when you say crashing, can you give a bit more info? is it locking on a cirtain screen? or in a constant reboot?
you may want to also read through a few of the stickys as if you use the search you most likley will find the cause.
RE: HELP!
More info would be appreciated but I've had issues before and did this:
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using buttons on the phone.
With your phone powered off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
While holding the volume buttons, press the END/POWER button briefly and then release it.
When you see a warning message on screen, release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
From that my phone turned on and I was able to create an activesync connection again to flash another ROM.

I flashed many roms and never experience like that as long as you do it as per instruction/ guide in the relevant ROM.
I would suggest you to go into bootloader screen (turn of you phone, then press vol up and down together with the power on button).
Install HSPL (only if you havent installed it), perform task 29, flash the radio (check the radio version required by the ROM), and flash the ROM you want.
Everytime the process reach 100%, you press the vol down button to go into bootloader screen so you dont need to pull out the battery or the cable (but for the last process (flashing the rom), you should press vol down and up together (it will go to hard reset). And for better result, please make sure your battery above 50% and use win xp.
Hope you can solve it.

Restored my blackstone this morning to a back up from the start of the month.
the phone came back on after the restart but displayed a "phone task could not be started" message bubble.
couple more restarts which resulted in a similiar result and now i'm in the position where i just get the smart mobility screen and nothing happens.
so the only real answer is to reset to factory settings and then restore my back up again.
question is how ? the phone is off at the moment - i've searched XDA and come up with holding the power button then pressing the volume controls up and down then letting go of the power button ?
is this correct ? doesn't seem to do much.
EDIT : done the hard reset now. sat on the windows mobile screen saying "preparing your device for use for the first time" now. can't remember how long this took first time round.
EDIT : Now i'm looking at the Red, green, blue and white bar screen. with the following text across the top
BLAC100 32M
SPL - 1.14.0000
MicroP-Blackstone (LED) V6. its sat at this screen for about a minute so far. what happens next ?>
hopefully i can get this back and not have to shell out for a new phone.
thanks in advance.

Correct procedure to restore factory settings or hard reset
1. Turn off device (Obviously yours is already off)
2. Hold down vol up & vol down and then turn on device (continue to hold down vol up & vol down)
3. Screen will go to bootloader temporaily then you'll be presented with a message blah blah blah etc
4. Press vol up to hard reset
Thanks for the info. heading back to the horrible world of default settings.
is now a good time to flash the firmware with dutty's ROM ?
Depends on which Duttys you want to get to:
If you want to go to V2.6 or earlier Hard SPL is fine
If you want to get to V2.8 you will need USPL
There is more steps required as it depends on what rom you have on phone as hard resetting will not return you to stock rom, it will return you to factory settings of rom you had flashed to previous
More info can be found on post#6 of Duttys thread
Just read your first post again. You said you restored your phone to a previous backup of a month ago
For this to work properly you would have needed the rom on your phone of which you backed up
i.e. if you had Duttys 2.1 on last month and backed it up, you would need Duttys v2.1 on again before doing a full restore. If it was only PIM info (contacts/emails etc it would be ok).
This may have been where your problem was. If you tried to do a full restore while running Duttys V2.6 or Laurentius rom or any other etc the restore would probably have affected your phone
Just to clarify. I haven't flashed my ROM since getting the phone in Nov. so it's back to the original ROM that it came with. my restore this morning was to to the original ROM as well. Obviously if i flash the original ROM with dutty's the backups i have got already will be no use at all.
hmmmmmmm.
might just try another back up restore and see if i can get back to where i was this morning.
thanks for your help mate.
cheers
matt.
let us know how you get on
well
after a lot of toing and froing, my sprite back up from earlier this month has restored the blackstone successfully. thanks very much mater for digging me out of a massive hole earlier. saved the day.
i think i'll leave it where it is for now. flashing the ROM further means i'll have to re-install all the 3rd party apps i've installed.
thanks again.
as long as you can get to the bootloader it is never bricked
Hi,
For the last month I noticed that Left softkey (Phone softkey) is freezing.. Now this is becoming more often. The only solution I found is when it freezes to press windows start button at the top left corner and then the phone is working normaly again. At the moment I press left softkey and it freezes, I see that background for that button drops in (the animation works). Then, to un-freeze it, I press verry gently with stylus windows start button.. The rom upgrade didnt work, so I dont know if this is hardware or software bug ???
Any idea ??

