Hi, long time lurker first time poster here. first of all thank you to everyone here for such a fantastic website, i have been flashing roms on my wizard and then xperia x1 for a long time, and the collection of apps ad tweaks here makes windows mobile perform like it should!
i am now onto a leo and its fantastic. i havent found the need to flash a rom yet, but i was wondering if anyone can help me with a slight niggle i have. when i set a pin for my unlock screen, HTC seem to have replaced the original microsoft pin entry screen with a horrible silver version. i much prefer the rounded semi transparent buttons that i assume is the default for windows mobile 6.5. if anyone has a cab or tweak they can advise, it would be much appreciated.
tl;dr : anyone know how to revert from the HTC pin unlock screen to the original?
thanks for your time.
I don`t know if that is possible, or if there actually is an original and a modified version of the unlock screen, but if yours works, then I strongly advise you to let it be just the way it is, because I have heard lots and lots of people complaining that their device simply won`t accept the PIN they set up.
As the saying goes, "don`t fix what`s not broken"...
Thanks for the reply, i am aware of the issue with the device forgetting the pin and appreciate the warning, but AFAIK the unlock screen displayed wouldnt influence this, and a stock microsoft unlock scren is less prone to issues over a HTC one IMHO. i could easily be wrong though.
does the HTC unlock screen feature in cooked ROMs?
Yes, I currently use a cooked ROM and the unlock screen is the same with the one featured in stock ROMs... I haven`t seen or heard of any ROM which changes this screen, but I may be wrong...
I agree with you, HTC does seem to have serious problems regarding the software part... After the SMS issue and the pink camera stain, the PIN problem is the one encountered most frequently. What a shame...
agreed, in addition to being un aesthetically pleasing, i fear locking my phone and being unable to unlock it!
the only reason i ask is that i saw the original lock screen on a ROM i flashed my XPERIA with. i may try and find it, and PM whoever created the ROM.
if this fixes the locking issues it would be great
Please share any results of your search, I`m sure lots of people will thank you for your info.
I am using a HD2 and I observed that the inability to unlock the screen may be due to "shifted" touch, may be because of the G-sensor. For example, if you touch 9 on the Windows Classic unlock screen, you may notice that 7 is being touched instead. Pressing menu may activate unlock instead. Leave the machine off for a few minutes, you are likely able to retry and works.

My sister in law gave me an Att 8525. I want to put it up on ebay but I'm not sure what to ask for it. Let me list whats wrong and any help would be great.
1) When she handed it to me it wouldn't boot. I have to push the ok and power buttons while pressing the stylus into the reset hole.
2) Screen is out of alignment. The screen has a white bar that takes up about a 1/4" of the left side
3) Minor scratches on the case and screen. I'm very picky and I think they're minor.
4) It seems to run sluggishly even after restoring the factory settings.
Or do you think it would be worth it to replace the screen and flash it? Or would flashing the rom correct my screen issues?
I have an HTC Atlas and I'm on T Mobile. are there any real differences with flashing an Atlas and the 8525?
Unless someone wants for spare parts you may be dissapointed in the price or the responses as is. I wouldn't buy a Hermes (or any thing) that has a list of problems like that.
Screen problem is a MAJOR issue.
If you try to flash a new rom make sure that you flash Hard SPL 1st but try a Hard reset 1st. Hold in both softkeys and reset with stylus, that should allow you to reset to factory and reload the existing rom. Then, if you want, flash a cooked rom, preferably WM6.1, as that may make it more enticing to buyers.
Also check to see if the Hermes has bad blocks as this may be the problem with the instability and sluggishness. You should know about the "search" function available here...
Hope this helps...
Cheers...
Thanks Ultra... I didn't expect to get rich off the phone. LOL
I've done the resets and reinstalled the original rom and the screen is still the same. Figure I'll just slap it up on ebay with no reserve as is for parts.
I've been searching theses forums since I got my Atlas and there is no greater resource than XDA for info. Thanks to you and everyone here for all the knowledge I've gotten thus far. Hopefully I'll get good enough to post info here someday instead of just asking questions.
Hi everyone,
My phone has been flashed with 2 different roms in the last 48 hours; the reason for this is the lock screen keeps locking me out!
I try something new each time this happens because I spend hours or even days modifying it to my taste!
Can someone please explain why it keeps locking me out and also how to prevent it! and before someone says "Don’t have a passcode" then that is simply not an option!
Also if someone knows a way around this so I can simply change the passcode without having to hard reset then please tells me! this would have been the second time in 48 hours Iv lost data and this has happened about 6 times since I have had the phone from November
Cheers,
Does it say incorrect pin? or just hangs?
incorrect pin! and its the right pin!
and then if I soft reset and try and enter it then it says incorrect pin but if I then type something else in it hangs!
Ive had the same problem with the stock rom. I use Artemis HD2 v9.0 in the rom section. Hes bringing out V10 tomorrow might be worth putting that on. Ive not had that problem since.
seen that reported a lot in conjunction with swype 3.9 on non tmous phones

