My mom recently called complaining that her device was malfunctioning and they replaced her handset, she went through this process 3 times and at that point she said not to send her another phone, that she wanted a different phone. After many calls to customer service we finally got a hold of a really nice representative and she worked with her and she was able to "upgrade" to a Samsung Infuse which is MUCH nicer than the one she has now.
I had some legitimate issues with the Evo 4G, where my data connection would drop whenever I was inside a building, but as soon as I would get outside, or into the Sprint store, everything would run flawlessly. They kept telling me that there was nothing they could do because to them, it was working fine.. They told me, you can send your phone back for them to give you a new one, but that required me being without a Smart Phone for a week (which with my job, I use my Smart Phone everyday! I told them that was unacceptable) After many calls and complaints, I went into the store to get a new phone, where they informed me that there was a note on my account to let me get an early upgrade.
I think if you really want to get a different phone already, it might just be as simple as complaining that there is something wrong with your phone. However, they might want you to ship it back to have them give you a new phone of the same make (leaving you without a phone for a week or two) a few times before they even think about letting you get a different phone.
Try to find a legitimate flaw with your current phone, something that can't exactly be corrected, some seldom used feature that just doesn't work correctly, then complain like it's the end of the world
Upgrading from iphone 4 to s3 and best buy wanted to do a credit check when I have been at&t customer for 4 years with account in perfect standing. They had the nerves to ask me how much my mortgage was, who my mortgage was with, and several other items pertaining to personal info.... FOR AN UPGRADE.
Best Buy did not get my business and in last 4 years we have bought all our phones at best buy which was 3 iphone 4s, 3gs, and 1 3g, and basic phone all from best buy in which within last month and half we have upgraded one person on the plan to a i4 and another to iphone 4s and did not get asked these questions, but for the S3 best buy needed this info...
Not Pleased. Anyone else gone through the BS?
I got my phone there and it was very quick and easy, no credit check. Sorry man that sucks!
Go straight to the manager... they can't ask you or run your credit for upgrades.. only new line and even that they can't ask you about your mortgage, that's ridiculous.

oh I did, went to best buy mobile manager and then store manager and they said they can't by pass it and that store chooses you at random when upgrading to confirm identity but no way in hell are they getting my mortgage info.
This has nothing to docwith best buy, it's actually an AT&T thing. I work at radioshack and run into this about once a week.

well at&t store manager said they have never done anything like that for an upgrade. and sure as hell ain't telling no employee of best buy or anywhere my personal and mortgage information.
I saw this when I used to sell cellphones for the various providers. It is usually the credit check people who want the info, not (insert carrier and store here). It is a method of identification to make sure you are who you say you are. Cellphone fraud is a very big thing, especially for the super high end android devices, blackberries (well, they were back then...) and iPhones.
Though I never heard mortgage, I did see plenty of car ownership stuff, address, old address, old car, etc etc. Random stuff really.

I work for BBY service center and even though I don't work in the store, I know that they ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ASK THAT INFO. The only way they are allowed to even check your credit is if you're apply for a BBY credit card.
I'd call their support and talk to their manager. I'v already heard many stories of BBY support lines bending over backwards to satisfy their customers so you may be able to get a discount on the phone or at least a gift card.

yeah and i'm talking specifics, who the mortgage is with and what the monthly payment is.
I work for AT&T and haven't heard of this on an upgrade. They are allowed to ask you about mortgage info or ANYTHING pertaining to your credit info so don't think otherwise. But like I mentioned, credit no longer plays a role when you have been an AT&T customer for longer than 6 months, even when adding a line they check account history add only occasionally check credit. Never for an upgrade.

Crazy. The employee themselves asked you? Not supposed to do that, where I worked we had to call in to the credit people themselves, hand the phone to the customer and let them confirm the information.
Don't shop there bro dump best buy they are going under anyways and they offer crap for customer service I would walk out and go to an att store.

I've worked for an at&t Authorized retailer for 8 years. at&t has started refreshing credit profiles on customers accounts as a fraud prevention measure. I would say once a week we run into this and these questions that are asked are referred to as OOW questions (Out of Wallet) meaning the customer in the store should be able to answer these without issue. We are instructed to read the questions and then select the answer the customer gives us. At the end if the customer answered everything satisfactorily we can continue. If they don't answer the questions satisfactorily we have to call analyst review and tell them we have the customer in the store and the ID matches the person in the store. We also have to have a secondary ID such as a Credit Card and the name has to match the drivers license. I know this sounds ridiculous but there is so much fraud in this business you have to understand it is for your protection. The extra five minutes this process takes is easier than trying to fight identity theft. Don't blame BestBuy for doing what at&t is requiring.
Had this happen to me when Upgrading my Sprint line. The questions were on their keypad card swipe thing, not an employee asking the questions. I purposely answered incorrectly and then the guy went through the upgrade anyway. Think there are two ways they can do an upgrade, one may be quicker than the other? Quicker maybe asking those questions?
regardless no way in hell i'm telling someone how much i pay for my house every month to qualify me for an upgrade phone when i've been customer for 4 years in perfect standing. in no way shape or form should you ever be asked personal info such as mortgage information for an upgrade, maybe for a new account, MAYBE, but not for an upgrade.
I'd like to get the s4 from a best buy location this week but I've got a few questions.
Do they do cross upgrades WITHOUT effecting the other line's sim/phone? I want to use my wife's upgrade but she'll be out of town so we can't have her sim/phone go off?
(I'm asking cuz in the past I had that happen)
If the upgrade date is 5/8,can I do it with best buy on may 1rst like I can at att?
Thanks to any best buy employees or otherwise experts who can help....

