it had dust under the screen? As I was cleaning my screen today, I noticed two minuscule particles of dust under the screen. They are very close to the right and left edges of the screen, so Im assuming they somehow got through the small gap on those sides of the screen (if you look at the G2 on a flat plane, you notice a small gap between the screen and the side of the phone. The side is slightly more elevated than the screen at the center of the phone.). Im just worried about more dust getting under there, so should I exchange it under warranty. Other than that the phone has been flawless except for the typical "loose" hinge.
BTW the gap Im taking about is not a horizontal gap. Its a vertical gap, like the screen doesnt sit flush with the casing. Its noticeable on both sides, more towards the center of the device. If someone could verify with their phone it would be helpful.
Probably wouldn't bother me. I haven't had the issue of anything getting under my screen and I've had the phone since it was released. You can always have tmobile send you a replacement however there probably only going to send you a refurb G2. Some times it just pays to leave well enough alone but when its something that annoys you I can certianly understand.

I've accumulated quite a few dust particles under my screen. They're mostly collected in the bottom left corner but more are picking up on the right. Apparently this is a well known issue because of the gap between the screen and the housing.
I'm gonna line up a replacement for mine because its starting to get on my nerves. One of those things that once you know its there, all you do is look at it lol.
If I were you and its only two or so specs of dust, I wouldn't really wanna go through the hassle of an exchange until it got worse.
Decided Im not gonna exchange it over 2 small pieces of dust (the size of a thin pencil tip). Especially considering everything else is working fine and I will possibly get a refurb replacement.
I just went through a replacement nightmare all because of having dust under the screen.. Within the first couple weeks of me getting the phone, I started noticing a bunch of dust particles accumulating in the lower left corner of the screen. After a month, there was a noticeable line of dust, in a 1 inch x 1 inch square at the far bottom left. After the 2nd month, it was starting to be noticeable while the screen was on too, and was starting to make it tough to read that lower corner.
I went to a T-Mobile store, just to make sure that it would be covered under warranty. They said absolutely, and offered to swap it out in the store - I had a ton of data and text messages not backed up, so I said I'd be back once I backed everything up.
Well, I should have gone to the store again, instead I called customer service and processed it over the phone. They mailed me a replacement phone ASAP, actually got it the next day. I packed up the old phone, sent it back, and thought everything was done. 2 weeks later, I got a letter saying that it's not under warranty, that the phone had physical damage, and they had charged my account $295 for the new phone.. After a very frustrating hour on the phone with customer service, and going through the following: They wouldn't send me the old phone back, wouldn't let me talk to anyone who had access to look at the phone, wouldn't/couldn't even give me a description of what physical damage there was - they finally agreed to credit me back the $295.
Sorry for the long post, just getting all the info in there.
Short version - If you have a warranty issue, bring it to a store!
I had this problem with my first phone, Lots of dust under the bottom left corner. I called tmobile and they swapped it out with another phone no question. Its been over a month and I havent seen got anything saying the phone was not covered by the warranty. This phone seems much better than the first one so im being more careful with where I put it and how I handle it to minimize the chances of dust invading it.
Gap between the screen and the housing... Huh? Its sealed tight. No gap, no dust. Yours has obviously been bashed up.

I could tell you for a fact this phone is not bashed up, its been babied since I got it (couple days before Christmas). As soon as I got it a Otterbox case was placed on it. Phone sits in my jacket pocket. So how it would get bashed up is beyond me.

I recently got a replacement Xperia from O2 after my old one had a severe backlight bleed, however, one thing stands out for this one with me.
The slider seems very loose, so loose that when you close an application by tapping 'X', the left side of the screen rises about half a millimeter.
Also, when the phone is opened, the screen is loose, e.g. shaking the device slightly causes the screen to 'Flap' in a sense.
I can't remember if my original had a loose slider, so fellow X1 owners....Is this common? Is it worth ringing O2 again?

