Hi,
After the success of the Diamond Version of this guide I decided to "BRING THE RAIN" over here!! I noticed a post about a rom having random hard resets so I knew my calling was up!!
After what happened in the Diamond thread with the Tourists Im going to try and remove all repeat questions BEFORE they get asked so READ THIS WARNING:
F.A.T.M.T.I.D.Q:
(Frequently Asked TOO Many Times Infuriating Damn Questions):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1: "After task 28, I get this output in MTTY: Total Bad Block in CE: x"
2: "After task 29, I get this output in MTTY:
ERASE block xxx FAIL !!!
ERASE block xxx FAIL !!!"
(where x is a random number)
This has been asked 100+ times in the Diamond thread so this is the final time I will answer:
IT MEANS NOTHING..NADA..ZIP! I have not experienced ANY problem with this output...Please stop asking!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we all know MTTY is the key here, but I can say from personal experience that this small piece of software is a MASSIVE pain in the ass to get working, i must have tried 15-20 different “recommended” procedures to get it work and all failed.
But I managed to find a failsafe method of getting MTTY working on Vista AND Windows 7, also x86 AND x64!! (I have all 4 windows installations and the methods detailed below worked on all)
NOTE: WORKS WITHOUT DRIVER INSTALL ON XP
If for some reason you cannot got this to work on XP do the following: (Thanks kgerry!!)
kgerry said:
Hi,
if you run XP and you have Problems to connect to USB try following:
1. Launch ActiveSync on PC
2. Go to connection settings
3. Uncheck the Allow USB Connection
4. bring the device to bootloader.
5. Now, run mtty ...
... try again to switch from COM1 to USB and follow the instructions of perfect post 3
Hope it helps ... Kgerry

Driver Installation
NOTE: Drivers only need installed ONCE. After this you can just connect in BOOTLOADER and use MTTY.
Pre-Cursor To Driver Installation – FOR EVERYONE (x64/x86 Vista/Win 7)
This will remove the need for users, x64 in particular, to use “Unsigned Drivers.” Also since in Vista SP2 (x64 & x86) they removed the “F8” options Completely!
Files Needed:
Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider
Remove Watermark V0.8
1: Run the Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider and select “ENABLE TEST MODE” and Press Next
2: There will be a warning to REBOOT, Press “OK”
3: Go Back to Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider Select “Exit” then Click “Next”
4: REBOOT
5: Run the “Remove Watermark V0.8” for you OS type (x64 or x84)
6: In the Command Window type “Y” and wait for the process to complete
7: Once complete REBOOT your system and begin the driver install
NOTE: If you DO NOT complete the above, some users will need to press "F8" During Bootup - (ANOTHER NOTE FOR x64 USERS, EVERY TIME YOU NEED TO USE MTTY YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER, HIT F8 AND SELECT: "START WINDOWS WITHOUT DIGITALLY SIGNED DRIVER CHECK")
For Info See Post Below:
Reb0rn said:
I must just say that u might have to watch the x64bit drivers if they are digitally signed... Cuz neither Vista 64 nor Windows 7 64 will let u load or start those drivers if they are not digitally signed.
IF that the case and if u have installed the driver but it says that it has stopped it due to the driver not been Digitally signed u have to start windows vista/7 in "ignore digitally signed drivers" mode.
When u start the computer, keep hitting F8 and it will prompt you if u want to start in safe mode bla bla and in the bottom of that list there is an option that goes something like this:
Start Windows without Digitally signed Driver Check... or sumthing like that...
This is only if u have problems with the x64 driver... like i did...
BTW... u made a beautiful how-to man. Great job!

