
This is how I believe I caused the problem
It started when I was trying to load an irc app on my phone.
I needed to put the app in /windows/startmenu and run from there
I copied across from my desktop
Using resco explorer I went into /windows/startmenu but it wasn't there.
So foolishly i started playing around and somehow in properties decided to untick/tick the hidden box for attributes
The result was that all files in /start menu/program folder were hidden
So by changing it back (somehow!!) through the properties, attributes, it's now all back.
So if your still reading this (fools) sorry, user error on a big scale.
Cheers, Numb
I've recently run into an odd error. Suddenly, the only ring that work is T-Mobile Defualt (sounds like a piano). I previously was using OldPhone.wma for the default ringtone with a few .MP3s for some contacts.
If I try using either Phone or Sound and Notifications in the Settings, it won't allow me to choose any other ring. If I do, it sets its back to Windows Default and further, neither app will close. I have to use the start menu to return to the Today screen.
I just installed the Custom Profile freeware app. This app recognizes all the old rings and plays them within it's own app but doesn't effect the phone when it rings. Basically, I'm stuck with this 1-ringtone.
I did some searching and noticed some apps might interfere with this. The only music-oriented app I've installed in iMusic, but I've since removed it and still no luck. I also tried the Ringtone Reg Hack to move the ringers to the Storage Card, but that's not working either. Is it possible to Phone and Sounds and Notifications apps are corrupt?
There is a good chance that Windows Media Player has lost its file association to .wma
To test if this is the cause of the problem, go to Start>Settings>Phone and change the Ringtone to something else. Before clicking 'ok' try to press play and see if it actually plays. If not, then WMP losing the association is probably the cause of the problem.
Keep us updated on your problem. If this is the problem, and you want help restoring the associations, just reply here

I failed to mention what you just said in my original post. The play button does not play the file; however, the Profile app does (I know you didn't ask that, just thought I'd mention it). How might I restore the associations and did this happen as a result of installing iMusic 2.10?
Thanks!
I did a Google search and figured out how to change the file associations via Resco File Explorer. Thanks!
Since you were so quick to respond, can you take a look at this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44173? I'm have no e-mail at the moment.
Sorry, I can't help with regards to the other post.... I am not sure what the problem is.
I would suggest investing in Sprite Backup v5.1 as that is far more reliable.
I would suggest when you restore a backup after a ROM upgrade that you only restore your personal files and PIM; restoring programs or system files may cause problems like this
By the way, is the ringtone problem solved? I was going to ask you to use the attached CAB file to correct the extensions as Resco Explorer does not do it properly:
Can anyone help with resolving this problem? The lower softkey backgrounds have changes to grey ISO black. It happened before with a game, but the the problem went when I uninstalled it.
Now the problem came back after I put CE Star on, but even after I removed CEStar, cleared the installation folders and soft reset a few times the problem remains. I could be wrong to blame CES, but it was the last program on before the issue came up.
I tried disabling and re-enabling touchflo, changing themes around and back to black etc. I left it switched off overnight to think about settings sticking but still no joy.
Grateful for any suggestions and thanks.
[Edit : It seems to have been caused by "big5vcs.tbl" and/or "GBxxx.tab" (xxx I forgot the full filename) being left behind in the \Windows directory. Deleting them and a soft reset resolved the softkey colour issue.]
I have the exact same problem on my HTC Touch HD. But idont have those 2 files you mentioned..does anyone know exactly why this happens? there must be some other file for me in my windows directory that must be causing it. how did you know which files were to be deleted?
I'm always wary when installing potentially incompatible programs.. especially with the HD and its huge screen. Take some time to poke around the windows folder and look for any orphan files. In my case suspect files as I named above were dated on the date/time I put CE-Star on, so I knew they should be safe to delete.
This still leaves room for error though, so be sure of what you're doing. I suggest you try to back track and remove software/revert settings changes in reverse order until you fin the culprit! Searching here may also help if you have suspicious programs.
Solved!
Great news..i'm able to solve the problem..now i have the black soft keys back! What i did was used Memmaid to see what was starting up with windows, and disabled the items i didnt need to start up..in my case, it was Mapking_sms.exe and batti__sumthing__.exe.
After disabling those, a soft reset got everything back in order again... fewh..
hope this helps other people as i have searched for a solution for this problem for weeks!!
After restoring some of my phones databases after a hard reset I have found that in my application list I have a whole bunch of stuff that I had installed previously but don't currently have installed. After highlighting and clicking 'remove' it brings up a message saying the program isn't installed but would I like to remove it from the list of apps. So I obviously click yes...yet the application remains in the list.
This has made the list somewhat difficult to sift through in order to find a genuinely installed app. Is there any other way I can remove these names from the list?
Thank you.

