--im on a family right now and the line that i want to uprade is due for one on feb 28...i called tmobile and they said that to get the nexus one u have to be on a single line (which i knew)...i asked if i can take the line due for an upgrade out but they said that it wouldnt work because switchin that line into a single line would reset my upgrade (with would unable me to get the nexus one)....i only talked to one representative but if this is true does anybody know a way around this?
i was in same situation..
over the next 2 years, you'll pay less if you just buy the phone outright.
Are you due for an upgrade because you're not on contract anymore? If so, why not just cancel that line and get a new number? Then get a GVoice number...that way you can always give out the same number.

I was told from a Sprint store that I should port my number when I purchase the phone instead of getting a new number and then porting it at a later time otherwise it can have issues with 4G connectivity. Is this true? Thanks.
If possible, call your current phone provider and tell them that you will be requesting to port your number when you activate your Sprint.
Last time I had sprint, i ported my number after activating a new number and it was a TRAINWRECK aka constant phonecalls to Customer Service, the ****ty automated machines and being put on hold for half and hour at a time.
This was also during the time period where the systems were down every day and they weren't able to port my number for almost a week.
I don't think porting your number would affect the usability of 4G/3G data, but doing it while opening the line will (hopefully) save you some headache.
Vince, I would recommend NOT calling, only because I've seen some people *try* to do what Neon mentioned, and the idiot reps on the other end of the phone canceled the account on them, losing the number.
Honestly, if you bring your bill and account number with you when you pick up the phone, porting in Sprint's system is easy. Toddler level easy. I've never had an issue with a port, other than when someone gave me the wrong account number.
As for getting a temp number and porting later? It's possible, but remember that you WILL need to wipe your phone to get it working "correctly". 9 times out of 10, a simple reprogramming of the phone won't solve all your issues. I personally recommend porting at the time of sale, to avoid any issues.
I was planning to activate the Epic on a new line to see if I like it, then if all goes well, get my old Sprint number moved over to the Epic. I have a BB Curve right now, with a sweet legacy plan. In case things don't go well with the Epic, I don't want to lose that plan. While it sounds like that could be difficult, I don't see a better way.
Any suggestions?

Yes, but you would have to return the Epic opened on the new line and upgrade the line you actually want the Epic on
Quick Scenario you guys,. was hoping to receive some help.
2 lines, (they are mine)
1 is an iPhone 4, Not upgrade eligible.
the other is a 3Gs , eligible for an upgrade.
Question-
could you, buy the phone using the eligibility from the 3GS line, THEN when it comes in the mail, don't touch the 3Gs at all. and just take the Sim out of the iPhone 4 and put that into the Atrix 4G.
Will the 3Gs line be touched at all, or what i mean is, do i need to do anything in the background with ATT Customer support?
(i guess im thinking this would be like a verizon activation)
Can i just take the Sim out of the iPhone 4 and start going?
my suggestion would be to complete the transaction in a company owned retail location, theres less chance for something getting messed up
When the iPhone 4 came out I added a line to my plan and got the iPhone for the new contract pricing. I had to put data on the new line because every smartphone requires data. Anyway, right there in the store I told them I wanted to use it under the other line (my main line) so they put my main line info into a new micro sim chip and put it into the iPhone. So I was now using the iPhone on the line that wasn't upgrade eligible!! Noting changed on my main line. A few days later I called customer service and told them I wanted to remove the data plan from the second line because it wasn't being used by a smartphone...so they asked me what phone was being used on the line instead so I gave them the imei number of a feature phone I had. They didn't give me a hard time at all!
When the Captivate came out since I was still within the 30 days I returned the iPhone and got the Captivate still under my main line with nothing changed and they gave me a new sim card.
The same process should work for you, but I don't know if you'll have issues using the micro sim on the Atrix.
I would suggest just getting a new sim to use with the atrix rather than using adapters
Well the atrix is going to SHIP with a Sim right?
is it already going to be formatted for a certain line?
Shouldn't i be able to activate it for any line that i want?
If you buy it in store or if it's an upgrade I don't think they give a sim card because you can easily use your current sim card. You're gonna use the 3GS line to get the upgrade price, when you get the phone just pop in the sim card of your iPhone 4 and that should work just fine. The only issue you might have is the fact that the iPhone 4 uses a micro sim. You can keep using the 3GS just like you have been all along even though you ordered the Atrix under that line, that's the benefit of having sim cards!!