well, i have my xperia for some 2 months and the screen is also very loose, when i open it i can see that the right metalplate that holds the screen moves about 1mm up and down, the left one is steady in place tho... when it's closed i can even insert my touchscreen pen in between the screen and keyboard... it's that loose... i figure it happens over time... i never let it fall down on the floor and i always use a hard leather bag on my belt to carry it. It's a bit annoying tho, the phone doesn't feel nearly as solid as when i bought it. But the thought of having to send the phone for repair and have to wait i don't know how long to have it back, is holding me from doing anything about it...
But maybe it happens with all or most phones...?
Well, according to the staff at the service centre here, the looseness is cos of the curved sliding mechanism. Asked if they could tighten it and they said if tightening it would cause the keyboard to get scratched.
lol that's such a lame excuse... it was tightened when it was brand new lol
Mine may be a little loose, but it has not gotten worse since I got it a few months ago. It is as I expected from a slider phone. It still feels tight and top quality.
It's difficult to discuss things like this without trying your phone and vice versa. I guess if you feel your phone is too floppy and not as tight as one can expect, you should definately talk to the service guys again.

Since I got my X1 at the end of Oct 2008 the slider has become loose compared to when it was new and I have compared it to other new X1's in stores. I found that the backplate of the slideout, at the exposed long side of the phone, between the two "tracks" has come loose from the actual top part and this is causing allowing the slider to move. In the new X1's i checked this parts was firmly attached to the top part and the slider was very nice and firm. I think SE may have a manufacturing problem here and I've turned mine in for repair. It will be interesting to see if they fix it or come back and say "abuse". I use it professionally and I have a original SE beltpouch for it.
Apart from this little problem I love the phone and it's functions!

I've encountered the same problem and just had a word with the the dedicated XPERIA line in the US. I purchased my phone from Carphone Warehouse in the UK.
What they said was that they would need to verify the purchase of the phone. Once that is done, I can send it in to the service center and have it repaired. Not too sure if they're going to do anything about it, but they said it could take up to 60 days (!!!!).
Anyone had any luck fixing this without sending it in?
Have brought my phone to the service centre twice, both times with regards to battery life issues, and had at the same time mentioned about the loose slider, but never had they done anything about it.
I an always overprotective of a new gadget, and the Evo I am getting tomorrow will be no exception. I was looking through a blog and I saw an image of the front glass being removed. They noted how easy it is to remove, and lauded this as a feature. When I see this, all I can think is about the horror I felt when I found a stream of dust particles between the LCD and the glass on my iPhone and my Sprint Hero (and yeah, every single other thing I ever get, somehow).
I was thinking about how much I hate this and I want to avoid it this time around. For those of you that use full body cases, have you ever had this problem? For that matter, has ANYONE ever had this problem? I wouldn't be that surprised if it turned out I am alone in my compulsiveness.

I highly doubt that anyone has had this prob. The reason why on the video it was like that is because he had already taken the screen of a million time before.
there is a tiny gap in the seam between the screen and the housing and i have already seen dust get in there
however i have not seen any dust under the glass (yet) and i have definitely been watching out for it. i'm hoping my silicone skin that covers the seam will help to prevent dust seepage (like it did with my hero, though my hero eventually got dusted regardless)
The n1 had this issue but i have not seen one post about evo with dust. My evo looks and feels like it was built 10x better then my n1.

Evos have had issues with the screen rising up due to improper adhesion.
Solution involves using a hairdryer on hot to gently heat the adhesive while pushing down on the screen.
I am uncertain whether what I stated is the correct method or not. I read it some time ago, and I cannot remember where.
Just noticed quite a bit of dust in the upper left corner of the lcd... Can't unsee it now. Seems there are a bunch of reports of this exact area being a problem.

