A few people wanted pics, so here is the dust under the screen.
And I wipe off my Ghost Armor like 5000 times a day, so the dust is not on the screen protector. There are a few pieces of dust on the outside (which is normal) but that big amount is collecting under the screen and has been since before I put the cover on.

Generally how long does it take to see dust under the screen?
Luckily Ive been one of the few not to have this happen to me but if I did I could tell u Id be PISSED! Thats just not right. Theres no excuse for that whatsoever. I hope they dont give u guys problems returning it do they?
yeah, I'd be pissed.
I do not have any particles under mine, so here's hoping that a simple plate alignment from the service dept will prevent future dust/nonsense
Yeah, I'm gonna go in to the SS soon and see if they can do anything. I got mine completely new Feb. 1st, so it hasn't even been that long.

That seems like a lot of dust for such a short period of time. I guess I'm lucky, as I bought mine a week later than you and have no dust (knock wood)
mine's got more dust on that, and some on the top right and left corner. it's awfully annoying. i contacted htc a few times and they told me to go to sprint, who told me to go back to htc, who told me to call a sprint repair store. so i called. one store said they never heard of it, and the other said that they've heard of it but its a cosmetic issue.
i decided to try sprint's chat support, cause HTC told me that there was a fix, and that it was sprint's fix. i argued with the chat person, and he put a note on my account saying that this problem has to be repaired, and to waive all charges. i'm going to try and get a replacement though, as i've also heard that sprint reps can't tear apart a hero. it'll also fix my paint chipping issue D

I took mine to my local SS, they were pretty helpful. The tech took a look at the phone offered to take it apart and cleaned the dust out.
i bought my hero from best buy in early march. after about a week, i noticed dust. so i took it to BB. they just replaced it, no questions. cut to a week later with the new replacement, dust again. this time, i had the phone in a body glove case every time it was in my pocket w/ a screen protector. i decided to go to a sprint repair store. the tech claims he fixed it. i took the phone w/o looking at in the sunlight & it was worse than before. so i just took it to best buy & got another replacement. 2 weeks later, 3rd phone, dust again! i haven't taken it in just yet (rooted & installed a 2.1 rom-so i'm waiting for the official rom to come out ) but best buy told me sprint repair stores will fix clean it out & apply some sort of sealant. i'm going to try another repair store than the one i went to inititally.
btw, my wife has the htc hero. no dust at all. and she's had the phone since november
I got my phone in December and I guess I am one of the lucky one I dont have the dust issue.

the person i spoke to at best buy said the sprint repair stores 'should' reseal where the dust is coming in. that's the issue. it's a bad seal either buy the charging port or headphone port (maybe another spot or two). it's a pretty simple fix if you get the right tech

Must have been something about gettin your phone in december LOL.
I haven't had dust under mine and got it then too. Paint on my buttons is also fine.
I just noticed a few spots on mine the other day also. But it isn't enough of an issue to deal with Sprint yet. I just hope it doesn't become an issue like my damn Verizon ENV2 did. Went through 3 of them before I got sick of driving to the store and finally convinced them to take the phone back because I wasn't going with "possibly" another lemon phone. They upgraded me to the Titanium Voyager. It kind of helps when ya mention contacting the State Attorney General's Office. Especially when it is a known issue and they continue to sell them. Most companies don't like having the NYS one on them. He is a major pain in the butt to companies.

This will not fix the issue. If it does, you are super lucky. The dust is a manufacturers defect. The phone has been improperly sealed. The only thing letting sprint open your phone will do for you is piece of mind until it comes back.. unless THEY replace the seals. I sent my phone to HTC to have it done. Upon retrieval I have 1 or 2 specs under the screen, but have been shoving it in my pockets with no more accumulation.
Went through 3 phones in the first week. This was way back during the BB early release for rewards zone member pre-orders. First 2 were dead pixels, last one was dust right out of the box. Mine was good until a month ago or so. The common place for dust accumulation is the bottom left corner above the menu button. In a dark room you can also see light leaking out in this area in the crack above the menu button.

