Hi, guess what, two weeks ago I got a new phone, the famous HTC HD2 (leo). I was so proud, I had read so many good reviews about this phone, and I just loved it. Played with the phone night and day, but then it started. The second weekend I had it. I sent four texts (yeah, I have no friends) I was thinking they arrived but (hence I don't have any friends) I thought they didn't answer. But on friday (05.03.2010), my brother called me, asking me about the text, I did not understand, but it seems like it waited 1 week to send a text message. Then my friend rang, about the same (but with the text i wrote to him of course), I did not know what to do! Also my brother called me like 1 week ago, i slided the most awesome button to the left, to answer the call, and guess what? The cell froze, guess what it did yesterday too? Yeah, it froze again.
Does every hd2 live its own life? Would it help to hard reset it? (even though I can't seem to find the "erase all" key)
I have other problems with the phone aswell, but can't seem to remember what they were.. hmm...
If some one does not understand what I'm trying to say: My cellphone freezes when answering a call, also won't send texts when I tell it to.
Can anyone help a friend out? I don't know where else to turn than a forum.
Is this the best phone or what!
What ROM do you have on the phone now?
Nothing that you have described seems unresolvable in the least bit. You are in the right place to make your HD2 live up to its reputation, and it certainly is not hard to do.
IF you can provide any details about your current ROM, etc. that would be a good place to start helping you.

upgrade to the latest 1.66 rom
Hm, first of all, how do I check what rom I have. Second how do I upgrade it?
1. Settings (on slide bar)>About Phone>Software information
2. Either from HTC direct or from your vendor
Thanks, "please contact your supplier first before upgrading." Aint got time for that.. Hope this will help
So you're not going to check? Are you in the UK?
Seriously, chances are you're on an old ROM and changing to a newer one will work wonders
yeah, i have the old one, anyway, yeah i had the old one... 1,48.. well its 23:59.. cant call them, + do you have any idea how expensive that is!? and yeah prolly just the copilot nav that gets screwed, and i want that to get away from my menu (start menu)

You don't need to waste a cent, or a second of time calling anyone. The won't help you. They'll tell you to reformat your phone, and the problems you described will return.
You came to the right place for help with these issues. Technical support is typically worthless, as usual. Just take some time to read the info provided here, and in just a short time, you'll be happy with your investment.

