I have a non rooted N1. I am VERY cautious to not touch the sides of the screen... even when sitting the phone on the table and pecking its like the N1 thinks I am pressing 1-2 inches below where I actually touch.
This makes typing and selecting stuff impossible. If I reboot it seems to work and then fail shortly after that.
I have not gotten the OTA update.
Any thoughts? What can I do? I am past 14 days ownership I think.

you can try to manually install the update on your non-rooted device, and if that doesn't help/solve it, then I would contact htc since you have a warranty.
Specifically for laying the phone flat I think it has something to do with the auto-rotate. I noticed that it almost acts as if the orientation is somewhere between Portrait and Landscape. If I pick up the phone and rotate it about 20 degrees clockwise and lay it down then tends to be much more responsive.

Hi There
My JasJar has been working pretty well, but yesterday I was using the machine in landscape mode (like a laptop as opposed to PDA mode) and noticed that I could easily rotate the screen either way.
I was sure that it was only supposed to turn one way (pushing on the bttom left), but couldn't resist the temptation to try as there was no resistance at all and I thought that maybe I had just missed this cool feature.
After I had rotated it the "other" way, I could not put it back in to landscape and had to turn it ANOTHER 180 degrees. I can feel the strain on the cables and am scared that it is going to break soon
Has anyone else had this please?
Thanks
John
It shouldn't do that. Both my JASJAR and my Exec will only rotate one way.
That's what I thought.
It seems as though the "rotation limiter" for want of a better phrase, is faulty.
Has anyone else had this, please?
Update....
I looked at the bottom part of the rotating joint and noticed a screw.
When I took this out, I was able to lift up the whole of the mechanism and saw that the cable was very tight. I rotated the screen back so that it was in the correct position again and then replaced the screw and it seems to be fine, BUT, I can still rotate it both ways, so I will need to be very careful.
I think that this machine is going back to i-mate!

I unfortunatly had this probem out of the box with my o2 exec.
It survived 2 days before the screen went black.
was exchanged under o2's 28 day policy.
New one is much better better built
Any help would be great on this. It started a few days ago when i noticed the touch screen was acting up, it wasnt recognizing my finger and if i touched 1 spot on the screen then anothert spot would get selected. i cleaned it and it still did it. A few hours later i went to use it and it was perfect, not long after that it was acting up again. i even went as far as flashing a diiferent rom to see if it would help...nope. what i did notice is if i started the music app with the guitar and pressed one of the strings i would get about 20 string plucks back, ding didda ding ding dinggggg. Anyone have any advise or ideas?
I take it you have the fender? Or are you talking about an app off the market? If you have the fender, I've herd a lot about touchscreen acting up with any ROM other than the official one.
digitizer?
No its a G1, and its had about 100 diff roms on it. The app I was using was just an example of what the screen was doing, sometimes a string would pluck or wouldn't and then 20 or 30 plucks in a row from just pressing 1. The touchscreen function is null and void on the home screen and everything else. If I didn't have the trackball the phone would be useless.
Time to invest in a new digitizer
is there a screen calibration apk of any sort? cause what im noticing is after i just flashed KiNgxKxKlair DroidEris2G1 and the touchscreen is actually recognizing about 50-60% of any screen selection taps i make. Now by chance this is the only rom thus far that has keyboard calibration on the touch screen, not sure if thats coincidence or if the screen is getting better or what, Just made me wonder if there a touch screen type calibrating process, file, or app. thanx
Since 2 weeks the bottom 1.5cm of my touchscreen doesn't work
anymore.
I assume this isn't software related? So i will take it back to the shop for
reparation.
Because i have a custom rom installed, will this be a problem for my garantuee?
Or do i have to install back the official rom? And wich one?
Kind Regards,
Dieter
Same problem here...
After upgrade to 2.1 (VillainRom 3.4) the touch screen doesn't work as before. It seem that the bottom of the screen has some problems, the keyboard is less receptive...
Jef
I to had it after an upgrade to 2.1
Dont think its rom related...
I am on the official update from late last year (1.6? 1.5?)
Its been fine until about feb/march this year
Asked the tmobile store how long itd take to send it in. They reckon 2 weeks. wtf?
And they didnt have any loan phones.
Why does it take forever to get anything done in the uk?
Anyway... I reckon its the hardware. Must be a loose connection inside between the touchscreen or something.
Sometimes the bottom of the screen is not working... sometimes wherever I touch the screen it thinks im touching the bottom but on the same coordinate on the x axis... sometimes it just goes completely nuts as if I am sliding my finger side by side along the bottom of the screen (when I am not even touching the phone). Sometimes switching it off and on helps... sometimes it doesnt...
Initially it was only happening occasionally... but it gets worse... now I can expect it to happen every third time I try and use the phone for anything.
Same here , it's annoying. It was never there for 6 months but since Feb 2010 , i've been having this touch screen problems.
Since the upgrades for 2.1 started coming in , right after modaco custom rom 3.0 .
i had this problem. bottom of the screen was unresponsive unless i put my full thumb on it (not so good for typing) and sometimes it thought i was only touching the bottom. paid $115 to get the screen replaced. works a charm now.
I loved everything about this Phone until today. Today is the day I tried to access ebay from my Phone. Brought up the page in only a few seconds, good start. Pinch to zoom working well, excellent.
username in without too much trouble.
Password.... it took me 20 mins to get this in due to the ****ty sensitivity on the screen. I was almost at the point of throwing it against the wall.
I have the sensitivity fix installed, is there proper solution for this problem or some way to make the screen much more accurate for typing?