correct, its the seal. Mine still omits light where you mention, but that in itself is not the reason dust is getting in. As I said, if you purchased your phone before HTC implemented the fix (within the last month probably) then it will be an issue. swapping phones is pointless. I ended up with worse cases everytime I swapped.
Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
so if it's the seal, shouldn't every sprint repair store be able to easily fix it? hell, i'd be willing to do it myself if i had steps on fixing the seal

Hi all,
I have just noticed that I have one single particicle of dust under the glass of the LCD.
I am wondering if someone has experienced anything like that yet or I am the proud owner of the only HD2 in the world with a dust particicle under the screen.
I thought they were assembled in a clean room... in fact the dust particicle it's exactly on the center right of the display... I thought it was a bad pixel but luckily it is not.
Now I am wondering how to remove that. Gonna try some elctrostatic method...
Me to ... only noticed it today when putting on an HTC screen protector. It is to the bottom left under 'phone' on the left softbutton.
The question is ... are they not sealed properly ... or is this something that was trapped during the manufacturing process and subsequently moved. If it is the former ... we have a big problem.
I wonder how HTC approach this under their 2 year warranty ?
If it is sealed ... I assume there is no practical way to get the dust out.
I've had the device since the 11th.
Paul.

I don't know... let's wait and see. Mine is really near the center of the screen. It seems really strange that it is coming from the outside.
I have the device since the 17th.
Where did you get the screen protector from? and also does that have any effect on using touch screen on the phone?
Bump.
No one else yet report dust problems?
My single particicle is still there and I cannot move it anyway.
No other particicle yet although I am getting nervous and I am starting to see dust particicles everywhere.
I was quite surprised by your report, and keep checking my device for dust. Not found so far (using two weeks, also loose in pocket). Major dust problems would really disappoint me, such a high end product shouldn't have that...
Checking the device for defective pixels/dust under the glass is one of the very first tests I do when I'll eventually get mine.
Could you not just return it to where you bought it?
Hi,
not a dust particle for me, but like a "bubble" in the glass...
I took a picture of it :
its on the left hand side (most of the "dots" here are dust on the screen), there are 3 of them
on the picture it looks like 3 white dots but in reality it's a bubble in or under the screen...
I remember having the same problem you have with my SPV C500 and orange changed it.

Hi, I have a very similar "bubble" under my HD2 screen. It's right in the bottom right! Got my phone on the 29th. Should I take it back to the shop or contact HTC?
It begins...the usual HTC problems rear their ugly heads!
I have had a dust problem with every single HTC phone I've had all the way back to the original SPV! Damn them!
well... i contacted orange & they will change it (a brand new one)
this pb didn't really disturbed me, but then i read on a forum that a user broke his screen with a very small shock and i thought "this bubble might weaken my screen"
I had a quick chat with HTC regarding this, and the hotliner told me that "this shouldn't be on a brand new phone, it s a hardware issue, please contact your distributor asap & they will change it"
Well you are right... but a single dust particicle means that mine is unique, while yours is common.
By the way... I bought mine from expansys europe giving it back and having it substituted means months.
I'm afraid as previously mentioned, I too have one dust particle ... you are not unique at all
Let us stand tall together and proudly go where no HD2 has gone before ....
HTC are working on a hotfix for this bug, be patient <<joke
Strange ... when I called I was told they had determined it was a hardware problem and they had invested in nanobot technology to seek and consume alien dust organisms.
I have a speck of dust too!

