Is anyone experiencing issues with the EVO back plate (battery cover) shifting. By this I mean that the battery cover shifts from one side is no longer flush on one side when it shifts.
I live in Arizona and is very hot. The phone is in my pocket very rarely and always in my hands. Not sure what to think here.
I have the screen detachment issue and now I have some light leakage from the bottom left screen edge but that's a Diff thread.

I had a perfectly working Evo I got on launch day from Radio Shack. The back cover was flush, perfect. The only nagging problem was that the speaker was crackling so my Radio Shack called this morning to tell me my replacement finally arrived.
I rushed to the store and they started the process. When Eric (my original sales rep) handed me the phone I immediately checked the fit of the back cover and it was off. If your looking at the back of the phone, its the upper right part, where the headphone jack is, that is raised, not tight.
They tried my old cover and the new cover multiple times and then they looked at how tight my original phone was to see that there really was a big difference.
They ordered me a new phone.
Yes, I have one of thse crappy battery covers also. I'll probably go to Bestbuy and ask for a battery cover replacement (assuming HTC fixes grounding issue via software OTA) from a returned phone.

I recently got a replacement Xperia from O2 after my old one had a severe backlight bleed, however, one thing stands out for this one with me.
The slider seems very loose, so loose that when you close an application by tapping 'X', the left side of the screen rises about half a millimeter.
Also, when the phone is opened, the screen is loose, e.g. shaking the device slightly causes the screen to 'Flap' in a sense.
I can't remember if my original had a loose slider, so fellow X1 owners....Is this common? Is it worth ringing O2 again?

well, i have my xperia for some 2 months and the screen is also very loose, when i open it i can see that the right metalplate that holds the screen moves about 1mm up and down, the left one is steady in place tho... when it's closed i can even insert my touchscreen pen in between the screen and keyboard... it's that loose... i figure it happens over time... i never let it fall down on the floor and i always use a hard leather bag on my belt to carry it. It's a bit annoying tho, the phone doesn't feel nearly as solid as when i bought it. But the thought of having to send the phone for repair and have to wait i don't know how long to have it back, is holding me from doing anything about it...
But maybe it happens with all or most phones...?
Well, according to the staff at the service centre here, the looseness is cos of the curved sliding mechanism. Asked if they could tighten it and they said if tightening it would cause the keyboard to get scratched.
lol that's such a lame excuse... it was tightened when it was brand new lol
Mine may be a little loose, but it has not gotten worse since I got it a few months ago. It is as I expected from a slider phone. It still feels tight and top quality.
It's difficult to discuss things like this without trying your phone and vice versa. I guess if you feel your phone is too floppy and not as tight as one can expect, you should definately talk to the service guys again.

Since I got my X1 at the end of Oct 2008 the slider has become loose compared to when it was new and I have compared it to other new X1's in stores. I found that the backplate of the slideout, at the exposed long side of the phone, between the two "tracks" has come loose from the actual top part and this is causing allowing the slider to move. In the new X1's i checked this parts was firmly attached to the top part and the slider was very nice and firm. I think SE may have a manufacturing problem here and I've turned mine in for repair. It will be interesting to see if they fix it or come back and say "abuse". I use it professionally and I have a original SE beltpouch for it.
Apart from this little problem I love the phone and it's functions!

I've encountered the same problem and just had a word with the the dedicated XPERIA line in the US. I purchased my phone from Carphone Warehouse in the UK.
What they said was that they would need to verify the purchase of the phone. Once that is done, I can send it in to the service center and have it repaired. Not too sure if they're going to do anything about it, but they said it could take up to 60 days (!!!!).
Anyone had any luck fixing this without sending it in?
Have brought my phone to the service centre twice, both times with regards to battery life issues, and had at the same time mentioned about the loose slider, but never had they done anything about it.
Is it normal for the battery cover to be "snapped in" perfectly on one side and on the other side it isn't as flush and sticks out. I just exchanged my first evo today because of screen issues and my brand new one's battery cover doesn't seem to fit perfectly. I also had this same exact issue with my first evo, so i'm assuming its a "normal defect"?
Doubt it if that's normal but mine also is the same way. When I first got it it was flush the when i had to remove the battery a couple of times it didn't go back onto it flush. The back bends pretty easy too.
Maybe you got a refurbish one the second time and they just said it was new.

