I wanna start off by saying thank you to everyone who helps make this forum such an amazing resource.
The question I have is I bought a Cingular branded 8525 about three months ago and it has been giving me nothing but trouble, from my keyboard randomly not working, none of the front or side buttons working, keyboard lights not working, secondary characters on the keyboard being all scrambled, and the newest addition the phone not vibrating at all. It is still under warranty but the problem is that I don't and never had ATT and i've been using the phoen unlocked. Its still under warranty with HTC and they've already tried to repair it, I think they said they replaced the main board but more and more issues keep coming up. What i'm wondering is if there is anyway to get ATT to just replace the phone like they would do for a regular ATT customer? Has anyone been successful in this? I've tried calling them but they keep saying that since I dont have an account with them they can't help me out.
Any help or guidance would be really great!!
Thanks in advanced
BUMP.... can anyone give me any advice?
unfortunately, that's the risk you take when you buy a 3rd party phone. They'll warranty it for THEIR customers. I've been successful buying an 8525 on fleabay and getting them to honor the warranty ( 4 times ), but I'm also an ATT customer. The phone was not released to Non-customers, so they won't talk to you if you're not a customer. It's nothing personal, It's just the way it is.
I have been relatively calm about the shortcomings of my HD2. I understand when purchasing anything even slightly touched by the delicate hand of Microsoft that you will have to tweak, fix and workaround - this is all part of the fun with the phone.
Today however the phone went one step too far. I awoke this morning to find my HD2 had yet again forgotten my PIN number, so on unlocking the screen I was informed that I had entered the incorrect PIN(!). I soft reset the device, removed the SIM card, let it stand for a few seconds then booted up again to no avail.
I have now entered the 'incorrect' PIN too many times, and so my device has deleted all information on it... losing all contacts, photos etc.
For a phone to get something so basic so wrong is unforgivable. Coupled with the issues with SMS (i.e. texts sitting in the outbox, and when it finally decides to send them, they go to the wrong people, taking an age to load conversations), I think HTC/Microsoft have a problem they need to address.
Sorry to hear of your problems, but by far the majority have not had any of the problems you have mentioned. Try a hard reset and remember to back up your device.
Mine has lost connection settings and 2 email accounts at the same time. Your problem is much worse of course. Instead of a finished phone i feel like part of an experiment at the moment, and HTC will finish the Rom whenever they can be bothered..

I have had this incorrect PIN message also. sometimes when left over night and occasionally during the day.
So far a soft reset has solved it. Since having my HD2 I've had to reset it 1 - 2 times a day. Not very impressed at its lack of stability.
I have a SIM free unlocked UK HD2
Is this all happening on the stock rom or cooked roms?

stock rom i have the original 1.43 i think and i have had this problem, was begining to think i was the only one!
Also My HTC HD2 lost its password already twice
Hello, I can add to this threat that I also had an unexpected and incorrect ' wrong password' experience twice, where my password (8 digits, correctly entered) was suddenly not accepted anymore. Soft resets did not help and I had to restore previous backups loosing recently entered data. Very annoying and in my view not acceptable.

Very annoyingly this has also happened to me. My phone ran out of battery last night, and when plugged back in a few minutes later, the device didn't recognise my four digit pin.
Is there some sort of generic pin it resets to?
Am now locked out for 30 minutes at a time, and very worried the next time I try and get it wrong all my data will be wiped.
Can I back up my contacts/data on to my PC despite the phone being locked? (Am at work right now so can't check for myself)
Great phone but this is unacceptable
2 Options:
1) don't lock your phones with a pin code
2) flash a cooked Rom as they have been more stable based on feedback that I have been reading.

The problem is I have to have my phone hooked up with my work email/calendar etc and for some reason it insists on a pin
Sorry but - what does "flash a cooked rom" mean?
Thanks
Sam
oh and soft resets haven't worked here either

