Below are the Top 4 issues I have read about in this forum and others. Please complete the poll and let us know how many of these issues you have personally experienced.
If you have had NONE of these issues, please select that poll option!
If you have had OTHER issues, please do not complete the poll. I'm mostly interested in the number of users impacted by the issues listed!
(1) Unresponsive touchscreen, and/or receiving false inputs (including from the keyboard)
(2) Phone not going to 3G or switching between 3G and EDGE
(3) Dust appearing under the screen
(4) GMail failing to sync regularly
#1 and #3 here.
#3 on a very small level, 2-3 TINY pieces of dust after a few days. I've since headed/pressed the corners of the screen to eliminate the clicking and it appears sealed.
#1 only 2x so far - each time resolved by simply hitting the power button and then unlocking.
If this forum poll was open to unregistered users im sure issue #2 with the 3g would be overwhelming.
Can I go back and change it to be open to all?
You cannot mod a poll, it would not be fair to the integrity of said poll and those votes already cast.
Right. Good to see a few folks with 0 issues thus far!
2 and 4 here
I just have #3 on my phone. Not sure whether I should be happy or annoyed.
I'm really torn as to whether I should purchase the phone now or wait for these issues to be resolved. I really want it, but I'd be so disappointed with a handset that has dust under the screen, a bad touchscreen, or more.

for what its worth, all the issues in this poll except #3 (and MAYBE #1) are software related and not hardware defects.
This poll is missing the "red hued center" camera issue, which might change things a little bit as well.
Personally, I got to test the Nexus One for 24 hours and loved it, and can't wait to get mine. I am waiting until I get my tax return, which is a couple weeks out, so hopefully they have a software update by then that answers the software or hardware questions, and they have the dust issue fully figured out.
I am willing to take the "risk", though, since all 3 test units we had were prefect, except for the camera deal, which seems to be very universal, not just this phone is effected, and so forth. Plus, I didn't even notice it using FXcamera, and had the other testers check it out with stock camera no flash before it showed up.
Back on track, it seems that those with problems are a small minority. People with issues tend to be much louder than those without, so it seems many more have issues than do not. Worst case scenario, you return the phone in your 14 day return period.

Good point Melterx. How is your issue with #3 coming along? I read that you ordered a replacement that was worse than the original. What's your plan of action?

I thought about including that one, but didn't realize how widespread it was until reading further this morning.
If I return within 14 days, don't I still pay the $90 restocking fee?
My screen goes ape **** sometimes.its really annoying.I was showing my phone off to an iPhone user an it happened arrrggghhh. Please fix Google.everything else is great
Screen issues - what is your part number?
From what I've read on the Nexux One support site forums, the screen problems may (or may not) be related to phones with part number (P/N):
99HKE002-00 F (NOTE the ending: -00 F)
I have problems with the screen mis-registering periodically and I have that part number (or at least ends in 00 F). There is at least one other part number on phones reported so far. My phone was shipped out within 24 hrs or the Nexus One announcement.
***** FOR THOSE WITH the screen problem ************
*
* What is the part number on your phone?
* (check under the battery, the text after P/N)
*
**********************************************
yes, I have the -00 F part number too and screen issues as well as 3G/EDGE toggle problems.
Sine my phone has the dust under the screen, and it's only getting worse, and my bootloader is unlocked, I'm just going to open the damn thing myself and clean/seal it up.