Out of the 3 Evo's I've had. 1 had perfect battery cover, 1 had **** (whole side raised up), 1 had bad (one corner raised up).
I'm 100% surethat my evo is not a refurb...
it's a pretty common problem. there's a thread somewhere here whey they suggest using a folded post-it note to fix the problem. it helps the back keep it's shape.
mine actually got to the point that if it got too warm the back would warp and start popping off!

It's not normal. I don't know when they are going to start making smartphones with detachable battery (without cover) like the old Motorola cell phones, or the camcorders. You just need to pull a clip or something and that's it. No fragile covers that may break if you snap them in a hurry. The EVO one looks particularily thin.
The same for the memory, I think some phones have an external slot already.
So, I've had my DS from the 28th November and all went well for a few days. First thing I noticed was after a 5 min call, the plastic cover housing the ear phone would pop up on the opposite corner to the front camera... Was only 0.5mm to start, but then it ended up about 1mm today.
Second thing that failed, was the "E" in the dell logo on the back battery cover. This was the last straw. When running my finger over the "E" if felt like a sharp knife.... and then today, I slid it into my back pocket and the middle line in the "E" just snapped right off....
So.... thus ends my time with this unit. Took it back to Optus for a replacement. They said I will have a new unit in 10 days.
Bring on the next one. I've heard the early units had loads of these issues. Hopefully I get better one next time.

it had dust under the screen? As I was cleaning my screen today, I noticed two minuscule particles of dust under the screen. They are very close to the right and left edges of the screen, so Im assuming they somehow got through the small gap on those sides of the screen (if you look at the G2 on a flat plane, you notice a small gap between the screen and the side of the phone. The side is slightly more elevated than the screen at the center of the phone.). Im just worried about more dust getting under there, so should I exchange it under warranty. Other than that the phone has been flawless except for the typical "loose" hinge.
BTW the gap Im taking about is not a horizontal gap. Its a vertical gap, like the screen doesnt sit flush with the casing. Its noticeable on both sides, more towards the center of the device. If someone could verify with their phone it would be helpful.
Probably wouldn't bother me. I haven't had the issue of anything getting under my screen and I've had the phone since it was released. You can always have tmobile send you a replacement however there probably only going to send you a refurb G2. Some times it just pays to leave well enough alone but when its something that annoys you I can certianly understand.

