My HD2 Vibration Not Working Any More... - HD2 General

Today I noticed that my HD2 vibrates strangely, it sounds like a shaving machine when vibrating
I performed many soft resets, hard reset, then I flashed an offcial ROM, SPL, etc. but nothing works. I guess the problem is related with the vibration hardware.
I will be sending my phone to HTC service tomorrow, and let you know about the results.
Anybody faced the problem? Or any suggestion before sending the device to service?

I remember (2months ago) that my vibrate works strangely, i hard reset and it works again perfectly!

There was some issue posted a few times where the camera flash was pressed in, and was interfering with the vibration somehow.

I think I have the same problem, my camera flash seems to be pressed in (one side of it).
Is there an easy solution or should I hand it to the service?

Vibration seems to be a big problem. I had the same issue. only solution: warranty repair. my phone was replaced by 02.

Can't seem to find them... anyway, the flash housing is nearly directly over the vibration motor thing, and if the plastic flash cover gets loose it could very well push the flash housing down (it's not very secure, pretty soft metal actually) and block the motor.
Just check if the plastic flash cover is pushed in from the rest of the body.
E: If it is, then get it repaired by warranty, as it's not worth opening it up to fix yourself and voiding your warranty.

This is exactly what happened to my phone. The lower part of the plastic flash cover looks pushed in (I checked with another working HD2).
And yes, I handed the phone to the service today. I hope they do not break other things when trying to fix this issue

Hi,
My Leo stopped vibrating. I saw your posts and checked the camera flash. It was indeed pushed in. My warranty was not valid, so I tried to fix it myself. It was actually very easy. I followed a video showing how to disassemble the Leo . As soon as the housing is removed, we have access to the flash plastic cover. I've just snapped it in very carefully et voilá: the phone is back to its own self!
Many thanks for the tip. I would never have guessed it was related to the flash cover!!

My phone is still not back from the service

I have my phone back...
Finally, I have my phone back. The service report tells me that they have changed a part responsible for vibration. I checked the vibration functionality and actually it is working fine now. One surprise however is that the flash cover still appears to be pushed in.

Same problem
My TMobileUS HD2 is having the exact same problem - no vibration at all, even after hard reset. I also see the camera light's assembly is no longer correctly positioned in the body as it should be. It seems that the lower end is pulling into the body of the phone.
I treat my phone very gently, so I'm sure this didn't happen from rough treatment. Given that it's happening on a number of contiinents, this looks like a design defect.
TMobile demanded that I send it in for warranty service.

No Vibration Either
I have a TMOUS HD2, and I may have been the cause of this happening after reading this. I have no clue what you're talking about, but I have dropped the phone a few times and though the problem didn't happen right after a drop, it was just odd how it started. I had it set to vibrate when I pressed any keys, and then I was texting and it stopped. So... the only thing that I've seen that is a case that I only seem to have, my phone vibrates AT WILL, but when it does, it's very raspy and sounds very 'sick' and loud. So, I am not about to open my phone. I'm tech savvy enough, but in no way have I ever tinkered with hardware. I got my HD2 back in May, so I'm hoping that I have a warenty through HTC at least. I haven't contacted anyone about this, so is it my best bet to just send it to HTC or contact T-Mobile? And I have insurance, but I purchased my phone from Walmart. lol. Help?

my vibrate function has been broken for several months and I've been delaying sending in for repair because I'm afraid of how long it will take (plus, it is the Australian version so I dont know if HTC North American will actually repair it under the current warranty)
I noticed that the bottom part of my flash does in fact seem to be pushed in. I'm considering doing what Maria did (opening it herself and popping the flash back into place). Does anyone have a sense of how long the repair takes from HTC?

VIBRATION and FLASH PROBLEM
i'm having the same problem... lower part of the flash is pushed in. and vibration sometimes functioning sometimes not... but worst my FLASH NOT WORKING AT ALL...

Same problem here, vibration was not working, but I just fix it!
I bought this T-Mobile HTC HD2 off eBay, and turns out that the vibration was not working!!
Once I found out this thread and the information about how the flash cover was blocking the vibration motor from functioning, I was able to confirm this was exactly what was happening!
So, I decided to open up the phone. I did not had to extract the entire screen piece out, I just had to unscrew the four screws and use a "shower suction thingy" on the screen to help pull it out but just the top part (in other words, half way out), because I only needed access to where the flash cover was, and then I was able to use a thin screw driver to PUSH back the flash cover to it right position. Then, after putting everything back to its place, the vibrator motor started to work!!!
Maybe I will put some "super glue" on the flash plastic cover to secure from being accidentally being push in in the future. Anyways, thank you everyone here on the forum for sharing your ideas!

