someone...somebody..help me..
ok, I don't have windows 7, but on XP make sure you have "allow usb connections" enabled in activesync connection settings before you connect device to pc. This will ensure that bottom of bootloader will change from "serial" to "usb"
Hi
You need to start Windows 7 in safe mode, if I am not mistaken. Somewhere on the net there is a description to the whole procedure.
Regards
HI,
quick question, which activsync are you using? For windows 7 you cannot use the "old"microsoft active sync, the new oneis windows mobile device center. It should work to have your phone recognize usb.
Just a thought.
HI
Here is some help, good for me:
Just after the launch of Windows Vista and Windows7, we reported that RUUs (ROM upgrades), do not work on the OS.
Now, courtesy of sp3dev @ XDA-Developers, a solution has been found... and i've taken his basic instructions and posted them below with full screenshots and the very latest driver files extracted from ActiveSync 4.5.
News page readers can find the 16-step (not as bad as it sounds!) walkthrough after the jump! biggrin.gif
Before starting: Your device needs to be connected to the PC, and in BOOTLOADER mode.
Step 1 of 16: Extract this zip file to a memorable location on your machine (e.g. the desktop). This is the Activesync 4.5 RTM USB driver.
Attached File VistaRUU.zip ( 37.8K )
Step 2 of 16: Run 'Windows Mobile Device Center', and click 'Connection Settings'.
Step 3 of 16: Uncheck the 'Allow USB Connections' box, and select 'OK'.
Step 4 of 16: Run 'Services' by clicking the Start Orb and typing 'Services', and ensure the 'Windows Mobile-based connectivity' and Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity' services are started. If they are not, click the service name and press the 'play' button on the top bar.
Step 5 of 16: Load 'Device Manager' by clicking the Start Orb and typing 'Device Manager'. Expand the 'Mobile devices' section and click the 'HTC USB Sync' (or similarly named) item.
Step 6 of 16: Click the 'Action' menu and select 'Update Driver Software'.
Step 7 of 16: Click 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
Step 8 of 16: Click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
Step 9 of 16: Click 'Have Disk'.
Step 10 of 16: Click 'Browse', and browse to the location where you extracted the ZIP file in Step 1.
Step 11 of 16: Double click 'wceusbsh.inf'.
Step 12 of 16: Select 'HTC USB Sync' from the list, and click 'Next'.
Step 13 of 16: Wait while your driver is installed. smile.gif
Step 14 of 16: Run 'Task Manager' by clicking the Start Orb and typing 'taskmgr'. Then find the 'WMDC.EXE' item, and click 'End Process'.
Step 15 of 16: Install your update! Everything should now run fine! You just need to bear in mind the final step when you want to start syncing normally again...
Step 16 of 16: In 'Windows Mobile Device Center', re-enable the 'allow USB connections' checkbox you disabled in Step 2.

I had the same problem with SSPL not giving the USB on the bottom of the screen.
I just uninstalled the driver, unplugged, replugged and it installed the driver again.
I was running win7x64 in 'disable digital signature enforcement-or something'-mode though.

