Hero vs. other phones re: speed

Hi all,
First post, but I've been lurking for a bit.
Anyway, I just got my Hero with Sprint about a week ago and am running DamageControl's current ROM. It's a killer phone, but from what I understand the Droid has more processing power. I've got another 3 weeks to give back everything and get free Droids with Verizon.
I know this is a Hero forum, but I wondered if anybody knew of a "benchmarking" resource for all Android phones.....

i like the hero and am willing to stick with it until the evo, and as for whatever comes out after that...i dont know. (android, htc, ect) will eventually release their own iPad, im sure, but i guess its a matter of what YOU want. i got a great plan with sprint (54$ for unlmtd everything) with great coverage (detroit it a major city, its bound to be set up good for the 3G user) and a highly customizable phone to say the least (ill admit i was disappointed when i got the hero, learned of the nexus and all the new upncumins) and am excited to move onto the evo, and can wait patiently.
well, idk about patiently...but ill be waiting...

I was able to see the evo up and running the other day.... WOW. Slim and sleek and very fast... took about a 1/3 or less of the time it took the Hero to open stuff. It was running on 2.1 as well and look really similar to Damages 2.1v5 ROM. This handset is going to really help out Sprint. Only thing the one I saw lacking was they hadn't activated the 4g on it yet.

Yeah, after studying competing prices, I don't know that I could stomach what everybody else is charging. I just don't get how anybody is competing with Sprint at this point!
I'm paying $129 -%15 for two lines, 1500 minutes, web, txt, and mobile-to-mobile. ANYBODY else charges $40-80 a month more!
I guess it's good for us they're so desperate for customers
PS I'm curious as to the price of the EVO. Any guesses?

At least until the next android update (Froyo) is out. I believe Froyo is supposed to support 4G natively

haha, yeah it does. they had it on another phone of theirs in the past (winmo). I wonder what video formats will be supported natively. I hope they add .avi support.

id love to see a full working port of android for the tp2, id hop on that super quick. the design and screen resolution is awesome. other than that id say if you want fast wait for the n1 or evo.

Any devs looking to get this device?
One its acquired, what tools are needed to do a ROM dump/backup?

i plan on getting an incredible as well, i would be happy to do anything i can to help get a custom rom for this

I just hope someone can unlock the 720p recording. I also wish someone can maybe change the the audio when recording to AAC. Where basically having another Omnia HD problem.

I am no dev, but I am very good with Lynx, so I plan to become a dev for the incredible. I want to bring good to this Incredible Device.

Basically if Paul is successful completing the root of the Desire, the Incredible should be a shoe in. The Desire is half rooted so to speak.

I just put in my Pre-order and will be pulling a Kitchen/ROMs together once we get root....
I worked on the Eris Root and that was pretty damn tough...but we got that done as well as rooting the HTC Tatoo in the process
So I will have ROMs/Mods in the future.....as well as another couple Dev friends of mine that are heading over as well!

I wasn't aware that the MotoDroid could be unlocked in the same manner as the N1.
To the best of my knowledge, Verizon has no plans of letting any phone they release be rootable out of the box. They have the most stringent controls of any network carrier and given the size of their network in the US, they don't have to compromise.

I'll be receiving mine wednesday, hopefully will get into this thing very deep, willing to help, count me in.

The moto droid does not have an unlocked bootloader like the n1. and this will more than likely follow the same suit as the desire and legend, so whatever paul did to root the desire and legend will more than likely work on the incredible. hold tight guys, im hoping to start developing on the incredible as soon as i can afford one

I haven't before, but depending how long it takes the other guys, I might dig in. All depends how functional it is with the stock rom

Anyone dumping their Nexus One and Evo for this?

I will be. I am not the type to start dumping carriers for phones, and I know for a fact T-Mobile will be releasing a game changing phone after the summer, but The Droid X is the phone to get and will be for a long time. Anyone else doing this?

I am going to dump my Evo for this phone as well, hope there isnt as many problems.

I'm dumping my G1 and T-Mobile...

I would love to drop the Nexus to get this... but it all comes down to how long it takes to get rooted and custom roms. Cant give up my CM roms.

Nope. Not the Galaxy. It's the Project Emerald phone, by HTC. Will be named Sidekick Twist or HTC Vision, something along those lines. It's been posted around the internet a few times. It supposedly will have a 4.3 AMOLED screen, slide out keyboard and DUAL processors. We will see.