I've accumulated quite a few dust particles under my screen. They're mostly collected in the bottom left corner but more are picking up on the right. Apparently this is a well known issue because of the gap between the screen and the housing.
I'm gonna line up a replacement for mine because its starting to get on my nerves. One of those things that once you know its there, all you do is look at it lol.
If I were you and its only two or so specs of dust, I wouldn't really wanna go through the hassle of an exchange until it got worse.
Decided Im not gonna exchange it over 2 small pieces of dust (the size of a thin pencil tip). Especially considering everything else is working fine and I will possibly get a refurb replacement.
I just went through a replacement nightmare all because of having dust under the screen.. Within the first couple weeks of me getting the phone, I started noticing a bunch of dust particles accumulating in the lower left corner of the screen. After a month, there was a noticeable line of dust, in a 1 inch x 1 inch square at the far bottom left. After the 2nd month, it was starting to be noticeable while the screen was on too, and was starting to make it tough to read that lower corner.
I went to a T-Mobile store, just to make sure that it would be covered under warranty. They said absolutely, and offered to swap it out in the store - I had a ton of data and text messages not backed up, so I said I'd be back once I backed everything up.
Well, I should have gone to the store again, instead I called customer service and processed it over the phone. They mailed me a replacement phone ASAP, actually got it the next day. I packed up the old phone, sent it back, and thought everything was done. 2 weeks later, I got a letter saying that it's not under warranty, that the phone had physical damage, and they had charged my account $295 for the new phone.. After a very frustrating hour on the phone with customer service, and going through the following: They wouldn't send me the old phone back, wouldn't let me talk to anyone who had access to look at the phone, wouldn't/couldn't even give me a description of what physical damage there was - they finally agreed to credit me back the $295.
Sorry for the long post, just getting all the info in there.
Short version - If you have a warranty issue, bring it to a store!
I had this problem with my first phone, Lots of dust under the bottom left corner. I called tmobile and they swapped it out with another phone no question. Its been over a month and I havent seen got anything saying the phone was not covered by the warranty. This phone seems much better than the first one so im being more careful with where I put it and how I handle it to minimize the chances of dust invading it.
Gap between the screen and the housing... Huh? Its sealed tight. No gap, no dust. Yours has obviously been bashed up.

I could tell you for a fact this phone is not bashed up, its been babied since I got it (couple days before Christmas). As soon as I got it a Otterbox case was placed on it. Phone sits in my jacket pocket. So how it would get bashed up is beyond me.

I cracked my screen pretty badly this weekend and am planning on ordering the replacement parts this week (debating the just glass or the new glass/LCD options). But I've noticed since then(last 2 days) the battery has drained pretty fast. Normally I get 2 days from a charge, today I pulled the phone off the cord at 8am and now at 3pm I got a pop-up saying <10%. The phone has only sat on the desk. No calls, no emails, no text, no web surfing.
Maybe the screen is getting mixed signals, being cracked and all.
Any ideas?

I am not really knowledgable about the exact interworkings of the HD2's internal hardware. But I do think it would be a pretty fair assumption that the cracked screen could be the cause of the sudden battery drain. You know your HD2 better than anybody else would as far as daily functionality of your HD2. So if it was not having a battery drain before you cracked the screen. And now you do after and this is the singular change in the state of the HD2 be it hardware wise or software wise. Then logic would say that is it.
Have you thought any about it might not just be the screen that is cracked. What about the internals. How hard did it hit, and how hard was the object the phone hit????
One last thing, be nice to your HD2, it is nice to you. ha ha ha....... But really take it easy on the hardware.
I trimmed the tape on it down to only covering the glass (finger protection mostly) and got it off the edges and out from around the back. This seemed to really help. I've noticed from the beginning of owning this phone that there are some sensitive spots on the sides that when pressure is applied the phone acts like a button was pressed etc. So I must have been causing this. Even with the screen off it was still reading a button push and having to process this action, using power.
I need to find a hard shell for the phone. The rubber thing that came with it is useless as it sticks in your pocket, I need smooth hard plastic I guess. The phone slipped out of my hand as I was getting out of the car and landed face down. Pure accident.

I too have notice the same thing about my HD2 that ertain areas around the edge are sensative, like you said almost like you were pressing abutton of some sort. I am glad you figured something out that helps stop the battery drain. I know that can be agrevating as hell.
If you have a T-Mobile HD2 like I do you could try the Body Glove. I have one on mine, it is a two piece hard plastic cover you HD2 slides up in. ig has a pull out kickstand on the back also, I really like it. It has help protect my HD2 several times when I accidently dropped it out of my hand. I do warn you though after having it on your HD2 for awhile it will make to little scuff marks of the clear coat on your battery cover. Also I have notice I have to make sure I have a ferm grip on it when I pick it up cause the plastic cover is a little slick not like when gou have the rubber case on it. I attached two photos of the cover, oh and you can buy it from T-mobile store or from the T-Mobile website. I suggest website it is cheaper there.