As a late follow-up to mine... I called HTC and got an RMA number. Put off mailing it in for 3 weeks while I backed it up and arranged a temporary phone.
Mailed it on a Friday. Had it back with a replaced back on Monday.
I was EXTREMELY happy with the customer service on this one!

Missed 3 calls today... realize phone is not vibrating. Check different things that should make phone vibrate... nothing...
Flash lens is not pushed in this time... I'm about a month out of warranty now. Wonder how this is going to go over

I had this exact problem occur a few days ago, and I opened it up and simply snapped the light cover back into place carefully. But my phone still wasn't vibrating, so I opened it up again and I saw that the black rubber around the vibrate motor was causing the part that creates the vibration to get stuck. I simply just snipped a bit away so that the it was free and ta da! However the vibration is still weak compared to before so I don't know how to fix that? hope this helps you, and if someone knows why the vibration might be weaker than before the problem started any help would be great. thanks

Crazy Tytn screen and button problem, please help

Hi all, this is my first post on this forum but I've been reading for a while to educate myself.
I've got a Herm200 that I've been trying to troubleshoot but to no avail. I'm fairly certain that it has a hardware problem but I haven't been able to isolate anything.
Here's whats happening:
Occasionally the screen will come out of stand-by all white. This will also happen randomly if i touch the screen to perform a command. While the screen is operating, sometimes the buttons on the face will stop working, however the buttons across both sides will continue working just fine.
When the screen turns all white a soft, hard, or stand-by cycle will not always bring it back to life. The fact that the hard reset wont always fix the problem makes me think it's a hardware issue since the phone will boot-up with the the all-white screen.
This is incredibly frustrating especially since HTC wont accept any warranty claims in the USA on the Tytn.
At first I thought this might be a problem with the ribon connection between the screen and the base but i haven't been able to confirm or discount anything at this point. I have yet to find a way to consistently reproduce or rectify the problem so it's very hard to troubleshoot.
I pretty much have to take a second phone with me everywhere right now just incase i need to make a call. Please help! Has anyone ever encountered such a problem?

Hi. This sounds very similar to a problem that I experienced with a HERMES100. I bought the phone off someone on Ebay recently - someone had obviously scrambled the radio on it. I re-flashed it, and it sprang to life. However, after a couple of days, I experienced a problem where occasionally the LCD would stop refreshing, all the pixels faded away leaving only a white screen. Under these circumstances, some of the buttons on the phone stopped working. Turning phone on/off sometimes cured the problem, or it would require the occasional hard reset. This would happen once or twice a day and I suspect thats why someone tried to re-flash the phone.
In the end, out of curiosity I took the entire phone apart, put it all back together again and now there are no more problems!! Totally fixed!
My suspicion is that it was one of the ribbon cable push connectors on the mainboard - possibly not seated properly, or a bit of dirt contaminating the connection. Obviously when I took the phone apart I must have re-seated it.
If you are planning to take your phone apart, please exercise considerable care because some of the parts are very small and easily damaged. I would recommend buying a proper kit to take it apart. I bought mine for about £5 off ebay. Particularly useful are the plastic spoon "wedges" used to gently prise open the case after removing the screens. Don't use a screwdriver - you will scratch the case.

I have had the exact same problem. Because I got the Tytn through work I made our IT department handle the issue and I am currently waiting for a replacement and to find out what happened.

I'm beginning to think it's a hardware problem as well but not entirely sure.
People in the above thread mentioned that using the scroll wheel a while then moving back to use the D pad fixed the problem (very briefly in my case.) Once I use the center D pad button again it locks the hardware buttons under the screen until I make my device sleep and resume.
Somtimes rather than making all the front hardware buttons unresponsive the issue is that once I use the Down Dpad button I can't use the up button. Pressing up will make it go down, as will pressing down (at least that's working ).
Regarding the white screen - this sometimes also occurs. I can force it to white screen by putting a little pressure on the silver panel surrounding the top, right and bottom of the screen (I have an imate jasjam). Randomly when there's no pressure on the rim and I wake it out of standby, it has a white screen that can only be fixed by turning the screen off and on again.
Finally, the LED indicator seems screwy. Sometimes it never flashes. Other times it flashes sporadically (uneven intervals - we're talking maybe a minute between one flash then seconds before another). When I charge it sometimes the LED doesn't come on but nevertheless it charges. Sometimes if the LED is on it never turns green to indicate a full charge. Yet other times it comes on orange, turns green, then never switches off!
Is it possible that
a) The hardware button problems.
b) The white screen problem.
c) The LED problem.
are all related to some kind of connection going loose? Why would the hardware button problem be temporarily fixable with use of the scroll wheel if this were the case?
The other thread has fallen silent. I'm hoping that some of the gurus in here can offer some input here, even if they don't know the answer but can formulate an opinion. I know very little about these devices.