Big thanks to maybeme for providing a host for the images!!
1: Download the relevant drivers for your system attached to this post: these work for both Vista and Win7, all you have to choose is x86 or x64
EDIT: It has been found that with different versions of Windows 7 x64 need different Active Sync Drivers... If you are using Windows x64 please try x64 AS Drivers Win 7 Tested & Working.zip FIRST!!!
2: Connect Device to PC via Active Sync, Once Connected Uncheck USB Connections,DISCONNECT DEVICE then Reboot Computer
3: Bring device into bootloader (Reset + Hold Vol Down), This will show the Red, Blue, Green screen showing "Serial" - Once Computer booted, connect device in bootloader mode to USB, the word "Serial" will change to "USB"
4: Go to "Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager" and select Microsoft Usb Sync in Mobile Devices section (NOTE: This MAY say HTC USB Sync but as long as you select your device!!):
5: Right Click and Select "Properties" then go to Driver tab, then Select "Update Driver"
6: Choose to "Browse Computer For Driver" (the second option):
7: Select "Let Me Pick From A List...." (the second option):
8: Click "Have Disk":
9: Select the folder with downloaded driver From Step 1 and select "wceusbsh.inf" (this is the same file for x86 & x64):
10: You will get back to previous screen, then click Install
10a: WINDOWS 7 ONLY - The Below Warning will appear, Select "Install anyway":
11: The drivers will be successfully installed:
12: When you get back to "Driver Properties" check driver version. If the "Driver Date" has changed from 2nd step (2003 instead of 2007 - The year does not matter as long as it is not 2007!!), the installation has been a sucess:
13: Lastly leave the device connected and in "Bootloader" and reboot you system. Upon Rebooting an "Unknown Device" is installed, this is your HTC device.
Now the Active Sync Drivers are Installed

Reboot first, and you should then see the mention of this mode in the lower right corner of the desktop.
After that use Remove Watermark also from second post to keep your machine in this mode for ever and ever, without having the annoying Developer Watermark.

Ok ! Understand ! that's why this "ONLY" point didn't work !
Thanks for help !

Love this procedure. now, it is taking less than 30 seconds to format before I flash a new ROM. Much faster than flashing a stock ROM.

I had some trouble using MTTY on Win7 x64. Soooo, i switched over to my business laptop running WinXP.
First time run, worked perfectly! Thank you so much for this. I have flashed my HD2 over 30 times and it started showing some funny things that other users didn't experience with the same ROM.
Again. Thank you.

Step by Step instructions for installing XP

Hello all.
I will update these instructions as needed.
With these instructions you can install any version of windows XP, SP2 or SP3. It doesn´t need to be a tablet edition. I recommend using a lite or optimized version.
As far as I know, only two things are not working, resolution changer and tablet input panel. Both will be fixed soon.
You have to install Activesync too if you want to access the other half of your Shift.
Thank you to all the people who contributed on the other thread!
Enjoy!
1.- Download and save to a USB disk drive:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/fa3eb2/n/drivers_shift_XP_rar
and https://phatpipez.homeftp.org/HTCShift/Shift/TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe
or http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/4449594/drivers_shift_XP.rar.4449594.TPB.torrent
Be sure to extract the rar file before starting or have a unrar program installer available, you cannot extract rar files on a newly installed windows XP!
2.- Install XP. Use your own version in your own language!
Choose same disk and fast NTFS format. Use the administrator account for now.
Let it finish ignoring any message about the screen format, etc
3.- Eject CD-Drive
Insert USB pen drive
4.- Run HTC Shift XP Drivers/Chipset/infinst_autol.exe next, next, next… reboot when finished.
5.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers/VGA/win2k_xp14324.exe next, next, yes, next, next, reboot when finished.
6.- run TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe, it will extract files to C:\temp,
Go to C:\temp and run step1.reg,
Run Step2.bat
Leave it alone until de hard disk stops and reboot
7.- Run HTC Shift XP Drivers\VistaECDrvV1[1].0.1.10\setup.exe from the folder
8.- Run HTC Shift XP Drivers\TouchScreen(1[1].1.0.2)\ATSV1102(WHQLed).exe next, next, next and reboot when finished.
9.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\Synaptics MicroPad(10[1].0.11.1)\setup.exe , reboot when finished.
10.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\Audio\WDM_R195\setup.exe , reboot when finished.
11.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\fingerprint\setup.exe .
12.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\omnipass 5.0\setup.exe. Reboot when finished.
13.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\USB LAN\setup.exe .
14.- run cygwin\setup.exe, and select install from folder. select ioperm from the devel subfolder.
Unselect icons on desktop and start menu and finish.
Run cygwin.bat from c:\cygwin
type “ioperm –i” + enter and “exit” + enter
move hsect-2.1\hsect2.exe and move it to c:\cygwin\bin
15.- move the bat files from \archivos bat\ to the desktop.
16.- Run BT on.bat from your desktop and let windows install its own drivers
17.- run WF on.bat from your desktop and cancel the windows installation.
18.- copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot.
19.- Install the WLAN drivers , from the hardware manager, right button over marvell SDIO… update driver, and select the HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN folder.
Thanks for the step-by-step guide dproldan! I have a couple questions:
- What is left out as far as functionality with the XP install compared to Vista or will everythign work as far as the camera, control center buttons, etc...
- Any hopes soon for resolution changer and tablet input panel functioning?
- Without the mobility center built-in Vista, is the conenction to snapview done just via active sync?
- Download link for TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe does not work and torrent has absolutely no availability. Any alternatives?
Thanks again!
Thanks Great
This is what we needed good job again thanks.
Hope sombody do the same with the flash rom to get the gps etc.