I can answer the first question but not the second, I don't have a clue about upgrade dates and such....
I used an upgrade from another account I manage yesterday and they told me that worst case scenario, the other phone will be deactivated for a second or two while they process the phone onto the account and then off of it, restoring the IMEI that was originally used.... if she has an LTE phone already, it will make the process a whole lot easier since they don't have to add an LTE provision and then remove it
That being said, I thought it was kind of wild they had to do any of that in the first place when I thought they could just process the upgrade as an in-store deal since it wasn't going on that account - they didn't pull out the phone and do a test call on it, so why would they have to activate it in the system for the other number and then remove it? At one time, the guy processing it who I thought I had confidence he knew what was going on turned to me and said "do you by any chance have that other phone available so I can get the IMEI off of it?" Well no, of course I don't, I told you that! You had it in the system before you deactivated it, put it back! haha, oh BBY.....
same here what happened yesterday, im goin to use my dad's
upgrade, since his phone is the galaxy s1, it turns out they deactivated his number(old sim) and they gave me the lte enabled sim, since i told them that i am the one gonna use both the s4 and s3 not my dad, they provided me a regular sim again for my dad but just to call 611 att customer service to transfer again the lte enbled sim to the regular one, such a hassel though, if only i have a simcard adapter that time.

Ok so she has an iPhone 5(lte right?) on that line now(the line I will use the upgrade date from.)
So it will go off for a moment and back on? For sure? She'll be so far from a att store that any problems would be a HUGE issue for us.
Please let me know. Thanks for help guys.
From my experience regarding dates, yes. As long as its the first of the eligible month. This was 2 years back when i got the s2 so not exactly sure if policy changed but i doubt it. Radio shack did the same thing.

The iPhone 5 is an LTE device, you should be good on that end
I sent a text to the number I was upgrading before to warn the person they may be without service momentarily, and then called on my way out of the store, they did not notice any interruption in service, so yes, it's for sure

This is true of outside vendors like BB still? I know Att could do it but not sure about non att stores.
Best buy mobile employee here. Typically if you are cross upgrading it isn't an issue unless it's an iPhone 5 or an old phone that uses a standard sim card. If they call customer service they can typically make it work without deactivating the old phone, otherwise you would need to get a new sim for the other phone.

And what about dates, can you do a 5/8 upgrade on 5/1?
Thanks.

It is only a problem because they use a nano sim which is only compatible with an iPhone 5. As far as the upgrade date goes, Generally it's not an issue, we just might have to process it over the phone

I appreciate your help.
My issue is my wife with the iPhone 5 will be a a very important trip where she needs the iPhone to work.
So I and she won't have access to the sim to change it out or anything.
Is what I want to do not going to work then?

There is a good chance that it will work, but there is also the possibility that it doesn't. If we call AT&T to activate over the phone sometimes they are able to move the SIM without having to deactivate it. It will most likely not be an issue, but there is always a slight chance that it would be cut off. When you go to the store make sure you stress that her phone cannot be shut off and ask them if there is any way to do it so that doesn't happen.
Follow up :
I went to a BB mobile store on 5/1.
My *639# said 5/8 for upgrade but she said she could do it no call to Att needed. So she did. All went well. Wife's lte iP5 didn't even turn off(that we noticed).
So cross upgrade went well. Stoked!
Thanks all for help.

obviously take this with a huge grain of salt, but just had a live chat with VZW rep to ask about the N6. I do this randomly just to see what kind of (non) answers I get.
However, this dude fired back with an exact date of February 26th. That date is on a Thursday, which is traditionally the day that Verizon launches new phones. Just struck me odd that he had such a specific answer, and went on to say that he had just recently been given the information.
Of course I've tried to live chat again three times since then, and each one of the reps said that they have no information about the N6 lol.
Take it for what it's worth.