So went to Sprint one day to ask if they could clean the dust that is in the top left corner (which has been done on my previous hero phone a lot) and i was told that they didn't have too because that is normal wear and tear. Like if your car was to get dust in it the dealership wouldn't be responsible. I just laughed in his face and said are you serious. I have all the protection plans and i demanded he go and clean it. Then he tells me that he has to take off my protection screen because he claimed that there was dust under that. Which i know how to put on a screen in dust free area and it was impossible for dust to get under it when the screen is on. This guy was an idiot. So he went in the back and came out moments later saying well we moved the dust off the screen but they couldn't remove it from the phone. I looked at the phone and the dust appeared to be gone. About 15 min later the dust was back. I am not sure was is going on but it is really wierd that all of you have the same dust in the upper left hand corner like mine. Anyone else go to sprint and ask about it? I am curious to here what they have told you. I am going to another sprint store to see what they say to me this time

It is because of the headphone jack. Its going to happen to all EVO's, just the nature dust and having a jack near the screen like that without being fully protected from the lcd screens.. Case's do help and I've heard of plugs coming out to plug into the jack to prevent dust and moisture getting inside.
All of a sudden silicone caps for ports don't sound so 1995 anymore. Im not sure its the headphone jack, to me it looks like its getting in around the earpiece/speaker. Not sure of that though.
My first handset had dust in the upper left corner.. one of the main reasons I asked for an exchange. My second handset has dust accumulating in the same spot but I'm trying to ignore it.. =\
The Evo I have now has dust in the bottom right corner. Noticeably a large piece about 2mm from the bottom. I got sent a replacement from sprint due to another issue, and right out of the plastic packaging i noticed a LARGE piece of dust right in the middle of the screen. Very annoying, and I sent it back. I cannot believe HTC would let this get through a quality inspection.

I've got a week old Desire Z and the only thing thats bothering me is a few bits of dust in various corners of the screen, tiny bits not too large, other than this the phones perfect. I'm contemplating returning the device, however I'm worried the next one maybe worse off, and eventually dust is going to get under the screen it being a HTC, my previous Nexus One had the problem so did 3 other friends and a Desire, all which use similar sealing mechanisms.
Do any of you chaps suffer from the same problem?

I haven't noticed any dust in mine -- but I did in one of my previous phones.
As long as its not a big flake of dust right in the middle, I wouldn't sweat it. Like you said, the next one could be worse (unless you can go into a store and they'll let you open boxes and look)
Mine came with what appears to be a very slight scratch bottom right, but when the phone's on you cant see it at all

I was hoping there is a way to get rid of it. Like turn the phone upside down and switch on vibration, or shake the phone. Any ideas?

Anything in there is probably sandwiched in pretty good. Some things to consider trying are giving the phone some hard taps on the edge, to try to dislodge the dust and move it to a non-visible area (this could also shatter your screen or dislodge some important component) or maybe try dissembling the phone till you can get to the edge of the screen and try some high-pressure air...

I got dust in the bottom left hand corner of my screen. I went to sleep with a clear screen and woke up with a good portion of the corner pretty well dusted, about the diameter of a dime.
I sent it in for a warranty replacement, and it hasn't happened again with the new one in 5 months.
I'm done with HTC phones for now. Two of my last high end HTC phones had either dust or stuck/bad pixels and while materials seemed high quality, build quality was really poor. That dust was not there when I bought it, it must have made it in there, this should never be allowed to happen.
I'm close to my 14 days return period at bb and suddenly I noticed that the glass screen on my Iconia is separating a bit noticeable enough for my fingers to feel it when I touch that section. It is the area at the docking connector side, the screen is raised a bit higher than the side metal bezel. When I pushed it down hard it flushed back in but raised again after some time. I never noticed it before and I've been really using it daily for more than a week now and only until yesterday I saw this. I feel really bad because I really love my Iconia and was really planning to keep it. I had the same issue with my HTC EVO, but I held on to it because I've read in the EVO forum that others have even worst screen separation and mine wasn't as bad. So I'm wondering if most Iconias have this issue so I don't need to return it anymore. I've checked the display unit at bb and it has same screen lifting around that section near the docking connector.

Same issue here. I noticed it the other day. I have a week left on my 14 day return period. Honestly it is not that big of a problem to me. I cannot push it back down, I just figured it was made that way. I noticed the demo unit at my local best buy was the same way. I do not think it is a deal breaker to me.