I had a similar problem with my HERM100. I didn't mess around with it too much, I just had Cingular replace it out of warranty exchange (thank god those original ROMs are on the wiki ). I did notice however that after doing a master reset, the screen would function again although I haven't messed around with it too much. I got so frustrated with removing the battery for 5 minutes and STILL powering on with a white screen that I just threw it in my back seat until the new one arrived.
I don't have these screen issues. I only have hardware button problems. It's so damn frustrating! I already own a replacement.
I just received a call from my girlfriend. I wasn't able to answer the phone with the buttons, only with a screentap. I also wasn't able to close the call with the hardware button. Since the side buttons work, I went to settings -> phone, closed it, and there we go. The hardware buttons worked again.
Why the heck is this? I truly hope for some wizz out there with some advice, since HTC would only tell me to send it back after replacing it with a new TyTN with same issues.

This is my first post as I've so far managed to cure all my issues from just reading the forum. However, I am now having a similar problem with the white screen.
I have a cingular 8525. It fell and the following day the call and end buttons remained lit and wouldn't turn off and they also wouldn't work.
I soft reset, nothing, I then removed the battery and when I turned it back on, there was a white screen and the buttons below still don't work.
I have read the other posts on this issue, but I need help on exactly what kit to buy to reconnect the screen cable and instructions on how to do it as I've never taken apart a phone before, although I have dabbled with other electronic devices.
Your help would be much appreciated, as I am in Jamaica and there are no technicians here who I trust to help.

Both kits look ok. PDA one tells you a little more but the basics appear to be in both.
I'm curious though you soft reset and took the battery out, but have you done a HARD reset? I would always try this first before dismantling.

In my case, they also are always lit up when the screen is also active.
And no matter what ROM version, they occasionally stop responding. Side buttons keep working.

I couldn't do a hard reset because the buttons weren't working.
I have made some progress with the phone now. Found a tech guy who looked at it for me. The white screen is gone, but the buttons still stop working from time to time.
All the connections seem ok.
Is there anything else that could cause the buttons to malfunction?

Nothing obvious.
Have you got applications installed that you have loaded - could be one thats playing up.
Have you now been able to do a hard reset?
If taking device apart and reassembling improved things it does suggest hardware though and might be worth double checking all those multi-connector blocks for good connections - i.e. take them out and in a few times to ensure any oxidation on contacts is removed.

If it wouldn't be a software issue, why is it, in my case, instantly resolved when going to settings -> phone with the side buttons?
i had this problem i took it to a guy who fixed the problem he said it was a very small tear in the flex cable which causes this white screen every now ant then and the buton problem , sorry to say its the cable problem and u need a very capable person to fix it or replace it with a new one . its very common problem baised on the guy who fixed it .

Exactly what is happening to me, no white screen issues, just screen taps and answering calls, I also have another problem where the PDA will not allow me to open anything, be it the start menu or contacts, it will open and quickly close again. I have had mine swapped through Telstra in Sydney, it worked fine for a while and then the same crap again. These problems started before I even touched the OS, so it must be a build problem. Maybe we should write a joint letter to HTC letting them know that there is a serious problem with their machine.
I have had the same problem, got my Tytn through work so we sent it back to the company that supplied it to us. Got it back yesterday and they had replaced the "switchboard". Not sure what it is but there was the problem. Had white screen and buttons not working.

Defective Unit? Pls advise

My TyTn is acting strangely. In use, the display is first pixelating, getting lines (noise pixels as well), and then fading to completely white. When so it doesn't responde to anything anymore. So a soft reset is needed.....
Also the ringtone when called, is 'out of tune', like a old record player when you push your finger on the record.. LOL
Before I send it back to have it fixed by HTC, do you guys have any idea whats wrong, and maybe even a tip to help me fix this myself?
Tried numerous soft resets, hard reset, and a reinstall of the original WM6 rom (in Dutch).
Did not install any new programs lately, or did change anything on the unit...
Don't want to miss my TyTn... so hate to send it away... as many of you I am hooked badly to my beloved digital companion

It acts like hardware incompatible.
How about flashing with WM6 English version.
I don't think it is software problem.
I agree, not likely to be software. It did not get dropped or take a knock did it?
The two issues of pixelation/white screen may, if you are lucky, just be a connector thats loose. The sound I think is unrelated but again sounds like a poor connection at the white rear speaker connector block - not uncommon.
Both of the above could be caused by a sharp knock. There have also been cases of poor battery connections causing problems.
If you have a warranty use it. If not you can follow the dismantling guides or service manual to dismantle - check connections and re-assemble. Be prepared though, that sending it in might still be required!!

