I could have sworn awhile back I saw a thread regarding certain builds not being rootable. I did some searching as well as checked the rooting thread and didn't see anything regarding it.
Am I losing my mind or is this true? Reason I am asking is a few of my keys on my phone are not functioning correctly. Seems to be more of a hardware issue since it just takes a slightly harder press to activate the key. Therefore, I am going to get a replacement and want to make sure that any and all bugs in rooting all of the builds has been fixed.
I'd rather have a few sticky buttons than an unrooted phone. Hopefully someone doesn't take 2 seconds and find the thread(s) I am referring to and make me look like a turd
If I wasn't so tired I would so make you look like a turd, but there are spls that have caused headaches to root but they are still able to eventually. Rogers actually just put a new spl on that is making it a little annoying but still able. If you are in the US though than we are still easy root happy for now
I am getting this problem! The bottom row of keys are unresponsive unless i push down hard

most commonly moisture under the keys, and don't say "it's never been near water", you can get moisture damage from steam, sweat, condensation, you name it. easiest way to repair it would be dismantle the phone using one of the manuals somewhere on the forum, lift the cover over the keys, and you should see some small metal disks probably stuck to the cover. grab a fiberglass pencil, or a decent scrubbing utensil and basically polish them till shiney, same with the contacts on the keys themselves. make sure whatever you use to scrub is dry for obvious reasons. after that, carefully replace the cover making sure you lign up the keys propperly, and you should be all set.
either that or claim on insurance for a non-waranty voiding solution
-=edit=- also make sure the disk type things are rounded, not flat hope this info helps

LOL. Your a bad bad boy.
Well, I sent in my HD2 after having it for about a month because the touchscreen no longer worked. However they want $317.43 to replace the main board as I installed 'illegal' software on it (i.e., another ROM). They state because I did that, it is out of warranty and they wont cover the screen, even though they are unrelated.
Any thoughts on how to re-coup some money here? I've already paid $700 or so for the damn phone.
Anyone want an HD2 in this condition for a couple of hundred? It has nary a scratch on it. I freaking carried it in tissue paper for the month.
Any suggests? Please?
get it returned to you, flash stock rom from sd to remove hspl, (no need for touchscreen to do that) return it under warranty. Total loss? one set of shipping.

The problem with that is that the phone has the software lock on it. I could not unlock it to do that.
Oh, and they charge you a triage fee of $38.oo to look at it.

you dont need to boot the phone. put an sd card in it with the leoimg.nbh stock rom file on it, turn on phone holding voldown till it gets to bootloader, phone should see the nbh image and flash the rom, and remove the hspl at the same time.
Ask them to send the phone back, unlock it, flash back to stock ROM with stock SPL and hard reset and send it again. Job done

well there is a little hole in the back of the device pretty close to the soft reset button...anyways that button says WARRANTY and if its void they will press that little "button" in and your warranty will be void.
That's a good point - anyone had their HD2 come back as void?

Damn, so if it comes back like that, this is a total loss, huh? Can i sell it for parts?
still worth getting it returned without paying for it fixing, i would think, because that sticker is a screw cover, theres gotta be a chance they simply plugged it into a , erm, master computer, which showed hspl and rejected it before anyone even took the battery cover up.
plus of course its only the screen thats dodgy, can get that fixed far cheaper than HTC want to charge.

Can u post a pic about that button please?
Is there a sticker on the right hand side that also says void? Its parallel with the SIM card, just below the battery if its the same as mine?

@corny2007 yes thats the one
Just to clarify, the voided sticker covers screws so if opened, the device warranty is voided.

correct, but the assumtion made by an earlier poster is that the tech would see that hspl was installed, and break the void sticker to mark the device as out of warranty. (Can't see it myself, but you never know, cunning devils!)

