SMS Lag issue - HD2 General

Hello all, I am posting this because everyone here is complaning to each other that their SMS doesn't work and they are waiting for someone to do something about it. Well one problem, I just called HTC and they "had no clue that this was an issue with the phone". Well I know I cant be the only one to call but apparently they need more of us to contact them so every tech support person there knows exactly what is wrong with this phone.
Well thats where we all come in... CALL their Tech support at 866.449.8358 and let them know how bad the problem really is. There are enough of us here that we can get them off of their backsides and start figuring this problem out with a real fix.
Please take the 20 minuites it takes to let them know that we will not sit here and deal with our 500 dollar phone not working like it should.

i don't have that problem anymore, IF i use the normal keyboard, i DO HAVE it if i use swype. I have grown accustomed to it as swype is something that i installed thats not put in a stock UK ROM. Once i installed the stock WWE 1.66 rom the sms lag issue with the default keyboard was NO longer there.
I take it your not using swype?
Dan

No swype is even worse on mine. I know this isnt just mine and my girls phone. There are over three pages of seperate threds that state the same problem over and over and HTC acts like my call was the first time they heard about it!

nothing????? This is why it will never get fixed. Unless one of the people here decides to devote their whole week to writing a whole new program!

lag
I have european hd2, using on att edge . I had problems until i started deleting my messages regular. & also set to delete the deleted messages immediately, "recycle bin" I use swype, no problems. Might be just cause I'm not 3g? Don't know?

If they don't know it is because they don't talk within the company, cause I have contacted them several times. They just didn't want to admit the problem. So if not admitting to the problem = not knowing it exists - then yes, maybe they don't know...

HD2 works fine with small number of messages. you need to delete them from inbox and deleted items every few days.

To Quick For Keyboard?

I remember on my Sidekick I was able to type as fast as I want and every letter would type in... But with my Hermes I have to type slow in order for it to type all my letters correctly.. is there anything I can do so I can type fast and it be accurate?
also, i find that sometimes when im typing one key locks in and types that letter alot until i hit delete.. example: "Hey how are youuuuuuuuuuuuu doing" and it locks typing the U until i hit delete.. any way to fix this?
Hi, there isnt really much you can do about it, thats crappy WM behavior, I used to have the exact same thing happen to me.
I am running the lvsw 3.20.2.1 WM6 and hadnt had any of the mentioned problems, actually I had forgotten all about it happening, untill I read this
Im not saying an that flashing a new rom is definitely going to help you, but pretty much all the crappy typing issues dissapeared in this build for me.
Difficult to pin this one down. As Chaoticdruid says it might help to change ROM. I do not get this very often and when I do it's not obvious what the cause is. Ensure of course nothing else is running when typing and a good bit of free space in Main memory. What is clear is that it's NOT routinely slow on all our devices so it will be possible to speed it up one way or another.
The repeating letters issue may have a different cause. If you get repeating letters and the keyboard is generally laggy then the above comments apply. However, if speed is generally good then I think this is the pretty well known issue of physical/hardware issues with the keyboard. This is commonly shown by some letters not working without an extra firm press and as stated repeating letters.
Mike
My opinion
I'm far from knowing what I'm talking about but I have noticed a few things about the problem you are having (happens to me as well).
I do agree that things work faster/smoother when there are no programs running in the background (memory stuff). What has recently helped me was to shut off anything that makes my unit have to think...namely any autocorrect or word suggestion stuff. I had mine suggesting up to four words while I was typing. It seemed my typing was to fast for this process so when I shut it off, it helped speed things up quite a bit! I hope this works for you! It would be nice to feel like I have made some sort of contribution, so many people have been kind enough to help me out on this site.
Just wanna share my test....
I got lazy keys on my Dopod 838 Pro also after upgrading to official Dopod WM6 ROM. At this time I had more than 1500 SMS stored. Since the lazy keys were affecting on SMS/Email writing and not on other apps, I was thinking whether the problem is related somehow to this huge number of stored SMS.
I deleted all my SMS and directly afterwards the keyboard is responsive again.
Can't validate this as I need to wait for my SMS to grow again to see if the lazy keys problem returns... but maybe you can check from yours if you have huge number of stored SMS/email.

