I got this phone on eBay for about 350$, today I received it in the mail and surprisingly it came with a sim still attached to its enclosing.
The package is full everything is included... headphones, manuals, cables...etc
I find it very strange to include a brand new sim...
I have sent an email through eBay asking seller about the source and sim...etc
I dunno what the answer would be or if there will be an answer at all!
Can this be stolen? what are the scenarios?
maybe its a pay as you go sim card,
Where was the sim found exactly? if it's second hand then it could be the previous owners. If it's new then it's either a pay as you go card, as already suggested or a contract sim card waiting to be activated.
It could also be a stolen phone but for $350 i doubt. Easiest way to tell is if it came with the shipping screen protector on it. It has the words "to prevent damage please remove from pants pocket before sitting down" or something like that.
Well, phone is like new t-mobile USA, seller says in auction:
"Title says it all, HD2 new in box, opened to test and used for about one hour. Locked for tmobile but easy to unlock. Great phone and one of the best displays I have ever seen but have to sell. All sales are final and are AsIs. Warranty for 11months through tmobile is still valid by imei"
I just don't want to get into any kind of trouble for buying potentially stolen property, should I call t-mobile?
Phone contained few family pictures, no call history, when I click on software information is showed 7 min of outgoing call and almost 2 min of incoming call.
This is the weirdest phone deal I ever made on eBay !!!!
I shouldn't worry about it. I'd guess it is a t mobile payg card, because the phone will still be locked to tmo, so the seller is including one. That way if some dim wit buys it and tries to put a different network sim in and it doesnt work, the seller can say 'hey, i gave them a sim'. (i'm an ebay seller, ebay are [email protected], take money offa ya at the slightest complaint from a buyer.)
The hours testing sounds fair but only 11 months warranty? how long has this guy had it? overall it sounds above board and if it is nicked you actually have proof you had no idea as long as you take a copy of the item description and keep the invoice
TMobile USA version of the HD2 comes with a Tmobile sim so that you just have to call tmobile (number on the sim) and provide the sims number to activate it (this is so that if you bought the phone via phonecall to tmobile and not in a tmobile store, you can use the phone no problem). That's most likely what you're referring to.
Seller replied to my question saynig:
"I kept the sim card since it was linked to my personal data and
with my address book. It was purchased at a tmobile corporate
store just over 30 days ago and can be checked with tmobile
customer care by imei"
I guess that's an acknowledgment that he bought it himself.
i guess so but it does put a big question over where the sim card that came with it came from because if he kept the original what the hell is the one you have?
I can imagine only one scenario (if he is being truthful). He was already a T-Mobile customer when he purchased the package, and he just shoved his old sim in (the one that contains his contacts), he didn't need the new sim included in the package so he left it intact.
Just got off the phone with Microsoft Store @ Mission Viejo,
They just got in a shipment. No details on how many (I was called because I need to exchange my engineering sample) but figured you guys may want to know this
Make sure you test the phone before you leave the store. I got the same call and headed down to the store and found out that out of the three phones they had none of them would take a SIM card. We tried 3 different sim cards in all phones and all of them would not recognize them. Certainly a frustrating time at the store for both myself and the employees as they ended up pulling the remaining units they had as it seems Dell might have another issue.
I walked in with a phone that only had some wifi issues and ended up talking out with an HD7 as that was the only thing they could get to work.
I was told that if they get more Dell units that actually work they would call me.