I thought this problem was due to me having my finger on the top of the screen and due to the lack of multi touch in most apps it thinking my finger was in the middle.
I have the same part number as you, what are google doing about it..
I also have the gmail problem which is kinda annoying!
i've noticed battery life has become a serious issue. before it was great, but its losing 20% on standby in my pocket over a 1 hour period
Yeah, the battery life is pretty extreme, the other day "cell standby" used 60% of my battery in a day. Today the screen on the lowest setting used 70%.
No problems with 3G as I am not on t-mobile! :3
Btw the t-mobile 3g switching problem is not unique to the nexus, it happens with quite a few phones!
I love my OG Evo, but recently it irks me. There's so many flaws with the phone, they should fix it. Both hardware and software. Hairline cracks near power and volume button. Screen grounding issues. Screen lifting. Stock messages FC. All of which my phone has. I never dropped it once. Why won't they fix these?
There are multiple hardware versions. Why didn't the newer ones contained fixes if they have been around since the initial release?
Please vote and let us know about your N7 and where did you buy it.
This pool could give us clue about the build quality and help people to make buying decision.
So, again, if you own or owned one, please vote.
Thanks.
Things I noticed about my Nexus 7 in the first night with it:
1) Right audio output is dead. 3 headphones pushed in all the way. This in the end is why I'm getting a replacement.
Other minor issues:
2) Touch seems flaky. A single touch-drag will glitch into two touches every now and then. I noticed this when browsing it will suddenly zoom instead of scroll. I also see it in Swype where it will drop in the middle of a long word, really annoying. There are other glitches that I can bring out with multi-touch in a test program but I don't think they are significant comapred to the ones I can actually notice causing problems while using it. All I know is that the touchscreen performance of my SGS is pretty much flawless (one of the reasons I bought it over the Desire) and the N7 unit I have now is far from it and it shows in some pretty annoying ways.
Is this systemic or a random defect? Hardware or software fix? Who knows, but from what I have heard and know these digitizers are discrete units that report touch locations and can't be fixed in software. Worth returning the device over? Maybe, but sadly I think it might mean bailing on the device completely as it could be unfixable.
3) Orientation sensor is off by about 4 and 6 degrees in X and Y directions. Sucks to play a game and have a tilt offset, and probably screws with auto-rotate a bit too. This seems like it could be calibrated out easily but this functionality, if it exists, is not readily apparent. Wonder if this is caused by UPS or whoever tossing the boxes around. My SGS was off about 4 degrees after a drop, but there was a command line calibration for it (also in the menu in 2.3, but I got lucky when they repaired the faulty internal SD it went away, probably on the same board as flash that was replaced).
4) Screen raised up on the left side. This is first thing I noticed because I looked for it first. I could probably live with it or try the washer fix if it weren't for the audio jack problem. It doesn't make any creaky noises or anything.
The screen as far as display looks quite good. Even blacks with no backlight bleed or dead pixels. My concern is that my replacement unit will have a worse problems with the display than this one, then I'll end up riding the replacement train for another pass like so many other folks. I might just ask a Google rep straight up if it would be better to wait a few months. I was prepared to do this for minor problems but the broken audio jack is pretty major.
Hi All,
I just received my nexus a few days ago and although I don't seem to have any of the problems that other users of this forum have mentioned (yellow ting, earpiece buzz when on call), I do have this other really minor issue. There seems to be a really minor "pop/buzz" coming from either the earpiece of the back speaker (its too soft can't tell which one) when press virtual buttons on the phone. It doesn't happen every time, only seldomly and can only be heard in a quiet room. I am quite happy with my nexus but I was just wondering if others are experiencing this as well. This is probably due to bad shielding of the wires and catches interferences with other electronics?

I think thats a common bug, I wouldnt be too worried about it. If you are feeling lucky you could try for an RMA but unless its super loud or is having some negative effect on your battery I would just leave it be.
I have the same issue

I have the same problem! I get that "pop" noise occasionally, even when my phone is muted.
It's like the sound a speaker makes when you disconnect it from its source.
I haven't paid much attention to this minor problem because it doesn't interfere with my usage of the phone, and everything else about the speaker works just fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
Same thing happens to me. But its not a problem really because it only happens once every 100 press.

I noticed when i talk on my phone and place the phone on my desk on its back, people say they can't hear me... Is there only one mic on the nexus 6p which is on the back ?
Getting the same whenever I hunch my shoulder up to balance the phone near my cheek