I noticed this also, whenever I have 1000+ SMS stored on my phone the typing really slows down to a point where I type a sentence and wait a few seconds for the device to catch up

mass text program?

I am wondering if anyone can make (or has already made?) a program that can be programmed to send the same text, mulitple times, to the same number...
My reason behind wanting this is... A local radio station hasa competition going. Whoever texts "wii" to a number they set up the most, will win a wii. I have already been sending texts like "wii(157spaces)wii(157spaces)" like 8 texts at a time, but I lose out on a lot of valuable text time from when I go to bed at 10pm and when I wake up at 6am... also, when I am not near my phone, I lose out on valuable text time, as well.
Anyone have any suggestions? Comments? I would love to hear them. I have found this forum soo helpful, thus far!
JT
lol just buy one, beats wasting time on sending texts plus these things are usually always rigged so you probabaly wouldnt even win anyway and even when you do get one you would have lost alot of valuable wii playing time.
on the otherhand you could busk for the amount of time you would have spent texting and buy one that way?
hope this helps
Since I had five minutes, I whipped one up.
It needs .Net CF 2.0, and there's a one second wait between sending each message 'cause otherwise WM gets confused!
The first text box is the number, the numeric up/down is the number of messages to send, and the second text box is the body of the message.
Unzip, copy to your device, and run the exe.
Hope that works for you!
BTW, I can't be held responsible if this causes any damage whatsoever, and it may cost you money to send the texts, which I can't be blamed for.
I just have to say, thx for this program!!! I use it on an almost daily basis... When people annoy me with texts, I'll send them 50 texts at once back... And on my little sisters bday I sent her 90 txts saying happy bday and she thought it was hilarious. I am just curious if there is any way to make cut/copy/paste work on this? My only issue is trying to remember peoples phone numbers to paste them in the "to" box... Or is there any way to integrate that box into using the contacts??
Once again, thanks for this program!!! Super super awesome!!!
JT
oh... and is there any way to make it send more than 100 at a time?
(If you have any info on how to write/edit programs, then I'd love to learn so I dont have to ask and can do this myself. I'm not too tech-savvy, but I love to learn lol)

The 100 texts limit is really easy to change, though there is a limit of what an "int" value can contain. I suspect it's far larger than what you'll use!
It's written in C# .Net CF, and I can send you the source code with comments if you want,,,
Anyway, I'll have a look at a contact picker, and upload a new file tomorrow (probably).
Theres an SMS program named SMS Nuke (google it).
It allows you to send up to an infinite number of texts to the same number, and will continue to work even when the screens turned off. It may be better than the above mentioned apps but i dont know, not used those ones.

It's here. I hadn't noticed it before, looks good, and has an "Add Contact" button...
new program called SMS spam was released. been using today works beautifully and has an automatic contact lister, so you can just select the contact you wish to bombard with texts!

Dude I hope you've looked for any extra costs for participating in this contest. If not, you're pretty much screwed probably.
wow.. nice app but, think about losing your phone, someone finds it, and uses this program on it , this program could seriously screw up someonse life
ah well.. just don't lose your phone
i keep my phone on a tight leash! lol

SMS bug - WM6.5

FYI:
HTC have confirmed that there is a bug with WM6.5 that shows that you have an unread message, while you clearly don't.
A fix is being prepared by Microsoft.
Never knew about that...
But knew about alarm ringing alarm and notification sound mixed.... and alarm does not stop... in the morning.
Battery additional info reseted to "0" so no historical info there....
No option to light signal for more that 5 minutes (thank god there is a registry tweak for that).
Well. I'll keep waiting.

I am having exactly the same issue and posted it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579772
Thanks for the update loadstone007...hope both MS and HTC start rolling out fixes for the various bugs in 6.5!