Click to collapse
calibrate the screen ,it solves allot of issues , if this doesnot fix it change the screen
change the screen, you mean have it replaced?, this is my second phone as they other was the same, are we sure this isnt something we are going to have to live with?

what was the problem?
clicking the password field (I just find you have to be quite zoomed in, in opera it seems to ignore clicks to fields unless the fields have been zoomed in on.)
or typing the password on the keyboard because it has no auto text correction? (I dont really find this a problem to be honest, I use a large number of numbers, letters uppercase and lowercase and symbols and aslong as I dont type it too fast and think about each key I will always type it right first time)
getting into the fields wasnt too bad with zoom. The problem was multiple taps. When I type a key sometimes It also puts on all the keys around it, seems to be a bit random - I havent got sausage fingers either.
It may be worse for me as I had a touch HD before this and the resistive screen was very accurate, may just need more time to acclimatise.
you probably should go into notes and try drawing lines around, if they aren't really straight or if by pressing in one spot you have the cursoir drawing all around your fingertip, then it's probably still something to do with warranty servicing
Me, on the other side, never ever had any problem with sensitivity at all, all the contrary I think that if I had to install the sensitivity patch it would be way more unpleasant to use the phone, I like the sensitivity as it is now
:S hmm that sounds a bit weird, I don't really have much of a problem with key accuracy.
are you typing your password too fast? might help if you slow it down, instead of retyping it ten times, take 5 times longer to type it the first time and you have already cut down the time it takes you by a lot
Get the original stylus from HTC and try again. If it happens with the stylus too the screen is fu.....
This is going to be a random suggestion
Do you have any Task Managers installed? Such as Dutty's/Touch X or Appelflap's or anyone that put an icon in the top right of your screen.
If so, try uninstalling them and see if this a has any positive affect on your typing.
We'll deal with a replacement Task Manager later
when I move quickly accross the page it is fine, when moving slowly its absolutely terrible, akin to sizeometer earthquake 9 on the ricter scale. I am using Laurentius26 GoldEdition V2.1, I will flash back to stock and see what that is like.
this is what I am getting, exactly..!

Have you tried using a different rom, if a new rom doesnt fix it there must be some hardware failure since that is not standard behaviour for the screen. I have just performed the same test on my phone and I get near perfect straight lines even while varying the pressure on the screen.
You say you have a fix installed is it this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604831
I had the none ghost fix installed but realised I have both problems. Just uninstalled and installed the ghost+sense fix and reset....
no change
will try a new ROM, if no change then I am going to send it back to VODA, this was a "nearly new" phone on their swap scheme, got it free on £20.month, seemed to good to be true and was.
Watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egVn2HvexhQ&feature=related). It may be the case that your HD2 needs to be sent for repair as it may just be defective.
Did you try running no task managers? I presume that it did not help.
Send it off and explain it's unusable in this state.
put stock new ROM on from Voda, a lot better by far. It must either be the ROM, the fix or Zoomer which is causing this. I wonder if anyone else has has this problem, i will log this on the ROM thread.
still having problems with this, not as bad as before, think i am going to send it back and cancel the contract, I think this phone although beautiful is not fit for purpose.
Have there been any reports of bad touchscreens? We just got our EVO's a week or two ago, and my wife has been complaining that it's not responding to her touches and she has to select things multiple times. I noticed it somewhere too when messing with her phone but thought it an anomoloy. Now I'm a bit concerned.
Since we are within 30 days, and the phone has had no abuse, would this be covered by any warranty even if I don't have Sprint insurance?
What steps should I take? Is there anything I can do to further test the touchscreen to see if it's really bad?
I'm going to remove the screen protector tonight just in case that is causing the issue. Has anyone had any similar issues?
I would take it into the store ASAP
Anyone else have any sort of issues like this?
What software versions are you guys running?
There were some pretty bad touch response problems with the first couple versions of 2.1. I think the first 1.47 was when they fixed them.
Until you use the phone without a screen protector its hard to say if its really the screen. If it is still doing it then yes that would be an exchange issue and should cost you nothing.
My wife has nails (not even long nails, but long enough), and when she uses my Evo, she has to use the ball of her fingertips instead of the top of her finger. She can try and press the same spot repeatedly and it won't register, whereas it always goes through the first time when I use my fingertip. She gets incredibaly frustrated in the car when we're listening to pandora, and she tries to thumb up or thumb down a song. She'll press it 10 times and nothing, but when I hit the same exact spot, it will work the first time, every time.
I think it's funny.
