O hai!
I'm trying to update my friends samsung galaxy spica.
When i connect the phone to the computer, it wont connect the device to kies.
It just says Connecting the device, please wait.
It's been like that for 15minutes. Anyone else who have had the same problem and knows how to fix it?
I'm using windows 7.

As far as i know Kies only supports Android 2.x. For upgrading download Samsung New PC Studio, latest version supports this phone (upgrade only). You may have to install it in Vista compatibility mode. But I don't think it'll find an upgrade yet.
New PC Studio will support your phone, lastest version is 1.5.x.x. Works fine with android 1.5 and 1.6
don't forget some antivirus blocked connection..
so the better way is disable your antivirus and use KIES (must android 2.1)
I've got android 2.x and i've got the same problem but i don't care because i prefere upgrade by Odin.

Hi,i have the same problem. When i try to connect the Spica to the NPS or Kies he doesn't recognize the phone memory, just the mass storage.
I have Eclair.
How can i make to recognize the phone memory?
And the other question is : How can i put my Spica to recovery mode to install some themes.
When connecting your spica with kies you may need to set your spica to enable debugging mode. Settings> applications> development> check usb debugging.. Your phone will now be recognize by kies..
On mass storage, notice that when you connect your phone to the computer via usb you see an icon on the notification area? Open the notification and tap on usb. Tap on mount on a window that will appear.. That should connect ur memory card..

THANK YOU This has been a BIG HELP to me
I was having the same problem of connectivity ,but it was for ipod . I waited and waited and it did no connect. I referred a software shop but the problem was with the connecting usb or the window. I suggest you to check for these two first. Then move on the other options. These sets don't have much problems with their software or hardware. It is just the eternal support which some times is missing for them.
For me it was impossible to update my 1.5 phone with kies ore samsung new pc studio. I also tried kies mini.
I did work on this for two days without success.
The final solution was using odin 4.3 with a firmware downloaded from
h t t p://www.samfirmware.com/
I was also updating from 1.6 (stock) to 2.1 (stock) with ODIN.
I do not recommend using samsung (crap) software.

Hi,
I just got my Samsung I9000 today (also my first time ever using Android) and about 3 hours ago, when I first connected the phone to my PC, it has the usb icon on the notification bar, and saying that running something kies (which at that moment I had no idea what i meant).
Later on, I know about Samsung Kies so I download it to my PC in the hope of syncing Outlook - I9000... but when I connect the phone to my USB port, it only make some sounds, then saying that its charging, but in the device manager its saying as "Unrecognised USB device"... while in the Setting/About Phone/USB Setting I already pick the option kies/ask on connect.
I use Windows 7 32bit Ultimate, phone firmware 2.1-update1, kernel 2.6.29 if that helps at all...
Could someone please:
1. Tell me how to fix this problem, so I can sync my phone with Kies?
2. How I can sync Kies with Outlook?
3. Tell me what is the equivalents of Tasks in Android?
Thanks

Hi gurluver!
I also had this problem today.. but i fixed it.
I dont know what it was of the things i did but.. try the following..
1. Remove externa sdcard if you have any (or turn it of in the settings menu, i removed mine).
2. Restart the phone!
3. Restart KIES
4. plug i the phone.
I did both and it worked, and when it got connected in KIES i put back the external sdcard.
GL
I had the problem of not being able to see either the internal storage or the SD card when my phone was connected by USB to Windows 7 (64 bit).
Even after I installed the drivers in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705898&highlight=windows+7+usb I still couldn't get it working.
Then I fixed it by going into the notifications on the phone, selecting the 'usb connection' one, and a box popped up asking if I wanted to mount the cards. Chose mount and it started working!
KIES will not detect the phone unless it is set to KIES connection under Settings>About Phone>USB settings.
Having a custom launcher like Launcher Pro will also cause the device to not be detected by KIES.
I simply keep the phone usb settings to "Mass Storage". When i plug the phone into the pc, from the notification bar, select usb connection and then click on "Mount". This is a faster way to getting stuff across over to the phone rather than KIES.
Some of you may already know / have noticed this, but to those of you who haven't...
If you are having problems whereby Kies does not "see" your phone when connected via USB in Kies mode, check the following:
Kies does NOT work if the phone's USB setting is "Ask on connection". To get Kies to work (and the MTP app to launch on the phone) the phone MUST be on the homescreen (not in a menu / launcher list) and MUST have the USB set to Kies Mode BEFORE connecting the USB cable.
... I hope that helps some of you

I had to change the COM port to a high number (in my case 50) to stop having problems with Keis.
Hi
where did you change COM port?