Was this the Mission Viejo store?
Was the San Diego store.. I felt bad for the employees there as they were excited to have the phone in semi-stock again (3 available)

So true, the first phone they tried didn't take a SIM card.. It kept displaying SIM error, but luckily the next phone worked.
Now that I spent more time with it, I feel that the screen is has very 'warm' color, increasing the brightness make everything too contrasty... My original phone had a more blueish tint...
The phone is awesome but hate these quirks, I'm going back to the store to check another unit... or get the HD7
Several people were asking what comes with the Charge that is being offered as replacement and what do you have to send back. Here is a list of each item that i received today from big red.
In my Fed Ex box, i found a new droid charge kit (the box they come in new) and the activation guide for 4g phones.
In the Charge kit, i found a user manual, the new device, battery, AC ->USB adapter with a USB sync cable (yay!), and a $25 samsung media hub credit code. The phone DOES have the preinstalled 32gb sd card included!
What is NOT included is the 4gLTE sim card. You have to go to the corporate store for one of these. They will put it in for you and assist you in re adding your google account.
The agent stated that you are NOT required to return your old SD Card or any cases or accessories. I asked if they required the used battery and phone backing (you keep them with normal replacements) and she could not give me an answer.
I have to say that i am more than pleased with this offer and am very satisfied myself. Hope this helps!
I had a dream last night that i switched to a charge and it was shaped like a pair of binoculars and had huge push buttons everywhere on it.

Just an FYI, my closest corporate store is ~45 miles away. I called my nearest 3rd party store (Wireless Zone) and they sold me the 4gLTE sim card for $5, and activated it. It would have been free at the VZW store, but not worth the 90 mile round trip in my case.
I understand a majority of you guys got your fascinates through verizon. But i purchased mine through best buy when they had the fascinate for 150$ promotion.
I too get missed calls and other issues but i can bet best buy is not as willing to replace products for free. Is there anyway i can get verizon to supply me with a new phone since it is their radio that is the issue here? Thanks for any input !:
if you got your fassy on contract it will have a 1 year manufacturers warranty. I have heard though that if you call tier 2 and complain enough they will offer you at the least a incredible 2 or dx2 no matter where you got your fassy... worth a shot either way
I bought mine through eBay roughly 2 months ago and they never once asked how I purchased it. They were really apologetic and asked if I was interested in a different device or to wait until an update was put out later this month. Of course I took the new phone
I wasn't aware the charge was being offered as a replacement. I called several times earlier this month and was repeatedly offered a refurbished fascinate.

I think they made it a policy to replace with other models on 7/8. Its pretty amazing that they'd even replace with such new models.

I bought mine at Best Buy on Black Friday and they allowed me to do the replacement. The second time I called to tell them which phone I wanted, the woman told me that they could only replace it with another Fascinate, now that they were back in stock. So I rejected the replacement and called back, got a different rep who honored the original offer. I took the Inc2. Don't really like the look of the Charge even though I love the screen and potential 32GB card (lol), but we don't have 4G where I live and since it doesn't extend your contract, I figured its still a nice deal.
Called today with the dropped call complaint, immediately offered my choice of the three...heading to the store to finish up my "order" on the charge today!

So if yall are getting inc 2's and charges as replacements and say your upgrade date is in 2 months, could you still upgrade to something else?

For those of you getting the Charge, what exactly did you say to them? Just, "I'm having dropped call issues."? From my past experiences they will want you to do three hundred other things and then tell you to see how it does for a few days and call back if it happens again. Was it really as simple as "I am having dropped calls a lot, several times a day" and they go "ok how about a Droid charge"?

First tier will probably wanna do some basic troubleshooting like *228 and battery pulls or resets, just keep insisting politely that you've done all this (do it if they keep saying they want you to) and are still having problems but don't push for a new phone... You should get transferred to tier 2 (you may have to ask to go higher, ask them if there's anything else a different higher level rep can do), once you reach tier 2 they should've been told of your problems and will ask if you would like a replacement phone. You may hit snags where they ask you to go into a store to check the phone out or they may ask you questions about the build/baseband you're on, if so just comply and call back if they deny you. This is how my phone call went: I told the first CS rep about the usual problems missed calls, gps lock problems, poor signal strength etc. then she proceeded to have me do the *228 update (was on EB01 when I called I believe). It wouldn't update so she immediately told me to hold while she transferred me to tier 2 and told them about my issues. Tier 2 guy answered and right off the bat offered to replace my phone with another one, I asked 'like what?' and he named off the Dinc2, X2, and Charge. The rest is obvious...
It depends on the rep you get. Some say they have to troubleshoot it with you, even if there are notes that you have already done so. The first rep I spoke to, told me that she could only replace it with another Fascinate. I declined and called back. It was with the second rep that I was given the choices. It all depends on if the rep you speak with knows about the problems with the phone.