I am not aware that I bumped it, or neither it has dropped. May be a connection that was allready quite loose to begin with. Lets see what HTC and the store will tell me
Strange thing is, that without my sim in it, and not using it, it stays normal... Have put it aside, and used a very old phone instead, and it is still normal..

Mmmm... that's important information and changes things a bit. Could be a sim card contact or something about the sim. Anyway it tends to suggest that other thoughts about hardware issues may not be correct!

Something rattling inside...

Hi everyone,
Tonight my Dopod D810 developed a 'rattle'.
When it rings and vibrates or even when I shake the phone lightly, I can hear something small rattling around inside like perhaps a small piece of plastic.
Taking the battery cover off and battery out did not help, it seems to be behind that and near the top of the phone around the lens/speaker area....
Any ideas on what I should do? Although I may have to, I'm reluctant to take it to a '3' store here in Melbourne, knowing that they will probably send it away for maintenance and I'll have to do without a phone for weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated

I don't know about '3' but I think many phone stores can lend you a spare phone during the maintenance period.
Of course, that phone may not be as fancy as your trinity, but I think in this situation, any working phone would do.
there really isnt much that can come loose there. there is a small posidrive screw thats sunk into a plastic channel that could rattle if it came loose, and the vibrator motor is there as well so i guess it could have worked its way loose. depending how confident you are you could take the back off and have a look, just have to deal with that pesky warranty void sticker (and lay your hands on a set of small torx drivers)

Also, around the same time, the camera buttons has become difficult to push. It still has the tactile response of being pushed but it now does nothing.
I cannot launch the camera by pressing this button, nor can I take any photos now! Due to the hardware key not working, there is no soft-key method to take photos
Agree that you should take it back to the store as you don't want to loose your warranty.

had the same prob. Opened my p3600 and had to refit one srew which had loosened itself. It even got stuck in the vibrating engine.
i did void my warranty though...

Hey BlackBeauty how did you get on with this? Mine has developed the same rattle noise. It started after the phone vibrated from a call coming in.

I sent my Trinity back to HTC to get fixed. I still have 9 months on the warranty and didn't want to void it. Must have been a loose screw as that was HTC's response. Sent it away on Monday and got it back today (Friday) good as new!

G1 Keyboard acting weird

Hey All.
All of a sudden my phone just started acting really weird as if i had mapped 2 of the buttons to keyboard sequences.
The "Del" button types JHGL and does volume down then back up.
Also the "Back" button types e542i3 then vibrates
Anyone have any ideas of what's going on or how to fix it?
I had JF's RC33 rooted then did a full wipe and moved to the Magic 5.02H it appeared to go away for a little bit but is back now. even after I restart the phone it happens again.
Atleast now I have an onscreen keyboard to go around the problem, it's just really annoying and I hope it's not a hardware issue.

I am having the same exact problem.. Where is this water damage sticker I keep hearing about?
I am due in court and cannot talk to the people I need to talk to about it right now and I am getting extremely frustrated.. This has to be something to do with super user right? Something got activated and is recognizing different commands or some BS from these keys?
I know neither f you mentioned water damage but thats what mine was doing after it got dumped in water.
any possibility that your phone was exposed to any major moisture?
unfortunately I wasn't able to resolve it and had to go for a replacement.
It could have very well been water damage as on a few occasions i picked up my phone while in the shower to answer a call or reply to a text. I never heard of a water damage sticker myself though.

edit: Ok i did a little research on the water damage sticker and on the G1 it's under the battery on the side walls. When I called the T-mo rep i was asked what color the sticker was. It was white but I guess it turns re/pink when exposed to water.

This just started happening to me, I was rooted, but I went back all the way to RC29 then updated to the current OTA build and it's still doing it.
has anyone tried typing in the RC33 build? does it do the same?
moreover, what if whatever is holding up the key sensors are week. it seems to be the spacebar @ key left alt and period that have the most problems...