Have you ever heard about the wiki?
Vista must die today!!!!
If only new users spend some time reading wiki, everything is there... When I had to upgrade using windows vista, it worked the first time... I just read and follow the step by step instruction from wiki...
Thanks, it's work!!!
Dangit, I can get these upgrades to work when I'm at work on an XP machine, but I can't for the life of me get it to work on my home Vista 64bit machines. And yes, I HAVE read the wiki, and this post, and that post and many other posts that all give the same directions.
Disabling driver signature enforcement on the 64bit driver doesn't do any good either. It gives an error trying to install the driver.
You just gotta love computers. A ton of people can get something to work, and then a person that programs for a living will come along and can't get it to work. Makes you feel like a total goober. *sigh*
Maybe I have an old XP machine gathering dust in storage somewhere. *grumble*
Hi all.
This is another method for installing windows XP on the Shift. It uses WPI (Windows Post Install) for running every installation in sequence, so it should be easier for everybody.
Most steps have been simplified, so hopefully you only have to press a lot of buttons, and you'll end with an almost perfect XP installation.
Download this:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca737a/n/WPI_exe
Follow these steps:
1.- Install Windows XP Tablet, or plain Windows XP and use the TabletPCPatch. Take out SD card.
2.- Execute WPI.exe, decompress to C: (type c: and enter)
3.- Execute c:\WPI\wpi.hta
4.- In the applications list that appears, select OmniPass if you wan to use the fingerprint reader and ActiveSync, then click on "Begin Install"
5.- Chipset: next, yes, next, next, finish with reboot.
6.- VGA: next, next, yes, next, next, finish with reboot. Add resolution to registry, yes, yes.
7.- EC Driver: next, finish.
8.- TouchScreen: next, next.
Next and follow trough the three windows of "new hardware found", before rebooting!. Finish with reboot the Touch Screen Driver.
9.- TouchPad: next, next, next, finish with reboot.
10.- FingerPrint: next, accept, next, next, next, install, finish.
11.- Audio: press any key, next, DON'T REBOOT, finish, press any key.
12.- USB Lan: finish.
13.- WLAN: Drivers are copied to c:\wlandrivers, install from there when you are asked for them later.
14.- CYGWIN: next, "install from local directory", next, next, next, click the + sign next to "devel" and click on the word "skip" of the line "ioperm" so that "0.4-1" appears, next, deselect both icons creation, finish.
15.- HSECT: nothing to do here.
16.- BAT Files: Add batfiles to registry, yes, Ok.
17.- Astray: nothing to do here.
18.- SwapResolution: Add swapResolution to registry, yes, Ok.
Let it reboot after 20 seconds.
Now it usually asks about the WLAN drivers, see step nr. 13.
If it asks about drivers for Windows Mobile, just answer yes until it finishes.
Thanks to DeVictoria for the SwapResolution and the rest of you for adding comments.
Thanks for the step-by-step guide dproldan
Hi! Thank you very much for this post!!!
Just an information... Where can I find Windows Xp Tablet???
I have no external cdrom, can I run the installation of Windows Xp Tablet from USB key? How can I do???
Sorry but I'm at a very low level!!!!
Thank you!!!!
Beppe
I cant manage how to run BT/WF.
Its just doesent work. Cygwin seems to be ok, but when i want to run HSECT it shows that some dll is missing, or just disappearing.
I've managed how to install and run bluetooth correctly, but i cant install drivers for Wi-Fi.
"Device cannot start (CODE 10)"
Same stuff with sound. I have only Bluetooth Sound, nothing more.
And i cannot switch to SnapVue.
hi, i install windows xp tablet Pc edition 2005 english version,
step and step follow the new method for installing xp ,
it's ok but wifi ,
in device manager ,marvell sd8686wireless LAN SDIO Adapter #3 is yellow mark, and i can't use it ,
some thing wrong with me?
how can i star up the wifi for internet?
Thanks for the WinXP easy install process. I got everything working trying this package.
To get Wifi working, you have to copy the "copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot."
DO THIS IN SAFE MODE ONLY. This is how I got mine to work. I had the same problem with the yellow and not working wifi code 10 in the device manager.
If you copy this without in safe mode, it will not work because after the reboot the system will replace the overided version with the old one again.
thatboyp
'
yes..u re rite.. but in normal windows mode...the sdbus.sys also can be moved.
the overwrite sdbus.sys make the SD card SDHC no functioning.
on the contrary, if i update the sdio driver ...i mean overwrite the sdbus.sys the SDHC card 4g above will work but the wifi lan will not work.
we gona have the driver which works with these two functions
This automated driver installation is great help & instructions are very clear.
Many thanks to dproldan for all the hard work and excellent finish.
However, i had big issues to get wi-fi work but in the end removing the battery and then after that running turn WF on helped.
MAYBE REMOVING BATTERY HELPS WITH WI-FI ISSUE !!
i don't know if this helps but maybe next time:
- check in Vista that wi-fi is turned on
- do all the installing
- if wi-fi not working: remove battery and put it back
- then run WF on
- marvel appeared in device manager with yellow exclamation
- upgrade drivers from c:\wlandrivers
hth
Hallo,
thats perfect. Many Many thanks.
I've finally installed XP using the above WPI method which is fantastic - Many thanks for everyone's effort on it. I was very surprised that both BT and WiFi worked with no extra input or fiddling from me YAY!
BUT my touchscreen wouldn't work as the TabletPC patch doesn't self install and the instructions didn't state this. Luckily I found instructions elsewhere (it unzips to c:/temp and you have to manually run step1 and step2 the reboot) and now it's all working and super speedy compared to Vista.
Has anybody succeeded activating like all chipsets when going with Windows XP Tablet PC SP3 ?
as far as I know using XP involves the following inconvenience:
1. the touchscreen need a tweak in deactivating a HID driver to fully work (working to remove that)
2. making the WiFi work disables the SD Card port => if WiFi then no_SDcard !BIG PROBLEM! (solved by going to sleep then start up - original files, don't replace anything)
3. 800x480 resolution only => can't find any program to make "see" all resolution BUT " MultiRes " could change IF would be available ! !QUITE BIG PROBLEM! (working on it)
4. no native portrait look => try " iRotate " to rotate
5. can't program right upper buttons for exec'ing needed commands (such a Control Panel) (working on it - think I found something)
? I tend to use the latest available drivers, not the ones available on HTC, keeping updated is one of my fixed ideas
I tried Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7... I recommend Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3 for advanced users and Windows 7 for the world ON HTC SHIFT, not for pc or else...
If someone has any good and updated instructions set for installing Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3... please let me know, the genuine part I have already taken care of, I'm talking more about the drivers and all of that for all to work well, and I need XP for development, Windows 7 is not ready to be low-level programmed and is not suitable for me.
I'm not saying XP is better, I run Windows 7 on my main desktop because is quite powerfull and there's nothing I can't do on it, BUT I need XP for my beautifull Shift, it do think it more suitable
UPDATE ! After I installed Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 SP3, did Windows Update, restart... and discovered a bug wich allows us to use the WiFi without modifying no file, just go to sleep-mode and then start the device, all chipsets are going ok, I'm using a 16GB SDHC Silicon card, using wireless, bluetooth and all what I need... NO hacking required, looks like there's a exploit in power management's sleep mode... that's better for me, for now at least than giving up to SDslot for WiFi... so sleep -> wake, and you're ON !
Update 2: given up and going for Windows 7 which really makes a difference for touchscreen use