they can't but I was told they know the last time you did a *228 prl reset, my phone didn't successfully complete it (don't know why) and I was immediately transferred cuz she probably thought that was the problem

Anyone have any experience returning phones with physical damage? I have a cracked screen, phone works fine and I did talk to them a long time ago about the issue so it should show up in the account. Do I have a shot?
I just received my brand new Xperia Play yesterday.
It was purchased from ebay and was brand new in the box.
It was advertised as an unwanted upgrade as well as being unlocked.
However, yesterday I tried my international simcard which did not work, vodafone simcard and even after taking it to carphonewarehouse & orange trying a further 2 simcards, it fails to read ANY simcard regardless of company.
I have just a week to solve this problem since I am on holiday in the UK and have to leave nexr weekend.
Based on the above problem, what do you experts think the problem is?
I tried factory resettings, default settings, etc, still not reading any simcards.
The phone obviously is no good to me since it cannot make/receive calls/texts.
Aside from this problem, everything else is working perfectly.
Could this be a hardware issue or software? How can I figure out the problem.
Since time is a factor I don't have time to send it back and wait for repairs or a replacement.
Should this fault be quick & easy to solve I don't mind paying £20 or so if it can be fixed, beats waiting weeks for a replacement.
Any ideas you guys have please feel free to give me any ideas to try to get this phone reading sim cards.
Thanks guys/girls...
EVERY time I turn on my phone I get the following message ''please insert simcard and restart your phone'' even though the simcard inside the phone is working perfectly fine...
It sounds like a H/W fault... contact the seller and/or paypal

I did indeed contact the seller and am awaiting his answer...
Is the fault easy, quick and more or less cheap to fix from a local mobile phone shop?
If I was to download & use a custom rom, could this possibly fix the problem?
In the past I've had problems with bluetooth/wireless lan refusing to work even though everything else did.
After trying another rom it then worked.
This makes me wanna try another rom before returning the phone and waiting weeks for a replacement.
The seller however got back to me saying it was all working before, he has no idea why it's not reading simcards and to return it should it not work.
I will update the rom and report back.

Flashing a new ROM won't repair the problem. What country was the seller in when he sold it to you? Maybe it's still sim locked. Try to unlock it using a 3rd party.

It was a UK seller to a UK buyer (me)
I've tried 4 different simcards of all different networks, not reading any simcard.
The phone appears to be unlocked according to the seller.
Can this issue be easily & cheaply fixed in a local mobile repair shop?
if its not been bootloader unlocked and then ota bricked then it sounds to me like its blacklisted in other words reported lost/stolen or fraudulant and so pretty much useless to anyone in the UK

Hmmm, how can I find out WTF is actually wrong with the phone?
The LAST thing I wanna do is return it, and then waiting ages for a replacement or refund.
Is it worth me taking the phone to a mobile repair place and asking them to look into this?

dont think its sim locked since its saying please insert sim card if it was locked more than likely itll say please enter network unlock code
does sound like a hardware issue do you have the battery cover on when your trying it?
i know my play when the battery cover is off the sd card wont work etc maybe its the same with the sim card
sure i dont have to ask your putting in the simcard correctly right?
shame nonetheless it might be more expensive to try and fix it since parts are not easily available
The sim card works without battery cover... If you inserted the card in properly... It should work.... If not then refund it.