Hi all,
After spending 2 days with my vario my dreams of a half-decent smartphone are shattered.
I've got a C500 which hasnt really caused me any problems in over a year, now 2 days after having a vario i'm almost pulling my hair out.. can this phone possibly have been released in such a bad state or is it just mine?
For starters it crashes, not now and then, but like it's a hobby of the vario's, i dont think i can leave it for an hour, come back and find it hasn't hung in some form.
Sometimes i have to do a soft reset, sometimes, i can press the power button, get the screen to light up but can't do anything. Sometimes I get icons but when I click them i'm told the shortcut doesnt exist.
Ooh another thing it seems to like doing is randomly going into flight mode, and one really good crash was when i called it and the source phone could hear the ringing but the vario was just sitting there doing nothing.
So is it just mine or is this the most unstable phone the UK has ever seen? Is it worth me asking for a replacement, or just flashing the k-jam/qtek rom over the t-mobile one? Is there a way to backup my t-mobile rom and flash it back should i find the qtek/kjam rom does the same?
I've tried hard-resetting then cancelling all the t-mobile gubbins that loads from extended rom, but that didnt make any diference.
Any advice gratefully appreciated
Thanks
Personally, I'd say get T-Mobile to replace it! Unless you've installed a buggy piece of 3rd party software (but if you did, you wouldn't on here complaining about the phone you'd be complaining about the software, right?).
I also have an MDA Vario. I haven't touched the Extended_ROM (was going to, had a look and decided it was running fine so don't mess with it).
It's solid as a rock. As per a thread on howardforums asking how many times per day have I soft-resetted the phone and my answer was an average of zero.
I hard reset it on the day I bought it (after installing GPRS Monitor which knackers the backlight turning back on after sleep) and took the battery out after T-Mobile decided to disconnect me from their network (at their support line's request).
Anyway, it's on 24/7, never needs a reset of any kind, gets mobile emails via ActiveSync and is generally a wonderful piece of kit!
List what apps you've installed (even if they're T-Mobile supplied ones from CD) since buying the phone as there may be something buggy there. If not, definitely get T-mobile to replace it as it's certainly not a crap model (mine is absolutely fantastic).
Thanks Andy,
I've literally not installed anything, i'm just about to install pocketcommander but that will be the first thing i've actually installed. I've hard reset the phone this morning and it's already hung once on me (
I'll give tmob a call and see if they can send me another out today or something
Yeah, then you've definitely got a knackered phone. They should replace it (how long have you had it) without problems.
Hope you enjoy the replacement, they really are a great bit of kit
Well just had my first ever dealings with tmobile supoprt and it's as bad as the phone
They say because my contract/phone is only 3 days old i need to go back to the people i bought the phone off to get a replacement, problem is they'l want me to send the whole boxed thing uip and all the box etc is at home since i work away during the week
That's got to be faulty, like others have said.
WHen I bought mine, (T-Mobile shop in Leeds), I was told that if it was faulty within the first 28 days, there'd be a straight replacement issued immediately.
Don't accept anything less.
For what it's worth, I always try to be exceptionally pleasant when returning things rather than going in "all guns blazing"; it gets results a lot more often than the "I know my rights" approach. Of course, when it all comes down to it, the "i know my rights" approach might be necessary, but hopefully it shouldn't be.
The phone is superb, so stick with it even tho it is a bit of hassle for you.
good luck!
hi there no problems with my vario either. seems to work fine. no soft/ hard resets needed so far. have had it for 10 days. only thing is after the xteended rom instals there is a file called canned text in words which opens up in a crazy language. does not go on hard resets. but does not cause a problem either. any ideas on what this file is. have othar vario users noticed this file. please help.

may not be relevant to your problem, but if skype is installed on yours from the hard reset install, it may be worth removing, on the k-jam as soon as i removed skype, reseting stopped happening
OK, I know that may look like a dumb question (and maybe it is!!!)
I have just unlocked my Vario 2 using the "Pof" method with both Sim and SuperCID.
Problem is, my phone needs to be sent back (long story - but basically I am getting a replacement Vario 3). Now obviously I am concerned they will tell me "sorry youve been playing with your phone sonny - its no longer under warrenty", so need to get it back to factory settings if I can.
I appreciate a hard reset will basically wipe any files I have, contacts and settings etc, but will this remove the unlocks that have been done? ie It really does go back to factory settings - or do these unlocks stay on there?
I have been searching the forum and WIKI, but not found the solution. I did think I would need to install a T-Mobile Rom - but all I could find was a hungarian version - which whilst in English, would probably look worse than as I currently have it!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT:
For the record, if it makes any difference:
ROM Version 1.21.110.3
Rom Date 06/19/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Herm300 IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.0lipro
a hard reset simply formats the internal drive on the phone and resets it to the factory settings.
generally t mobile wont bother looking at things like that, i unlocked my vario, dropped it, it smashed, they just replaced it after trying to repair it.
A few people have flashed new roms and bricked it, sent it back, tmobile are none the wiser, they are probably unaware people to this to their handsets!
we are all just stupid customers as far as they are concerned!
personally i wouldnt worry about it!