Which drivers are for the G3 modem? I dont see them in the XP Drivers pack, or, are they built-in in XP already?
Also, any luck now or in the future to make the GPS work under XP?

You can use the 3G modem with USBTool and internet sharing programs from the windows mobile side, the RNDIS drivers are installed automatically the first time you connect.
GPS works fine on XP using franson GPSGate and activesync.

If I install XP on my Shift...
Will things still be controlled in SnapVUE?
I say this because my audio is dead, because snapvue is dead--if I install XP will sound be dead or does installing XP Usurp Snapvue?
Here's some comments surrounding these questions.
1. Your SnapVue must be Liberated to use 3G for XP.
2. You must install ActiveSync on XP
3. Go into SnapVUe and open USB Tool and "Attach to Vista"
4. Active sync will start.
5. Once connected/sync'd go to Snap Vue, Programs, Internet sharing. XP will find the network sharing connection and set it up
6. You now have 3G on XP
ultraman982 - why not ressurect SnapVue or is it totally screwed? HTC have the clear SnapVue tool which I have used successfully...turned it back to normal. I have had nil sound issues.
In fact, to get things as clean as possible I did an Fcn F3 for Vista, cleared SnapVue then started from there. Good to start with a clean base.

2- i must entered by recovery console for copying sdbus.sys, otherwise XP put in \system32\drivers an older version of this file.

-right buttons work as expected, keep the stilus pressed until a mouse icon appears
- I didn't have to do anything with the recovery console, but I used an optimized version. I'll update the instructions if more people report the same problem.

Hi,
thanks a lot for your work! It is excellent!
I have installed XP Tablet Pc Edition 2005, I have not used this point:
6.- run TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe, it will extract files to C:\temp,
Go to C:\temp and run step1.reg,
Run Step2.bat
Leave it alone until de hard disk stops and reboot
For this point I have restarted the PC with recovery console for copy correctly the file:
18.- copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot.
One issue:
after I have installed all the drivers I have tried to install a Bluetooth mouse....the installation is finished ok...the mouse works...but I cannot use the touchscreen...
I have reinstalled the touch driver....all works ok...but at next reboot touch stop working...
Michele
ioperm...
thank you, sensa, for your quick reply.
When I type the command "ioperm -i" into the cygwin window I get this:
"ioperm.sys is already installed. StartService function call failed."
Any idea?

New method for installing XP

Hi all.
This is another method for installing windows XP on the Shift. It uses WPI (Windows Post Install) for running every installation in sequence, so it should be easier for everybody.
Most steps have been simplified, so hopefully you only have to press a lot of buttons, and you'll end with an almost perfect XP installation.
Download this:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca737a/n/WPI_exe
Follow these steps:
1.- Install Windows XP Tablet, or plain Windows XP and use the TabletPCPatch. Take out SD card.
2.- Execute WPI.exe, decompress to C: (type c: and enter)
3.- Execute c:\WPI\wpi.hta
4.- In the applications list that appears, select OmniPass if you wan to use the fingerprint reader and ActiveSync, then click on "Begin Install"
5.- Chipset: next, yes, next, next, finish with reboot.
6.- VGA: next, next, yes, next, next, finish with reboot. Add resolution to registry, yes, yes.
7.- EC Driver: next, finish.
8.- TouchScreen: next, next.
Next and follow trough the three windows of "new hardware found", before rebooting!. Finish with reboot the Touch Screen Driver.
9.- TouchPad: next, next, next, finish with reboot.
10.- FingerPrint: next, accept, next, next, next, install, finish.
11.- Audio: press any key, next, DON'T REBOOT, finish, press any key.
12.- USB Lan: finish.
13.- WLAN: Drivers are copied to c:\wlandrivers, install from there when you are asked for them later.
14.- CYGWIN: next, "install from local directory", next, next, next, click the + sign next to "devel" and click on the word "skip" of the line "ioperm" so that "0.4-1" appears, next, deselect both icons creation, finish.
15.- HSECT: nothing to do here.
16.- BAT Files: Add batfiles to registry, yes, Ok.
17.- Astray: nothing to do here.
18.- SwapResolution: Add swapResolution to registry, yes, Ok.
Let it reboot after 20 seconds.
Now it usually asks about the WLAN drivers, see step nr. 13.
If it asks about drivers for Windows Mobile, just answer yes until it finishes.
Thanks to DeVictoria for the SwapResolution and the rest of you for adding comments.
Thanks for the step-by-step guide dproldan
Hi! Thank you very much for this post!!!
Just an information... Where can I find Windows Xp Tablet???
I have no external cdrom, can I run the installation of Windows Xp Tablet from USB key? How can I do???
Sorry but I'm at a very low level!!!!
Thank you!!!!