What about the other bugs? Or am I the only one having them:
-Extra blank line between input-box and suggested words-line. Meaning the suggested words-line cross the "send"-button, and when you're picking a word, you accidently push "send".
-TouchFlo/Sense now only shows 160(?) letters in SMS-dialogue. Almost all my sms, in and out, exceed 160, so to read sms now, I have to use the Windows-dialogue(inbox). This was not a problem on WM6.1
-The input box and keyboard overlay the sms-dialogue, so what you see when you write a new text, is NOT the last you recieved, but 2 or 3 messages back in history. The newest ones are hidden behind keyboard, instead of scrolled up.
The weird thing is that these don't seem like bugs, just.. bad construction.

No I dont have these issues, but then again I dont use HTC Sense. Are these Sense related or Windows 6.5 related?

Yea, I'll say it's sense/manila/tf3d, but all the problems occured after the official 6.5 update.
BTW, the one bug, with last SMS's being hidden by keyboard and textbox, is the same in WinMo(inbox). Just check, go to a conversation in your inbox, and whip up the keyboard. The keyboard and text-box takes most of the screen, and what u see above it, is not the last message of the conversation.
They are not bugs, just bad ideas badly implemented i suppose. Yep, the one with send button is driving me crazy

I seem to recall there was a hotfix for this for 6.1, called something like "hotfix for fixing the problem with the extra white line when writing sms"? And still they don't implement the fix in the next version?
Hey guys i got the issue fixed using a little tool to clear the message count. Check this post, and thanks to onthemail:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1519862&postcount=3
Run the program and do a soft reset - wait a couple of seconds and the annoying green message count will disappear. If not, do it all again (run program and soft reset) and it should def work.
Good luck
Cheers

Although I'm not experiencing the exact same problem the topic starter posted, I'm also having a problem with the HTC SMS. When I go to contacts, choose one of my favorites, go to the sms tab and send an sms from there, sometimes the sms doesn't show up in the thread, it just totally disappears from the device. As far as I know the messages are sent to the person, but it's annoying to me to not be able to read back what I wrote.
Anyone familiar with this problem and has a solution for it?
Thanks in advance!
I get quite a few Joke texts sent, but the long ones allways get cut off near the end. Some of them must be 4 or more texts long. I didnt have this problem until i upgraded to win 6.5. I allways miss the punchline is this a known problem and is there a fix or is there i setting i have missed.

It's a bug in WM6.5 unfortunately. You have to go in to Windows messages to see the entire message (as opposed to HTC's sense UI)..it's annoying and i hope HTC come out with a rom update very soon as this is just one of many many bugs and annoying quirks in 6.5. Argh!

While this doesn't address the problems posted inthis thread, I thought that I would just use this existing thread for an FYI. HTC has released a couple of new hotfixes this morning for the Pure and Tilt 2