Eh, i am not going to believe any rep. As far as this goes, i worked for Tmobile and ATT customer support and we where never really told anything ahead of time from everyone else. We where told to keep customers either happy or holding on with the company. It has been a few years ago from that though, so i dont know if that policy has changed. :good:

A poster on Reddit said he was told at a corporate store the same thing. The rep, after looking it up, said the computer was showing February 26th availability.
and i just asked and was told there is no scheduled release. thats pretty far ahead for a release date anyway.
i just asked two reps and i got nothing out of either one of them
I just want VoLTE already on my Nexus. No voice and data simultaneously is a bit annoying and per usual is probably because of Waiting for Verizon release their version.
Nexus 6 currently on Verizon Network
I recently bought the Nexus 6 and is currently running on the Verizon Network. Originally, the local Verizon dealer refused to add the Nexus 6 phone to the network since it was not a "Verizon Phone". My philosophy is, "Never let a multi multi multi billion dollar tech company tell what they cant do". By saying this, I called the Verizon Tier 2 support and they were able to activate the phone from their location bought using the same simcard number that was used from my Note 2 phone. Now, after two days, I was booted off the Verizon network and was told via message that I need to sign back on the Verizon network. After a few days corresponding with tier 2 tech support, the reason for the booting off the system was i was using a new "nano simcard" which resulted in a new simcard number. Originally, they recommended that i find someone with a new Motorola phone and activate my simcard through their phone ( long story) and then re-transfer back to the new simcard for the Nexus 6 to work but that greatly avoided. As a result, my Nexus 6 is currently working without any problems . Lastly, they will have to submit a "DMD Form" to "register" your non-Verizon phone. Hope this helps.

That sounds like too much work and a big hassle just to stay with a carrier. Its reminiscent of when I had Verizon a few year ago.
I wonder if VZW will try to lock down the Nexus and if Google will let them.
Sorry for the newbie question.

Yes, that simple. I am with VZW. I had a Galaxy S3 with a Micro SIM. I picked up a punch on Amazon (I didn't trust trying to use scissors but many people have success with them) ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FW70ZF6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ).
I got my N6, unlocked it, decrypted it, rooted it, transferred apps via Titanium Backup, and then punched the SIM and moved it from the GS3 to the N6. Booted up and it worked. Have not had any problems at all. *knock* *knock*
A Verizon nexus is NOT a nexus. Is just another fully OEM Verizon locked device.

If bought directly from Verizon.. Yes locked boot loader with modified software/firmware tampered trip counter and of course Verizon proprietary bloatware.
The online chat reps are the worst... If it is really true that VZW will carry it on 2/26 add another one to two months cause of supply issues + VZW tramp stamp time.
Messaged VZW On FB. Asked about my "upgrade" since we are almost forced to change phones. Was told if I downgrade aka upgrade to a s7 edge I would waste my upgrade. And be locked into the device agreement on that phone. Then asked about the yearly Galaxy upgrade she send me the link and after reading into it we are no longer eligible. As of 9/10/16 we cannot be apart of this. Took a screenshot of it. So I expressed my feelings to vzw. They didn't have much to say about wasting a downgrade and if we would be eligible for early upgrade due to our situation. Might go to BB For that TV. And the $100 for swapping to another Samsung.
I never knew this was a thing. And now I'm sad. They're really going to have to re-think our ineligibility now that we're being forced to switch devices. They should really honor the original purchase date on the first round of Note 7s so that people who pre-ordered or received a Note 7 before the 9/10/16 date would be included if they ended up switching to an S7 or S7E because of the recall.
Exactly why I'm not giving up my note 7. We essentially get screwed over. It's bullish!t
Use the carrier switching technology..
Switch to Tmobile or ATT and then switch back.. Yes a bit of hassle but you get a new phone of your choice..
This does not apply to people on the older (read unavailable/legacy) plans..
Yes there's always that option lol!
I ordered the S7 Edge thinking I was good to upgrade in a year. When I saw this I called to cancel and the Verizon rep said even if I took the S7 as my upgrade I'd still be eligible to upgrade later at any time because they haulted/ saved all upgrades due to the recall. I asked if he could email that to me, he said he can't email out but would save the notes and give me his user Id. I went ahead and canceled anyway, screw the useless credits, I want my Note and the ability to upgrade later.
I just left a store, I went to inquire about swapping out to a s7 edge or possibly a note 5. My question was if say in 3 months a phone came out that I actually wanted, would I be able to upgrade without penalty.
So after chatting for about 5 minutes with the manager, I don't get an answer to my actual question, but am told that I can call customer service and I "SHOULD" be able to upgrade to a s7e with no penalty for this swap. However if i wanted to (upgrade in store) I would have to pay the balance of my note 7 up to half of the total value.
WHAT!
So for a DOWNGRADE I don't want, that I'm basically being forced to take I would have to pay off half the phone you say I must return to you?

Ya, I have read to many accounts of people walking in, getting a 2nd phone and leaving with both (to wait on a fireproof shipping container for n7) only paying an upgrade fee or taxes, to be returned upon receipt of n7.
I truly hate vzw, but where I live / work there is no other viable option.
Yeah there is no right answer at this point. They're just blowing smoke up our azz's until something gets figured out. The tech I talked to basically agreed with everything I said, first saying he too had a note 7 and also cancelled the order, then later said he might cancel the order. I find it hard to believe that after accepting an upgrade I'll still magically have another upgrade available to use anytime I want. If that were the case I could just keep upgrading over and over. What's the upgrade limit, will we be able to keep our original upgrade eligibility date from when we bought and activated our Note 7, what actually happens if we decide not to upgrade right now... These are the golden questions.
