For the past 4 weeks I had HTC send me 2 replacement batteries and T-mobile sent me two replacement phones (one with a new battery), and my phone still overheats (over 100 degrees).
I swaping all my microsdhc and even took it out, and did notsolve the problem either.
The only thing left is the Sim card. Is it possible for a sim card to cause this? This is getting extremely frustrating.
The good thing is both HTC and TMobile have been really understanding, if not...I would be on other carrier with a different phone.
Jason
The sim is just a storage chip with a tiny amount of data on.. it doesn't actively do anything. It must be caused by something else.. is your phone overheating while charging or connected by usb, or does it happen all the time?
Only when I use the phone (talk, gps, edge, or wifi...FYI, I'm only running one at a time) it overheats.
Anyway, I just got my new sim and the back looks differnet than the one I got in November.
I have to say my phone runs cooler w/o the sim.
If you want to monitor the temp of your phone, download the Y-mobile "My Account" from the market, and check the battery status.

My phone is always over 100 degrees F, right now it's 102 and reaches over 112 easily
It seems pretty normal to me, the phone never shuts off or anything
My biggest regret is how slow this stupid thing is, you figure it being able to cook eggs would mean it's got some nice horsepower but this thing makes me wish I waited for the new palm OS

It also LOVES to double post as you can see
That's a triple post.....
Nah, I made that last post afterwards I didn't edit the post, although I wouldn't be surprised to hit a triple or even the elusive "super-quad" with this dumb thing
same problem here
I was going through the same thing. I mostly ran into this when I was using my fone as a thether. I kinda got worried so I contacted tmo andhtc and they said that it will get hot like that because of the wifi running as well as my screen never timing out. To top it all I was tethering through the usb. So it easly ran up to 115F. When it got that high I would jus bull out the battery and leave the back off for about 5 mins. If u run into this issue while ur fone is doing little or no activity then worry but if ur using data or multiple apps at once then its no biggie.
Aw jeez, I went to check setcpu and my post went bye bye
So a high temp all the time ISN'T normal?
I got:
JF 1.51 ADP
SetCPU 128/528
Advanced Task Manager, and I tend to keep everything killed besides aHome and Better Keyboard
I don't see any problems besides it giving me third degree burns and setting whatever I place it on on fire, goes slow hot or cold too
SetCPU
128/528 is a big jump, why not use default 384/528? Might help some of your performance issues.
Just a thought.
I thought it scaled itself accordingly and only went to 128 when I'm not running anything or the screen's off to save battery?

It doesnt scale instantly.. cyanogen's done some init.rc mods to help this in his newer builds but theres always a reaction time between opening an app and the speed ramping up.
My properly configured g1 is pretty damn fast for a mobile device.. It sounds like you're ranting on about a problem you caused through lack of research. Good work.

What new palmOS?
PalmOS is dead and isn't coming back unless someone picks up Access Linux (which is said to have a palmOS Garnet 6 VM only for legacy palmOS support), but that doesn't seem likely as they've been pushing it as stable for years and have yet to sell it to anybody. It is now also pointless to support legacy palmos apps since *virtually nobody* has been developing for that platform since it died a few years ago.
This new thing that palm is selling... is not palmos. Its "webos" and is basically what apple phone v1 was and what chromeos sounds like it will be... i.e. no locally installed apps (except phone stuff) - all apps are net apps.

While I doubt it's the cause of the overheating, SIM chips are more than just passive storage. They do contain processors and can perform calculations (one of the main functions of SIMs in phones is to provide cryptographic computation for network access.

My phone only gets warm when I'm tethering, charging or downloading large files over 3G.

Ha. Snotty comments are the price you pay for getting help from geeks.
Enjoy the outside world.. I'll just sit here getting progressively more pale-skinned and bitter as I cry into my coffee about my ever worsening social isolation, dolefully masturbating into an old sock over thoughts of the ladies nipples I'll never see. Because that's what we do.

Overheating
My phone got up to 102 once. It was from having it set at 583 MHz constant. I took it out of my pocket and almost dropped it because it was hot. Also as someone said earlier, it gets very hot while tethering. Any prolonged data use will cause it to heat up. I don't think it's really anything to worry about though. I'd imagine that it would cut off before any sort of damage could occur
Got this link froma SprintUsers twitter, its the Moment with a ASTC TV Antena. Watching live TV. Is it possible the hero could have similar capablitiy? Looks like the extra hardware has to be purchased.

My wife had one, battery litterally lasted 3 hours sitting on the end table, not being touched. Went through 4 batteries and 2 phones. All the same. WOO HOO 800 mhz processo! but you can only use it for 30 minutes.

Well... I have had my iphone4 for about a day or so.
I am not happy at all. The cons out weigh the pros.
I hold my phone in the bottom left corner alot and low and behold my signal drops like a rock. I have had about 8 dropped calls in the last two days. I plan to return my phone to ATT.
Here is a video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfVaUFD5CKo
I can record in 720p video, but can not upload 720p from my iphone4 to youtube directly. I have to sync with my cable and upload videos to youtube from my desktop.
Can someone confirm that you can upload 720p videos to youtube from the HTC EVO4g? If so will it work over 4g, 3g, or wifi only or ALL?
I am just not impressed enough with the iphone4.
yeah you can easily upload720 p video right from the device, and if you use 4g youll be done in no time especially if its a long video. here is one that i uploaded immediately after i finished shooting it...
I recorded a video and uploaded to YouTube but it would only upload over WiFi.
I do not have 4g to test but it seems it would probably upload over 4g

If it's an HD video, I think you can upload over 4G or wifi, 3g, 4g and wifi for low rez videos.
Be careful with that iphone, don't put it anywhere besides in a padded gun safe, it might break before you take it back.