HD2 Messaging Problems

Hi there Genuis'
Unfortunately I have a problem with my HD2, short and sweet any texts over 160 characters long don't send. I've tried both the 1.48 ROM Upgrade, the 1.66 ROM Upgrade and any other updates HTC have released.
I also sent my phone back (though the engineer only noted down one problem, so I included a sheet with the problems in detail), and HTC out right ignored the sheet.
So I'm asking you, is there any way for this to be fixed, or is it my phone (Radio, etc). I've tried the SIM in another phone (when the phone went back), and I was able to send a 1100 character text (yeah, I know, long hehe).
So is this something in the ROM, do I need to MTTY my phone? And if I do need to MTTY my phone, can I remove Hard SPL after? I don't particularly want my phone to have unofficial software on if it goes wrong again, HTC will charge me big monies, and seeing as I'm 14, my mum would go absolutely mad and with good reason.
Many thanks dudes and dudettes/dudesses.
Jake
grab a registry editor, (I'd recommend ceregistryeditor on the pc)
browse to
hkey local machine/software/jataayu/messaging
check the values in the following two keys march what I have.
Max7BitText 300
MaxUnicodeText 402
hope this helps
Nope
Unfortunately my values don't match, but interestingly enough they are higher, for Max7BitText anyway.
MaxUnicodeText : 402
Max7BitText : 918.
Is this because I'm on a different ROM to you?
Forgive me, I'm more of a Windows Tinkerer than a Windows Mobile Tinkerer eheh.
If I can't get it sorted in an hour I'll have to phone up HTC to get it picked up on Thursday or something.
Thanks again,
Jake
Surely calling the person is quicker than sending a 1100 (!!!) character SMS?? lol...
I've not had any issues but my txts are never longer than one message - if they are I email or call instead...
True but you know...
And my girlfriend's dad got the HD2 too, recommendation from me, and when I went over there 2 weeks or so ago he let me use his, and he's had his since ooh January, and it worked fine.
Oh and sorry I did forget to say, my phone will work fine for a week or so after a ROM Upgrade/Hard reset, then screw itself over again.
Real bloody annoying.
Thanks,
Jake
i have HTC hd2 probelm too!
my hd2 freezes alot and i have to take out the battery to switch it bk on. sometimes the device runs slow aswell, tied using RAM cleaner but still running slow...
any advice guys?

I have the same problem as you do. And I also found those same values in my registry as you did (402, 918).
Happen to be using a Dutch rom? Cause I do. The official latest dutch rom without any other updates (there are none)
how weird. sorry using my hd2. I'm using a HTC stock ROM, 1.66. I might try entering those values and seeing if it makes a difference.
Or maybe we have duff phones, with bad chips? if 500,000 were shipped, just think, not every single one will be perfect.
Who knows hey?
Jake,
i can't send messages with more than 918 characters. thats 6 sms, and i cant send anymore than that at a time.
anyone else got this problem?
That's a registry setting.
Download a registry editor and have a hunt, I have a feeling it is "Max7BitText" setting in HKLM\Software\Jataayu\Messaging.
Change this setting to something higher and you might be able to send more texts.
Could you please tell me if you can send texts over 160 characters?

yes i can send texts with more than 160 characters no problem
I'm a fan of long text messages, so I feel your pain... in fact, my text messages are so long they went back in time and sank the Titanic ; ) I'm on the standard HTC 1.66 WWE ROM, and I don't have the problem. My Max7 and MaxUnicode values are 918 and 402 respectively. Good luck.
what about lagging issues?
hey,
i solved my problem.
really, i rarely send a message with more than 918 characters. 3 or 4 sms at the most.
but i have 2 issues which have, the one above and the lagging.
ive reluctantly installed zenyees disable htc messaging thing. I didnt really want to do this because i really like the interface of the htc sms thing. but enough was enough and ive reverted back to the windows messaging thing. which i was used to from the x1. if you havent used anything other than the htc messaging, then going to windows looks like a step back, its basic. but does the job well. like the saying goes, get the basics right and all else will fall into place.
unfortunately htc havent really got all the basics right here.
Phoned up HTC earlier, spoke to a really nice guy and he's getting my phone in for it's second Repair. Said it could be the antenna or the BIOS, which they will happily check.
Let's hope it goes well this time.
And hmm, I'm a bit reluctant to go back to Windows Mobile Messaging, but I'll try it if this doesn't work.
The guy said that if it doesn't work send it back and they'll push for a replacement phone.
HTC Support = Abso-flipping-lutely great!
HTC sent me an email saying that i cant send sms-es with more than 918 characters and suggested I emailed instead. Which is a valid point but some people dont regularly check their mail so sms is the best option to contact those people....
well another reason not to use the HTC messaging facility.
great when it works, but a carrier pigeon is better when it doesnt.

