is it just me or do smartphones love to kill sim cards?! When I bought my g1 in late 2008 I needed a new sim card 3 days later. Last year the sim died again. Tonight looks like sim card is dead on my 3wk old HD2. I'm glad I have a few extras at home since the t-mobile store likes to charge 25 dollars for a new one. I was on a call before I went into the gym and when I got out I went to resume a call and no service, I'ts been an hour 3 resets later and no service.
Sim cards suck!!
I've been using the same SIM for the last 3 years with no problems, so must be just you. And you should stop going to the store that charges you $25, T-mobile will replace them for free if they are faulty.
The original that was replaced after i bought the g1 was 5yrs old. It's been less than a year and half and I've had to replace 3 sim cards. I have the one that came with the HD2 I'll take up to the store tomorrow and have it replaced. I put my wife's sim card in the phone and service fired right so I now know it's the sim.
I have never had one fail. I have had the same one for several years as well. One I used to use even had a huge dent in it that almost past through it.
ive never heard of a sim card failing, not just out of the blue. Ive had my current sim about 5/6 years. Maybe you should review your sim card insertion and extraction process! hehe
I had 3 cards fail in my BB 8320. They just failed out of the blue. One of them failed right after I got off a call. T-mobile replaced them all for free though. The person who replaced one of them commented that they were replacing a lot of SIM cards in 8320s. My wife never had to replace her SIM card in the exact same phone, it is now happily in her HD2.

Yes I do power it off before that, considering you have to remove the battery to remove the sim.
This is strange.
My wife and I have the same SIM cards that we got four years ago when moving to Austin.
Her sister is now using her second one, not sure if she changed it due to a problem or what though.
Oh, and I have used the same card in 8 different phones over the years, that I can recall.

My 16gb sd card that came with the phone corrupted in less than 2 weeks. I called t-mobile to see about a replacement. They told me I had to call HTC and gave me a number to call.
I called HTC this morning and they refused to replace the card. They told me that since I formatted the card in an attempt to fix the piece of crap, I voided my warranty. I told them that was ridiculous since the phone said the card needed to be formatted and the phone came with formatting software. They said there was nothing they could do.
Luckily I bought 3 hd2's for the family so I am calling back with a different SN. If they don't get me a new card, I am taking my son's back to walmart for exchange (just got it last week).
The threads mentioning this is true. I called earlier this morning and in about 5 minutes an HTC rep took my address and said a replacement Class 4 Micro SD Card would be sent to me within 10 days. I have read there might be some delays but thats fine. They are replacing the card and you dont even have to send the original one back!
in the USA call 888-356-2375
They only asked me for my IMEI and what the problem was with the phone/card. Then they asked where i purchased and how long ago I purchased. I only bought the phone back in May 2010 from Tmobile website as upgrade. That was it. She asked for my shipping address and in about 5 minutes it was done.
So if you would like to get a new Class 4 16GB card call and get it over with. I suppose its a known issue with the cards that shipped with the phones. I didnt have to update my Stock ROM to the Tmobile update because it was already applied to my phone. Instead though I opted to install Energy ROM.
Ive had some freezing issues lately. So getting the new card, about to head to the store to get a new SIM because mine is about 5 years old and they said it would be free to replace so im going now. already done the Task 29 w/o MTTY so i figure last resort I will just try a totally different ROM, go back to the stock ROM (but cant run android on it) or just have TMO replace it.

UPDATE 10/11/2010
many HD2 owners have reported that HTC is no longer offering the free cards. instead they want you to send in your card for replacement or give a credit card # to expedite your replacement order.
Guess those like myself that ordered early got lucky!
Sorry to the rest of you guys/gals that wanted the card.
If your card is defective though just send it in for replacement. Its better than nothing!
So you just called in and demanded a new SD card?
What did you tell them was wrong with the phone/card?
Thanks...
I just told them the phone was freezing and that I read about the known issue with the class 2 cards sent with the phones.
So they quickly just replaced it and said it would come Fed Ex. I didn't demand it just asked about it and they replaced it

just fyi, not all csr agents are informed of this, the first one i got said that they weren't and only defective cards that dont work were being replaced, i called back a few minutes later and got a csr that took my info and got it all set up within 5 minutes.. i should get it in 3-5 days.
So, if you get a clueless csr first, hang up and try again!
holy ****
this is real deal. took me 2 minutes and its on its way.
Thanks for the info...mine is on its way
thanks for the new card
same. done. to easy. said possible delay and on back order. thanks for the heads up.
Thanks! Will have one in a few weeks as they're backordered.

wow ... this sounds great ... i have been meaning to get myself a better card for a while now. I got my phone off ebay. I dont know where it was bought and when it was bought, though the seller claimed it was hardly a week old when I bought it. Is this information required ? Or I could just tell them the IMEI number and ask for a replacement ?
Thanks !
Yeah buddy, took 3 minutes and the new card is gonna be shipped as soon as stock is replenished. Thank you for sharing!
My Thanks Goto....

a member at the HTC forums named Spiked that provided this information. I found this thread on there and decided to go for broke and try it!
Glad you all are getting a new card as well!!
Not only am I getting a new card but I had to break down and call Tmobile to get a new device. Mine just freezes after any ROM flash so its back to my Blackberry 8520 for a few days!
Cheers!

All I can say is that they did ask where it was purchased. Try it and tell them eBay, what do you have to lose?