Hi Samstables,
I strongly need your help here for installing the TabletPC patch on WinXP.
I followed your steps for installing the TabletPC patch and I did not manage to have the Input Panel working. I can see it while booting Windows but I cannot call it from the taskbar icon.
In the above post you mentioned Step 1 and Step 2, then reboot and so I did it. What about step 3?
What is the size of the patch you used, it's important to know as I might have downloaded a damaged patch.
tanks tanks tanks!
Very good, but i have a problem:
if i reeboot then i don't have wifi.
I must remove from device manager the sdio card reader and then refresh the wifi and the card running.
PS: excuse me for my english
WPI_exe file no longer exist
Hi all,
I just got HTC shift and decide to install WinXP for faster response
Find this thread, but link for WPI below is dead
Can anybody reupload this file?
Thank's

Hi,
After the success of the Diamond Version of this guide I decided to "BRING THE RAIN" over here!! I noticed a post about a rom having random hard resets so I knew my calling was up!!
After what happened in the Diamond thread with the Tourists Im going to try and remove all repeat questions BEFORE they get asked so READ THIS WARNING:
F.A.T.M.T.I.D.Q:
(Frequently Asked TOO Many Times Infuriating Damn Questions):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1: "After task 28, I get this output in MTTY: Total Bad Block in CE: x"
2: "After task 29, I get this output in MTTY:
ERASE block xxx FAIL !!!
ERASE block xxx FAIL !!!"
(where x is a random number)
This has been asked 100+ times in the Diamond thread so this is the final time I will answer:
IT MEANS NOTHING..NADA..ZIP! I have not experienced ANY problem with this output...Please stop asking!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we all know MTTY is the key here, but I can say from personal experience that this small piece of software is a MASSIVE pain in the ass to get working, i must have tried 15-20 different “recommended” procedures to get it work and all failed.
But I managed to find a failsafe method of getting MTTY working on Vista AND Windows 7, also x86 AND x64!! (I have all 4 windows installations and the methods detailed below worked on all)
NOTE: WORKS WITHOUT DRIVER INSTALL ON XP
If for some reason you cannot got this to work on XP do the following: (Thanks kgerry!!)