[Q] Sms sent lag, HELP

Hello all, I have a big issue with this tilt 2 and that is the sms sent and pressing "X" to go back in the inbox of sms messages, it lags for a good 10-20 and sometimes the whole screen would freeze up because of this.
So I recently bought a tilt 2 and the seller told me he flashed it to a new rom which whenever I turn the phone on, it says Energy Rom so does anyone have a solution to this sms sent lag other than deleting all text messages daily, please help!
Thank you all in advance for your time and suggestions!
Sending a TXT isn't instant... it takes a little bit to log in, transmit, and finish sending the TXT message.. that is most likely the 10-20 sec of "lag" you are experiancing... I use the Energy line of roms myself... and I feel they are the best over all roms out there... period.

I'd have to agree. A SMS is about 1/7th of a kilobyte and a kilobyte is practically nothing. Sending a SMS doesn't cause a lag. I've been sending SMS since 1998 and WM wasn't even an option back then. It's all Microsoft and their crap OS.
I have to agree, it is the crappy htc sms client to blame, so I'm guessing noone have found a solution to this yet? Have you guys tried to hotfix from htc site?
I owned the tilt 1 and there was no lag at all in sms.
Ok, this is going to sound stupid but I'm not familiar with these types of ROM, such as Energy Rom. Is that the same as Manila 2.5? Or are they completely different?

What Exactly Do You Need Help With?
Maybe I Could Try To Help You.
I am attempting to change the interface on my tilt 2 to android or something else so the sms in threaded mode won't lag and plus im tired of the WinMo appearance. =)
Thank you for your time!
Hi I have the same problem as you and it drives me crazy. tell me if im correct: You are complaining about the fact that after you press x to close a threaded text conversation it lags getting back to the inbox. On mine everything changes back to the inbox except for the top of the screen and then it just sits there till it eventually goes bqck. Your not reffering to how long it takes for you friend to receive the text, correct? Ive tired installing the most current sms program from htc that was taking from another phone and although it looked much niicer and had some cool features it didnt work right and i had to switch back. Maybe somone reading this can suggest something. It sdriving me crazy. as far as changing from the windows look which either you mean what they call titanium which is that homescreen where you have everything in alist and you can scroll up and own through it or do you you mean what they call touch flo or sense where you move along the bottom of the screen through tabs? either way i would highly recomend spb mobile shell which will make your phone similar to android layout. It works great and is reqally easy to customize everything. or at least touch flo/sense with what they call cookies home tab which helps you customize your home screen. Let me know whcih one you have and which one you want and ill help you. I dont know how to program but i do know how to use the phone well, and customize it thanks to all the developers here who provide us with so much to do it with.
@ swaters3, yes that is exactly the probably with sms, it takes forever to go back to inbox screen and it freezes up. I'm not should what layout I have but its WinMo and the previously owner changed the rom the Energy Rom, if that matters. As for the Android layout, I heard I can do a dual boot where I can keep both WinMo and Android on the tilt 2. I was thinking, if I can boot to android that the sms will function right. As of now, I am still stuck with tilt 2 lagging sms threaded mode. Frustrating.
Do you hava a lot of sms or e-mail saved on the phone? That can cause it to bog down.
Yeah, but I originally owned the tilt 1 and had over 4,000 text message and encounter no problem sending out text messages.

i wish someone could help us with the lag, lately ive just learnt to be patient, though that is a little ridiculous. There is a sms program from htc (thecompany that makes the phone) that is much nicer and did not have the lag. I did have some other issues but maybe it will work for you. Search in xda for updated htc sms app and see if you can find it. as far as anroid goes I am trying to get mine to work properly and have still not got it to connect to sprint. Its a work in progress and not everything works so i dont think you would want to switch to it permanently. Give it a shot though its very cool and gets better every few days. As of know I think the camera is still not working but most everything else is. I would recomend spb mobile shell. watch some videos on youtube although you will be able to customize it yourself completely. Youll need to play with it to figure out how to customize it but its pretty easy just drag and drop type of stuff with anything on the phone. It looks and works like android but youll still be suing windows mobile. Its works great for me and i wouldnt be able to keep this phone if not for it. I hope that helps.