How to flash a cooked ROM:
Step 1:
Read the first page <<HERE>>..
Step 2:
Then select a cooked Rom From <<HERE>> in the list where it says [ROM]. Read <<THIS>> for more guidance. But it's not necessary to read it because if you go BACK TO STEP 1 there is also a video that shows you what to do with the ROM FILE after you have downloaded it. REREAD STEP 1 when you have everything in place as it's that simple. Make sure your read the WHOLE PAGE OF STEP 1 before you begin and even during the process there is TROUBLE SHOOTING DETAILS THAT ARE IMPORTANT.
thanks band27
I've had to hard reset and because I couldnt connect my phone because it was locked I'm not been able to back up some bits.
Reading elsewhere it appears like a WM 6.5 problem. absolutely pathetic, but why htc hasnt sorted it as well is quite a disgrace.
i've decided not to get my work emails back on my device so i don't need a pin, its my own mobile anyway so they can take a walk!
password dissapear
hi.
i have had some experience of passwords dissapearing so each time i use one of any of my 3 email accounts on the hd2 it requred me to re-enter my password.
the same thing logging into latitude on google maps
i figured out i can repeat the fault every time by installing swipe keyboard, or un-installing it !!
dont even know if this is the real reason it happens but it works ( or fails ) each time and i tried it on a few different roms now !
=====PEACE=====
i have the same problem and i have been tring to unlock phone after restart and it keep saying incorrect pin and im locked out.
Not recognizing my pin (again)
I bought the HTC HD2 end of january. Nice phone. But after 1 week it didn't recognize my pin anymore. Fortunately the shop where I bought it, has a '14 days not happy with the phone get another one'-policy. So I gat another HTC HD2. Had to install everything again and lost everything I had stored on the other phone. But the new phone worked !
Till yesterday evening. Again the HTC HD2 didn't recognize my pin
I tried to install the ROM-update. But that doesn't work, because you have to unlock the phone for that (otherwise there's no connection between my phone and my computer). Also tried the hard reset. Nothing works.
I hope someone has a solution for me. Cause I'm really getting tired of this.
i don't know, i unlock my sim pin since my first phone, my e-mail accounts are working fine, i don't have any of these problems so far, i bought mine january
This has happened to me a few times where a soft reset worked and once where it didn't (lost all data). Each time it was first thing in the morning and my alarm didn't work. That was on 1.48, since going 1.66 I haven't had either problem occur and it's been almost a month.
J
Which PIN is this? The phone lock or the SIM PIN?
If it's the phone lock, can it be disabled by de-selecting it. This would be a horrible thing to happen if it couldn't be disabled.
i had a big problem with my HD2, I was in the bath and I dropped it of course it got wet but now that blasted crappy stock htc software thingy won't even switch on.....
Next time i'll flash a cooked rom.
Hi, guess what, two weeks ago I got a new phone, the famous HTC HD2 (leo). I was so proud, I had read so many good reviews about this phone, and I just loved it. Played with the phone night and day, but then it started. The second weekend I had it. I sent four texts (yeah, I have no friends) I was thinking they arrived but (hence I don't have any friends) I thought they didn't answer. But on friday (05.03.2010), my brother called me, asking me about the text, I did not understand, but it seems like it waited 1 week to send a text message. Then my friend rang, about the same (but with the text i wrote to him of course), I did not know what to do! Also my brother called me like 1 week ago, i slided the most awesome button to the left, to answer the call, and guess what? The cell froze, guess what it did yesterday too? Yeah, it froze again.
Does every hd2 live its own life? Would it help to hard reset it? (even though I can't seem to find the "erase all" key)
I have other problems with the phone aswell, but can't seem to remember what they were.. hmm...
If some one does not understand what I'm trying to say: My cellphone freezes when answering a call, also won't send texts when I tell it to.
Can anyone help a friend out? I don't know where else to turn than a forum.
Is this the best phone or what!
What ROM do you have on the phone now?
Nothing that you have described seems unresolvable in the least bit. You are in the right place to make your HD2 live up to its reputation, and it certainly is not hard to do.
IF you can provide any details about your current ROM, etc. that would be a good place to start helping you.

upgrade to the latest 1.66 rom
Hm, first of all, how do I check what rom I have. Second how do I upgrade it?
1. Settings (on slide bar)>About Phone>Software information
2. Either from HTC direct or from your vendor
Thanks, "please contact your supplier first before upgrading." Aint got time for that.. Hope this will help
So you're not going to check? Are you in the UK?
Seriously, chances are you're on an old ROM and changing to a newer one will work wonders
yeah, i have the old one, anyway, yeah i had the old one... 1,48.. well its 23:59.. cant call them, + do you have any idea how expensive that is!? and yeah prolly just the copilot nav that gets screwed, and i want that to get away from my menu (start menu)

You don't need to waste a cent, or a second of time calling anyone. The won't help you. They'll tell you to reformat your phone, and the problems you described will return.
You came to the right place for help with these issues. Technical support is typically worthless, as usual. Just take some time to read the info provided here, and in just a short time, you'll be happy with your investment.
Hiya
I bought a Touch HD off ebay which was an orange original unit but was unlocked so I could use any sim in it. However, two weeks into buying it and it started to vibrate as soon as I switched it on. I contacted HTC who replaced the whole of the internal boards and sent it back to me. i got it back this morning and now its asking me for a sim unlock code??? I get a white screen saying the network is locked and a long box in which to put an unlock code.
Is there any way I can re-unlock the phone without putting this code back in or do you think I'm going to have to ask HTC for a code???
thank you very much for any advice given