I think I had a similar issue with my Nexus 5. When the noise cancellation mic was blocked, people would have a hard time hearing me. My guess is now that the mic is on the back and not the top it is easier to block.
The Nexus 6P is supposed to have three microphones. I assume the main mic is in the bottom speaker. There is clearly a mic hole on the back just below the camera hump, so that may be what people are blocking. I'm not sure where the third mic is, perhaps in the top speaker.
It is a little odd that block one of the extra noise cancellation mics on the back of a phone would disrupt call quality (at least in a quiet place). This is a common design and you'd think the obvious use case of speakerphone with the phone sitting on a flat surface would be considered.
Perhaps, once one of the noise cancellation mics is blocked, the phone can't tell what's background noise and what's your voice, so it starts attenuating your voice as if it's background noise?
I'm assuming the 6P using Qualcomm's Fluence noise cancellation, which is what most phones with Qualcomm chipsets use these days. Fluence has always been kind of mediocre as far as noice cancellation goes. The Nexus 5 with Fluence tended to cut people's voice off a lot. I was hoping the extra third microphone would improve things, but it's also the algorithm that matters.
There's definitely better noise cancellation out there. The Audience chip (now called EarSmart) is probably the best. It was in the Nexus One, which had amazing noise cancellation (and also in the iPhone 4). But both Apple and Google dropped it. Samsung put it in a lot of the Galaxy S phones, but has dropped it now too. I assume they just don't want to pay for the licensing. Motorola uses four microphone noise cancellation and their own propriety algorithm, which is pretty good--that's what's in the Moto X 2014 and the Nexus 6, don't know about the new Moto X.
Anyway, you could experiment with covering the hole on the back and see if that's what's causing the problem.
I facing the same issue. Not sure hardware issue or software issue or some setting.
Having the same issue, need to have the microphone right up to my mouth for anyone to hear me. If I move it an inch away people sound it too low. Going to get onto google tonight about returning. Hopefully it's just a faulty microphone and not the phone design. I've tested in quite and noisy spots and same in both. Also checking not to cover any pin holes in phone that may be noise cancelling microphones.
I have the same issue with people reporting they cant hear me when the bottom mic is off angle from my mouth. I've done some testing by calling a desk phone on speaker and playing with the angle of the phone. From my testing and personal opinion it seems that the issue is likely due to over aggressive noise cancellation. Hopefully this is fixed in a software update or google gives us at least the ability to disable noise cancelation.
I am having the same issue, complaints that I am not able to be heard.
Any feedback yet on this?
Same issue here, a lot of people saying they cant hear me properly, if i then swivel the phone so the mic is in line with my mouth problem goes away. It seems very sensitive!!
Same here...
Anyone resolve this issue with a replacement device? It's quite annoying to have the phone glued to your face and if you move an inch the other party cant hear you clearly.

Same here....not sure if its a hardware issue or bad design? But if every phone is not like this then I have to send it back. Just need to determine what it is first.
Also when playing music my bottom speaker is not as loud as my top....I'm assuming that is a defect as well.
Same here with 2 devices. I've read that disabling noise cancelling fixes the issue, but this obviously requires root to do. I sure hope Google adds an option to disable this without having to root....or at least tones it down because it definitely does seem over-aggressive.
I also enabled advanced calling on both devices, and I'm not sure that didn't *help* at least a tiny bit...although I don't really have much to base that one other than neither of us getting any complaints for the past 24-48 hours....and if any of you are for sure using advanced calling and still getting complaints than I guess take this fwiw.
I remember this happening with my Nexus 5... The fix was to disable to the noise cancellation until Google came out with a patch.
I was talking to a nice Tech guy from Huawei on a completely separate issue, when I tried to hold my phone with the face while resting it on my shoulder. The guy told me that he started hearing me all muffled up. When I told him what I was doing. He told me that there is a third Mic that is in the back of the phone, which when covered, causes low or muffled noise to the other user. Seems, like disabling noise cancelling is the only option to fix this, because I do want to put my phone down and use speakerphone., especially during long conference calls.. Hope someone else can find a solution that does not require root.
There is a huge post on the official nexus forums about this issue with an actual official (kinda) response here.
It's very obvious at this point that this is a software issue related to noise canceling.
Just commenting to say that I'm experiencing the same thing as everyone else here. Thought it was just because the phone was so big, but looks like its definitely a software issue related to noise canceling
I have same issue got a replacement thought it fixed it, but realized today I still have the same issue. I am losing my patience with this phone and the replacement device has a pink hue on the top of my screen.
It's not a bug, it's already been explained that it's because if you cover the noise cancellation mic on the back near the top you'll muffle yourself. Personally I don;t know how you could possible hold this phone in a manner that would block it but... I'm used to seeing a lot of nonsensical issues from smartphone forum posters these days.
I've had the phone resting face up on the table on speakerphone and the person the other end can't hear me properly
