Ringtones Cease Working - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I've recently run into an odd error. Suddenly, the only ring that work is T-Mobile Defualt (sounds like a piano). I previously was using OldPhone.wma for the default ringtone with a few .MP3s for some contacts.
If I try using either Phone or Sound and Notifications in the Settings, it won't allow me to choose any other ring. If I do, it sets its back to Windows Default and further, neither app will close. I have to use the start menu to return to the Today screen.
I just installed the Custom Profile freeware app. This app recognizes all the old rings and plays them within it's own app but doesn't effect the phone when it rings. Basically, I'm stuck with this 1-ringtone.
I did some searching and noticed some apps might interfere with this. The only music-oriented app I've installed in iMusic, but I've since removed it and still no luck. I also tried the Ringtone Reg Hack to move the ringers to the Storage Card, but that's not working either. Is it possible to Phone and Sounds and Notifications apps are corrupt?

There is a good chance that Windows Media Player has lost its file association to .wma
To test if this is the cause of the problem, go to Start>Settings>Phone and change the Ringtone to something else. Before clicking 'ok' try to press play and see if it actually plays. If not, then WMP losing the association is probably the cause of the problem.
Keep us updated on your problem. If this is the problem, and you want help restoring the associations, just reply here

I failed to mention what you just said in my original post. The play button does not play the file; however, the Profile app does (I know you didn't ask that, just thought I'd mention it). How might I restore the associations and did this happen as a result of installing iMusic 2.10?
Thanks!

I did a Google search and figured out how to change the file associations via Resco File Explorer. Thanks!
Since you were so quick to respond, can you take a look at this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44173? I'm have no e-mail at the moment.

Sorry, I can't help with regards to the other post.... I am not sure what the problem is.
I would suggest investing in Sprite Backup v5.1 as that is far more reliable.
I would suggest when you restore a backup after a ROM upgrade that you only restore your personal files and PIM; restoring programs or system files may cause problems like this
By the way, is the ringtone problem solved? I was going to ask you to use the attached CAB file to correct the extensions as Resco Explorer does not do it properly:

phone profiles 5.5 trial making screen flicker and xda reset

i have just been testing out phone profiles. no sooner had i started to play around with it my screen started to flicker and the system kept of reseting itself.
has anyone else had this problem? :?
does anyone have a copy of 3.1 trial instead?
Is it really due to Phone Profile? I've also installed Phone Profile 5.0 on my XDA II, just last week. These two days it kept restart by itself, anytime anywhere. I tried hard reset the device but the problem still persist. I've no choice but to sent it for servicing, can only get it back in another two days.
I have not had any major issues with the Phone Profiles 5.5 trial download, but I cannot seem to remove the Program through the normal channels. Neither Active Sync, item grayed out and can't uncheck it, or via PPC removal process-says it is running, but it is not or at least I can't stop it.
Any suggestions?
Ed
i remember seeing something in another post regarding a .dll file in the \windows folder which is run on boot. renaming this file and doing a soft reset prevented this from reoccuring.
maybe you will be able to stop the process long enough to disable it. there is a free program called phm task manager which may give you a chance to end the task and rename the .dll
First solution is the right one.
1- When you try to uninstall it, remember the locking file name
2- Rename this file
3- Soft-reset
4- uninstall
5- delete renamed file
Seems to be a really usefull and nice tool but too much bugs for me: 2 popups (with IA-Caller ID) on incoming call, problems when tried to use my own template, no group-ringing... Had to uninstall too. I think I'll buy it when debugged !

muting

Hi. Im having a problem with my T-mobile MDA but using a cingular sim. Using prepaid account. I want it to go all silent, so when i use it in class, theres no sound.
I've turned the volume to off but whenever I send a text message theres a sound that plays right after it sends. I have turned all the sound in the settings/sounds and notifications folder and unchecked all of the boxes in the sound and notifications tab. right after that i tried sending a text message again. Again, I get this message from cingular telling me how much money i still got on my account, and it plays a sound along with it. I found out that its the "Notify" sound. so I went back to the notifications tab and selected every single event to play a different sound. After that I tried to check again and sent a text message... and the sound still plays.
've done all I try that I would know of but i cant seem to make that sound disappear. maybe someone can find out a way to fix this? maybe something to edit in the registry? Thanks much!
Bryan
I believe the only way to accomplish what you want would be to replace the notify sound with an empty sound file. I'm not entirely sure where the file is located, but I believe it was in the Windows folder somewhere.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42022&highlight=disable+system+sounds
hmmm i tried what they said... and its weird the sound now turned into a small beep but still audible. i tried overwriting notify.wav with a no sound file and but it now changed into a beep. kinda hard not to get noticed specially when the whole class is quiet. im starting to have doubts with my phone. cant even go on full silent mode.
Did you replace it with:
A) simply a 0-byte text file renamed to a .wav
B) an actual .wav file complete with headers and such?
The reason I ask is because I assume if the system tries to play the file described as "A)" it will beep because it is missing the headers and isn't actually a valid .wav
i tried doing different stuff
1. making a wav file out of a text document and just renaming the file extension.
2. making a wav file with no sound using a sound recorder.
there are some things that i noticed. when i changed "notify.wav" by overwriting it with a wav file with the same name from my desktop, the sound produced changed into "Voicbeep.wav". i figured that it can only play sounds from the windows folder that cant be deleted.
so the only thing i was able to do was pick one of the wav files thats originally in the windows folder that made the least attention catching, and short, (ones that cant be deleted), copied it to my desktop. then renamed it to Voicbeep.wav since it was the sound being played ever since i messed with notify.wav. its less annoying now... but still audible.
sucks that this phone cant be turned fully silent.
Unfortunately, I'm not on prepaid so I can't reproduce your situation and try to fix it on my phone.
Good luck man, I know how it can be when a small thing that should be so easy to fix just won't go away.
its alright. at least something was done to remedy the situation. i appreciate it much aron7awol. thanks a lot
hurrah! i was able to fix it! well to anybody who gets any problems with sounds that play even if the phone is in mute mode and if that sound is found in the windows folder follow these steps to get rid of it.
things you'll need:
total commander
a no sound wav file
lets say the file i want to turn off is: notify.wav
steps:
1. on your computer rename the wav file to the name of the file you want to replace or turn silent. (this case notify.wav)
2. transfer the notify.wav into any folder in your phone
3. use total commander to transfer the file in the windows folder.
(in the thread thats previously posted, it all ends here)
4. using total commander, select the file and select properties.
5. check the system box. (i think this was the only thing unmentioned) but oh well... i think this would work good for any other system file that you want to erase
*if you dont check the system box, it will find a different system wav file to play instead*
voila! sound is replaced and wont play again
nice one mate....worked for me