I don't think that is the solution for all.
Here - USB setting is "Ask on connection" and Kies works without problems.
So it may help but it surely is not necessary to get a working Kies connection.
According to most report I read, Kies only has problem on 64 bits Windows OS

I've only been able to connect to kies if I connect the usb cable BEFORE kies is launched. I ensure it's closed first, closed in the systray too, the tw is my default home screen (closing adw)
and then connect usb cable. Once I get "conmected" on the phone's screen, then I launch kies. Same for both xp-32 and w7-64. I have "ask on connection" enabled.

64 bits not working properly
Hi,
Here are my findings with the Kies connection problems:
Kies does not seem to work properly on Windows 7 64 bits. I tried it on two different computers, but no luck. The third computer I tried which runs on a 32 bits version of Windows worked immediately.
Kies over Wifi works on 64 bits, but you cannot upgrade your phone OS firmware.

I only have a problem if i use anything but the stock data cable. But I haven't used standard Kies in months, and tried Kies Air and found it took too long to do anything useful. Droid Explorer works way better, And if you do a search, there's even a few even more user friendly alternatives to Kies other than Droid Ex.
Hi,
EDIT * I have found a solution in that I can connect via WI fi so that's pretty good but if anyone can help me with the USB issue, it would still be appreciated. It seems that the Wi Fi connection is more limited as I am unable to view things in explorer *
hoping to get some help using my USB to connect to my PC. I've installed Kies but when I try to connect to my PC it just keeps on trying to connect but never actually does it.
I have looked for guidance on this but keep coming across the instructions to go into 'about phone > USB settings' etc etc. However, I do not have a USB settings in about phone. In fact, there is nothing at all about USB in About Phone. I do have a 'USB Utilities' in Wireless and Networks but all that gives me the option to do is 'Connect Storage to PC'. I have a memory card in my phone.
When I do connect to the USB cable, with Kies open, when windows 'finds new hardware' it keeps saying a problem occurred during installation.
Please can anyone help me out? All I want to do is basically drag and drop some files from my PC to my phone. Thanks very much for your help.
Settings --> Applications -- Development --> USB debugging.
Thanks for that!
It got me a little further. I also unmounted then remounted the SD card. However, when I try to connect via kies I now get the message:
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to re click the USB settings on the phone before connecting to Kies now that it's installed the hardware on my PC?

Turn off USB-Debugging
Don't connect phone yet
Open Kies
Open the Tools menu -> Troubleshoot connection error
Go through the guide and let it reinstall the drivers.
Connect you phone, and let it connect
The default setting has the USB debugging tick greyed out. When I select it, it asks me if I want to allow debugging.
Do you mean that I shouldn't allow debugging and then connect (after reinstalling Kies) or should I allow it and connect? Sorry for my noobishness, Android is all completely new to me.
You should untick the USB-debugging - Then reinstall drivers NOT entire Kies
OK, it's unticked and I'm reinstalling the drivers via troubleshooting.
Do I need to unmount then remount the SD card before connecting my phone? Thanks for your help btw.
Shouldn't make a difference
Bah, I still have the same problem. It just says that there was a problem installing the hardware when I plugged in the phone.
After reinstalling the drivers, i shut down Kies then reopened it. I then plugged in the USB and then plugged the USB into my phone.
When I first installed Kies yesterday, Microsoft Active Sync kept on trying to activate and ask for a CD. It kept on holding up Kies. In the end I uninstalled Active Sync. Also, I still have Samsung PC Studio on my PC from when I had a Samsung a few years ago. It was one of those old slider phones, not a smart phone. Could that be part of the problem? I was hoping to keep it because it's proved to have the best media player I've ever had.
I just don't know what I'm doing wrong here.
Try without restarting Kies.
What part of the drivers aren't installed? (Check device manager)
In Device Manager, under Portable Devices there's something called Android MTP that has an exclamation mark next to it. It says it's not configured correctly and that 'No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device'. I'll reinstall the Kies drivers now.
Thanks for this help mljjlm
P.S. Now that I've unplugged the phone, the MTP thing isn't showing in the device manager list anymore.