Don't forget that the HTC Sidekick Twist was rumored before the announcement of the dual-core snapdragon.
It comes down to this:
T-Mobile has rumors of 4th quarter phones and Verizon has awesome phones now.
Get a one-year contract, a Droid X & get something better a year from now that supports 4G.

iPhone working on Sprint...watch and tell me what you think

So I came across this vid on youtube and was wondering what you guys this. I think this guy is a big a$$ d bag and just trying to get people to sign up for his ****.
He has another one up on youtube where he puts his EVO ESN on the iphone via an app and said he activated it on Sprint. I know you can just change that carrier name if you jailbreak it pretty easy, but when he dials *2 that gets you thinking a little bit.
I'll try and find that other vid and post that.
I think its a load of ****, but just maybe it's possible.

Basically he's cloned the esn number off of the sprint phone, though 'technically' illeggal, still cool. Though under the same principle youd do it with almost any phone if you know how to chnage its particular esn number.

Wasn't the ESN change the idea people had back in the early Evo days to try to get their Evo on Verizon? I think one or two people around here claimed they did it, acted all smug. Then they probably got their first bill and realized they weren't so smart after all.

I believe this is legit, some guys a local phone store near me claim they can do this and it works. I dont have an iphone myself but its very possible to clone an esn and get this working. It shouldnt matter if the verizon esn is bad because you would be taking it from your current phone.

I heard you will need the verizon iphone's msl so you can get into the programming settings to get data working and sms etc. Idk much about it myself but multiple people claim they got it working. How could it be that all these peolpe are just being assholes and faking it lol. Who knows! Try it out, you'll need to be jailbroken so you can ssh!

Count me in! I found some cheap ones with bad esn's like new as low as 280 (craigslist)! It wont matter if the verizon esn is bad because you would be cloning you sprint one anyways.

Well mine has Been jailbroken since day one. If I can get it to work on sprint then I'm selling it lol. I don't like the iPhone, only have it cuz it was free and it has a good battery lol

I so want to g note 2 but 300 is alot to drop on a phone even for an upgrade. I think im gonna grab the sgs3 for 50 on black friday

Got my SGS3 2 weeks ago and am in love with it. Finally found a phone that was worthy enough to retire the old evo hopefully get some smurfmod love if you get your sgs3

I thought about it for awhile, since Wirefly has had it for 100 bucks, and it;s a sweet phone, but I know I'll always wish I had waited a little longer for the G Note II

Yep S GS4, Note III, probably by then, another new Nexus, etc....
You'll have a lot to choose from

my sprint contract was up last month, i am considering the new Nexus 4 on t-mobile....but no LTE...just HSPA+ ...i am in the milwaukee area, does anyone have any experience with HSPA+ on tmobile? anything has to be an upgrade from my evo, as sprint in milwaukee never had wimax and who knows when they are going to rollout LTE ....i will not get ATT and i dont want to go with verizon, so t mobile seems like a good option....
any opinions out there? thanks in advance

Its worth it :thumbup: i will be officially retiring my evo at the end of the month. I just upgraded my main line to the gs3 10 mins ago and getting the note2 dec 1. My dad just bought one off contract and gave me the gs3 so I can use my upgrade on a note2 in December. That is one bad phone, its fast has a bbs (big beautiful screen) and did i mention its fast like 0 lag when multitasking in dual screen mode. Definitely worth the upgrade especially coming from the evo you wont be disappointed

I'm sure I am not alone in saying that my Evo is serving its purpose as a wifi music player. I keep mine at work with the latest stock rooted ROM. I still love Sense, if it were GSM I would probably swap it with my Nexus S 4G every now and then.

Good bye, I have the Note 2 now. I loved my EVO though and although the screen is cracked I don't want to rid myself of the thing. Sprint is offering me $38 worth of credit for it though so eventually I will mail it in.

Well i upgraded to the EVO 4G LTE on launch day. My OG EVO is still a boss (I let my friend have the phone). That thing runs as good as it did the day I bought it. Had to stay with the EVO brand just love the phones

I love my EVO and is sad that is going out like this and I can't upgrade yet since I got it last summer. I would love to use the GS3 but it will cost me an arm and a leg to get it now so is EVO OG till the very end! Hey, I don't feel bad about old phones, they still can perform. I have a bricked G1 that I might JTAG since no one here "knows" how to do it, but they gladly will get it out of my hands for free (really?) So I am not giving that one up and I would love to see it running Donut again. As far as this EVO, it might finish in my son or daughter's hand.
