ap2sd does sort of the same job and works great for me, only thing that kills the internal is the gameloft games which i dont use anyways, i have 127 apps with still ALOT of usage left, only used a quarter of me internal... i know you didnt open thread to hear that but thought id share bit of the ap2sd
and ive not seen any sense 3.0 rom that displays d2sd

Thanks. So where are apps stored? Sdcard? But why does android display so little internal storage?
Btw, I downloaded almost all the gameloft games thats why data2ext is better for me

N1 Owners running Cyan's ROM - Are you running Apps2sd?

I have been using Cyan's rom for quite some time now and am absolutely pleased with his work! But as we all know none of Cyan's rom for the N1, the latest being 5.0.2 at the time of this writing, have app2sd support out of the box.
So begs the question for N1 owners running Cyan's ROM, Are you running Apps2sd?
I'm not planning to use Apps2SD.
Simple because when I had my G1, I was new to Androidâ„¢ and apps and shtuff.
Now that I've upgraded to the N1, I now know what apps I like, what review sites to trust, which developers to trust, which types of apps I need/want.
I currently use about 5-7 apps daily that I've purchased.
I doubt I will ever have more than a dozen or so installed, even with trial usage of free apps.
Unless something super AMAZING comes out that I gotta try/have/buy.
Well, I become nervous when I see the internal storage has only 196MB so I decided to go for app2SD with my 16GB class 6 microSDHC card...
I also wish to have apps2sd installed as my disk space getting low. I have actually quite a lot of games waiting to be installed but sad I can't yet. Was thinking waiting for Google to provide native SD card apps install support. - I really hope it will happen soon.
No, I have no need for it.
I only have a handful of apps installed. If I want to play something more taxing than Solitaire or Robot Defender I'll fire up my PS3...
Ditto. I've never gotten into handheld gaming. I'd rather load up Crysis on the PC.
I don't do much gaming either, but why use the phone memory when the SD card is available?
Also it helps when changing ROM's as all my Ext3 apps appear without reloading.
So yes I'm using it and it's great 224 apps installed and 24Mb of my 196Mb used
200mb's is plenty for me. I got a TON of apps installed and still have 100mbs free. So no need for Apps2SD, which also will slow down ur phone a little.

Ditto. Slower start time = no thanks.
I haven't really seen these huge games. I have and play:
Radiant - 5.36MB
Totemo - 3.82MB
Haven't really found anything else on the market that was worth paying for.
I also have everything I feel like I need, and still have 140MB FREE (extra 40 from Cyanogen) of storage on my phone (out of 196MB).
the only reason i use APPS2SD is when i flash new roms or do wipes, my EXT partition is still saved. So when i install/test any new room, apps2sd is enabled and i will have all my apps right where i left them.

[Q] Even with all the stickies, can't find a decent rom, maybe with sense too

Its for my father's HD2, Windows Mobile is pretty much useless nowadays, and he loves the Voice Search feature on my Evo 3D. Its going to be a NAND rom, not booting from SD, that would be too annoying for him to use.
Thing is, there are only about 1000 roms for this thing....... even dozens of versions of Cyanogen.
And on top of that, I don't know how well some of the custom roms with Sense 2.0 or 3.0 would work, or if any are missing hardware support.
I understand you lose performance if you add-on alternate UIs like sense, but how big is the performance hit? Hes not going to be playing high-end 3D games or performing protein folding or anything on the thing, so as long as the performance loss doesn't hit the "Phone becomes laggy, input lags, and it takes forever to load anything" range, I would actually prefer a sense based rom than one without.
Again, I am doing this for someone that isn't TOO technical, though no stranger to computers either, so I don't need a rom packed full of overclocking and root tweaking options (though a rooted rom would still be preferred).
So then, are there any good Sense 3.0 roms for the HD2 available? Got any you recommend? Do they still support all of the phone's hardware?
If not, what would be your next choice? Is there much point in using Sense 2.0 over vanilla android other than the extra sense widgets which he would probably not care about? Sense 3.0 does have the looping home screens and the very functional lock screen that I know he would find useful.
Thanks, I know a lot of people ask for recommendations, but after searching for roms for days and basically flying blind in the "maybe this one will be good, its got a lot of people installing it" category I could really use some advice, especially for a Sense 3.0 rom... if they exist.

