Hi all,
First post, but I've been lurking for a bit.
Anyway, I just got my Hero with Sprint about a week ago and am running DamageControl's current ROM. It's a killer phone, but from what I understand the Droid has more processing power. I've got another 3 weeks to give back everything and get free Droids with Verizon.
I know this is a Hero forum, but I wondered if anybody knew of a "benchmarking" resource for all Android phones.....

as we all know, the hero was obsolete was 6 months before it came out. youll go broke trying to keep up. save up your months with sprint and get the evo when it comes out, you wont regret it ;-)

i like the hero and am willing to stick with it until the evo, and as for whatever comes out after that...i dont know. (android, htc, ect) will eventually release their own iPad, im sure, but i guess its a matter of what YOU want. i got a great plan with sprint (54$ for unlmtd everything) with great coverage (detroit it a major city, its bound to be set up good for the 3G user) and a highly customizable phone to say the least (ill admit i was disappointed when i got the hero, learned of the nexus and all the new upncumins) and am excited to move onto the evo, and can wait patiently.

I was able to see the evo up and running the other day.... WOW. Slim and sleek and very fast... took about a 1/3 or less of the time it took the Hero to open stuff. It was running on 2.1 as well and look really similar to Damages 2.1v5 ROM. This handset is going to really help out Sprint. Only thing the one I saw lacking was they hadn't activated the 4g on it yet.

Yeah, after studying competing prices, I don't know that I could stomach what everybody else is charging. I just don't get how anybody is competing with Sprint at this point!
I'm paying $129 -%15 for two lines, 1500 minutes, web, txt, and mobile-to-mobile. ANYBODY else charges $40-80 a month more!
I guess it's good for us they're so desperate for customers
PS I'm curious as to the price of the EVO. Any guesses?

At least until the next android update (Froyo) is out. I believe Froyo is supposed to support 4G natively
haha, yeah it does. they had it on another phone of theirs in the past (winmo). I wonder what video formats will be supported natively. I hope they add .avi support.

id love to see a full working port of android for the tp2, id hop on that super quick. the design and screen resolution is awesome. other than that id say if you want fast wait for the n1 or evo.

well i had my pixi for 3 weeks and every day i missed android on the vogue. so i exchanged my phone and bought a real hero. i have to say this is by far the BEST phone ive ever owned. fast, stable and super customizable. im just in here thanking all of you for introducing me to android. keep up the good work devs. i will tell you guys this, android runs 10X better on a real android phone, i recommend your next upgrade be a hero or other android based device.

don't know if it'll come to sprint this year or not, I suppose there is a hope if it goes to big red.
I'll probably pick up a hero with a bad esn in the summer after more android phones come out for sprint and it gets cheap, and swap the esn with an old phone I've got and run it on my sero plan. it'll be the trusty old vogue-droid until then.

I don't think that I could own a non-htc device after being spoiled for so long with my vogue, so that knocks the moto droid out I've seen more than one report saying this spring for Nexus 1 on Verizon so hopefully there's no funny business lol.. T-mobiles offering it for 179.00 on new contract but I bet it's 299.99 at least on VZW with upgrade.

Isn't this the dude who got pissed off with Android on a daily basis, and swore on a weekly basis that he was never going to use Android again? I can't sleep and decided to check out things on the Vogue forum since I've been gone. Good to see fixxxer2008's still providing entertainment.
Also, although I can't make calls with it, I've still got my Vogue. I think I'll try a NAND flash on it just to see how everyone's hard work has been paying off.

I bought it the day after launch then got the Evo 3d on launch day. Now I just bought a used one off ebay for my mom to replace her Hero(my old phone before the 4g) It's been a blast playing around with one again. My 3D is better in almost every respect theres 2 things that bother me though. First is the new aspect ratio on the screen, the second is the great roms. We don't even have a rc for cm7 yet and our ics is nowhere near the 4g.
You'll be getting the real deal with ICS, so who cares how far along progress on something thats gonna get replaced is?
I wouldnt build ICS for the 3VO if its just gonna be replaced by an OTA. Wait for it to drop and customize from there.
The EVO 4g on the other hand, has a lot of development going on simply because its the only way we are going to get it.
sure is amazing the development that goes on for this phone. most other phones get left in the dust way sooner.

So I guess I won't be around here as much.
This community despite some squabbles is incredible. I've enjoyed and appreciated my time here and the help I got.
The moment isn't a bad phone, I just pretend I'm running DarchDroid.

I didn't do anything. It just decided to shut off and not turn back on. Tried many batteries etc. It just went bye bye.