Of course, it's a part of the phone, and it should not be plugged in because they would have to force a reboot when reinstalling drivers (which might sort your problem btw)
Reinstalled the Kies Drivers and then plugged in my phone but got the same problem. It says a problem occurred. Same device now has a problem in device manager. Maybe I should just uninstall everything and restart? Should I uninstall the old PC studio too?
Just try the reboot without uninstalling anything and then plug the phone in when your pc has booted
Argh! Still didn't work! I think there must be a problem with my PC, well, I'll try doing full uninstalls and reinstall it all. I have to go now as well so I'll have to try again tomorrow.
Thanks very much for your patience mljjlm. It has been greatly appreciated
Are you trying to just transfer files back and forth? If so... forget using Kies.
(I don't have a micro-USB cable with me currently, so this is all from memory)
Just remove the drivers from your device manager so it's like your machine has never seen your phone before. Then on your phone enable usb-debugging.
When you then plug in your phone, you should get a usb icon up top on your phone's display... pull the window-shade down and click on the USB connection button. You should get a fullscreen window on your phone that says something like USB Connection with the friendly android waiving.
Now your PC should see your phone as a standard USB mass storage device.
try plugging the usb cable in another usb port on your computer and than try again.

You're using Kies, that's what you're doing wrong. You said in your very first post you wanted to be able to drag and drop some files from your PC to your phone, so use USB debugging (say yes when it asks you) and Windows Explorer.
If you are using a custom rom like Checkrom Revolution you will need to install the kies support from kitchen pro.
Also are you using the cable that came with your phone?
I have found a few microUSB cables that will allow charge and wont allow data transfer like the new ones for nokia devices and some blackberrys.
It worked! The USB debugging thing!
Thanks to everyone who helped me out. The forum said I was limited to 5 thanks per day so if you didn't get one of the thanks I apologise. Thanks very much!
i am currently using S2 i9100g. When i connected my s2 to the pc, it failed to find the driver/ install it.
How to solve this problem?
i've tried using :
-Enable usb debugging from Menu > Settings > Applications
-return to home screen
-plug usb cable in
-pull down status bar
-press ‘ connect usb storage’ button
or try this method:
Alternatively, without USB debugging enabled
Go to Settings > Wireless & Network > USB utilities and click the button > then (and ONLY then) plug in USB cable
But it still doesnt work for me
*I don have SD card on my phone, so does that means that i can't connect my s2 using cable to my PC (Vista)??
Do you have Kies installed?
u mean having kies installed in the pc or phone???
i got it in my phone already
Download and install kies on your pc from Samsung website. then connect your phone and will install the drivers.
If it shows i9100 or Galaxy S2 with a yellow triangle you need Google ADB driver. You may have to force the driver to install.
thanks guys.. all i need to do is just download kies to PC.. im new to android.. sorry
PC cannot recognize SG2
Hi,
I'm using i I9100G, after upgrade to DZKJ2, my PC cannot recognize the phone, it always show unknown device and cannot find the correct driver to install...
Tried on 3pc, with Kies install and reinstall, not working...
Anyone can help?
Thanks.
i think the new firmware DZKJ2 make PC cannot recognize the phone..me too have this prob after upgrade to new firmware..
i recently upgraded my firmware via Kies to 2.3.6. i was all good but a problem has occured. I connected my tablet to pc via USB but there was no notification that it is USB connected. I cant access my tablet files here in my pc, cant select mass storage or samsung kies, im pretty sure that the usb cable is not a problem because the battery icon in the notification part becomes battery with thunder symbol. please help, thanks
Try this:
-Try reboot your tab, or
-Reinstall Kies on your PC, or
-Search on the configurations>conections>usb
You can always access via WiFi browse and download upload ad well, backup with drop box your images automatically add well.
But sounds like driver issues ad well so what Sam said is best uninstall and reinstall that or plug USB into different v port
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Try driver update, if it doesn't work, go for re-installing...