I cant manage how to run BT/WF.
Its just doesent work. Cygwin seems to be ok, but when i want to run HSECT it shows that some dll is missing, or just disappearing.
I've managed how to install and run bluetooth correctly, but i cant install drivers for Wi-Fi.
"Device cannot start (CODE 10)"
Same stuff with sound. I have only Bluetooth Sound, nothing more.
And i cannot switch to SnapVue.
hi, i install windows xp tablet Pc edition 2005 english version,
step and step follow the new method for installing xp ,
it's ok but wifi ,
in device manager ,marvell sd8686wireless LAN SDIO Adapter #3 is yellow mark, and i can't use it ,
some thing wrong with me?
how can i star up the wifi for internet?
Thanks for the WinXP easy install process. I got everything working trying this package.
To get Wifi working, you have to copy the "copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot."
DO THIS IN SAFE MODE ONLY. This is how I got mine to work. I had the same problem with the yellow and not working wifi code 10 in the device manager.
If you copy this without in safe mode, it will not work because after the reboot the system will replace the overided version with the old one again.

on the contrary, if i update the sdio driver ...i mean overwrite the sdbus.sys the SDHC card 4g above will work but the wifi lan will not work.
we gona have the driver which works with these two functions
This automated driver installation is great help & instructions are very clear.
Many thanks to dproldan for all the hard work and excellent finish.
However, i had big issues to get wi-fi work but in the end removing the battery and then after that running turn WF on helped.
MAYBE REMOVING BATTERY HELPS WITH WI-FI ISSUE !!
i don't know if this helps but maybe next time:
- check in Vista that wi-fi is turned on
- do all the installing
- if wi-fi not working: remove battery and put it back
- then run WF on
- marvel appeared in device manager with yellow exclamation
- upgrade drivers from c:\wlandrivers
hth
Hallo,
thats perfect. Many Many thanks.
I've finally installed XP using the above WPI method which is fantastic - Many thanks for everyone's effort on it. I was very surprised that both BT and WiFi worked with no extra input or fiddling from me YAY!
BUT my touchscreen wouldn't work as the TabletPC patch doesn't self install and the instructions didn't state this. Luckily I found instructions elsewhere (it unzips to c:/temp and you have to manually run step1 and step2 the reboot) and now it's all working and super speedy compared to Vista.
Has anybody succeeded activating like all chipsets when going with Windows XP Tablet PC SP3 ?
as far as I know using XP involves the following inconvenience:
1. the touchscreen need a tweak in deactivating a HID driver to fully work (working to remove that)
2. making the WiFi work disables the SD Card port => if WiFi then no_SDcard !BIG PROBLEM! (solved by going to sleep then start up - original files, don't replace anything)
3. 800x480 resolution only => can't find any program to make "see" all resolution BUT " MultiRes " could change IF would be available ! !QUITE BIG PROBLEM! (working on it)
4. no native portrait look => try " iRotate " to rotate
5. can't program right upper buttons for exec'ing needed commands (such a Control Panel) (working on it - think I found something)
? I tend to use the latest available drivers, not the ones available on HTC, keeping updated is one of my fixed ideas
I tried Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7... I recommend Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3 for advanced users and Windows 7 for the world ON HTC SHIFT, not for pc or else...
If someone has any good and updated instructions set for installing Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3... please let me know, the genuine part I have already taken care of, I'm talking more about the drivers and all of that for all to work well, and I need XP for development, Windows 7 is not ready to be low-level programmed and is not suitable for me.
I'm not saying XP is better, I run Windows 7 on my main desktop because is quite powerfull and there's nothing I can't do on it, BUT I need XP for my beautifull Shift, it do think it more suitable
UPDATE ! After I installed Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 SP3, did Windows Update, restart... and discovered a bug wich allows us to use the WiFi without modifying no file, just go to sleep-mode and then start the device, all chipsets are going ok, I'm using a 16GB SDHC Silicon card, using wireless, bluetooth and all what I need... NO hacking required, looks like there's a exploit in power management's sleep mode... that's better for me, for now at least than giving up to SDslot for WiFi... so sleep -> wake, and you're ON !
Update 2: given up and going for Windows 7 which really makes a difference for touchscreen use