It sounds like a firmware issue, especially since you had attempted to upgrade the ROM version and failed to do so. Have you tried performing a hard reset? This will restore the phone back to default factory settings and should resolve this problem.
I would strongly advise you to first backup your data (Contacts, Emails, SMS, etc) using PIMBackup.
To perform a hard reset, please try the following:
(1) With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
(2) Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
(3) Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset.
Regards.
p.s. if you would like some detailed information on how to unlock your phone to upgrade to another ROM version, such as a custom ROM, then please carefully read the following guide.

Hi again,
Thanks for your replay. I succeded with ROM upgrade. The problem appeared while I was using previous ROM version (some clean WWE) and then I flashed to custom ROM few days ago thinking that I had a lot of programes instaled on previos ROM and if I install a clean ROM problem will dissapear.. Now I see I was wrong.. I dont realy get it.
I was following the guide from your post while I was upgrading the ROM I have now. And when I did, I did hard reset..
Good thing is that I found the temporary solution how to unbug it (by pressing start button) otherwise I would be verry pissed of as I dont have warranty
Did enyone experienced same problem ?

I desperately need an alternative way to hard reset my hd2. Holding the up down button and shortly pressing the on/off button just switches the phone on. No reset. btw I cant start up normally so the software approach doesn't wort either.

Use the reset button on back whilst holding up/down buttons
a few people have commented on the difficulty of getting both up and down pressed correctly.
I find I get a much better press with the battery cover off, and I press one first, then the second.that way you can feel them connect individually.
Why don't you guys use the build in software to hard re-set the devise.
1] Press Star Icon
2] Press Setting Icon
3] Press System Icon
4] Press Clear Storage Icon
That should start a hard re-set on device and re-store everything back to original configuration.

why don't you read the opening first again?
the dude can't use the software approach because his windows won't start, remember?
what about using task 29 or the reflash original splash screen while its doing its thing you can use both hands to hold the vol buttons, other than anything else suggested i dont thinj there us another way to hard reset other than reinstalling your rom maybe fix the software wipe storage app.
That works!

I have the same exact problem. None of these methods are working for me. Is there anthing else I can do?
Same for me. Locked out of the phone completely. When it boots it only gets as far as the O2 start up screen and doesn't get any further. Hard and soft reset do nothing. Have tried all suggested here already.
When I get to the screen where I'm prompted to press Volume up to restore, it goes straight to 'restore completed' in a fraction of a second, then back to the start up screen when I press Volume up again.
Need help as I now have an HTC paperweight and no phone!

Been using magldr? Cos hard resetting with magldr installed just affects magldr, hence a very short reset time that does nothing.

No, I don't even know what that is. I'm not very technical and all I had installed was Cookie's Home Tab Editor.
I have the same problem.
My HTC is blocked ( the WM "forgot" the password that I set - a common problem ), so I have to do a Hard Reset that doesn't start.
I can't reflash or do anything else ( as told here ) without instaling HSPL first. As this can only be installed by the Active Sync, and Active Sync doesn't connect to blocked phones, I can't do anything else...
Is there a way to do anything else with only a new ROM in the sd card ? Or I REALLY have to install HSPL first ?
Thanks,
Leo

It is possible to be stitched from a SD-card without reinsertion HSPL. It is desirable to stitch official ROM
It is desirable SD-card to format a feather an insertion.
Just loaded another keyboard cab and suddenly on soft reset/reboot the phone has frozen at the HTC logo and the screen showing the RGD info... won't reboot easily and takes many attempts to get back to this screen.. but will go no further.
So to do a search, what keywords should I be using or does anyone recognise this and have an answer.. have tried reset, battery out but nothing is working, the screen is just locked the screen mention above.
Using Laurentius26 GoldEdition V2.1 rom and was loading Touch-Keypad.Cab..
It is not connecting to the pc, so I can't reflash it at this time..
if you're phone wont boot since you installed this then looks like a hard reset is on the way mate sorry, you could try boot without mem card but doubt that will make a difference
Could you quickly remind me of the sequence for hard reset, red reset button doesn't seem to do a lot and I do have everything backed up so its not a problem... cheers.
press and hold both volume buttons and tap the power button. Keeping holding both volume buttons until it asks you if you want to factory reset the device. When it does tap volume up and it will then go off and do it's thing.
if the crash was the first time you had soft reset since youi installed the cooked rom, (even if you had been using it a while) it could be a mismatched radio. (Sometimes the rom/radio mismatch doesnt show till the first restart.)
Look at the R on the boot screen, if it has .51. in the version, then flash a new radio.
Thanks for all the help.. have managed to recover, restart and reflash, then reload, so we are all sweet now.. cheers..
Hey Guys. I was hoping someone could help me with my problem.
Currently my HTC HD2 is running cyanogenmod7 using MAGLDR 1.13.
I want to switch back to winmo 6.5 to start fresh and have read tutorials that i need to enter bootloader ( the red, white, green screen thingy) to establish a connection with activesync. But the problem is that i can't actually get into bootloader and i have tried volume down button with the power button combo and it doesn't seem to work.
If someone knows how to get to bootloader then please help.
While the phone is off... do what you did... hold power and volume down buttons...
Yes, i tried that 20 times and it doesn't work