1. Launch ActiveSync on PC
2. Go to connection settings
3. Uncheck the Allow USB Connection
4. bring the device to bootloader.
5. Now, run mtty ...
... try again to switch from COM1 to USB and follow the instructions of perfect post 3

Driver Installation
NOTE: Drivers only need installed ONCE. After this you can just connect in BOOTLOADER and use MTTY.
Pre-Cursor To Driver Installation – FOR EVERYONE (x64/x86 Vista/Win 7)
This will remove the need for users, x64 in particular, to use “Unsigned Drivers.” Also since in Vista SP2 (x64 & x86) they removed the “F8” options Completely!
Files Needed:
Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider
Remove Watermark V0.8
1: Run the Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider and select “ENABLE TEST MODE” and Press Next
2: There will be a warning to REBOOT, Press “OK”
3: Go Back to Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider Select “Exit” then Click “Next”
4: REBOOT
5: Run the “Remove Watermark V0.8” for you OS type (x64 or x84)
6: In the Command Window type “Y” and wait for the process to complete
7: Once complete REBOOT your system and begin the driver install
NOTE: If you DO NOT complete the above, some users will need to press "F8" During Bootup - (ANOTHER NOTE FOR x64 USERS, EVERY TIME YOU NEED TO USE MTTY YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER, HIT F8 AND SELECT: "START WINDOWS WITHOUT DIGITALLY SIGNED DRIVER CHECK")
For Info See Post Below:
Reb0rn said:
I must just say that u might have to watch the x64bit drivers if they are digitally signed... Cuz neither Vista 64 nor Windows 7 64 will let u load or start those drivers if they are not digitally signed.
IF that the case and if u have installed the driver but it says that it has stopped it due to the driver not been Digitally signed u have to start windows vista/7 in "ignore digitally signed drivers" mode.
When u start the computer, keep hitting F8 and it will prompt you if u want to start in safe mode bla bla and in the bottom of that list there is an option that goes something like this:
Start Windows without Digitally signed Driver Check... or sumthing like that...
This is only if u have problems with the x64 driver... like i did...
BTW... u made a beautiful how-to man. Great job!

Big thanks to maybeme for providing a host for the images!!
1: Download the relevant drivers for your system attached to this post: these work for both Vista and Win7, all you have to choose is x86 or x64
EDIT: It has been found that with different versions of Windows 7 x64 need different Active Sync Drivers... If you are using Windows x64 please try x64 AS Drivers Win 7 Tested & Working.zip FIRST!!!
2: Connect Device to PC via Active Sync, Once Connected Uncheck USB Connections,DISCONNECT DEVICE then Reboot Computer
3: Bring device into bootloader (Reset + Hold Vol Down), This will show the Red, Blue, Green screen showing "Serial" - Once Computer booted, connect device in bootloader mode to USB, the word "Serial" will change to "USB"
4: Go to "Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager" and select Microsoft Usb Sync in Mobile Devices section (NOTE: This MAY say HTC USB Sync but as long as you select your device!!):
5: Right Click and Select "Properties" then go to Driver tab, then Select "Update Driver"
6: Choose to "Browse Computer For Driver" (the second option):
7: Select "Let Me Pick From A List...." (the second option):
8: Click "Have Disk":
9: Select the folder with downloaded driver From Step 1 and select "wceusbsh.inf" (this is the same file for x86 & x64):
10: You will get back to previous screen, then click Install
10a: WINDOWS 7 ONLY - The Below Warning will appear, Select "Install anyway":
11: The drivers will be successfully installed:
12: When you get back to "Driver Properties" check driver version. If the "Driver Date" has changed from 2nd step (2003 instead of 2007 - The year does not matter as long as it is not 2007!!), the installation has been a sucess:
13: Lastly leave the device connected and in "Bootloader" and reboot you system. Upon Rebooting an "Unknown Device" is installed, this is your HTC device.
Now the Active Sync Drivers are Installed

Reboot first, and you should then see the mention of this mode in the lower right corner of the desktop.
After that use Remove Watermark also from second post to keep your machine in this mode for ever and ever, without having the annoying Developer Watermark.
Ok ! Understand ! that's why this "ONLY" point didn't work !
Thanks for help !