Hi Samstables,
I strongly need your help here for installing the TabletPC patch on WinXP.
I followed your steps for installing the TabletPC patch and I did not manage to have the Input Panel working. I can see it while booting Windows but I cannot call it from the taskbar icon.
In the above post you mentioned Step 1 and Step 2, then reboot and so I did it. What about step 3?
What is the size of the patch you used, it's important to know as I might have downloaded a damaged patch.
tanks tanks tanks!
Very good, but i have a problem:
if i reeboot then i don't have wifi.
I must remove from device manager the sdio card reader and then refresh the wifi and the card running.
PS: excuse me for my english
WPI_exe file no longer exist
Hi all,
I just got HTC shift and decide to install WinXP for faster response
Find this thread, but link for WPI below is dead
Can anybody reupload this file?
Thank's

[Q] odd problem with my P3400

Hi...
I have p3400 gene .... I really want my phone to upgrade to WM6.1proffesional
So, I tried the the guide available here at xda-develpors [GUIDE] Step by Step Guide for Upgrading P3400 and P3400i ROM + FAQs
Now, My phone is dead ... when I press the power button ... the red and green button blink once and nothing else happen
I tried the Power+camera and a screen with 3colors appear (red, green, blue) with these writing on it ...
ONLP 1.10.0000
SPL 1.10.olip
my S/N is HT8xxxxxx.
I have widows 7 on my computer so I tried :
I did [Step 2: Preparing your phone] successfully
then in step 3
You need to take these steps :
1. Go to desktop, right click Computer, and select Manage. Go to Device Manager. Now under the section Mobile Devices, Double Click : Smartphone USB Sync.
2. On the Drivers tab, click "Update Driver..." button. On next screen click : "Browse my computer for driver software".
3. Click : "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computers". Click "Have Disk.." on next screen. Click "Browse..." and go to the folder extracted in step 1. There, go to USBDriverforActiveSyncVista folder. Here select the file "wceusbsh.inf" and click OK.
4. Click Next and finish the wizard.
Click to collapse
but when I select "wceusbush.inf" ... I get this error
HTML:
the folder you specified doesn't contain a copatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems
I don't know how to solve it
and when I try the ROMUpdateUtility program ... I get [ERROR 300
when I tried Step 5: Use the Orefkov Unlocker
after opening the Mtty1_42.exe ... here are the problems
- I don't find the usb button
and when I click okay ... on the next screen ,,, the keyboard just doesn't work
only [delete] and [ctrl+v] nothing else works ...
P.S. I use the windows mobile device center on my computer to sync my info to my p3400
need help to solve the problem
I really want the WM6.1proffecional
and could any one give the best rom for it??? and will I have a touch flo problem afterwords ????
Please help A.S.A.P
come on guys ... The site of the best develepors and till now .... no answere
just so you get this solved as fast and smoothly as possible...lets just go through this step by step...
(i don't mean to sound rude but there's something you need to know before you start expecting miracles here, let me tell you...this site does indeed have an amazing lot of people who have spent countless amount of time working on and with their phones...but not everyone has the time to log in everyday and keep a track of the infinite number threads they might be following...and even when they do log in and read your problem, they might not necessarily have a solution for you at that time...
patience is the key...wait for someone to read, understand and then provide a solution for your problem, if it exists...this is a phone developers site...not one for magical cures
and most importantly...post your problems in the appropriate threads...like this one should've been in the Q&A thread in the ROM development section...or in the upgrading thread itself...you'd get more replies that way...you don't have to start new threads)
now...i read through your post where you've described your problem very nicely...and i couldn't see where you've tried running the olipro patch...
but since you can see SPL as 1.10.olip in bootloader mode i'm assuming you tried that...
now if the phone is bricked then it probably means you phone is the new gene...
all you have to do is run mtty exactly as it is explained in the thread...you just have to get the driver given in the tools zip file...
as you mentioned that you've tried setting the driver and it didn't work...
you can try 2 things...
1> try running the same procedure from step 3 onwards on someone else's computer/laptop...(this is somethings others have mentioned working for them)
2> uninstall and reinstall windows mobile device center to get the default drivers for your phone on your comp...start your phone in bootloader mode by holding down the camera button while restarting the phone...now when you have the tricolour screen on, connect it to your comp via usb...
after your comp detects the device, open device manager and try updating the driver (download the tools zip file again just to be sure)...
after updating driver, the mtty should run perfectly...make sure you do everything in step 5 100% correctly...read the instructions over and over again just to be sure...(this is the method that worked for me...but again, as you will read everywhere here, be sure to do it correctly...no one on this site is responsible for any problems you'll have with your device)
if you have any doubts or problems in getting it to work...post it up in detail like you've done here
Sorry .. my bad
BUT like I said ... I am a complete newbie here
I wanted to ask ... should I repost my problem in the Q&A or will the moderator move it
I will try it on other computer ....
thanx for your help
yes, I actually used Step 4: Use the Olipro method first.
thats why bootloader mode is on ...
but after that comes the problem
since the drivers seem to be buggy with the x64 windows 7 just try running everything from step 5 onwards carefully...AFTER you have changed the appropriate drivers first as mentioned in step 3...
do these things on someone else's computer/laptop with a 32-bit os (x86)
i'm running the 32-bit windows 7 and i can assure you it works for both newgene and oldgene perfectly...
so next few things for you to do-
1> borrow someone's comp
2> install windows mobile device center (active sync for xp users)
3> start phone in bootloader mode and connect it via usb
4> locate it in device manager
5> change drivers for the device
6> continue from step 5 in the upgrading thread
hope it works...good luck
Problem solved .... thanx man ... thanx