And with that, we are seeing 40 - 55 fps, again, only half of what we should get. Please be aware that this is experimental, plus any custom kernel right now will not have a working camera. Toast and Maejrep have gotten most of the other sensors working, but again, this is experimental... play at your own risk.
Kykiskly did you see my latest post in your droidx dump thread here in General?
I know this has been said again and again, but I just have to put my opinion out there..
To realize what provoked this thread see here and a benchmark test on youtube where the evo gets pwnt by the nexus one and droid x on so many levels.
HTC claims that the reason EVERY other android phone can get twice as much frames per second as us is because they don't have an HDMI port..
Did they really think that was gonna fly?
I'd gladly never use my hdmi port to have smooth as butter 60FPS.. and to set the record straight we DO notice the difference.
At the very least they could have imposed the limit only when content is being output via hdmi!
I cannot understand how they thought we'd sit back and allow this.
Android is the home of nerds, enthusiasts, overclockers, benchmarkers and rom chefs.
This isn't the typical iphone userbase, we notice a lack of performance and inefficiency.
Both of which our phones are in no short supply of..
Our tests and kernel tweaks have proved that this DEFECT can be bypassed, so why are they still going on about hardware limitations?
How come our PREMIUM phones that we have to pay an extra 10 bucks per month just to own, can't even catch up to the very first android phone (G1) in terms of 2D FPS?
How come everybody else is capable of 60fps while we with our "revolutionary multimedia phones" can't even churn out anything past 30FPS without tweaks, and hacks, and best of all voiding our warranties.
It's ****ing blasphemy I tell you.
How about a rom that allows for disabling of hdmi?
I don't know just how ingrained it is with the snapdragon CPU or more likely the gpu, but it's surely possible.
I mean how many of us would've gotten these phones if we knew it was either hdmi or 60fps?
Hdmi has nothing to do with the cap.

HDMI is their excuse isn't it, Droid X has HDMI will it always be limited to 30FPS?
Personally, I'd rather loose battery life and HDMI (never going to use that ****) output for no lag and better performance.
At least give us the option, HTC.
For the most part HDMI out, is a "feature for friends".
I don't think that many of us are ACTUALLY using this often.
I mean it's nice to have and i'm sure it can come into handy one day, but not at this expense!

I don't really understand why I'd use hdmi. This thing isn't pushing out .mkv files is it?
And you better believe I'm not spending extra money on a fancy mini hdmi cord. F that.
Take out the hdmi, give me a freaking Ethernet port instead Haha. Id prolly use that at least once, which will be more than I ever use hdmi.
(Actually come to think of it 4g to wired Ethernet tether for devices that don't support usb tether would be rather slick.)
Now that HTC fixed the grounding issue on the phone with the OTA update, my attention is now completely on the FPS issue. This is really frustrating. I have 5 days left to return my phone and I am really trying to figure out what to do. I don't want to go to Verizon because it's more expensive and I'm still in contract until Oct if I return the Evo. $50 ETF isn't a huge deal though. I've never been an apple fan and have never personally owned an iPhone but when you put the Evo next to Apple's latest, the screen choppiness really shows. It makes me mad. It makes me feel like the Evo is still behind the iPhone (when on paper is was not at all).
Look, I'm not sitting here saying that 30FPS is making my phone crappy and less enjoyable. The thought of getting duped by HTC is what bothers me. HTC sold us something on paper, and delivered something else. Isn't that called bait and switch?
Another problem is that none of the Sprint sales people, HTC customer service reps, or Best Buy/RS employees know enough about FPS to realize what it has done to our "wicked fast" phone. They look at us like we're crazy. I was describing the grounding issue to my local RS sales guy and he was giving me a look like I was being a baby about it.
Even though the 30 fps cap is still there the new update has gotten rid of all the screen lag I've had in sense and the browser.

The motion blur you see when you swipe screens or scroll in the browser is a result of 30FPS. I still have it after the update. Use a nexus one or droid and you'll see the difference. It's very noticeable side-by-side. Sure, I don't see it when I'm using my phone. My brain gets used to it. The problem is that phones that have been out for 12 months have better screen motion than we do with our "wicked fast" phone.
meh at least we don't have to deal with this:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=954054
Wow! Seems pretty widespread... That really sucks. On top of that, they have to deal with the manipulations as Apple tries to dodge the complaints.

I am by no means a cellphone guru or even close. I am a mechanical engineer by schooling. However I just started thinking, in my Inc. I have an accelerometer that puts out a signal (weak) I know but why can't that be harnessed to charge my cell as I walk.?
Sent from my Droid Incredible CM7 using XDA Premium App
The accelerometer probably wouldn't do it - I'm nto quite sure how it works but I wouldn't have thought of that. They could always add some of those thigns they ahve for wristwatches to give it a bit of juice throughout the day. Although maybe that wouldn't even be enough because those watches stop working if you dont wear them for like 2 days haha
Highly doubt that the amount they would put out would be even 1% of the energy draw the Dinc uses even in idle.

The accelerometer in the Inc isn't a mechanical device - it's basically a digital gyro, and it doesn't generate a signal or voltage in of itself. It's called a MEMS gyroscope and though it uses some of the same principles as a vibrating structure gyroscope, it's constructed via lithograph (read: printed as in CPU) and packaged as a self contained chip.
I think even if they did place something in the phone to help charge it while moving / walking that there is no way it would actually produce usable energy. Maybe walking 1 mile = 5 seconds of phone-on time.
We need better battery technology.
Or solar panels. I read on Engadget a couple weeks/months ago that phones would come standard with solar panels in late 2012ish. IMHO not gonna happen, but hey only two years ago Android was nowhere.