So, I just got my order in, and it's shipping! But, I talked to the CSR, and she said that shes "not aware of a class 4 replacement, but that sandisk had sent them class 2's that were supposedly better."
Now, I dont know if she just had no clue what she was talking about, or if she was on her game.
So I'll wait and see I guess, but we may be receiving another class 2. I dont really mind though, free SD card! Woot! THANKS OP!
I just want to double check but are we suppose to call htc tech support or tmobile tech support? thanks
Well is this free SD card only for the people in the US or also for Rest of the World..???
Anybody outside US tried it as yet..???
I am from INDIA, so can anybody gimme an update on that if any..???
PS: - I have a contracted T-Mobile HD2 from the UK, which is unlocked & being used in INDIA
Call the number I included in post 1. It is HTC you are calling not Tmobile. It is HTCs number for Tmobile RMA and repairs.

heartsurfer, I'm not sure. If its tmobile phone I would gather u could get one. Doesn't hurt to try.

Since I read the forums and the known issues with the SD cards, I just replaced mine with a 16GB class 6 card that I have ordered before for use with a LG KM900 Arena.
Even with the class 6 card I can barely get above 4.3mb transfer rate to the card when it is in the HD2. the KM900 pulled data at almost 6MB/sec with the same card
Guys.. i talked to HTC and was offered replacement. but unfortunately it is a class 2 card they will be sending.. they said they will never ship out the class 4 card as they have guidelines on sending the class 2 card.. so not sure how the other guys managed.. but i still feel they will ship the class2 card for everyone..
So let me know if i am wrong..
I didn't use my samsung focus for a month and a bit. Now it won't recognize my sim card or ANY other one. Done tons of factory resets.
i think one of the prongs is broken
it looks like one of the 3 prongs is not where its supposed to be, you can see it in the left circle
One of the prongs broke in mine shortly after I bought it. You have to be VERY careful with the sim card. It's a really ****ty design for such an overpriced phone.
what did u do about it?
it is broken but easily repairable...

Returned it to AT&T and swapped it for a new one. If this was a $30 phone from Walmart I wouldn't care but it's really bad quality hardware for the $500 I actually paid for it. Bad enough that I'd consider it a manufacturer defect and, apparently, so did AT&T. I'm pretty amazed that more people don't have a problem with this considering I was being careful when it happened to me. Never felt any resistance like the prong was caught or anything, it just didn't work and when I pulled the sim card back out the prong was gone. I never put a sim card in the new phone. Good luck!
awesome thanks man! im with rogers so i hope i get a swap also. i dont have the receipt tho
and they wouldnt do **** for me. told me to call the rogers1 number
called 1888 rogers1 , they are sending me a replacement in 3-5 business days

Replaced the SIM for more than 10 times, never had a problem.
Hello xda! My nexus 4 arrived today directly from google and i knew from the beggining that it was going to need a Micro-sim card... A friend of mine offered to cut my simple mobile normal sim card, and he did it, the problem is that the phone does not recognize my simcard. I have restarted several times and nothing happens it just says NO SIM CARD--EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY and i also cannot save any apn neither.
1. Is my simcard damaged?
2. If i ask for a new one at my simplemobile supplier will they replace it keeping my old number? (What cost)
NOTE: I did not pay my last month bill from simple mobile (My GT-i9100 Hard Bricked) so i suppose it has no service, until i pay it tomorrow.

First of all pay the bill.
This is normal, phone doesn't recognize the sim because the sim might be old or not properly cut.
Answers :
1)Yes might be, not properly cut.
2)You can ask for a micor sim card, they will give it to you with your old number. All service providers provide a micro sim, dont know about the charges.
Will do Rohit Thanks, ill keep you updated if anything happens tomorrow.

phone was working fine, I updated to 4.5.5 after reboot the phone would not connect to a mobile network said emergency calls only. spoke to OnePlus suspiciously instantly telling me to contact my provider. I did, said everything was fine on there end, tried my SIM in another phone same emergency calls only. Got a different SIM to work on my oneplus so gave the benefit of the doubt. got my lazy butt down to the store to get a replacement SIM, it worked then about an hour ago stopped again. When I called back to tell them the new one was also broken they tried to fob I me off with 'have you spoke to your carrier's no matter what I want a new phone as this one is defective. I spoke to a manger the turn around is going to take all week! I offered to purchase a new one but they can't assure me it will ship tomorrow even if I pay the extra shipping. of the 2 packages I ordered the quickest was 4 days with the expedited shipping, I'm just outside london. should I get another brand? I do like the PHONE the service is poor. others have had similar issues appently, which means when they told me to speak to the carrier they where deceiving me. Ok just wrote that and now it's back up again, rebooted and gone again..... Can't be asked to inform OnePlus they do not seem to care.
So new phone or replace this OnePlus 5? Not impressed with the level of sevice

I`am running 2 sim cards and i`am running 4.5.5 and no issue so far. All working flawless. Have you tried other simcards (friends or family) to see if the issue remains?
I did try in other devices. I am only using 1 SIM slot, it has broken 2 different SIM cards in the same slot. Sorry I am poo at explaining things

Sounds like a hardware issue to me, i'd suggest you visit a OnePlus authorized service center and get that checked out. Replace the slots maybe? And if it's not a possibility then replace the phone.
Thanks for the replies. I have decided to return the phone and get something different. The customer service was nothing but deceitful, they knew others where having similar issues and tried to blame the carrier 3 times. If they where honest from the start I would get a new one. Thanks for the second opinion have a lovely day guys