OK thanks for that. So I assume a hard reset will not over write anything regarding the bootloader radio change and unlocks? I appreciated that it resets the OS - hence the question.
I agree that they probably wouldnt in most cases look into the phone and check, but they have put a note on my account about "charging if not found faulty".
The problem I have been getting is missing calls - even if I am in a strong signal area. I actually work at Waterloo Railway station - and I would doubt too many places would get a better signal! An incoming call is made, my phone doesnt ring and the caller gets a single ring, then nothing. From what I can now gather, this may be to do with the cell shaking hands but not really being connected. ie the phone/cell are duping each other. This appears to be a 3G issue (so is probably likely to still be there on exchange.) Now the silly thing I have noticed; the phone seemed fine until I got web'n'walk put back on and the problem happens once I have been online. Strangely at the moment, I dont think the problem is persisiting (ie Im not aware of missing calls - though of course thats difficult to quantify unless someone tells me!)
Anyway - I have a feeling they will be looking more into this phone as this replacement will be my 5th! (The previous had similar problems with calls being made or incoming that would just fall over before being answered and the signal being completely lost when it was happening. Slightly different this time - but sound related!)
So will there be a way to put it back to being locked and the correct bootloader etc being shown?
Many thanks
I had the same problem with rejected and dropped calls, tmobile couldnt care less from what i learned or are unaware of the problem! try this
1. lock the phone to gsm only (this solved it pretty much straight away)
2) remove the voicemail from your account
3) If you are using gprs data, you will rarely get a phone call through, and by using it i mean looking at web pages or having programs update in the background.
Downgrading the bootloader is way above my head so i wouldnt like to advise.
As regard to relocking the phone to the network, i dont think thats possible, in any event, why would they check the simlock if the phone is having problems with calls!
If its your fifth handset, you should be looking at changing the model at least because thats ridiculous.
It sounds like a network issue rather than a handset problem!

Yeh, the problems on this phone didnt start until I began using the net again. They did suggest switching off 3G, but since I bought the phone specifically on the promise of a fast connection and HSPDA speeds, that really is an unacceptable solution! I appreciate that signal varies etc - but if a central location where I work isnt good enough, then T-Mobile really shouldnt be advertising themselves as a 3G network!
As it happens, voicemail was switched off on the account. It got put back on again a week ago - and sods law - things now seem to be working, though internet speeds are still very slow.

When I phoned, I was just looking to get a repair, but it was them that offered a Vario 3 which I accepted. It was agreed for them to be sending the set to me (last Thursday) but all that arrived was a grey bag to send my old one back. I spoke with them at great length again last night and suggested a straight courier swap so I wasn't without a phone. They went through to their repair department, who have now flatly refused the phone change - despite it being agreed already!
Anyway I spoke to another manager who went through my "book" of notes and quoted the sale of goods act and merchandisable quality thing and he has agreed they really have to address this. He is phoning me back today and he did come across as helpful and reasonable. (The second one in 2 weeks - must be a record!!!)
I do agree though, that this issue is likely to be the network and not the phone. I would really love to use O2 as at work and home I get 100% coverage and never had any problems at all - but I ain't paying their data rates! Maybe 3 will be ok - but again, when I had them a few years back, at home they were dire so never bothered again. But one thing is pretty certain, in 5 months time, T-Mobile will be history unless they make amends in a big way and these problems become non existant.
Thanks for your help..... its appreciated.
I've been happy to look past most issues, knowing that a fix is on the way.. however, I'm not that happy right now.
I left my phone upstairs whilst I've been down here in the front room - and suddenly got an MSN from my friend asking why I called them and didn't say anything....
So just gone upstairs to investigate and found it's been randomly dialing people in my phone book
Even worse, I'm on vacation in the UK now, so most of my contacts are Taiwanese - meaning £1 a minute... it only stopped doing it as it's used up all my credit
The phone was just sitting on a desk. Locked. Nothing touching the screen or anything...