Best thing to do is pop it into an orange shop and ask them to check the imei on the blacklisting website, if it comes up blocked you know for certain. If it not then it could be a hardware issue but i doubt it. Good luck

This is a good idea.
Anyway I've just come back from a few mobile repair shops.
After checking the phone, the engineer said it appears to be blocked and will only work outside the country.
Should this be the case, it's not a major issue since I live in Dubai. I happen to be in London for a holiday.
The phone was bought from ebay, and if the handset is indeed blocked then the seller is taking the piss since he simply mentioned the phone being an unwanted upgrade as well as unlocked!
I will contact the seller now and see what he says.
it will work mostly everywhere except the uk
This is the only problem with buying phones off eBay, it happend to my sister twice. The good news is that it will work in other country's if it's ota blocked, as it just means that the imea number don't work with UK networks as they have a UK database with all phones that have been reported lost or stolen.
The problem with eBay/PayPal is you only have so many days to file a dispute, so the seller waits till times up then reports it lost or stolen then claims on there insurance, or in some cases take out a new contract just to sell the phone on eBay then not pay the bill. There's a chav lad near me that pays ppl to take out contracts and pays them so much for the phone, what these ppl don't realise is there ruining there credit rating.

Yeah, I've had quite bad experience using ebay even when buying from ebayers with high & perfect feedback.
Anyway the seller got back to me and swears it is a genuine phone that was claimed from an insurance company and is unlocked and sim free.
He said he tried 2 different sim cards with the phone before advertising it.
My question is how did it previously work yet now it refuses to read any sim?
I may take the phone to an alternative shop and ask them to look into this.
Could it be the sim/sim reader is faulty or damaged and therefore not reading sim cards?
if it was blocked by networks it would just scan for networks and not be able to register on one, it wouldnt say insert sim.
This has been badly flashed IMHO and to my knowledge there is no fix
Go into Service Menu and check Simlock Status:
Dial this:
*#*#SERIVCE#*#*
There are also different Service Tests. For me this problems sounds like the "faulty" method which was used to fix the OTA-Brick on unlocked bootloader!
If it is this problem, your phone will be simlocked (not network-locked!!!) to ANY sim card. And you have to unlock via Software -> Omnius/SE-Tool etc. etc.
Regards
Thanks everyone for your support.
As of now I have no idea of what the problem is.
All I can say is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is in a repair shop.
It will cost me £45 and on tuesday it should be repaired regardless.
Should they be able to fix the item, great, otherwise if they are unable to fix it then I will get a refund.
I will get back to you lot on tuesday with the results!
My poor 24 hour old brand new Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is in for repairs already and it's still got all the front and back protectors still on...
I've had the simcard reading thing happen to me a few times. After a few reboots, it would be fine again.
My gf and I both have atrix phones and I'm on my 2nd one. it's been fine so far, it runs ICS etc etc
well, she is on her 3rd one and this one is having problems already
1st one the digitizer stopped working
2nd one speaker wasn't working
3rd one the notification bar keeps disappearing. factory reset does not fix it
I don't want to root her phone or anything so she wants to keep it stock (and she should)
We talked to motorola and they told us to factory reset. told them we did, and they pretty much said do it again... wtf #1
after I told her to call AT&T and they told her the same thing. We told them it was already factory reset once about an hour ago, and they said to take it back to the service center and get a 4th one.... problem is, she can't this week because this was her only day off. (I guess they forget we can't keep going back to the service center because we work) they also suggested when we get the 4th one to play around with it for about an hour at the place so we know it works.... seriously?
3 phones and 2 of them broke within a week (the notification bar happens about 10 mins after starting the phone)
does anyone have any suggestions on this problem we're having? We can go back and get a 4th one, but jeez... 4 phones? I think it's time they give her something else
Thanks for the suggestions everyone
Hmm... it seems like you just have bad luck.
What you could try to do is ask AT&T to give you both new Atrix 2's free of charge.
You can explain how it's not your fault that all of this is happening and that they should value that you are their customer.
It's worth a shot and I think you have a good chance at convincing them to do this. You'll probably need to sign a new 2-year contract though.
I would tell AT&T you are tired of Motorola and the problems with the phones and aske for a Skyrocket to replace them with. Worth a shot if you want to upgrade and get away from Motorola.
Mine was sent once cos digitizer stopped working, then month later I had random reboots even on stock. They send me new one and its fine. I dont mind as long as they offer replacement.