MMm - no trouble here yet. Then again I was a first generation nook owner who never had a button crack, and those were hard to find ;-)
I take mine to and from work every day and use it at least 2 hours a day not counting weekend software development time where it's my test platform, so you could call mine pretty high wear and tear.
So it seems like it is common to have that slight lift on the screen and hopefully will not get worst than it is. I will just keep it and not replace with another one, who knows the replacement might even be worst or have dust like the others were complaining. I've put too much time setting this up and I really love it even with all the criticism it gets from other users.
I feel a slight raise on mine - but far from calling it an issue.
There's some dust particles getting under there now...think Staples would accept a return for that? Still in my 14 days. It's annoying.
Staples told me they would take it back for any reason in 14 days... even if you just decided you didn't like it.

I believe it is designed that way, just as there is the gap between the glass and frame on the opposite side (where the microphone is placed in the center).
I for one find the A500 a great piece of hardware, and this doesn't bother me a bit... I actually hadn't noticed until you mentioned it here ;-)

Looks like an intentional raise to me though. The sides are flush and begin to raise about 1.5 inches in from the side of the tablet toward the center until it reaches it's highest point dead center to the dock port. Then back down by the same amount.
If it is not intentional it sure is a nicely implemented defect.
If I run my finger along the edge of the screen I can feel the glass being raised ever so slightly, fractions of a millimeter, towards the middle, above the dock connector.
Though as I look closer and use a metal ruler I find that it's not the glass that is raised but rather the bezel that is lowered slightly in the middle, above the connector.
All of them I have seen are like that, don't think its a defect at all.
It looks like it is easy for dust to get in past the microsd slot area as you can see the back of the screen through the cracks. I would be careful outside and in dusty areas. I am going to look for a sleeve that covers it or something...it should be sealed better than this.
I haven't had any dust yet, (hopefully never) and my screen is raised. (or the bezel is lowered)
I'm getting that too now. It's definately raised. I checked when the OP first posted this and it was not like this. Now I can press on the glass just above and slightly to the right of the dock connector and the screen goes down flatter. The raised area is not quite centered. I've had this tablet 3 days shy of 1 month.

Hi all,
Got my UK TF101 today and loving it.
However the finish is not that good. The small plastic strip between the glass and the bronze edge of the casing has remnants of the glue used during the assembly and it won't come off. Looks like it has been rush assembled and makes it look tatty. Would be a shame to return it just for that but when you spend this money and see what finish iPads have you really want it to be mint.
Does any one else have this problem on their TF101?
Unless they have changed the manufacturing process for newer devices, there's no glue anywhere near the casing/bezel.
I have some glue on the top of the black strip on the top-left (when holding the tablet in landscape mode). I only noticed it when I had my desk lamp shining on it. It wasn't present on the other TF I had at the moment. Doesn't really bother me that much.
Yeah, mine arrived today and has the same thing. The rubber's not quite flush with the screen and its mount, but it really doesn't matter.
Overall very impressed with the device so far. I certainly won't be sending it back over that small defect. We live in an imperfect world..!
Yup. But eventually after some use it wore off.
Mine just arrived today I can see some remnants of what appears to be glue both bottom & left side. Also it appears that the 1/2 section on the rubber on the right side has been rubbed down.
Quite agree it won't affect the use of the device but when you see how sharp a finish the iPad has it is a shame to not be perfect on the TF101.
I called Comet and they were happy to do a swap. When I popped in to the local store the Customer Service Desk chap admitted I was the third person with this problem. He got another one from stock and it was better but still a bit of dried glue. He offered an exchange or 10% refund. I decided to go with the 10% refund so got £43 back. I can now live with the problem.
If others want to see what we are on about here is a pic of my bezel. Right hand side is as I would expect but the top strip is very messy and slightly raised compared to the flush fitting section.

Thx for the pic, it's good to see what you were describing. I've looked really closely at my device and I still cant see any glue on mine. It looks like the manufacturing process has changed since they started production, not for the better in this case it seems. That certainly is a fair amount of money off though.
Had glue on mine too, I thought it had been refurbed and returned it for another unit. This one was checked in store and appears perfect.