Does the volume down button work on your HD2? Sounds like it does not.
That's the strange part. My volume buttons work perfectly in Android and Magldr. I don't know what's happening
switch off the phone and open it again while you are holding the end call button
you will go the magladr menu , i thik you can find something there to take to the bootloader

No no no no no and NO!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is nothing in MAGLDR that can make your HD2 go into bootloader. The only this.g that can get you into the bootloader besides the external hardware buttons is the bootloader.exe that can be run from inside Windows Mobile. It can only be run from inside Windows Mobile. MAGLDR is a custom bootloader that runs after the HSPL bootloader and has no way of communicating with the HSPL bootloader.
At the OP, you may have a faulty volume button ribbon that is causing you not to be able to boot into the bootloader. Check out this thread you will see what I mean. Read post #10
Boot loader mode
Bootloader mode is handy for checking the HD2's version of Hard SPL as well as the installed ROM and Radio versions, and also for ROM or Radio flashing to the HD2. I sometimes use the Bootloader method to flash ROMs as it saves connecting to Activesync/WMDC because the PC recognises the HD2 as connected via USB. It is also useful for flashing a ROM or Radio version if the battery charge is less than 50%, as it ignores the 50% charge warning that is normally displayed when flashing if the HD2 is low on charge. Never use this method if you have less than a 30% charge as you will be in deep trouble if the HD2 runs out of power while flashing a ROM or Radio version!
To place the HD2 into Bootloader mode, remove the HD2's back cover hold down the volume down key, now press in the red reset button under the back cover to the bottom left of the SIM, release the soft reset button but continue to hold the volume down key in until you are presented with the tri colour bootloader screen. To exit Soft Reset the device.

Can you get into the windows start- settings - system? If yes, there is an app that says "clear storage memory", which brings you back to the factory settings when you bought it. It's worth a try.
Entering bootloader screen is sometimes difficult: press and hold the volume down button and then press shortly
the power button, this should bring you to this screen. If it does not, remove your battery for at least 10 minutes and try again.
Good luck and regards, Kuzibri
I had the same problem ...
I could not enter the bootmanager in android brief button press to end a call, we moved the menu to shut down, reset, etc, the same menu that appears when you hold down the button longer to stop calling ...
This defect appeared to me after I lay HD2 due to large changes in ambient temperature ...
After a few days of research, opening, drying I removed the defect, so I pulled out and cleaned the keys below the screen (Home, Menu, Back, red and green) and wipe the foil that these pressures are the same buttons ...
My HD2 has been working for 2 weeks with no errors
same here but ...
to get in to bootloader i just discovered a different (strange)way ... from winmo , with back cover off press red reset button and imediately while reseting press volume down ... this is my only way to get in to ... otherwise , all the keys are fully working when in windows mobile .
very strange
all the keys includind the volume down key, works well inside windows, but I just cant go to bootloader.
I will dismante the phone, wash it and dry it, to see if something changes,
I have problem getting into 3 color bootloader also, but its because my voulme down is broken/ doesn't work anymore. Any other ways besides the volume down button?

only if you are currently running winmo 6.5, , theres a winmo app to restart into bootloader.
alternatively, dismantle the phone and short the voldown connections.

Hi, I had a similar problem where I could not enter the boot loader. The solution I found that worked for me was provided by: broncogr on another thread discussing a similar issue with the DHD ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889567 )
"restart the phone
when the capacitive buttons light is off immediately press and hold volume - button and keep holding until device is in bootloader
cheers " - broncogr
Hope this helps someone.