Well first of all, all Touch HD's vibrate when they are switched on, but I assume you mean it kept doing it and wouldn't stop with yours or something. And secondly I'm sure HTC won't give you an unlock code to re-unlock your phone as you say it is an Orange branded device, but it's worth asking them. If they won't help you then your only options are to take it to a shop to have it unlocked, or do it yourself at home via one of the many unlock websites. You'll have to pay for these options though.
Hiya
thanks for the reply
Ive sussed that it is indeed been relocked back to orange. The have apparently sent me a new replacement phone so I will have to get it unlocked( tried an orange cheepo sim this morning and didnt get the request for a code)
I cant believe I didnt think about it properly but Im that up to my eye balls with assignments and essays for uni my mind has been all over the place this past few weeks LOL
I was wondering if the unlock software from Oilpro might do the trick. Ive priced locally and it means being without the phone for four days and paying......35 quid to unlock it.
Back in the day when I had my SP3100 the software was free but I realise that I havent been a really active member on the forum- mainly because you guys are so damned brainy and I dont feel I have anything to contribute like you do. Give me a camera and I can talk for days( am a tog doing a ba hons degree in photography) but phones and techy stuff about roms....well, Im at a loss. Maybe thats a course I should take next LOL
anyway, thank you for the reply. Much appreciated.
I'll try to find somewhere to get the unlock software at a reasonable price.

forgot to say that it did indeed vibrate all the time when switched on( and got damned hot too) but that has now been sorted with a new phone.....
I did the OliPro way and it was easy to do. One of the cheapest options too I think.
Just tried to buy the unlock software from oliopro's site and tried to use paypal and it wont let me pay via that method. Its asking me to create an account and give my credit card details...
I'm not willing to give any details like that ATM and my money is tied up in a paypal account too.
If Oliopro is reading this any help gratefully received.

Hello.
I beg for someone help us in this big mistake caused by inexperience:
I have just already married with my girlfriend (now my wife) and she made all the photos and videos of our wedding and family with her brand new LG G6 H870 (European model) three days ago.
She was using her fingerprint to unlock the phone all the times with no problem but by mistake we entered more than 5 times a wrong password and now the fingerprint unlock is not active and she doesn't remember which password she used with the phone. Therefore we have all of our memories inside it but we cannot recover them.
Please could anyone help us with this life-breaking mistake? We both are very very very sad about this, and even more problems will happen to us as a result of this...whatsapp receiving mote data that also will be lost, not using the phone SIM in another device to avoid losing the data in Whatsapp...
The resume of the situation is:
- She has her fingerprint ok inside the phone but the phone don't ler her use it to unlock and although the fingerprint is ok, instead the phone asks for the password that she forgot.
- We have our Google account ok configured into the phone but the Android Device Manager doesn't let us change the password to a new one remotely because Android Device Manager only permits that when no password existed before.
- I am technically skilled enough to understand advanced operations and steps on the device (recovery, ADB, writing command lines on a terminal...) but I have no experience at all in a situation like this and I am really scared of erasing or loosing this memories...
Please we would be grateful if someone could help us in this situation.
Thank you in advance.
You can marry another time....
:silly:
This makes no sense? If fingerprint worked, why were you entering passwords? Again, if there was no password, why are you entering one? Why not just reboot the phone and use the fingerprint?
There's something odd going on you're not telling us...

Rebooting the phone also then requires the password to unlock. LG does tell you "if you forget your password, your local data will be lost forever" owtte. So... Don't forget it. They weren't joking.

Thank you MDW 100 for the answer.
My wife is not a computer's engineer and as the password asked by the phone appears with a full keyboard (and not a numerical one as she thinks the password is only with numbers) I guess that four days ago, the day before the wedding (tradition implies not seeing the bride the day before the marriage) she configured her brand new mobile alone and probably she wrote something thinking it was another field different than a password...
I know what implies the kind of mistake I am telling.
The reason why I am writing here is because I know that nobody would help us officially to recover our memories, nor LG nor Google will...(we tried so...) and XDA members are well known for their technical skills, surpassing almost all the fences and barriers...
We have our purchase bill, our configured Google account (user and password) and my wife's fingerprint into the mobile and she never thought that things were so complicated and unflexible...
I thought that maybe somebody from XDA, as the best forum for mobiles in the world I thought it is, would be able to show that in this forum the word "impossible" is not a fact but only an opinion...
Is it really impossible to recover our memories?
Thank you in advance.

Sorry for not really being helpful, but I have no further suggestions. Then again I'm not an android dev so there's probably still hope ?
I hope you get your data back...
Thank you MDW 100.
Should I put this topic in another section like developers...?
Look for companies in your area doing mobile data recovery. Their service isn't cheap, but your wedding memories are worth it.