My first Atrix never worked out of the box. Sent in for repair, didn't work. Sent in again, worked for a week, something else broke.
Got a NEW replacement from Motorola after much *****ing and escalating to BBB & executive customer service and have not had any problems yet, except it came with a non-working factory battery that was replaced after two months of being ignored.
I'm hesitant to buy another Motorola because their support team makes it a nightmare to get your phone fixed or replaced.

yep. had 4 Atrix already... the more att replaced my phone, the worse it got.
New atrix -> bluetooth audio stream keeps disconnecting --> Moto said, go get it replaced because it should not do that...
1st replacement -> refurbished... same problem... called Moto again and att service center --> go get it replaced.
2nd replacement -> refurbished... same bluetooth problem, with additional random reboot. i check phone to look at time, press power button -> reboots.... a lot... --> replacement time... but wait... "we cannot replicate the problem" says att service center representative, "thus we cannot replace it"...
me: it is "RANDOM"... they played with it for 5 mins and could not replicate the problem..
att service center representative told me to call att replacement center who said "why wouldn't they replace it? all we're going to do is the same thing they would, which is replace the phone".. att service center: "our policy is, if we cannot replicate problem, we do not replace"
with much frustration, finally got a hold of someone higher up who was willing to replace phone...
3rd replacement coming from so called higher up -> refurbished... status bar disappears... cannot answer calls, bluetooth problems, wrong battery gauge... out of att options... last option, send it in for repairs at Moto... will be getting phone back tomorrow.. will see how phone works... crossed fingers, it would work as it should...
Yeah, the motorola phones boast a lot of features, but even with the motorola razor in the past, I remember disliking it due to unreasonable security restrictions and random bgs.
i have been with att for many years and dealt with alot of **** and like our friend the att rep said its a refurbished device so it had problems before so its bound to again, see i got the atrix with the 99 cent deal and after one with one problem i called moto and att and i got a new atrix to replace my old one, which had a chip in the fingerprint reader and no rubber around the camera lens, call and beg plead and lie it works every time lol take it from someone who has been through 20 phones in 4 years if its the phone they provided you with they will replace it, alos only 3 or 4 out of that 20 i actually broke the rest were refurbs and refurbs of a different make and model, good luck OP you should get it right eventually
It isn't just Motorola. I have had the same problems with HTC, Sony, and Nokia. My son had 4 iphones replaced. It is a refurb problem. Just keep complaining and eventually you might get one that lasts.
i have just received back my phone from motorola... and guess what... FAIL! my phone has not be repaired! they did not input the problem i told them about so all they did was flash the software.
I'd been on the phone with them for a good 3-4 hrs to get my phone replaced/repaired. In order for motorola to "replace" the phone, they need to verify with ATT that the phone had been replaced at least 3 times. They need the Serial no. or IMEI no. of the phones that had been replaced, and they cannot guarantee that I will receive a new phone. problem is, I do not keep the serial numbers/IMEI numbers of the phone I get, so I advice you guys to write it down or something just in case stupid things like this happen
I replaced my atrix 4 times because of a ****ing nice issue. People hear me like im in a tunnel .... garbled and far away. I still don't have it right but I kept it since it fell in water. It works perfectly because I pulled battery immediately but I can't return it because the white dot is now red.

same here. my digitizer went bad, refurb had messed up contacts for sdcard and wouldn't see it. Next refurb the screen was not aligned good, could see light bleed around the edges. I fixed the contacts on the second one and sent the last one back. Oh yea the phone also had the drop bluetooth problem, but that seems to have been fixed after flashing.
About puked when i first turned on the phone on and saw all that att bloat crap on there.