Wow that sucks! Are you using a custom or the stock rom/radio? Have you contacted HTC's support?
that certainly sounds bad!!
the only thing I had that was slightly similar was that when I firsts got the phone, I HATED it because the screen was too sensitive. I had sat and watched random 'ghost' screen presses that had resulted in a text to someone, various programs being opened etc.
luckily, I have installed some screen fix cabs and don't suffer any more but it was certinaly freaky to watch
Belive me or not, the exact same thing happend to me today! And that wasnt the first time.. Ive never mentioned that because I thought it was accidentaly. My bro came today, asking what I wanted.. I hat no clue what he meant. He showed me a call from me at a time, I wasnt at home and havent got my phone with me! It was still left in my room charging.
The number WAS dialed and there was a sms from my bro asking what I want.
A few days ago I got a sms from my other brother asking my why I called him. There was indeed a outgoing call noticed in history, but I never called him.
So I think if more people have this, its realy a bug. My brother said, it was a very short ringtime, not enough to answer the call.
My ROM is 1.48 HTC orginal German
Stock 1.48 Singapore rom.
Actually, thinking about it, last night the screen did keep lighting up randomly (as in when it should have just stayed off).
Thing is though, the phone was locked. And I doubt the sensitive screen issue could randomly do the swipe. Lol.
Will email HTC now.
I'm on the stock 1.48 rom and mine has never done this. Worrying though.
Would be an absolute disaster if my business clients started getting random calls off my phone without me knowing about it.
Do keep us posted on this one.
WB
Ok just noticed the screen wasn't locking - I'd forgotton the first time you turn on the phone you need to manually lock it (another bug they haven't fixed yet) - so it could be down to this over sensitive screen issue.
Making sure it's auto locking would then solve that.
Maybe a fly landed on it or something!
Just before I read this thread, I read this article on BBC news. I am not saying that is the cause of any of your phones auto dialing, but it is still something to think about.

Haha - my gf was one of the people it called!
The phone sees dead people (scary)
While talking about the phone doing stuff.. on its own.
I ve seen it happen. i had it nex to me on the desk.
Suddely the phone came on and it was browsing and moving.
Ive installed the latest rom update from HTC and the CAB to reduce the sense of the touchscreen.
Ive been told that the HD2 has this hyper responsive touch screen and it would even react to the smallest things.
I think it would be wise to hard reset your phone and leave it clean, see what happens. Then start installing applications, must be an application thats gone horribly wrong.
Sounds like a bug to me...
Did you check the room for big hairy spiders...?!
Didn't get this ever.
What I do get (almost every time) though, is that I can hear my interlocutor, when he calls me, prior to me picking up the phone (and no, I don't have any psychic abilities!).
P.S.: capacitive screens can are sensible even to grease, so pay lots of attention to that to.
P.P.S.: may I suggest a thick screen protector, like the ones from Zagg. You should definitely take a look!
I'm pretty sure it's just ghosts, are you staying at a haunted house in the UK?

I'm pretty sure what you are seeing here is the non pressed key bug, but its happened over a contact, so instead of pressing a random key, its dialed the contact. I've had the same thing happen. My Device has been confirmed as faulty by HTC. Just a thought guys.
See this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595655
Thanks, installed the ghost key fix Was never aware that I need this because my phone is "nearly" accurate in typing.
Will have a close eye on my phone for the next days.
Grr - this takes the biscuit now. I installed the touchscreen sensitivity fix some time ago, but just got woken up by music from my phone - turned out it had called Thai Airways booking line and was on hold ... thats another 22 minutes of international calls ....
Maybe a trojan horse?

That's interesting. That implies data is being sent to your phone by your telco before you pick it up and your phone is quite happy to put it through the speaker while it's still ringing.
So, unfortunately on my way to work this morning at 5:30 am, while on the train my phone was grabbed out of my hand by a teenage boy and then her ran off the train ):
All i was doing was silencing the alarm, he timed it perfectly. SMDH
Well, i spent all AM calling toll free # to toll free #. T-Mobile/Microsoft/HTC.
What i do not understand is how NONE OF THEM were able to track the phone for numerous reasons (allegedly)
Esp. since i was unable to do it via. the Microsoft my phone website.
Also, what is the point of having to report it stolen and file a police report for the claim when I still have to pay the same thing I would if i was neglectful and lost/broke it....?
Oh sry one more question, why isnt the memory card covered if it came inside the phone?
That sucks! It sounds like the kid knew to pull the battery as soon as he got out of sight.
If he's smart, he'll probably leave the battery out for a few days, or only boot up the phone once in the early morning.
Without the battery to power the GPS, the different recovery methods won't work.
If the kid also flashes a new ROM right away, then myPhone will never find it. Not sure about HTC's method, which may include using the unique ID.
There's a cab floating around here somewhere which will email you if someone switches SIM cards on your phone, or if you send your number a special text. This only works if they don't flash a new ROM first though. And it's a little late for you

