Hi everyone,
I'm new here and this looks like a good place to learn about all things WinMo
Unfortunately, i think i may have donw something to my HD2 and now it wont let me on the internet. It says at the top its connected via 3g or whatever's the strongest connection. But whenever i try to launch anything requiring the internet it comes up saying its unable to connect and to try again.
I've had the phone 3 months and its been fine. THe only changes i've made from standard is adding cookies home tab (which im sure didnt do anything) the only other thing i did around the time of it stopping working is using tree size mobile i selected "Load Default Settings" could this have done it??
I've also just noticed it wont let me call people, it just does 3 beeps and hangs up even in strong signal.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Mark
Have you paid you're bill lol
anyway settings>connections>then take a look in connections see if all you're settings are still there if not go back a page and hit up connection set-up and it should put you're settings back in have a soft reset and try again call wise not sure, could be a problem with the phone that requires a hard reset(back to when you first got the device)
I'll enquire bout the bill, shouldnt be though, cos when you get cut off it doesnt let you connect to 3g, and when you call its just says connection to this number is restricted on this phone...which it isnt doing, its just not calling at all.
Been into settings and everything is on and i've done the reconfiguration to Vodafone and its still the same.

I'm experimenting with push mail on my Cingular 8525. I'm not in an HSDPA area. I'm connected with either GPRS or EDGE (I haven't changed the registry to show me which).
I find that I can be connected for hours at a time: the "G" icon will appear in the signal strength area, and clicking on it will indicate the number of minutes/hours connected. The connection timer will still be ticking away happily but if I try to access a web page the prompt will indicate "Locating" until it eventually times out. Even though the phone says I'm connected the connection isn't in fact useable. What I end up having to do is Disconnect from the network and then I let a page request from PIE initiate a reconnection.
Obviously, for push email this is no good. I need a connection that stays up. I even have my push email client set to poll for new messages every thirty minutes, but because the phone says the connection is up, those poll requests will just time out when the connection is actually not up.
What is the deal with this? It would be 10000 times better if the connection just dropped properly if it is supposed to (timing out, network congestion, or whatever). Because then the push email client's poll schedule could at least re-initiate the connection every thirty minutes.
I have been considering trying GPRS Keep Alive (which pings up to 5 hosts to keep a connection alive) but I'm wondering why this happens in the first place? Why doesn't the connection just drop instead of hanging there?
I have been having the same issue with a Treo 750 and with my newly acquired 8525. The connection manager says I'm connected by I don't getting any mail pushed to the device. This has been going on for the last two weeks. The only way I can find to correct it is by a soft reset.
Soft reset? That's pretty extreme. I just have to disconnect and reconnect.
Why is that extreme?
Actually it's quite easy. Since I use push Active Sync automatically initiates a new connection at start up.
I think it's extreme because you shouldn't have to do that. All you should have to do is disconnect and reconnect. Of course, none of this should be happening in the first place.
So I installed GPRS Keep Alive last night. I guess that was a waste of $5 since this morning I see it didn't help. In fact, now I think I'm going to have to soft reset (!) as disconnecting/reconnecting doesn't seem to make a difference.
Since you're having problems on a Treo as well I would guess it must be a Windows thing. Are you on Cingular too?
Yep. I'm with Cingular.
I believe it's a Cingular issue.
I had a Treo 700wx with Sprint before these and never had the issue.
I installed HTweakC this morning and turned on GPRS Auto Attach and "Set Connection AlwaysOn." The first option attempts to connect to GPRS as soon as you turn the phone on. The second is supposed to (I think) stop GPRS from disconnecting.
Still I eventually lose the connection. So a $500 PPC device just can't do what a $200 BlackBerry can??
I'm surprised that no one else has posted to this thread. Maintaining a data connection is one of the most-basic requirements for a wireless device. Yet the Hermes/TyTn/8525/Dopod (whatever you want to call it) can't do this. And I guess, then, the same goes for the Treo?
I suppose this is why, in the end, a much less flexible platform like the overpriced iPhone will quickly succeed: you can be sure that Apple will make 1000% sure the phone can be used with wireless data...since that is the whole point. You know, just to remind the people up in Redmond.
Hi
Just to let you know that I am on Tmobile in the UK and I have the same issues. The data connection under WM5 was a bit more reliable but is hopeless under WM6. It caused me to downgrade from 6 back to the HTC test rom (WM5) just to get push mail working at all, but its not very reliable.
I agree that this is the most fundamental aspect of these WM devices and until it works reliably, everything else is a bit pointless.
I just hope that soeone can get to grips and solve this in the XDA live rom as I really like the new apps, but frankly I would give all that up for a reliable push and acticesync solution.
Rob
Hrmmm. So I guess this means that anyone with Good or BlackBerry push email service on these things (or any WM5/WM6 device) must experience the same problem.
I wonder if this app would help you?

it's not out yet, but the developer is asking for beta testers.
Maybe if the connection is actually terminated rather than going off because it times out, the next connection will be good. Worth a try anyway I would think.

