How to add apps2sd - G1 General

ok so I got supercsdi V4 by Mlign (elegance theme) which is about as fast and as pretty as it gets. Only problem is the SupSetup app it is crap and that's the one that does swapping and apps2sd plus a bunch of stuff you don't need.
So I removed it since it's garbage, replaced it with droidswap which is the best app for swapping I have found, overclock widget which I prefer for overclocking, so all I have left is apps2sd. How can I get apps2sd working?
Ideally is there an app I can just install like droidswap for swapping? or some hack that would work with supercsdi... ?

N1 Owners running Cyan's ROM - Are you running Apps2sd?

I have been using Cyan's rom for quite some time now and am absolutely pleased with his work! But as we all know none of Cyan's rom for the N1, the latest being 5.0.2 at the time of this writing, have app2sd support out of the box.
So begs the question for N1 owners running Cyan's ROM, Are you running Apps2sd?
I'm not planning to use Apps2SD.
Simple because when I had my G1, I was new to Androidâ„¢ and apps and shtuff.
Now that I've upgraded to the N1, I now know what apps I like, what review sites to trust, which developers to trust, which types of apps I need/want.
I currently use about 5-7 apps daily that I've purchased.
I doubt I will ever have more than a dozen or so installed, even with trial usage of free apps.
Unless something super AMAZING comes out that I gotta try/have/buy.
Well, I become nervous when I see the internal storage has only 196MB so I decided to go for app2SD with my 16GB class 6 microSDHC card...
I also wish to have apps2sd installed as my disk space getting low. I have actually quite a lot of games waiting to be installed but sad I can't yet. Was thinking waiting for Google to provide native SD card apps install support. - I really hope it will happen soon.
No, I have no need for it.
I only have a handful of apps installed. If I want to play something more taxing than Solitaire or Robot Defender I'll fire up my PS3...
Ditto. I've never gotten into handheld gaming. I'd rather load up Crysis on the PC.
I don't do much gaming either, but why use the phone memory when the SD card is available?
Also it helps when changing ROM's as all my Ext3 apps appear without reloading.
So yes I'm using it and it's great 224 apps installed and 24Mb of my 196Mb used
200mb's is plenty for me. I got a TON of apps installed and still have 100mbs free. So no need for Apps2SD, which also will slow down ur phone a little.

Ditto. Slower start time = no thanks.
I haven't really seen these huge games. I have and play:
Radiant - 5.36MB
Totemo - 3.82MB
Haven't really found anything else on the market that was worth paying for.
I also have everything I feel like I need, and still have 140MB FREE (extra 40 from Cyanogen) of storage on my phone (out of 196MB).
the only reason i use APPS2SD is when i flash new roms or do wipes, my EXT partition is still saved. So when i install/test any new room, apps2sd is enabled and i will have all my apps right where i left them.

[Q] Which ROM to use?

I see several ROMs but I don't know how to pick one.
Can someone who has used them all please give me an overview and the plusses and minuses?
Thanks!

What's the difference between the one WITH voodoo and the one without?
Voodoo removes the bluish tint inherant to stock epic... but in my experience it only works when the screen brightness is at 100%

Voodoo is a different color scheme that can get rid of the blue tint that bothers some people. It only works at 100% brightness so I don't really have a use for it. The I have never really noticed a blue tint with my epic. If you want to know more about voodoo there is a link in the MixUp kernel thread that has all the details.
I should also mention that I use Launcher Pro Plus instead of touchwiz and I replaced the tocuhwiz calendar with the stock AOSP calendar. For clock speed management I use the Overclock widget instead of setcpu.

