Magenta Does It Again .. For Vegas Anyways. - G1 General

Hey all. I know this is the DEV section, and maybe someone can make use of this information. I just returned home from my daily errands, stopping by good ol' t-mobile. and to my surprise, as im asking and answering more questions than the "android expert" in the store, i was presented with the MYTOUCH Slide to take a look at.
BAD A$$ PHONE. The dude wasnt being the most generous with the info. And wouldent even let me touch it, regaurdless, i did ask him to go to the About Screen. And low, and behold, 2.1 Sense. 1ghz Snap i believe. And Yes folks. HSPA IS HERE. well whatever it is called.
SO IF YOU LIVE IN VEGAS. YOU HAVE THAT NEW 3.5G . OHHHH YEAA.
Hit me up for more details.

Yes, this was the specified cpu used for the mytouch slide in specifications. I don't know where he got 1ghz from :S
Other then that the information given isn't anything new, we already knew from the port that it would be 2.1 espresso.

What t-mobile store did you go to?

I don't know why he got the idea that HSDPA is a big deal/new either. I get it (HSDPA) from time to time (usually UMTS tho) in my town of 30k, and yeah, it's faster. Thanks to that standard, the throughput/bandwidth can be increased quite a bit, so when Sprint's on 5G, those with G1s from 2008 will be able to keep up with the loudmouths on the CDMA side as long as T-Mo expands up to the max, which is like 16mbps or something, if I remember correctly the Wiki I read on it eons ago

Interesting.....how did you come up with 1ghz by looking at the about phone screen?

Would it be possible to get a forum for the two new verizon phones, the Droid and the Droid Eris? I know the Eris is essentially a modified cdma hero, but it is also much different.
Thanks
You might want to search the forum before posting questions. A. the Moto Droid is not an HTC device and because of this XDA will not support it. B. This question(s) have been asked before in various forums.

check this site out if people don't believe the a8 is not a TI design
they only rate it at 500mhz because it's voltage is at 1.2 volts but at 1.25 volts you get 550. look it up the beagleboards wiki it will tell all about the a8
We are talking about who built the phone not who built the processor. If my computer has a W.D. HDD then is it really called a W.D. laptop, or Intel laptop, or Nvidia laptop? We are talking about who puts together all the pieces to make the finished hardware. Usually who'm ever puts the finishing U.I. on is the one who brands the phone.
naah wasn't doing that someone posted some false info on who made the a8 550 mhz processor. i figure i'd kill that myth too. did you also know that of you overclock the a8 to 600 mhz it will only run at 430 mhz max processing power.

His neocore score is 24.7 fps on the EVO. I find that troubling because my Hero pulls that off when running at 767 Mhz.

Actually, all the reports I've read say it has 1 GB internal storage so I guess he could be correct. I'm more worried about the fps score on neocore. The storage problem is fixed with an sdcard upgrade.
I'm thinking once the ROM is torn apart and optimized, it will pull much higher scores.
Try Neocore on the completly stock Hero ROM, see how THAT compares.
Look at it this way, Overclocking the Hero, running a zipaligned/deodexed blah blah blah with JIT, I pull about 30FPS in Neocore. Now imagine running like that on the EVO.

WTF is everyone's deal saying **** about the Evo?
It's not even out yet. The software probably isn't fully up to date, thus the reason for the infamous "lag". Not to mention, the Evo is expected to come with Android 2.2, which is said to give Android phones 5x the performance increase in all areas of the phone over the current Android 2.1:: SOURCE
It's not hard to imagine that once the Devs around here get a hold of the software/hardware of the Evo and make modifications; you'll see amazing things being done with the Evo. It might even be able to create a black hole...
Just wait till June 4th, then we'll see its real performance.

Can't provide one, yet. I'll ask my brother though (He works Sprint). However; my comment was: "The Evo is expected to come with Android 2.2" meaning; that it might not and that I'm speculating. This is because Flash 10.1 (the real, finalized version -- which is rumored to be debuting at the Google IO this week) will be running on Android 2.2. It's only logical to think if Flash 10.1 is going to be offered as a feature on the Evo; then Android 2.2 would come with preinstalled on the Evo, as 2.1 does not have the full version -- currently only the lite version (if I remember correctly). We'll see though. I'd love to have 2.2 over 2.1 -- but I'm sure this is only a matter of grabbing any new phone that does have 2.2 and modifying it to work with our phones when/if it is released.

I'm thinking that since they already spent this long getting 2.1 on it (Read: hacking WiMAX support into 2.1) it will ship with 2.1, and may see 2.2 ~6months after release.

I think I might give up my nexi, I've been dying for a keyboard phone comparable to the nexus one. This may be it.