Go to a Corp store, this is exactly what I did on the iPhone 4 launch and they have absolutely no problem with it at all. They'll get you setup with the right sim cards and won't change you anything extra.
Im doing this same thing right now, so I might be able to help.
last year in September, I use another line on a family plan to upgrade to the Captivate. I upgraded rhat line, but put my sim card in.
Keep in mind I just used the 2 year upgrade. Now I can upgrade MY line (the one im using the smartphone now) and im going to upgrade that to... maybe the Atrix.
I will have 2 smartphones, both using the same data plan (gotta call and make sure) and just switch the SIM.
Art works plans by sims, not bu phones. Using a line tto upgrade doesn't affect the line or plan. Just the upgrade time; that is, if you have a compatible line for the phone already.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
Just tell them you want to do a "shared upgrade" . You can do it at a reseller or a corporate store. I'm doing mine at radio shack.
Shared upgrade lets you use a upgrade from one line on the account and use it on another. I think you have to be the account holder though.
I have done this numerous times with our 4 person group plan.
This is what i did, tho not with iphones on the lines lol.
Your second line(the one with the upgrade) should NOT be touched at all besides it being renewed.

I have the same scenario. I preordered using the 2nd line that have a 3gs. I current also have a iphone 4. Im going to the store first thing because I don't lose my unlimited plan. These AT&T CS don't know anything and they might mess things up if you call. The odd thing is that currently the line I used to upgrade have an expiration date on the iphone unlimited plan (expire 4/2011). Im worry about that part. They better not kick me off.
I really want to upgrade to s4 now!
I am in att 3 lines family plan right now
so the problem is my line is not eligible for an upgrade until Jun 22,2013
but I can't wait anymore.
so anyone done this before?? online chat or call the customer services?
how should I talk to them so they will change that date for me ?
if anyone done this please give me some idea. thanks
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok update, they not able to change the upgrade dates for me online. so I guess I have to call
I mean is that possible to do that? just call them to change the upgrade date? anyone done that before?
I live in Puerto Rico and AT&T here lets you upgrade 6 months before the contract term ends, this is in a 2 year contract. But I only learned that because I went to the store and asked about it, so I guess you can give it a shot.
Sent from my AT&T Samsung Galaxy SIII...if you were wondering...
Call up att rep and tell them that u talked to someone before on phone and they told you that you can upgrade. The rep will most likely give u upgrade over the phone. I did six months earlier for note 2 & my next one is due on November but I will get s4 in may again six months earlier

Your best bet is to call in & hope u get lucky with a rep/manager that's able to help you out. Be nice & courteous since it will go a long ways. Try again if it doesn't work a few times. Worst case is to say u will leave if u don't get it but should be last case.
Best of luck to you!