I took mine back to the shop only to be told it was caused by me! I was not happy! I kicked off big time. You can clearly see the bubble is under the screen!!!! How the hell could I have done that!
Anyway they eventually agreed to replace the handset but they (o2 uk) have none in stock in any store! When asked when they would receive stock I was told that they don't know!!!! How can they not know? I was so mad. I made then make a note on my paperwork that I came back for a replacement just incase they get funny after the 14 day returns policy.
Im upset as the handset has so many problems -
* Reply to sms takes forever.
* Camera takes pink pictures
* Bubble under the screen (Which is common from what I can tell)
* and now I can see a .5 mm black line at the right hand side of the screen from top to bottom!
I think HTC rushed this phone to market.
To be fair HTC said they would repair the unit but I don't want them taking it apart. It's a brand new phone and I want a replacement.
Rant over
If you had it for only one day, you can ask for a replacement as your not happy with the pinkness of the camera for example.

Got out of the car today when I pulled up the gym and had my Nexus One on my lap.
It fell.
The screen broke.
I'm sad.
Luckilly TMo insurance covers it through Asurion and the deductible is only $130.
If my stupid car dock had arrived on time today this would have never happened! LOL

about broken nexous oen
the funny thing is t mobile told me i could not get my n1
insured because i bought it from google and not in a tmobile store
they F*** lies Every time i talk to tmobile its a different story they are worthless
Silly question: did you have a screen protector on it or no? I'm guessing no since the screen broke, and any decent screen protector actually absorbs shock impacts and prevent a LOT of would-be cracks...
That damn on the lap thing gets a lot of peoples phones when they get out of the car...
My wife's dropped her tp2 like 5 times that way.. luckily.no broken screen...
I always check lap for this reason....
It's only the screen that broke?
If yes you can ask HTC to replace it with a brand new one(screen) for 100$ in case warranty didn't pay!
It's better than pay 600$ again
Was it in the slip in case that the phone comes with?
I always keep it in that and I have the feeling that would give it some good protection too. I bought a BSE (bestskinsever) full body protector, and I couldn't get used to it (not to mention it didn't slide out of the slip in case easily making it difficult to answer a call quickly) but I will use the screen protector.

When did you get yours, because I got mine at launch and they told me that same thing. However I kept checking back with T-Mobile, HTC, and Assurion everyday, until it was offered. I mean Assurion has Google as a supported manufacturer on their website specifically for the N1.
Update:
Asurion was actually PLEASANT to work with! They did ask some odd questions to "verify" that I wasn't trying to get a cheap/free phone from someone else's plan. I finished my claim last night at 6:30pm PST and my phone landed in Seattle from KY at 3:30AM today and left Redmond shipping center this morning at 6:45AM! Yay!
I'm still not going to get a screen protector or a case. I got my car dock so a case will make it not fit and slipping it on and off is not fun. Screen protectors have never sat well with me. I don't like the texture it adds. I have sweaty fingers/hands so most screen protectors are no bueno for me. I hadn't had a single drop since I got the phone in January so I don't think I'll have another one (I get drunk EVERY weekend too) plus i have the car dock now so no more lap drops!
Yeah I thought Asurion would be a pain in the ass but they were easy to work with (no connection to them lol). $130 deductible is very affordable.
sad story bro. too many times my phone has fallen due to getting out the car (off my lap/slips outta pocket) and everytime your heart hits the ground with it. after i got my n1 i basically trained myself to always have it in my hand before i open the car door.

it's been 24 hours since i used my evo, i'm still having a hard time shaking the feeling. yesterday on my way back from lunch to the office i parked in front to drop some things off, since i had a few things on my front pockets i didn't want to put my phone there, so i figure i'll put it on my back pocket for now. after dropping off the things, i jump back in my truck and i heard a funny sound, all i could do is look up and sigh hoping everything was ok, i pulled out my phone and everything seem fine at the time. when i got back inside my office i woke up my phone and that is when i discover my lcd was crushed and nothing was really visible. since is rooted im not sure if bb's black tie will still cover accidental, cuz im sure as soon as they fire it up they'll know and i'm afraid it will end up been rejected. before i send it off they asked if that was the only thing that was wrong i said yes, he goes on to tell me that will be the only thing they'll be doing and if there is another issue they will have to send it in again. i sure hope that's the only thing they do. if they rejected i found a few places where i can get it for $74.00 or so and i'll replaced my self. hope this goes quick, having to go back to my pre doesn't cease the feeling

you still wouldn't be able to replace that under warranty since it's physical damage. The only way you would get it replaced is through insurance, and insurance doesn't give a **** about rooted or non rooted.