This is one of those cases where MHz won't matter one bit. The chip has a whole bunch of new features not found on the N1, including many hardware multimedia accelerators. Plus, you really won't notice much of a different with just a 200MHz drop.
With a faster radio, more memory and better hardware acceleration, the CPU speed becomes less important.
I'll upgrade if it offers speedy HD video, HDMI out and more memory as those are the things I'm missing on my N1.
The phone will have the scorpion chip set which equivalent too the snapdragon, but with a better cpu and wvga screen
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
It's going to be hard for me to give my Nexus up as well. I'm still trying to weigh my options on whether I should just go ahead and get the G2 or keep my N1. If the screen size is not 4.3" I will be keeping my Nexus until a 4.3" T-Mobile Android deice come out.

Honestly, im waitng for the next Dev phone, personally the mod community on the Nexus One is far superior to anything it could be on any other phone. So i'll wait, im not a slide out keyboard guy anyway. Google tends to release a new "dev" phone for each major release:
G1 - 1.0 &1.5
MT3G - 1.6 (i think)

Nexus One -2.1 & 2.2

any overclocking guides for the fascinate?

I'm not new to overclocking, but I AM new to Android, so when it comes to overclocking an Android phone, I'm as useless as the next guy.
I noticed people got the i9000 version as well as the Captivate version to overclock to 1.2Ghz, but I can't find anything on the Fascinate. One member mentioned in another thread they overclocked, but I don't see how.
So how do we overclock the Fascinate? If there's a guide out there, it should be a sticky here!
Need overclocked kernels to achieve that, and we don't have any as of yet.
Gotta wait for custom kernels to start rolling out, which will be soon
Man you guys are sick.
The phone is at 1Ghz right now. Almost Twice the speed the original Motorola Droid. And you want to overclock already.
What kind of things are you doing with your phone that need that kind of speed. ..

[Q] Android 3.0 on G2

I been reading and i see all the rumors of it being released mid Oct and that it requires a 1GHZ cpu do you think the G2 will get the bump? (but we all know cm7 will be a for sure update) and yes i know the reqiurements are just rumors.
I doesn't need a 1ghz cpu.
You're wrong. The requirements are not just rumors but are confirmed to be wrong.
I just wonder how someone with 200+ posts still hasn't found the search function of this site.

first off... we HAVE a 1GHZ capable scorpion processor (its just UNDERclocked at 800MHZ to save battery) and the fastest android phone available so yes, of f*cking course the G2 QUALIFIES for gingerbread (sorry I freaking hate that stupid rumor. it's nothing personal... it's just been asked around 10 million times). second... that is debatable whether 3.0 will be pushed to the G2 since tmobile has been screwing all their android phone customers with their lack off new OS version otas after 1.6 so.... who nows for sure. it seems like they didn't release 2.2 for the MTS so some of the owners would upgrade to the G2. and guess what? it worked... we will get a couple fix otas (one is being pushed out as we speak) but know one knows for sure what they will do. if can root the darn thing (hopefully the ota being sent will help in the efforts), we can just port it from the desire z or something similar if tmobile drops the ball on gingerbread. I wouldn't count on it... just my opinion

Can't find anything more canonical than that, sorry.
Guys its very simple. Lets consider the below statement (current situation):
A Desire with 1Ghz snapdragon that scores lower in benchmarks and slower than a 800mhz Desire Z.
If based on that "rumour spec", which do you think deserves Gingerbread more? The 'spec achieving' but slower 1Ghz Desire or the 'below spec' but faster 800mhz Desire Z?
PROCESSOR NUMBER IS NOT AN INDICATION OF ACTUAL PERFORMANCE drill that into your head and stop thinking that the Desire Z will not get Gingerbread.

PROCESSOR NUMBER IS NOT AN INDICATION OF ACTUAL PERFORMANCE drill that into your head and stop thinking that the Desire Z will not get Gingerbread.

You're wrong. The requirements are not just rumors but are confirmed to be wrong.
I just wonder how someone with 200+ posts still hasn't found the search function of this site.

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I searched but what I typed didn't nothing come up and I figured if the Nexus One would get it we would also, and I always felt that our cpu was underclock based on the scores, and yes im aware the processor numbers doesnt account for performance. I havent did much following on Gingerbread so yeah thought id ask my peers..and thanks for clearing that up.

oh ok thanks i searched by android 3.0 but the info from the link is good i didnt come across that with my late night googling same ones was popping up from june.
you know XDA has this feature where when you decide on a title for a thread it actually searches for you and you have to scroll down past the results to post the rest of your new thread. i don't mean to be rude, had a trying day and thought for a second that XDA would make me happier(wow i'm f*cking stupid for that).
we need to remove the add new topic from the tapatalk app as it makes search harder and new thread easier. these rumors have been debunked, and notice that the G2 out peforms EVERY other phone out there even with the "slower" CPU, the underclock is a software lock so we could get it kicked up a notch when 3.0 is released(which from recent rumors 3.0 is actually honeycomb). if you don't think the phone will get updates then please return your phone and get a nexus.
sino8r thank you for posting that these were rumors but it seems these rumors will never go away

Thank you. That's better than what most people cite (their ass).