[Q] spl problem & windows 7

in step WV5..i open services.msc but there isnt "Windows Mobile 2003-based device connectivity" or something begin with windows mobile.
so i run out of methods to flashing my device before i install a new rom..
What must i do to connect pc with hd..?
Q:if i try all this to windows xp may i success?
thank you for yout time
someone...somebody..help me..
ok, I don't have windows 7, but on XP make sure you have "allow usb connections" enabled in activesync connection settings before you connect device to pc. This will ensure that bottom of bootloader will change from "serial" to "usb"
Hi
You need to start Windows 7 in safe mode, if I am not mistaken. Somewhere on the net there is a description to the whole procedure.
Regards
HI,
quick question, which activsync are you using? For windows 7 you cannot use the "old"microsoft active sync, the new oneis windows mobile device center. It should work to have your phone recognize usb.
Just a thought.
HI
Here is some help, good for me:
Just after the launch of Windows Vista and Windows7, we reported that RUUs (ROM upgrades), do not work on the OS.
Now, courtesy of sp3dev @ XDA-Developers, a solution has been found... and i've taken his basic instructions and posted them below with full screenshots and the very latest driver files extracted from ActiveSync 4.5.
News page readers can find the 16-step (not as bad as it sounds!) walkthrough after the jump! biggrin.gif
Before starting: Your device needs to be connected to the PC, and in BOOTLOADER mode.
Step 1 of 16: Extract this zip file to a memorable location on your machine (e.g. the desktop). This is the Activesync 4.5 RTM USB driver.
Attached File VistaRUU.zip ( 37.8K )
Step 2 of 16: Run 'Windows Mobile Device Center', and click 'Connection Settings'.
Step 3 of 16: Uncheck the 'Allow USB Connections' box, and select 'OK'.
Step 4 of 16: Run 'Services' by clicking the Start Orb and typing 'Services', and ensure the 'Windows Mobile-based connectivity' and Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity' services are started. If they are not, click the service name and press the 'play' button on the top bar.
Step 5 of 16: Load 'Device Manager' by clicking the Start Orb and typing 'Device Manager'. Expand the 'Mobile devices' section and click the 'HTC USB Sync' (or similarly named) item.
Step 6 of 16: Click the 'Action' menu and select 'Update Driver Software'.
Step 7 of 16: Click 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
Step 8 of 16: Click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
Step 9 of 16: Click 'Have Disk'.
Step 10 of 16: Click 'Browse', and browse to the location where you extracted the ZIP file in Step 1.
Step 11 of 16: Double click 'wceusbsh.inf'.
Step 12 of 16: Select 'HTC USB Sync' from the list, and click 'Next'.
Step 13 of 16: Wait while your driver is installed. smile.gif
Step 14 of 16: Run 'Task Manager' by clicking the Start Orb and typing 'taskmgr'. Then find the 'WMDC.EXE' item, and click 'End Process'.
Step 15 of 16: Install your update! Everything should now run fine! You just need to bear in mind the final step when you want to start syncing normally again...
Step 16 of 16: In 'Windows Mobile Device Center', re-enable the 'allow USB connections' checkbox you disabled in Step 2.