If you really want sense, go for a dhd sense 3 rom (Runnymede Sense 3.5 works well on mine), and if you really want looping homescreens, install launcherpro on any rom of your choice.
BUT I'd recommend a cm7/miui rom because in the end, it's still slow.

Not a fan of Sense 3.5 over 3.0 personally.
And just how slow is it compared to CM7? I mean, I understand CM7 will be faster than a sense rom, even CM7 with sense hacked in, but as long as its not laggy or sluggish thats fine, I don't need it to break benchmark records and run the latest 3d software.
I really like the sense 3.X roms... and i don't find them THAT slow (i have a DHD).
But that god damn graphic glitch is anoying, and i'm not going to disable GPU rendering of sense to get it working without glitches... must wait

Im new to NAND HD2, but not new to the HD2 ( sold my 1st one, just got another the other day ) but I just flashed my first Android NAND ROM and I noticed all thse graphic glitches, i thought it was something else. But apparently its a common problem for everyone? No fix Im assuming.
Anyways im curious what you mean by DHD?
GHetting to performance, HD2 isnt bad at all! Im old time Android owner going back to the G1 and myTouch 3G.If you wanna see degraded performance try flashing a Sense rom on a G1 or 32B device. OWwwo
Well I can recommend Rafdroid rom. Its Sense2 stock froyo. Works mostly well.
So, did they ever fix those graphic glitches people keep complaning about?
MIUI builds are very slick, very impressive on the HD2, can't imagine it being any slicker or faster as there seems to be zero lag whatsoever.

I have the same question (which ROM to use?) but this post still doesnt not give me a clear answer. I have been using Mikhei777 sense 3.0 version (original) but it has lots of lag and is fairly sluggish. He has upgraded it a few times but now seems to be spending more time on the sense 3.5 version. Its my wifes phone so do not want to keep trying new versions. Just want someone to recommend a known good stable version...
Thanks

Strange, I can't find that one here:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
I've been using Mikhei777's Android 2.2.1 Sense 2.0 rom for quite some time. It works great and haven't had any problems at all with it. The wifi hotspot works also. Not sure about bluetooth and USB tethering stuff. Don't use them. He deleted a lot of the useless system apps but there is a rar file you can download from the first post that has all of the deleted stuff in case there is something you want to put back in it. I've only put on Facebook and the text to speech stuff. I'm not using an ext on my phone since I have a TMOUS HD2 so, I don't have memory issues. Give it a try. If you don't like it you can always flash something else.

exactly, wise words...
if you want a good rom with everything working, miui is the way to go. If your friend is not a hardcore techie, he better stays away from those Sense roms. try it for yourself and compare.. but seriously feature wise Sense is so outdated compared to miui (except the htc widgets maybe).
cheers
The worst about MIUI, it's that laggish launcher/desktop.
I don't know why... it fells "low frame rate".

That's why I use PAT's MIUI Rom with Sense launcher. It combines the best of the 2 world's. Very fast, customizable and everything is working like in other MIUI rom's and a very good, customizable launcher with the most important sense widget's.
No graphic glitches, not a disabled GPU acceleration and camcorder with full resolution and without lags. And the newest Android 2.3.7 version.
Use this rom since some month's, will never go back to the slow sense rom's. Only the dialer facebook integration of the sense dialer isn't there, but I don't have facebook and Co. But there is already an alternative dialer on the market, probably he can also display the actual feelings (posted in facebook) of the incoming caller and such nonsense.

now you have surprised me not sure which version of miui you are refering to, but i am on jan-willems miui and there is zero lag (its butter smooth) on the luncher. basically there are no issues at all.
btw installing a 3rd party launcher on miui is a no go, as it decrases the fuctionality.. people no offense, but you need to read the miui bible
@Nixda99
one question, what do you mean by:
"Only the dialer facebook integration of the sense dialer isn't there, but I don't have facebook and Co."?
When i get a call from a Facebook contact i can actually see its profile pic from facebook. On contact details i also see his status or last comment or whatever its called clicking on it, opens the facebook app and goes to this comment. is that what you meant?
If you are looking for a good ROM, Team Blue Droid have produced an excellent sense 3.5 Rom which looks the business and works far better than many others I have flashed recently on mh EU HD2. I am not that technically minded regarding SD card partition types, but I run mine via SD card after flasing a 1024 partition using CMR and the accompanying DAF.exe.