I second this! I've had the Nexus One with Froyo CM6 and the HTC EVO with Froyo CM6 and the stock rom that comes with the Epic is an excellent performer. All I did was root my stock rom and install clockwork recovery for backups. I then installed the SDX App remover which backs up and allows you to remove any app that the phone came preloaded with. I then removed the apps I didn't want. I also installed ADW Launcher which I prefer over TW and the Epic performs flawlessly! I flashed all sorts of different roms on my Nexus One and my Evo looking for a speedy, lag free bugless rom. The stock Epic rom with 2.1 performs on par with any of those other two phones I owned with their custom roms. My Epic is quick and bug free! Sure it might not have out of this world stats but I do not even notice that in real world usage. Touchwiz is not a huge makeover and resource hog like Sense UI. People complain about the Epics apps and they want to replace them with AOSP apps. TW apps ARE AOSP apps they are just slightly customized so that can be branded as TW apps. There theming is a little different and I actually like their custom touches which I think make them just that much more usable than AOSP apps. It will take a killer rom for me to stop enjoying my Epic the way I have it customized it with the stock rom.
By the way you can also install the custom TW 3.0 which lets you customize the app menu and dock!

A rooted stock rom is fine to stick with provided you install superuser.apk and apply the fix to joeykrim's root method that allows superuser.apk to work. I made a post with the instructions in the forum. Otherwise you are running a rooted rom with no control over which apps get root access and that is just crazy. Also, there is no reason to stay with the stock kernel. The undervolted Mixup kernel will increase your battery life by at least a few hours. That alone is reason to use it over stock even if you don't want the other enhancements.
I retired all the roms except backed snacks. My fav and current set up is thee boss rom v.3 with mixup kernel and blue minimalist theme. I also use the paid version of launcher pro. My phone is quick and snappy and full of eye candy

I had some issues with the Boss .02... some force closes (which permission fixing didn't fix). I had no issues with either the Epic Experience or BUB'S AOSP roms... both are extremely stable on my Epic with good battery life and fast performance. Currently I am running the latest Epic Experience ROM with no major issues.

Then you have a working superuser.apk so you don't need to worry about that part of my post but the MixUp kernel is still way way better than the stock kernel on battery life and functionality.
My 2 cents:
I'm using Epic Experience right now and loving it. He's got a few options for those who want to customize things like the lock screen, kernel, LWP's and such. Plus lately he's been updating it like every 15 minutes! lol
The stock rom is actually really good too though. It was rock solid when I was using it. But I'm a ROM junkie so I had to go custom =P

best rom for hero with eye candy and usability???

My daughter is 16 and a techie. she is running stock 2.1 on her hero. Recently, she ran out of room on her phone for memory because with stock 2.1, you can not move apps to the sd card. is there a program or a rom, that offers everything the stock rom has, PLUS the ability to move apps from phone to sd card?????

what is sense?
thanks for your reply, but what is sense? is it significant enough not to be without or what?
Sense is the user interface that came with the phone. It is made by HTC and is found on most HTC phones (EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, HTC Incredible, etc). It's an Android skin/theme and more. The notification bar theme, Sense widgets (weather, flip clock, etc), dialer application, messaging app, etc are all unique to Sense only. I say it's more than a skin/theme because there are differences in functionality in addition to looks.
Motorola makes MotoBlur, but no one likes it. Samsung makes TouchWiz. They all offer a different Android experience.
AOSP (Android Open Source Project), aka "Vanilla Android" is Android in its purest form, the OS that the above build over.
It's hard to describe, you have to see the difference for yourself. This thread isn't comprehensive at all but shows the general sense of the differences.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7227980
sense is the HTC home integration. there are other AOSP options available, AND, firerat's allows users to modify the internal storage space, in most cases making app2sd null. there are also lots of themes for AOSP gingerbread flavors like CM7. those AOSP options won't have sense.
ok, so is there a general preference from users? do more tend to prefer the sense roms or aosp roms? I want her to be able to download apps with ease, not have to flash them, want her camera to work and all major functions. i read one thread on sense 2.2 rom but it appeared that the camera still does not work. I am trying to obtain a rom that has all functions working, and the ability to move apps from phone to sd card much like i can with froyo 2.2.1. does this help narrow down what i am looking for?
As far as I know, there isn't a fully functional Sense rom past Eclair (2.1). A lot of users prefer AOSP roms, as Sense is a resource hog and it's heavy. CM7 and asopMod are both excellext roms, though cm runs better on my device for whatever reason. If you get an AOSP rom, you'll need to flash it and the gapps.zip to get the market and such because Android is open source, Googles apps are not.