Memory cards are an accessory and those are never covered
On the flip side of that, when your new phone arrives, it could very well have a new card in it anyway. Especially if they are loading them at the factory before packaging.
its no good to you now, but remotetracker can survive a hard reset if the sd card doesn't change, or be cooked in with your settings permanently, and it can cope with sim card being changed.
it also allows you to lock up the phone, wipe the card, show message on screen, get call and txt details, get location on cells when gps can't, recover any files you like, via email or even ftp. loads more, amazing piece of free software.
I wish i would have knew all of that ):
I havent even had this phone for a full month yet.

well he's still using your number right...? you said you were able to call and talk to him, so the phone won't know what his number is. However, I'd put money down on the fact that the very first number he called when he got the phone, was his own, so he could get your number off his phone's incoming call. Call the very first number that appears in your t-mobile call logs as happening after he stole it, and I'll bet the same guy (him) answers as when you called your number.
Either way, I would follow samsamuel's suggestion and start putting pressure on every single person in his contact list, or even put a post up on craigslist addressed "to everybody on this a$$hole's contact list, he stole my phone"...and post every single name in there, and whatever choice commentary you feel would help flush him out
Shoot, start posting every single one of his text messages online....especially the most private or embarassing ones for he and his friends. Watch his messaging activity too and I'm sure you'll spot and e-mail address or facebook/myspace account name, something you can use to smack him in the face with info....you may not know who he is, but you certainly have access to enough info about him to make him regret it.
I'm guessing at this point he still has no idea that you can see all that about him, so use your advantage here wisely....

That was yesterday. Afterward i suspended my acct and he must have sold it to or gave it to a female b/c she is in the pictures and by the text language I can tell its a girl...
So as of ystrday after I cut the service off, the sim card has been changed to hers but TMO wont help smh.
But you gave me a great idea. i know 9/10 i wont receive my phone back but i can make the person with it extremely annoyed *runs to craigslist* LOL
TMOBILE should really think about using some of the features Sprint/Nextel and others use....

Ahhh gotcha. Ok well yeah then I think the best you can do is just be very crafty with how you use what you can see. I still feel confident that they have no idea that myphone is doing it's thing, so just don't tip that hand too soon I know I'd have a bit of perverse fun coming up with ways to take advantage of all that!
It's interesting that myphone still updates to your same account even with a new sim/number....I guess it makes sense, since you log into an msn account to use it, and it probably only cares what data there is to back up, not what phone number or carrier account it's tied to.
Even though the myphone site won't tell you where it is, do any of the other "now what?" (premium) services show as possible? It says you can wipe the phone remotely if they work, but you may lose the insight myphone is giving you for now. But, it may become the final option at some point
EDIT: I guarantee you that T-mobile has the ability to do more to locate the phone....but without a supoena in your hand, you may never benefit from that
if u use mircosoft myphone u can lock ur phone and locate it