There are missing also the hardware switching widgets (WLAN, Mobile Network...) but all is in the top status bar. You have only the contacts and the calendar widget, but it's enough for me.

But no hardware acceleration or with graphical glitches, only the new sense kernels should solve this problem. I don't know if there already stable.
How many free ram do you have after start with this rom?

[Q] Which ROM for me?

Hello, I am a desperate GT540 user, a real desperate user.
My problem with my phone as is now (official 2.1) is that it is so laggy at times. The response is so awful from time to time that I really want to crash the phone at the wall (and damn I just painted the wall).
Sometimes when I got a call it shows instantly who is calling, some other times it start ringing, it slowly light the buttons, then the screen, then it show some graphics and finally it identify who is calling me (and the whole coffee shop at the moment is looking disturbed at me like "what take so long to pick up?").
This lag can happen in other places too, like for example when opening my SMSs.
My last hope now is a custom ROM.
What I want?
Well I don't want to play games or have some mind blow performance in benchmarks etc, I just want to use my phone as a phone, I want it to be quick and responsive.
I do care about the apps to work ofc (GPS and Gmaps can come in hand all the time) but I don't care if those apps are slow or the games are losing frames etc.
Also I want to have some android version that allow me to install apps in the SD card, if possible. Otherwise a workaround is something than nothing I guess.
So which rom to get? A link on how to install it as well will be very very welcome.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much, I hope this can give some life to that phone because I really hate to realize that I wasted 200 euros on that phone.
(I mean wasted because first LG abandoned the support while the phone was still on the market, and never got a newer android version and because I want my phones to be with me for at least 4-5 years, before I get a new one).

Sent from my LG GT540 Swift
I use mur4ik's CM7 ASIS rom and I purchased and set up Autostarts from Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts
With the combination of these I am satisfied.
Many apps are started by different activites, like "phone unplugged" or "recieve sms" and I disabled the unnecessary app starts with Autostarts.
I mean my alarm clock does not start automatically anymore if I plug the phone in for example and many many more like this.
With this method my phone runs smoothly.
yes asis is good if you want to flash a fastboot version use the mirror in my sig its compressed so it download faster
Mikes Beta 4
ok... so I set things up to install the CM7.
I follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747
but it is missing the fastboot.exe, the link is invalid. Any other link to get it safely?
Also it is noticing the situation of no LG logo and animations at startup, a situation that applies to me as well and it recommend this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10238074&postcount=41
The problem is that with the solution is another missing file "out.kdz", the link get's me in some Czech site, which requires to install some toolbar before it let me download.
So any other link for that file as well?
Also anyone knows if it is required to fix the Boot logo problem before I go on with the recovery?

CM7 is good, whichever u use! Guess the best cm7 is pcf but i've not tried all of the roms released!
I recomend u to use froyo (2.2) cause has the best performance, REALLY smoth, fast, everything... And our phone gets it best than GB, cause i've tested that when I get a text or Whatsapp msg, the keyboard shows faster in Froyo than GB (FOR EXAMPLE) which mean that has better response.
I recomend u Froyo cause i'm like you and I get what u say xD, I hate when someone calls and I can see who's, or the lack of speed on daily things or common things as showing an img or smth similar!
Best froyos are PCF 2.2 v2.3 AOSP, Superfast Froyo (airbus360) and MikeG's CM6 Froyo... Give then a test or test all roms you want so u can choose on your own!
But be REALLY carefuly about the process cause some bugs are shown when flashing roms!
Remember to clear cache and load battery xD
Thanks, but so far the CM7 with 2.3 is OK.
I have no lag at all and even the battery life improved.
Of course it is a bit early to be sure that this is my mod, but so far everything is fine (the wifi bug appears from time to time but not always, but it work after a few attempts).

