Samsung Moment gets 2.1 official???

I just read as I googled "Sprint 2.1 update" I get all kinds of, Sprint releases Moment update 2.1, I thought we were getting the "official bits" first?
Why is it I always pick the phone that takes forever to get anything done on, lol...

and on topic, the moment will probably get the update i think first, its plain android and its much easier to port android 2.1 1:1 like that.

Im aware this is the HTC Hero thread, and I dont care about the moment, other than that fact that it seemed, and Im correcting myself I did not see anything that was officially stating that it was official, I was mearly stating that everything I saw, was saying that Hero would get the bits first, then moment,.

All I can say is that it's about damn time. I've been loving 2.1 on my hero for the last couple weeks while my wife's moment has been crying itself to sleep. Looks like they've already rooted it over at SDX, so I'm gonna probably flash that whenever I get home from work.
Of course, what would be *really* nice is if Sprint put out something official for a change.

This is crazy...
Just for you narrow-minded people...
Just because it is not "officially" released on your schedule, doesn't mean anything negative to a company...
Just look at Verizon and the Storm 1.. People kept hounding and hounding Verizon for updates for the phone, but when the update wasn't what they expected, go crazy that they should have done better QA...
It is Sprint's responsibility to make sure all issues are addressed and taken care of... Do you have any idea how many thousands of issues are brought in the testing phase???
Do you know how hard it would be to guarantee a million phones for retail, from a single demo(test) device??
Have a just a tiny bit of understanding and stop complaining....

Narrow minded? Is that would you consider Microsoft? They release software that has no business being in the market place, only to patch it every tuesday when admins like me all over the world find bugs and exploits, and errors and problems. Just release the damn thing, and do incrementals as needed. Take the M$ route and get us what we want!

I would take that with a grain of salt, if I had a dime for every article I saw that had a date in it, I'd have enough money to buy Google and get 2.1
It'll be out whenever Sprint is ready. It doesn't help that they are dragging their feet, most likely for their proprietary apps. I'm not holding my breath.

Hero vs. other phones re: speed

Hi all,
First post, but I've been lurking for a bit.
Anyway, I just got my Hero with Sprint about a week ago and am running DamageControl's current ROM. It's a killer phone, but from what I understand the Droid has more processing power. I've got another 3 weeks to give back everything and get free Droids with Verizon.
I know this is a Hero forum, but I wondered if anybody knew of a "benchmarking" resource for all Android phones.....

as we all know, the hero was obsolete was 6 months before it came out. youll go broke trying to keep up. save up your months with sprint and get the evo when it comes out, you wont regret it ;-)

i like the hero and am willing to stick with it until the evo, and as for whatever comes out after that...i dont know. (android, htc, ect) will eventually release their own iPad, im sure, but i guess its a matter of what YOU want. i got a great plan with sprint (54$ for unlmtd everything) with great coverage (detroit it a major city, its bound to be set up good for the 3G user) and a highly customizable phone to say the least (ill admit i was disappointed when i got the hero, learned of the nexus and all the new upncumins) and am excited to move onto the evo, and can wait patiently.

I was able to see the evo up and running the other day.... WOW. Slim and sleek and very fast... took about a 1/3 or less of the time it took the Hero to open stuff. It was running on 2.1 as well and look really similar to Damages 2.1v5 ROM. This handset is going to really help out Sprint. Only thing the one I saw lacking was they hadn't activated the 4g on it yet.

Yeah, after studying competing prices, I don't know that I could stomach what everybody else is charging. I just don't get how anybody is competing with Sprint at this point!
I'm paying $129 -%15 for two lines, 1500 minutes, web, txt, and mobile-to-mobile. ANYBODY else charges $40-80 a month more!
I guess it's good for us they're so desperate for customers
PS I'm curious as to the price of the EVO. Any guesses?

At least until the next android update (Froyo) is out. I believe Froyo is supposed to support 4G natively

haha, yeah it does. they had it on another phone of theirs in the past (winmo). I wonder what video formats will be supported natively. I hope they add .avi support.