double v double v double v point modaco point com/content/windows-mobile-news/252977/ruu-on-vista-it-can-be-done-the-ultimate-guide/
I had the same problem with SSPL not giving the USB on the bottom of the screen.
I just uninstalled the driver, unplugged, replugged and it installed the driver again.
I was running win7x64 in 'disable digital signature enforcement-or something'-mode though.

Go here: http://d-h.st/Kya and download the zip file. Inside is everything you need.
Unzip. The first one is the DFT_MLI_SAM1.exe. That is the one that gets MAGLDR on your phone.
Once that is done, the other DFT_WPI_SAM1.exe file is the best 7.8 ROM I have used yet.
It is discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984
To install:
0.) Have MAGLDR installed on your phone and Samsung Drivers installed on your PC
1.) Place the zip files 'OS.D000FF + CSC.D000FF + DFT_WPI_SAM1.exe + rapitool.exe + Readme.txt' in a folder
2.) Go to 'Settings' -> 'about' -> 'reset your phone' -> 'yes' -> 'yes'
3.) Right when the screen goes black press and hold 'voldown + camera'
4.) Press '<-' (cancel)
5.) Plug your phone into your PC
6.) Flash OS.D000FF + CSC.D000FF with DFT_WPI_SAM1.exe
7.) Wait
8.) Go through setup wizard on phone
9.) Go to 'Settings' -> 'about' -> 'reset your phone' -> 'yes' -> 'yes'
10.) Enjoy

http://windowsphonehacker.com/artic...r_and_custom_roms_on_samsung_devices-02-08-12
^^ great tutorial by Windows Phone Hacker Jaxbot on how to go about custom ROMming it up. Make sure you've got the drivers he refers to in the video (seriously just google "Samsung USB Drivers For Mobile" and DL them) and then follow the directions.
Watch the video on the WPH site first, and don't freak out if it takes a while when you do it. The usb/computer/phone picture will probably stay on the screen for a while before a progress bar appears. Also, make sure you hard reset the phone once the new ROM is flashed.
Can't Get it to Work
have a Samsung Focus 1.3 and I am trying to Install Clean ROM 3.0.
I believe I have all the proper drivers installed on my computer (Samsung USB, WMDC) I have installed MAGLDR 2.00 on the phone and I can enter MAGLDR mode by pressing volume down + cam + power. Upon pressing back it says "Wait USB" and as soon as I connect I see "USB! CMD connected"
However, when I run DWPI I get the following error:
Please make sure that your device is connected to your computer.
also make sure that right drivers are installed (Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Center)
Try to connect device to different USB port and also you can try to reboot PC.
Also you can try to exclude USB hubs.

I installed Magldr and Clean Rom just the other day and encountered the exact error, but I wish I paid attention to what I had done to resolve it. I believe it matters when you connect the phone to the computer. Try this:
- Disconnect your phone from the computer
- Run the Magldr installation and proceed through the steps until the point where you have to click Next to start the installation (do not start the install, just leave it at the screen just before the installation starts)
- Follow the steps mentioned before to get your phone ready for Download mode
- Now connect your phone to the computer and confirm that the device is connected and ready
- Go back to the Magldr installation window and proceed with the installation
I want to say, at least in my case, making sure the phone was connected to the computer when everything was ready (versus leaving it connected all the time), helped resolve the error.
Good luck!
I just installed Magdlr and CleanRom and got this error too. All I had to do was close the installer and unplug the phone from my PC for a few seconds. Once I plugged the phone back in and started the installer it worked the second time.
Camera button don't work.