Ok i understand thats your opinion, And ofc i have no problem with that
Whats with everybody saying froyo is better for our phone!
I can honestly say the best rom for our phone at the minute is Mikes ICS (if your willing to cope with out Deep Sleep. YES i know its a big ask )
I cant understand why even mike appears to say on his twitter ICS dosent make sense on our phones.
Ive been hovering around these forums for the past 12 months + and i have try'd all roms that have been posted. Im Picky
But Mikes ICS is out right the best for looks, speed, smoothness, performance and multitasking
I have had absolutly no problems using ICS (deep sleep not included )
Its a shame there seems to be more support for Froyo than ginger and ICS
like for example if i had to move from ICS i would go back to GB because for me it preforms better than froyo.
Is there Something ive missed with froyo or can a hardware issue cause a rom to preform differantly on 2 different devices.
(guess i had the one good processor of the line )
because im baffled why people choose froyo
@up i like froyo better then gb
i dont really think for me that is that cm9 is ready for daily use yet some bugs not squashed

[Q] Swap on G1 - Have some sense?

Some time ago in my old G1 I try a way to setup a swap patrition.
But also in a Desire Z.
It seemed to me that the phone would be more efficient.
Just my impression?
My question is becouse speaking in other forums I was strongly discouraged the use of swaps on Android. Increased power consumption, performance degradation.
From the mathematical point of view would not make sense, the ram is more powerful and less power hungry you SD.
Is it in real situations?
It makes sense to swap usage on Android phones?
Thanks for your explanations.
for me it does feel like a smoother faster machine when i use swap, usually around 96 on most of my sd cards. i have never found proof one way or another that it speeds things up and its not just a placebo affect. but everyone seems to have their own story.
here is an interesting quip on swap and compcache-
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Swap_and_Compcache
best thing to do is test for yourself
@ demkantor
THANK YOU!
This link is very helpfull. Now I understand the two techniques, swap and Compcache! Ok, I knew swap but had not connected.
So, the answer should be:
on small phone, such is the G1 or Magic or GW620 and so on, may help. Compcache use CPU to compress and decompress page files... swap use SD and less cicle of CPU. May depend from apps you use Frequently.
A navigator use less CPU and more space so Compcache seems better... other apps with CPU consumption like videogames, mai prefer swap.
Yes, the best way is to try by myself, but with this knowledge I can understand better how and why.
Thank you so much again.
Its wierd...for most ROMs swap makes the phone a lot faster
But I recently built a AOSP ROM just to try it out
It works beautifully without swap!
Must be cuz it's so bare...
It really depends on how much you multitask
And if you use stock browser
That takes a ton of RAM
I usually remove the stock browser
Thanks.
And I will try your ROM with swap and will you know my impression on your post.

Well I don't know about the freezes and restarts, but lag and Sense go hand in hand unfortunately UI is great but any GB/Sense ROM is just slow, and Froyo/Sense (like the suggested one) is speedy but outdated. If I were you I would stick to CM7, it can be themed very well to look like Sense

I do not agree! I am running RCMix3D v5.1 and marc1706's v0.1.8 Kernel and it is very very smooth! It just works. I would recommend you to try this combination.
Cheers
This sounds like an sd card issue to me...
The sense roms are heavy, the runny roms use sd-ext for extra memory...
Where you using an sd-ext partition for example ext3 or ext4 ?
If you where that would be the sd card causing an issue as a result, are you formating through sdformater tool?
Try another sd card if you can and give it a spin,
Good luck!

Try a larger partition than the one mentioned in their threads. It could be some bad blocks that are preventing some components from being installed, which may cause some lags, freezes or reboots.

I guess I'll just go back to HyperDroid but I really like the sense roms :/ does anybody know if I can get the notification bar to work like the one in CoreDroid?

Did you try the larger partition size? Also, you can try MIUI if you want the quick settings to be in a separate tab, although using the built in notification toggles in CM7 is enough for me. You can add loads if you want, in Cyanogenmod settings.
I've been having the same issues. I've found a 2.2 android with 2.1 sense, can't remember name, that worked really well, but needed different apps for my emails so I've been experimenting with tosty's v7 ics and its been nice. Try searching for a sense from with the specs I wrote.