I have a 4 line account and my line was not eligible for upgrade. I was able to use another lines upgrade, but AT&T told me their policy has changed for this and if you are upgrading to a smartphone, the line you are using the upgrade from also needs to have smartphone data attached to it. In my case I did not, so they wanted me to add data to that line at $20 a month. I said no way, I will just port my lines to another carrier and they finallty caved. The policy just changed last week is what they told me so I have no way of knowing if its true. I hate using the "I'll leave" tactic but when it comes to me spending money monthly for something I have no problem dropping and switching to someone else. I go through it every year when my cable TV promo expires too, LOL.
Messaged VZW On FB. Asked about my "upgrade" since we are almost forced to change phones. Was told if I downgrade aka upgrade to a s7 edge I would waste my upgrade. And be locked into the device agreement on that phone. Then asked about the yearly Galaxy upgrade she send me the link and after reading into it we are no longer eligible. As of 9/10/16 we cannot be apart of this. Took a screenshot of it. So I expressed my feelings to vzw. They didn't have much to say about wasting a downgrade and if we would be eligible for early upgrade due to our situation. Might go to BB For that TV. And the $100 for swapping to another Samsung.
I never knew this was a thing. And now I'm sad. They're really going to have to re-think our ineligibility now that we're being forced to switch devices. They should really honor the original purchase date on the first round of Note 7s so that people who pre-ordered or received a Note 7 before the 9/10/16 date would be included if they ended up switching to an S7 or S7E because of the recall.
Exactly why I'm not giving up my note 7. We essentially get screwed over. It's bullish!t
Use the carrier switching technology..
Switch to Tmobile or ATT and then switch back.. Yes a bit of hassle but you get a new phone of your choice..
This does not apply to people on the older (read unavailable/legacy) plans..
Yes there's always that option lol!
I ordered the S7 Edge thinking I was good to upgrade in a year. When I saw this I called to cancel and the Verizon rep said even if I took the S7 as my upgrade I'd still be eligible to upgrade later at any time because they haulted/ saved all upgrades due to the recall. I asked if he could email that to me, he said he can't email out but would save the notes and give me his user Id. I went ahead and canceled anyway, screw the useless credits, I want my Note and the ability to upgrade later.
I just left a store, I went to inquire about swapping out to a s7 edge or possibly a note 5. My question was if say in 3 months a phone came out that I actually wanted, would I be able to upgrade without penalty.
So after chatting for about 5 minutes with the manager, I don't get an answer to my actual question, but am told that I can call customer service and I "SHOULD" be able to upgrade to a s7e with no penalty for this swap. However if i wanted to (upgrade in store) I would have to pay the balance of my note 7 up to half of the total value.
WHAT!
So for a DOWNGRADE I don't want, that I'm basically being forced to take I would have to pay off half the phone you say I must return to you?

Ya, I have read to many accounts of people walking in, getting a 2nd phone and leaving with both (to wait on a fireproof shipping container for n7) only paying an upgrade fee or taxes, to be returned upon receipt of n7.
I truly hate vzw, but where I live / work there is no other viable option.
Yeah there is no right answer at this point. They're just blowing smoke up our azz's until something gets figured out. The tech I talked to basically agreed with everything I said, first saying he too had a note 7 and also cancelled the order, then later said he might cancel the order. I find it hard to believe that after accepting an upgrade I'll still magically have another upgrade available to use anytime I want. If that were the case I could just keep upgrading over and over. What's the upgrade limit, will we be able to keep our original upgrade eligibility date from when we bought and activated our Note 7, what actually happens if we decide not to upgrade right now... These are the golden questions.
I've been waiting a while for a worthwhile promotion/phone to replace my Note 4, and I noticed the promotion that started yesterday offering BOGO for the S8/S8+/Note 8. I'm on a plan with two lines that's ridiculously cheap at $50/mo and the second person really does not have a need for such an extravagant phone so I was wondering if I could get the second phone and simply sell it? There's some mumbo jumbo about activating both phones on your account but I can't imagine t-mobile cares that the phone is actually registered to the persons individual account versus another one.
My main concerns are ensuring I receive the full reimbursement after I drop the $800 on the phone, and the stipulation requiring a line be added. Tmobile rep in india says I can work around that by removing and adding a line, but who knows, billing usually gets screwed up for the firs month or two. Seems like I could get a great deal if I work it this way.
Thoughts?

It was the case for the Samsung.com promotion in June for the BOGO...I activated only my phone on the network and it worked just fine. Good luck, call and ask how many lines need to be activated.

They said only one line needs to be added, but that can be worked around by removing and adding a line (stupid method, they should have another way)
but they mentioned nothing about how many lines need to be activated, i highly doubt they care if the second phone is activated because the way i see it some people sell their phones after 6 months anyways
still interested in hearing if anyone else has done this before

As long as the one line is active, then I don't see why you couldn't sell the second phone.
Just noticed the FAQ says you arent eligible if you cancel a line after september 1st, so this essentially hurts relations with existing customers like me. not happy about it, anyone know if this is actually the case because the tmobile rep said i could work around it but it doesnt sound like it