Sir, I would recommend CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984702
Everything works on that, gps, camera, wifi, bluetooth etc etc. Plus it has
ability to move apps to SD. Very stable, fast and actively being developed.
Or
aospCMod which is a mixture of asop and CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864403
It has everything working as well so You can't go wrong with this one
either. (This is my current rom)
You would only have to Flash the google apps once and after that She
will be able to to download apps from market like she normally does
right now with her sense rom. I believe I have answered all your questions.
Please free to ask if you have any more questions. Both of these roms
are so fast that she will never miss sense again!!!
Download adw launcher from the market. After its installed press the home key and choose adw. Don't check the box. Click ok. This is what is used in most aosp roms. If you go the aosp way you'll have to find alternatives to the sense widgets that look similiar if that's what she likes. There are plenty out there. CM7 and anything built off of 2.2 or 2.3 has native apps to SD, meaning you won't need to partition the sdcard. There are a couple.of sense roms still being updated, but the majority have moved on to aosp or CM7. These also seem to feel smother than a Sense based ROM. I would still prefer a sense based ROM, though.

Best custom rom w/o the crapware

which rom is the best without all the crap ware? Is there a rom out that just works? Flashing the rom without ever have to go into titianium to remove the unwanted appz...some of them you can't even remove from the rom. what ever app i want, I can just install it. CM and miui doesn't have crapware but not everything works. I don't want to have to install 3rd party software just to have certain feature works. All the other roms have crapware like facebook, peep, weather and news, desk clock, and etc... It beats the purpose of rooting your phone and at the same time custom roms may also have a lot of crapware.
well sometimes u cant always have what you want, you gotta compromise, or just learn to be a rom dev, and make your own?

Once rooted, there is nothing you can't uninstall/delete with Root Explorer. Pick your fav ROM, buy Root Explorer and delete away. That said, you will have sense running in the background on anything that is not AOSP (unless you run a sense remover of some sort. I think Calkulin has one.)

cm7+savaged-zen works great, the only thing that i have run into trouble with is the gps which is an easy fix with this New GPS drivers! v1.1
in my own opinion i love Miui i fell in love with it..
Miui with Savaged zen SBC(latest) Vipermod (flash Insanemode) Ram script Mod.Overclocked to 1.13ghz. my phone really feels better acts better games better Battery LASTS WAY LONGER...only problem no app drawer but you can always use zeam launcher that makes it even faster i think
Go with MikG man, it comes with some of the "crapware" but you can easily remove everything you don't want and the rom is phenomenal
EVO Deck is about one of the cleanest ROMs you can get; he strips CM7 clean of a lot of the stuff they add (language packs and stuff) so his zip file is pretty small.
I highly recommend his ROM if you want a good all-around AOSP experience; combined with Tiamat 3.3.7 it also gave me the best battery life of any ROM I've used.
Deck and SalvageMod are extremely lightweight

These are my opinions but for looks, simplicity, speed and not any bloatware right off the bat, try Kings..

In fairness, I don't think there's any custom ROM not based on stock that works perfectly. There are always nagging little issues like auto brightness not working or having to run a driver fix for GPS with every CM nightly. You have to take the good with the bad.
Cyanogen works great for me without any problems

OMFGB Nightlies are real good.. Android 2.3.5, different from CM. Has some interesting features and T-Moblie Theme Chooser
Also like Just_S said before, you can easily remove any app you don't want..

Titanium Backup is good for uninstalling apps too.
flashing rom with all the crapware and uninstalling crapware through titianium backup, doesn't that slow down your phone? look at windows mobile and windows os. Installing an appz and uninstalling it slows down your phone by half. cm and miui doesnt have 4g. The last time I checked, both still have issue with 160 character and tethering issues.

I never noticed any slow-down from uninstalling apps. CM7 supports 4G on the EVO; I can't speak for all other phones. I never had any tethering issues when using any custom ROM.