WMP Error ( yeah you all know about it )

So people,
Is there allready a solution for the library problem ?
Cause every single time! I exit media player i need to
- Delete MSMETADATA
- Update the library
Then I can play my songs, after exit and reopen and yeah all gone.
Is there a good freeware program i can use instead of this crappy ms player?
btw; i have a 2gb storage card and never have problems with the windows explorer.
Yep..I know all about it..
for as far as I know there is no direct solution, there is a thread, where you can edit your register for disappearing SD-Cards..but thats doesnt fix the problem for WMP..
Dont update your library, and all is fine, you can maually create playlists, or just play mp3's right from explorer, or select open file, and go through the whole dirctory....sounds like ppl are overcomplicating this.

that doesnt make any sens...
i just want to update and have it saved for more than one *** day..
every time I sync with the pc its all gone ;s
yeah... pain isn't it. what I do is backup the MSMETADATA-folder. Then, when my playlist disappears i delete the old one and copy the backup back (you have to delete the old one, you can't just overwrite it!).
It's also a nuisance, but it doesn't take as long as updating the library again.
If you back up your msmetadata folder to the same place every time, maybe you could set up a couple of macros with VJKeyPress - one for "delete msmetadata" then once that's finished one for "replace with backup"... If you have to do it often I'd certainly make a macro for it.

help with random access

My random access has stopped working. Contacts load up, but for some reason the bar across the side is gone! I attempted to reinstall it, checked the registry to see that the settings were how they were supposed to be, and they were. I finally just installed another .cab i found for random access and it just made it so my contacts wouldn't start at all!
luckily i had backedup earlier today, but apparently the problem was then too because i still don't have random access. If anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them.
Here are the files for the non cab random access. Open the file names up on your computer and go into the windows and delete them as well as uninstall the cab you have.
If you want to reset your registry back to normal? Here is the origional key
":MSPOUTLOOK contacts"
You can also remove all the stuff and soft reset. make sure your contacts work and then drop all the files but the note into \Windows. redo the reg edit, you should be good.
Here you go. Let me know if that works.
where can i get the cabbed version? every download i get is the non cabbed version, and i can never get it to run, thanks
I figured it out, could be help other people who can't ever seem to get random access to work.
In contacts go to Menu - Options - Uncheck Show alphabetical idex
That fixed the problem for me.

Music Tap/ Ringtone/ Resco Expore Today Plugin Error

Hi Guys!
Did anyone of you experience these bugs happen together?
1. The ringtone suddenly disappear or no ringtone no sound but vibrate.
2. Play music from HTC Sense fail. Keep changing to the next songs until the album finish, but there's no sound playing. Even you select one song only but still cannot play anything.
3. If anyone of you have Resco Explore Today Plubin, you'll found out there's no icon showing at your today screen. But tap it it's working.
After few tests, I found out that these kind of problem can be recover from reset the connection through the "connection setup". Or restore my HD2 from another back up file from spb backup 2.
I discover these bugs will show up after I did these few things:
1 Bad reception for more then 10 to 20 mins.
2 After browning internet by using Opera 9.7 or Opera 10 beta 2 (I assume it's the internet connection problem)
3 Update the contact information from the contact> facebook update.
I'm using 1010 at HK and did install the CSL hotfix from HTC, before I though that it's the hotfix file problem, but someone using Smartone has experience the same bugs.
I tried to delete the all the registry from HTC sense regarding the music tap; delete the file under the folder Application Data> HTC> AudioManager_Eng. But still cannot have the music play from HTC Sense.
So anyone feel the same bugs? Pls share!!!!!
No body help??
any ideas?
I have the same problems with my phone. Does any of your media-files work? Does WMP open the files?
In my case
.WMP just won't open. (Not directly opening the app, or by opening a MP3 file.)
.No sound from the HTC Sense music-tab
.No ringtone what so ever. (Even after selecting a ringtone, my HD2 says i have selected no ringtone. Indicated by "None")
yes! these kind of bugs happen sometimes as well, really need help here....
I have the same problem!
No sound at all! Ringtone just says "none".
I am on a Dutch 1.48ROM and all I did was install JWMD Icon Changer and Brian's Taskbar, but I do not know if it is related to those apps.
This is the second time it happend to me!
First time i fixed it with a hard reset, but I hope there is another solution.