There may be an easier way, but the best way I found was to reinstall the app, then remove it ...
@Redeyedrichard
sometimes reinstalling doesnt work...i found another fix online which works...
Start memmaid
jump to > databases > database usage> SwMgmtMetadataStore > browse
Look for the entry which cannot be uninstalled, highlight it and delete it
don't forget to soft reset after
Go to the folder \Windows\AppMgr and you'll see folders of (presumably) installed software.
Delete any folder in here that you want.
(But, when you delete a folder that program cannot be uninstalled normally, so take care to remove only those which have been restored and not reinstalled!)

Not quite sure how to access this...what is "memmaid"??? Thanks.
And Bright Light, your suggestion didn't work. All of the apps appear in that folder are currently installed. Thanks anyway.

i used SKTools for the same problem and it works perfectly :d
I have Win Mobile 6 pro and was working perfect.
Code:
The file xxx cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted cerfificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.
Yesterday phone was on charging and it's showing the S2U2 charging and I picked up and unlocked and it started showing this error on running any software and even not running startup programs and services. Even it's not getting phone calls except SMS.
I didn't changed/configured or installed any software or any configuration in it for about a month and no possibility of doing anything wrong. It just created this problem in my hands in a minute.
I searched around forum and already tried two of the registry fixes but nothing.
I can hard reset easily but I don't want to loose my Contacts/Address book. If there can be possibility to backup contacts I'll Hard Reset it. I can connect through Active Sync and I can edit registry through CERegEditor.

you need to install SdkCerts to sign the file/s you're using to make it/them eligible to be installed on the device. It's just like a consent from the developers for their OEM softwares to their users. To make the device accepts the file/s, the SDKCert have to be installed on the device for key matching purposes....
used PIM Backup to backup/restore the Personal information of the Pocket PC like Contacts, Appointments, Tasks etc.
Thanks for your attention and reply.
One thing I want to tell you, it just started suddenly and before this problem all programs are running smoothly without any signing etc. Currently it's running only few software i.e. File Explorer, Solitaire and few more and it's not shows error even in Calculator, Contacts and other built-in programs.
I can't understand wht's the difference in Calculator and Solitaire one is running other not.

This indicates that there is one of the files(dll file) needed for the process of loading the program is gone (may be erased) ! My advice, hard reset your device back to factory default settings but first make a backup
Now that is the point, how can I make backup. I only need contacts nothing else.
It's getting worse day by day, now it's not even starting, stuck at T-Mobile splash and stays there. I tried taking out SD card, SIM etc. but I couldn't able to boot it.

Hakim sb, thanks for your suggestion. That's already in consideration but 1st I want to have backup of address book.
Do you know way to get backup of address book.
maybe you need to see this to be backing up address book http://www.godswmobile.com/how-to-transfer-contacts-for-windows-mobile-phone.html
Thanx again for you assistance. Earlier before making any registry changes through PC it was atleast starting and accessible through PC and I had chance to copy contacts file wherever it's located but now it's not starting at all, hangs at T-Mobile splash screen.
Is there any way to read memory and copy/backup contacts file through PC or any other way.