Havn't got swype and never had it, I read its a bug with 6.5 and 6.5.3 fixes it but I dont like 6.5.3 so im in a catch 22 situation.
Im assuming you guys didnt find away around it or hear from anyone who had then?
I don't know if this is related but my phone keeps frezzing in the lock screen. It happens twice each day and I need to remove the battery to get my phone working again. I have tried several roms and several radios and it happens before to place any extra program (done hard reset etc)
It was not happening with the stock rom. I guess that perhaps it is a problem of the HSPL2? I don't see anything else that has a common link.
well, I used to have a pin lock on my ipaq, now with this hd2 I've become fearless, and have no phone/sim pin enabled at all.
Anyway, as far as I know the PIN lock on the hd2 has been reported way too often to be defective, as in it "forgets" the code, so after N unlocks, you'll have a device that will never recognize your -correct- pin, requiring a hard reset.

so could it be something in the registry?
I know its a long shot but registry normally has control for things like expiry and load counts
I think I have gathered more information about this problem and I have created a separate thread describing what the problem may be, please go here to understand what im on about.
More info: Phone is going into a read only like state!
I have had this too a few times. I had to remove the battery to have it fixed, because the phone didn't switch off.
Just in case anyone is reading this that could help, i am trying to get a cab that will revert the HD2 back to the stock windows mobile unlock screen for the pin input. the HTC one seems to have a few issues, and i prefer the stock windows one.

emergency...
after installing the american android latest build, my touch screen has become unresponsive. i can boot up fine and see the lock screes but my inputs are not being read. i dual boot wp7 and my worst nightmare came true because it al the same on wp7, which makes me thing it has to be a coincidental hardware issue.
could this be a software issue, even though it is happening on two different OS?
Is anyone familiar with this and what would be my best next step?
Is there anyway to get my text messages that would be coming in today while my phone is off? i dont even want to boot up since then i will receive these messages and not be able to read them, thus losing them.
help and thanks ,
jason

Hi Jason,
I have the same issue with my HD2! I did all the tip I can find online but no luck .
I did try to change my Android ROM many of time. Installed W7 and still no good. Install HD2 Stock ROM still behave the same.
Still looking for a solution!!
I think it's tied to the end call button I lose touch every time I hit it in both android and winmo locking and unlocking repeatedly will temp fix as long as I don't use the end button a fix would be great
Hey everyone, recently my hd2 touch screen stopped working, I'm not sure why it stopped responding but it will only respond by the physical buttons. The only thing I can do with it is turn it on and put it into sleep and or turn it on to the lock screen. I currently have android on it.
I searched around and found out that alot of people had the same problem as me and the only way to fix it is by sending it to HTC so they can replace the faulty screen. Now I'm going to try that but before I send it in I want to reset the phone back to original settings with WM 6.5 and remove the SPL. The problem is I am not sure how to do it, so can anyone let me know how I can do all that or point me in the right direction?
Appreciate the help
I had the exact same issue. I reset the phone multiple times and tried different roms from stock to modded, android to winMo 6.5 with no success. Your luck might be different, but the only way I was able to get my HD2's screen running properly was to have the digitizer replaced. I know it sucks, but at least you're not the 1st to deal with it.

The right direction would be the search button. Just look for "Remove HSPL", "Uninstall HSPL" and you'll find plenty of results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623402
and you'll probably need this thread too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
One warning: please check whether you need a EU or TMOUS ROM before proceeding... Wrong ROM could brick your device, making things probably worse than they are...
Sincerely,
Mac
Awesome, another HD2 screen not working topic. We was seriously running low on these, Its not as if there wasn't enough or answer wasnt available already a million times over or we would have been in real trouble.
Hey guys...not sure if anyone still use this phone lol
My phone has been acting up. When I want to unlock the screen it won't let me drag the screen at all, even during usage the windows button/back button is not responsive.
Now some of the keyboard keys don't even respond.
Anyone know what to do about this at all??
Thanks for any help!

It could be a bug associated with touch driver version, you could try loading a new rom or update the version you already have, you will need to read a bit before hand but once you get into it it really is easy, it depends which details you find in the tri-color screen and if you are ready to get HSPL or if you need to downgrade first and install custom rom etc. !!
if this doesn't help then it is probably in need of a replacement touch screen but knowing HTC never guaranteed to be perfect and bug free on a new screen, if you think it is still worth the effort, definitely worth buying 100% original HTC screen as opposed to the chinese crap !!

i am still using this phone among others and has always been a good solid phone for me, just updated with the NWA 7.8 rom which is in the development section, if you aren't worried about the phone anyway, there is no harm in having a go with custom roms !!!!
if you switch off the phone and then hold volume down button while switching on ( don't let go of the volume button ) it will take you to the tricolor screen, you will have written SPL, if you tell me that number, i can then tell you whether it will be the easy method or the slightly more involved method !!!