I saw this tweet earlier today.....how gay. The EVO and every other phone being shipped out get the upgrade except us. I'm getting really sick of these companies just ditching the stuff that's already out there when it's not really even an outdated phone. This was tweeted from Sprint

Some of us can't afford to keep getting a new phone every 6 months sir. I just got the Hero a few months ago and I'm not spending 500 for a ****in phone. I can do alot more with 500 then buy yet another phone. Bottom line, there's no reason to abandon the Hero yet. If they bothered giving it 2.2 it'd run a ****load better. Yes, I realized I was in the wrong section afterwards but this one is bookmarked, my fault.

Now I cant stop laughing.

Just a few months ago, before we knew the Evo was coming out, many of you were not bashing your phone. Now, all of a sudden alot of threads on here peopleare bashing the Hero. You bought the phone. You had 30 days to return it, yet you chose to keep it. If you hate the Hero, shut the F**K up and get you a damn EVO or something else and move over to their forum. I'm sure you will find something wrong with it also.
Yes, my Hero might not be getting 2.2, but the Devs are working on it and have most of it completed. I'll have it on my phone regardless. The problem with our phone is HTC does not want to make Sense work with 2.2 on our phone as it will probably slow it down. You can blame HTC and not Sprint.

I never bashed my Hero. I love my Hero. I just want an Evo. Nothing wrong with that.

After a chat with a Sprint rep. I was told there was no news regarding 2.2. I asked about the tweet and was told that the info regarding 2.2 not being available for the Hero or Moment was wrong and to "ignore this information."

Im gonna say no. Its the 6th of oct. now and I believe sept.28th is when the Kies update hit and Tmobile said do not update, Information about a update will be posted in a week or Upcoming week I dont remember. Well, a week has gone and past and nothing.
I will say I bet, that by the end of this week, lets say Saturday night, there will still be no word on a update.. I for one am rooted and flashed Eugenes Twiz final so I dont need a 2.1 gps fix or what not, I want froyo. Even then though I doubt there will be any word on any update this week.

Edit: Please dont respond with, why does every *****, blah blah be patient a update is soon. SOON IS NOT 1/4 of a DAMN year, Every other SGS has had a update, hell Captivate has a leaked FROYO rom. How long will people keep saying, keep waiting, we will have it soon.

i hope that they give us the froyo, especially now that phones that are built in with froyo are out in the stores and of course the galaxy tab too. i don't care if it's not this month or it will be by the end of the year, i just hope that they give it to us.

You know why they don't say anything definitive? Because if something goes wrong at the last minute and the deadline slips, they'll catch even more flak.
We can't make this go any faster. Nothing you say or do is going to make Froyo come out faster. Just go out and take a walk or something. Life will not end in the interval between now and Froyo.

They did give us a time frame on a update announcement..if they dont come through with even that they will catch flak..

From HEROC to EVO SHIFT

This has been a great experience for me and my HEROC. Thanks to all the DEVS that supported this phone to the end.
I have recently upgraded my HEROC to a EVO SHIFT. Hopefully, I will see some of you over the Evo Shift Forums and we could all start over.
Looking forward to rooting, roming, and to the development of this new phone. I'll check back once in a while to see what kind of progreess the Heroc is getting.

I also came from a hero. This phone, imho, was a great upgrade. The physical keyboard is a super bonus to what the phone can do. It is way faster than the hero and can perform just as well as the Evo. Of course that is debatable. For me, I do like the smaller screen compare to the evo/epic. The camera is decent for a 5mp with flash. Being a second gen snapdragon, can't wait for the new development to start.

edit: Nevermind I see your using an Epic. Maybe one of these days you can make some themes etc. for the Shift. I like the green/white cirlce battery mod you made me for the Hero.

Does the Optimus S even have its own forum on here yet? If so I can't seem to find it. I know there's a couple for it located on Android Central and Android Forums. Here on xda, I do see a little bit of Optimus S stuff in the 'Optimus One P500' forum -- is that it for now? Thanks, Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. No doubt there, Sense seems fine on this phone compared to my Hero. I came from the Hero, and upgraded my wife's Moment to the Shift also. My wife said something funny about that last night, "They called it the Moment because it only works for a moment." EPIC!! lol

I'm enjoying it, came from a Heroc. Sense is really ruining the experience for me though, even with ADW it just isn't as good as stock or CM6/7. I'm,hoping it gets root soon or its back to the hero.

Feb 7th? As far as I know there aren't any new phones in production other than the blackberry and the HTC Windows phone.

I doubt anything being released in the next couple months will be announced there but they might announce a dual core I hope...lol