Hi,
I have recently purchased my HD2 and its been a couple of months now since I'm utilizing it. Barely exploring my phone features, it hangs 20 times in view of the following encountered predicaments :-
1) Receiving 2 simultaneous SMS
2) Receiving an MMS
3) Pressing on any of the keys on the phone whenever receiving an SMS
Well, the list goes on and on. So, in resolving this issue, SIS (Malaysia) had agreed to change a new phone for me. And so they did. Tested it on the spot and everything was working fine, but just after a few days later, the problem reoccur itself again. This time, the entire phone hangs up. No keys can be activated, neither the phone can be turned on.
Firstly, its a brand new phone, so this kinda problem should not arise. Secondly, its no doubt troublesome to flip the back cover and press the tiny red button to perform a soft reset. Why in the darn first place the soft reset button isn't placed outside ? (just liky my old TYTN II)
So I have read a couple of forums with regards to this matter and came upon two conclusions in the end. One, the Manila.exe is the main culprit towards the hanging of the device and two, the HTC Sense application program has a flaw in between. Well, there's a temporary workaround though (that is if you do not want to flip the back cover over and over again), which is to leave the phone idle for 48 hours, let the battery drain itself off and then recharge back the phone again.
48 hours is a long time to wait though, and as a professional worker in my line of work, I really do not have that much of an ample time to linger around waiting for it to run out of juice. I'm totally very much dissapointed with the purchasement of the HTC HD2 as not only the technicians at the SIS (Malaysia) could not get to reproduce my predicaments, they cant even get to solve the hanging issue which I'd reckon, that's what I've been spending most of my time on my new phone (rather than to explore what is has to offer)
Is there a work around to the HTC Sense / Manila.exe problem ? Other suggestions would be to turn off the HTC Sense, but you know what ? Turning off the HTC Sense will be something like buying an Aston and driving it at 40kpmh all the way till the south of France !!! The phone's interface will be dull, and not to mentioned, it will be more a less pictured like my old TYTN II
I do not really have such problems for the HTC TYTN II though, not even one hang moment. Please XDA developers / experts, I'm indeed begging for a solution in resolving this reoccuring problem that somehow not only it will tarnish the brand HTC, it will also loose faith of the end consumers in the market.
why don't you ask SIS to change the phone again?
Just want to say one thing ... "Stock ROM's Suck" , hate to be that blunt but the stock ROMs they put on this beautiful hardware just seem to be time bombs, waiting to explode when you get them home ...
Should flash that sucker!!

Well, that was my last resort to them, in order to solve it once and for all. I've been travelling to SIS to and fro for 4 times and yet the problem is still left unresolved. They've even tested it in their environment and it works fine (for the 1st two visits). But somehow, they manage to simulate the issue and they replaced the chipboard.
Now, replacing the chipboard was to the previous original phone, though even after the replacement, it still didnt solve the problem. So ding dong here and there, and after several "consultations" with their higher level managment, they agreed to change a new phone for me, off the hook (not undergoing formal procedures, whereby I'll have to wait for another two weeks)
So, getting a brand new phone I'd reckon my miseries will be resolved, but then the hanging problem reoccur itself today again. It seems that the HTC Sense is the main culprit though, after reading a few forums off the Net. And for a "premanent" solution (that is if HTC does not come out with any ROM / fixes / enchancements), I've gotta turn off the HTC Sense feature.
Well, buying a phone that cost 2K plus had already put a large damage in my wallet, now having to face this consequences after the purchasement is a real icing on the cake. What do you think ? If you're in my shoes, what would you do ?

I totally couldnt agree with you more. In my view, they should just have throw the Win OS away and put in the Andriod version of it. Its always windows version mobile phones that are giving the most headache to me when it comes to utilizing it.

Have you tried getting a new SIM? Sounds like the problem only happens when its talking to the network, and as you've had 2 handsets, i'd give a SIM change a go.
On the plus side........... at least you get 48hrs battery life.......
Not much use though if your phone doesnt work I suppose.....

Well, my SIM's working perfectly fine though, it does not give me any form of problem with my old TYTN II neither with other HTC devices I've checked with a few friends of mine. I do really suspect its the Sense that's the real culprit in the hanging of the device. Just really hope that they clear up this predicament with a new release of the ROM

haha, forty eight hours of baterry life ? well, I wouldn't bet on it. Have tried using it extensively and even before it reaches sunset, the battery is out. And guess what ? It's a brand new battery.
The phone's terrific, but sadly, the battery isnt. Its just like you are viewing a beautiful girl from bottom up till the next and the next thing you know it, viewing her face just makes you wanna vomit over and over again
So that's how I could sum up the HD2 as a whole. Most comparison commentators out there did place the HD2 side by side with the IPhone 3Gs. Both eventually also will end up running out of juice in 48 hours when you're performing your day to day call basis

The HTC Support and Releases still does not solve the problem, mate. Its something that HTC R&D as well as the QA team needs to sit down and extensively test the entire device from bottoms up till all forms of problem is resolved thereafter.