[Q] [ help ] external speaker not working

received my dell venue pro late may 2011
i'm currently stationed in the Philippines so I had my unlocked Dell Venue Pro 16g shipped to me by a friend.
it is now June 12 and i've had the phone for less than a month. yesterday the external speaker stopped working out of no where. it was working fine earlier.
the internal speaker works fine. i can make phone calls hear perfectly. i can also insert a headset and all the application sounds work fine such as Zune
my problem is the external speaker. regardless of what volume it is on [ 0 - 30 ] there is no sound coming out
OS VERSION : 7.0.7392.0
My problem is I am stationed in the Philippines and Dell has the worst Customer Service. the last time I had a problem using my credit card JUST to order the phone and I spent over $100 USD just on international calls.
I can't imagine what it's going to cost me to talk to another customer service rep or even safely ship this back to dell and receive a new phone.
If anyone can help me with a solution. please. please do so.
I had a similar problem before I received my replacement. Try removing the battery cover and pressing down on the back in the large area above the speakers. If it's a short (like mine was), pressing down might restore the connection to the speakers and give you sound. Load up the Zune hub and try playing a song to test it.
i also had a problem like this. i restored the conection by pressing down hard just below and on the space bar on the keyboard.
ok. this is weird but the two methods actually worked. i tried both. the sound came back.
what in the world caused this problem in the first place?

I have this problem too, I dropped the phone in its otterbox case at a significant height. I did what you guys said and I heard a clicking sound when I pressed the the area below the space bar. Sound was restored, but I noticed when I took off the otterbox case the phone loses sound unless I press hard.
The sound disappears when there is no pressure on the back of the phone, so when the battery cover is removed this problem is most noticeable. Now I would send this in for warranty, but I am in Canada and I had the phone shipped to a relative in Seattle, I doubt Dell will let me warraty this in Canada.
To save my self the long drive and hassle with dealing with Dell I would rather find a better solution. Im guessing the area where the speaker connects is loose. Is it possible if the screws came loose in that back area? Would loosening them and tightening them work. Or is something else wrong? Is there perhaps a tear down instruction manual for this phone? Can I fix it myself? Otherwise I have to leave the phone in its case for its whole life and I'd rather not do that...

Anyhow, just wanted to mention that mine came loose just from plugging in and out the USB charger. The car charger has a springy cable and might be the culprit as I tag on it.
Which version did you get? Pcs or aws. Pldt uses pcs, right? My company has an office in manila and we were thinking about sending a few dvp out there.

I was having the same problem and tried the solution mentioned (pressing down hard) and it also restored the sound! I think this is a sign of a poor build quality.
I too was having the same issue. I had been without sound for the last week and only today, without doing anything in particular, the sound came back. I am not sure for how long though! I was going to hard reset the phone this weekend to see if it was the Mango update that caused the problem (it only happened after the update). I guess I will wait it out and see.
My DVP has the similar problem after 10 days. Actually it is not completely soundless. But the volume is too low to hear 10cm away from my ear. It may not be hardware failure. The problem is I lost my backup point at 7392 and I am in China. Any one can help me to restore to 7392?

Sounds my DVP is dead. Getting it back to Dell may be the only solution. I am thinking of buying a second-hand palm pre while the DVP away from me.

a less physical solution is simply blow air into the microUSB port. keep doing it and the speaker will come back. if you have compressed air, a brief shot would do.

Had a similar problem. If you tear down the DVP as if you are replacing the screen
Once you get the two halves separated, remove the keyboard. Below the keyboard is the "speaker" it has two small progs if memory serves if you take a small screwdriver and pry them up and reassemble all will work well .
The "pressing" solution (if it works) effectively bends the back of the cover and forces the contact.
I will try to post a teardown of the DVP with screen replacement (ALL THE WAY.. current video on Youtube stops before you have to replace the screen itself.. as it assumes you have the more complete part (with is no longer available, only the glass is now)

You might not want to pry up the speaker pins too hard though as they're spring loaded but has a small clip stopper that restrains the pin from over bending the wrong way. If you get it pass the clip, you have to make sure to put the pin back into the loop clip. It'll be more clear when you have it in front of you.
I usually just clean the contacts (pins and board side) with a screw driver/sandpaper and it'll be all good.
And a teardown will always be awesome cdgoin :good: Peeps might want to seal the LCD to the glass part with a little glue gun glue too to avoid dust getting into the screen. I find sealing the top ear piece part does the trick (bottom part helps too).
This is a strange solution but works!

Thank you. After being without sound for months and wondering if I messed up the OS or needed a hardware fix ($$$) - this worked.