AFAIK
I thought that the supplier has the responsibility to show that you have damaged a device by opening it anyway.
IOW damage or removal of those stickers don't necessarily mean that your rights to a repair have been lost.
For them to deliberately damage the stickers to "void your warranty sir" sounds like bordering on fraudulent. I sincerely hope a company like HTC wouldn't do something like that.
I would reply with: "The phone crashed on me in total darkness and I was fumbling around with a biro attempting to poke the stupidly small and impossibly placed reset button, I must have stuck it in your sticker by mistake."
EDIT: Final killer comment would be: "Unless of course one of your service guys did it out of pure spite to void my warranty?" :O

The void sticker is normal. It's if it's broken (by inserting a screwdriver in the screw) that things will go bad.
Why do they put it in such a tempting form? Why cant they have like a tab that snaps once the phone is open(Sticker that is connected to both the case and the main board)? Thats a much simpler and less scary and tempting.
Its really no big whoop. I use my TF normally, I keep it stored in a small neoprene laptop case. The s/n sticker is peeling and the back sticker which hass all the model info numbers and such is also peeling. I thought they would last longer than a couple of months. I dont own a KB yet but I assumed the big rear sticker was really for being able to slide the TF into the slot so as not to scratch up the back. Anyone else getting peeling stickers?
Perhaps a little contact cement will hold them. I had a similar issue with one of my cameras and contact cement made the serial # sticker permanent.
sounds like you need to rma tablet immediatey

Mine is a bit, I would just take a note of the serial number etc and take the stickers off if it is annoying you, the sticker on the back just holds the FCC etc and isn't important.
Wow - one of the first things I did was to remove those stupid stickers!! Surely, then can get the S/N from the inside somewhere if they needed to, right??

Yes, but you do need it if you have to RMA your unit. As long as you have the box or the manual you should be ok (the S/N is on both these items).

Same thing here. Those stickers didn't look like they were meant to hold on except for in the box.

just to let you know, you can NOT get the s/n inside the tablet. I know this because my friend's tablet died and it was kind of a pain to RMA since his tablet never had the s/n sticker on the tablet itself and he threw the box away. But I did find out that the s/n is on the warranty card.
Ripped off stickers here as well, first thing I did. They should really be permanently etched into the case.
Does nobody keep their boxes anymore? The sn is on the box =p

A little clear finger polish might do the trick.

In today's market of get it out first then fix it later if customers complain enough you almost have to keep the box until out of warranty so it can go back.
Sticker definitely does not feel permanent. Disappointing considering the information listed. My old skool mp3 player (zune) has it etched into the back, looks good.
I don't think either of the 2 tablets I have received had serial numbers on the actual unit.
So does mine, I was considering tearing them off - is there any reason to keep them on?
I took the one on the back when I walked out of best buy
But the serial number one is still there. Might put some tape over it or something.
I placed my stickers inside my warranty booklet
Surely ASUS has another wat to obtain the serial number... Otherwise, if my 6 month old Transformer breaks, I can just go buy a new one, put the new one's serial number sticker on the old one and then return the old one as if it were only a few days old.... See what I mean? I woud hope that ASUS has another way of idetifying these things...
Hi guys
I just wondered, when you remove the back cover of the nexus7. Is there some tape or something, so that the guys at ASUS can tell if you have removed the back cover.
Has anyone encounter problems with warranty when they have removed the back cover?
There's no tape or stickers. You are free to take a look inside.

Plus they really can't void your warranty for removing a sticker. It's a pretty common tactic among hardware vendors to put a little "warranty void" sticker on their devices and it is a pretty well known fact that they have no legal basis in the world to actually deny a warranty claim based on breaking a sticker.
It's your device, you are allowed to open and modify it as you see fit, the burden of proof rests on the manufacturer to demonstrate that any failure was caused by your modification and thus voided your warranty - a little sticker is not sufficient grounds to make that claim on any device out there.

Do you or anyone else have the legal writing for this that says it has no legal basis. Im not challenging you just looking for more facts to have when /if I ever need to express this.
Can I peel off the sticker on the back of the phone, where the IMEI, and that is located? Without voiding any warranty or other stuff.

Honestly, the very first phone that I bought, many years ago, I had the same question.