The Moment was rooted before the official 2.1 was released. They have it easy. An earlier version of the Samsung software updater let you run unsigned tarballs. So you just use that to install a custom recovery and off you go.
btw, great reference for the title. was one of my favorite books WAAYYY before the movie, they did a HORRIBLE job with Zaphod

Argh I miss my Hero already. The themes, the ports of different roms. Just don't happen over there in SDX Land. Someone is working on a Sens UI port though. On the upside. Live Wallpapers work perfectly and so does the 3d gallery at the same time.

So wait they just gave you a moment instead, no questions asked? Im gonna try this today as my hero has been acting up and if i get a replacement it would be my 4th phone already. Sprint told me they hardly ever give you a different model phone.
i was reading on another forum that sprint is going to be discontinuing the hero and the moment? is this true? if soo im really ticked considering these phones are less than 10 months old.
i just talked to my friend who works at radio shack and he confirms these phones will be discontinued and not carried for much longer. are there any sprint workers here that can confirm?

id think most users would be pissed right now. i think if they are doing this, it's just to get users to get a droid phone with 4g so we can pay that 'coolness' fee. no reason for you to take offense, this isn't geared towards our small amount of devs here, im talking about sprint/htc. even the damn 1st gen droid got 2.2 and it's about to be discontinued.

im not talking about being outdated. YES in comparison to other droid phones "evo" it is outdated. but i do not agree with them stopping selling or carrying them yet.

I honestly... don't give two ****s. It's the progression of technology. To move with the times, you need to improve with the times. I think it's not bad to discontinue the Hero, but it certainly isn't good either. Hey soul sister, hey that mister mister on the radio, stereo......

already sold...i got twice what i paid for it. but i needed the cash too at the time. now that im going back to work i may give the evo another shot and buy an extended battery. i dunno yet?
Ah the Hero.. I forgot about even having one :/. I remember that phone being the phone I wanted for a whileeeee and then I finally got one only a month later to get the Evo.

The epic is a sleek beautiful phone... in my opinion a lot nicer than the evo, i love the flush buttons at the bottom but i dont like touchwiz or samsung so i won't be getting one

There's an Epic section on XDA. Doesn't matter which phone I get, I'd just be loading AOSP or CyanogenMod on it. But please, come down, from that cloud you're sitting on, I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong.....

Was wondering if we could get some of the top devs to chime in on what is the next device they are going to move on to now that the Evo has gotten a little long on the tooth. I'm on the fence on what my next phone is gonna be. Evo 3D or Galaxy S II. I'm partial to the GS II. The specs sound incredible but don't want to get it & have no Dev support. Case in point, the Epic. I've heard from Myn personally & he's on board with the 3D & I've heard through the grapevine that Aamikam is too. So what about Calkulin, toastcfh, flipzmode, ViRuS, netarchy, and others. Sorry if I left anyone out but those are off the top of my head.

Hmmm my upgrade isn't until September so im hoping better devices might show up. Personally I say get whatever phone makes you happy; I don't buy my phone's based on which "dev" is getting it, I get it because that's what I want lol. For every device there's usually great devs.....except the epic....its like a red head step child no one likes it.

But I agree, get which phone makes you happy, kinda leaning toward the galaxy S II for when mine comes around; but as said, mine isn't till november, so I'm not in 'death decision' mode yet.

Well I my upgrade came June 4th so I can grab the 3D on the 24th or wait for the Within whenever it get released. I'm trying to narrow it down because last year I bought the Evo on release date and purchased the Epic a few months for my second line. I walked around with both for months but rarely used the Epic. It was an alright phone, and spec wise it was better than the Evo but the devs are what really made the Evo for me. That and the fact that I despise TouchWiz with all of my being. Finally got rid of that second line and trying to make a good decision. Want to get the Evo but pound for pound the GS II is the champ. To me the dev support is gonna be the final decision maker. I'm a flash-a-holic and I need my fix for new and different roms.

But I agree, get which phone makes you happy, kinda leaning toward the galaxy S II for when mine comes around; but as said, mine isn't till november, so I'm not in 'death decision' mode yet.

Definitely interested in the gs2 as well! Im not liking that Motorola phone I can't stand its design.....

Lighter, better processor, better camera, better screen.
Hardware is definitely better but software doesn't compliment it
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.

I will never own a Motorola android based phone. Phone looks ugly as heck anyways.

I know I see this a lot. I don't brag or anything; I'm just saying. Hardware is better. That's a fact. Get over it. Look at all of the reviews and see what they say. I am 99% still gonna get evo 3d