Has anyone tested this app?
Why is slick not working for my titan, it worked well for a day, but now i get an error messeger saying there is no network but i have an unlimited data plan? Palringo works fine but i want slick back, any ideas on why this might be happening, I have WM 6.1 rom updated to 3.56, my coworker has the same phone and rom but his slick works and i put it on his phone, i dont understand the problem, please help
If you recently soft reset your phone you have to manually connect to the data stream...Slick will not auto connect
How would i do that?
understand
If I understand you right, it's not connecting to the network.
If you open Slick, then go to: Menu -> Configuration -> Access Point...
Change it to: The Internet
It should then connect first to your data provider, then to your chat program.
Hopefully that's what you were referring to. Obviously make sure to setup your settings (ie, login/pw) for each account first.
I have to set my Access Point to "Sprint" for it to auto connect, FYI.
All this is set up just fine, it just keeps giving me a Connection Error messege, i looked at my cooworkers and the setting are the same, but his works and i gave him the same updates, i dont get it
Bump it, i just took the update cab within my coworkers slick folder switched from automatic to sprint and works fine now, thanx
when ever i try to log in it always says error auth failed. is there anyway to fix that. i need a good IM but i dont witch one i want to use cuz the aim betea is alil slow, and i even overclock my phone. so if u can help me can u message me thanks
After beating myself to death, I finally managed to install Titan-WM6.5-21139-59-CR3 .
I really like the look and love the Weather, the windshield wiper is cute.
All seems well, But I can't connect to WiFi I keep getting unavailable...
And I have never connected to the internet before and just upped my data plan, but can't connect. IS this part of my upgrade ? do I need to set anything up ? called Verizon.. they put in ticket and will call me back ....
I didn't change radio.. I can make and receive calls and text ok...
I have installed no other programs...
Thanks
ReD
Is your ROM carrier specific? Sounds like you need a Verizon carrier cab to setup data connection.
Who built the rom? Some cooks change the carrier settings in their roms so that they do not have to worry about changing them later for lack of a data plan.
Try going to start-setting-connections-advanced-select networks
Pull vzw from the drop down box and select edit. Make sure the data network box is selected and also make sure that the number is "#777". Some cooks change the number to #778 or something that is one number off so they can not accidently rack up data charges.
fixxed
Finally got it going... seems it was a bad password...
Now I guess I can start to figure it all out. as I said I have tried for days to get 6.5 going, I have never flashed phone before and had lots of stutters on the way.
Now just to decide what I want and how to get it.
I love weather ( I am outdoor writer / fisherman )
I saw an animated weather panel with radar etc...
Would love to get it on my 6800 and I really don't like Internet explorer..
Thanks for the help guys...

Hey
I know there are threads related to this issue where an Hero refuses to connect to a network (the bars has a x over the top) however i've discovered something strange with my hero.
With the correct data/apn settings the phone is connecting to the network and will allow me to browse the internet, post tweets etc etc, it actually allows me to do anything thats not phone related. I cannot make calls or sent text messages.
This phone was unlocked and working ok until one day it just stopped working with my network.
The hero is unlocked - I have tested it with Tmobile and Three and they both work. Any kind of o2 sim refuses to work....
Am i being a complete n00b and missing something here....?
Any help appreciated - I;ve spent weeks on this issue and almost ready to give up
Damon
Anyone having a similar issue to the above, I've found something that appears to help fix this.
Get AnyCut from the market place, create a shortcut to Phone info.
Launch phone info, turn off radio.
Now im not exactly sure why this works but change 'set preferred network type' to WCDMA Only and then renable the radio after a few moments, the singal returns.
Weird and very annoying.
Damonsk,
Can you point me to a solution for the other problem where the hero refuses to connect to a network (the bars has a x over the top). I have searched every term I can think of with no luck yet. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
I'm on Metro PCS with no problems until recently. Basically, my phone will not access the internet at home unless I use wifi. The 4G icon appears to be working but the page wont load. If I send a text I receive a message stating the text didnt go through but the person still receives the message.
Also, when I place a call at home it will not connect. The phone shows dialing but nothing happens. I've double checked the APN and did a factory reset but the problem is still there. All of these problems happened overnight.
However, once I get about a mile away from my home there are no issues. Its like the band/channel used in my area isnt being accessed.
Is there a way to reset the radio or make sure all available bands are used? Or is this an issue on Metro's side? I called them and they, supposedly did a full reset but that didnt work either.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