unless they replace the screen, then they won't be able to figure it out. It would require taking it apart even more and checking gpu and ****. And i'm pretty sure they won't take it apart in the store. You'll most likely be fine, unless it gets flagged at their repair center or w/e.

what shows broken is the lcd passed the touch screen. I jump inside my truck so i guess that cracked it. when is asleep you can't tell there is anything wrong!
Thanks for the mounds of logic.
They cant tell the phone is rooted unless they plugged it in with usb and ran a view commands. Which is extremely rare for anyone to even do and they would just be doing it to be a **** if they did. I HIGHLY doubt they would even try to find out if you rooted it when you accidentally broke the screen. Its not like it was a problem like bluetooth or wifi not working (then rooting it could be the root of the problem). I personally wouldnt worry about it at all.
If it was Sprint you would just pay $100 and they send you a new one, sprint never sees it and all is well. I dont how best buy works.
You are correct there is no replacement cost. I work there as a second job. If it can be repaired they will send it off. If not they replace it with a new one. It is a great plan. The other issue I have no idea how they will handle it but I would not fret over it I believe you will be fine.

Best buy doesn't charge $150 for repair or replacement. They do however change a $150 deposit on loaner phones while yours has been sent out for repair. You get a refund when you return the loaner.

I keep my EVO in my back pocket also, and I've only come close to doing this once. But since I keep it there out of habit, its become second nature to take it out or move it to a front pocket whenever I sit down. I don't even think about it.
I can defiantly see how this could happen to someone who doesn't normally keep it there.
Best of luck op. I'm thinking black tie should cover you ok.

Title above sums it up. In all my years of owning smartphones and being so careful, I have never once smashed a screen through dropping it. Until a few weeks ago. My poor baby fell on the bathroom floor and shattered to pieces. It was ruined.
After many hours of googling, I found that there seems to be NO repair companies in the UK who will replace the screen, and whilst the glass portion can be purchased for under £10 on ebay, its an absolute nightmare to fit.
So reluctantly I contacted Motorola for a repair. After about a week of emails I was told to send it off to Germany and they'll take a look and give me a quote. Fortunately I managed to convince them to cover the postage cost for me :victory: :victory:
So off he went to Germany (yeah, my phones a he!). After what seemed like a lovely holiday of about 10 days (combination of sending it right over the easter bank holiday, and apparently very un-stereotypical German inefficiency) I got my quote back.
OUCH! :crying::crying: €238,04 - Around £180
FOR A SCREEN. ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY POUNDS...
Now I know its my own stupidity, and I can't complain because I'm the dumb idiot who dropped it in the first place, and didn't have a case on it. BUT WOW THATS MORE THAN I WAS EXPECTING.
Which gave me the dilemma of pay it, or sell off my old friend with a smashed screen and buy something else / one without a smashed screen.
I'm reluctantly agreeing to pay it, but I have just ordered a case and tempered glass protector. £30 protecting your phone screen is well worth it! Especially with this phone!

I wish I had a photo of mine when I broke it, the whole panel literally just shattered. I looked at repair tutorials, having repaired an old ipod back in the day, but I didn't want to go anywhere near repairing this.
At least this screen is better than the 2013 version. I don't even know how my 2013 screen cracked. I noticed no cracks when I got in the shower, then it had a huge crack when I got out of the shower. It was on the bathroom counter playing music. My only guess is that the steam from the shower cracked the glass. In all my days, I had never seen anything like it. I had done the same with phones and tablets before and after, but have only seen the problem from the Moto X 2013.
I just dropped mine last week and it was the first time I ever cracked a screen. Moto told me it would be estimated at $125 to fix and sent me a replacement before I sent them the one I broke. They actually cancelled the charge!
Have you got house insurance, as with mine I it covers a certain amount of cash on items outside the home.
Okay, well after about 2 weeks, I have now received an email saying that it could not be repaired and that I will be sent a new one!
Should have an X code tomorrow and I will be able to design a whole new one! I'm willing to accept the delay for a free redesign, I had 2nd thoughts about the white front.
Wow good news!
How long had you had your phone?