After that :
1: Run the Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider and select “ENABLE TEST MODE” and Press Next
2: There will be a warning to REBOOT, Press “OK”
Have i reboot ? Or i have to go to point 3 directly ?

Your welcome
Seems ok now ! Will tell you when i will flash another rom
See ya Dude !
Love this procedure. now, it is taking less than 30 seconds to format before I flash a new ROM. Much faster than flashing a stock ROM.

I had some trouble using MTTY on Win7 x64. Soooo, i switched over to my business laptop running WinXP.
First time run, worked perfectly! Thank you so much for this. I have flashed my HD2 over 30 times and it started showing some funny things that other users didn't experience with the same ROM.
Again. Thank you.

You need a dev unlocked phone.
Use the chevron wp7 method.
IF YOU HAVE ERRORS CONECTING THE PHONE TO CHEVRONwp7 PROGRAM, two ways to try to solve it.
METHOD ONE:
1. Have Winphone developer tools installed. Download it for yourself
2. Connect Phone via USB
3. Wait till zune starts and sync completes
4. Verify that zune is not in a guest relationship
5. open a command prompt, type netstat -a to confirm that port 443 is not being used
6. open an admin command prompt, navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ then type notepad hosts and delete any references to windowsphone developer services
7. go to the settings on the phone and turn airplane mode on (so that the phone is forced to use internet via zune)
8. While the phone is still on the settings page, run Chevron with admin privileges
Attention: if port 443 is used (see on your list) stop IIS or exit Skype program
METHOD 2
1. Click the Windows Icon.
2. On the search box, type device manager, click enter
3. Click continue when prompted
4. On the device manager window, find "Portable Devices"
5. Right click on your Leo. Uninstall
6. Unplug your device. if you can find another "Portable Devices" uninstall it also (as it was for my case)
7. Restart PC
8. Plug device again (Do not open Zune software yet)
9. Windows should try to install driver for the device. Click on it. After installing there should be two things in there... the other one is your Leo ready to use. I can't remember the other one, but I think it is "storage card ready to use"
10. When done correctly. Zune will open up on its own.
11. See the device sync
12. Your free space should appear in the zune software
13. Run Chevron
14. It should open now without the "uh oh" error
Then follow the original instruction on how to install chevron
I have tried it on my omnia 7 and it works. The HTC Hub can be found as an .xap file in the xda wp7 forums if im not wrong. you can install it with Tom's Xap Installer 1.2 in the xda forums too
HOPE I HELPED
Hey Guys,
As we all know, the SmartQ Restore Tool for the Zwatch doesn't work on 64 bit Windows OS'. The community had come to a collective answer that it will never work and the only solution is to use a computer with a 32 Bit Windows OS.
However, this is not the case. Today, I was able to restore my Zwatch from my 64 Bit Windows 7 laptop. Here is a small tutorial on how I got it to work.
Step 1) Enable Test Signing
Start>Type CMD>Right click CMD and then choose Run as administrator.
In CMD, type or paste this command, followed by enter.
Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
Now close the CMD window.
Step 2) Restart
Step 3) Install the SmartQ Restore Tool application.
Step 4) Open SmartQ Restore Tool and connect and put your watch in restore mode.
Step 5) Start>type Device Manager>Right click JZ4770 Boot Device>Update Device Software
A window prompt will pop up. Choose "Let me choose a driver from my computer"
Another prompt will come up. Choose "Show All Devices" (its the first option in the list)
Then choose let me browse.
Navigate to the Program Files (x86) folder > Smartdevices > Driver > x64
Choose the .inf file and click OK.
You will see an installing driver message, and after a few minutes it should complete. If you switch back to the restore tool, your zwatch should have begun to restore. If not, unplug then plugin again the USB connected to the zwatch. It should start recovering then.
Thank you!