I've had it since November of last year, so about 5 months. Still no X-Code from them yet, and the wait is killing me. But Red and Black Moto X is what I'm going for this time

and, did you get a new phone? how much did they charge?
(just broke my display, just the display, not the outer glass)

Sorry yeah, I got the new one. Really love the colours! They did it for the cost of the repair. I don't think its common policy in the UK though, as customer service seemed unaware of the concept of an x code.

In the USA, I paid $125 and they sent me a refurb phone with my customizations and after receiving that "new" phone I sent back the broken one.
Fyi, my screen was pretty much destroyed (unusable).
Very good service (although I think they need that level of service when I have since cracked the replacement from a 16" fall out of my pocket).
I received my phone back from eGlobal after waiting two months for the screen to be fixed (had to go back to China).
Upon unpacking it, I immediately noticed the uneven oled. It's very hard to photograph, but there is a rectangular bulge and generally looks very uneven. Compared to my wife's s7e and it's totally smooth.
Do you think they used a non-samsung screen replacement (if this exists) or is it just a shabby install job?
Apart from some flickering when switching it on (for about a minute), I haven't noticed any issues. The unevenness is only visible from certain angles. However, the resell value has taken a hit, and I'm afraid it won't last if the screen is some cheap no-brand.
What's your take on it?

Sorry what? I'd get it repaired again. This is one reason why I never buy overseas units, just in case the repairs take long
Wow doesn't seem like an "official" repair to me. I doubt Samsung would approve that.
When I got my Galaxy S3 screen repaired back in the days, it came back perfect (except for the few scratches the plastic back cover already had). No fingerprints or dirt. The screen looked as good as what you would get with a brand new, out of the box, phone
I wouldn't accept the repair. Should be as it was new or near enough. But the flickering you mention sounds like a big no no. At least make a complaint. Don't feel you need to put up with shoddy work. Hard to see from your pictures though.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes, that's another thing - it was covered in fingerprints and dirty marks, and the boxed is completely scratched.
Total amateurs.
I complained about it, so let's see if they respond. I assume not.
As predicted I am now being ignored by eGlobal
Here is a better picture of the lumpy screen:

That's why is better to have damage cover and phone replaced in case of accident than screen replaced by some dodgy company. In newest phones is very difficult to have screen replaced properly. I wouldn't accept this repair at all. Ask for refund, or re repair.
Shabby job

I didn't pay anything as it's less than 6 months so still under warranty.
However, lots of hassle sending back to retailer in China only to be told a month later that it's a manufacturer fault and that they will need to send it to the manufacturer.
I doubt they did that - an official Samsung repair centre anywhere in the world would not "fix" the phone to such a low standard.
Screen was dead, so I assume they replaced the oled display. How they can do it so badly is beyond me.
On top of being cosmetically ugly now, it is lagging like crazy. Every 20 seconds there is a 3 second delay regardless what you are doing. Even after I factory reset it. Disaster.
I'm now looking at being without my phone for another two months - if they take it back at all. So far no luck getting a response.

I had a defected S7E but it was like a week old, didn't agree with fixing it asked for exchanged right on the spot, after a month got Samsung approval for an exchange or money return. As i understand you can do this all 2 year of warranty. Even if the shop if Samsung approved I would never trust it's water resistance.

they probably replace the lcd , and use back your same glass , no samsung standard is not like that , because they will replace the whole screen set for you , much easier and fuss free
That's nasty. Get the guy to redo it.
Your phone has been repaird (terrebly wrong) by just replacing the glass and then glued again to the lcd. Or they replaced your screen with a refurb.
