Step by Step instructions for installing XP - Shift General

Hello all.
I will update these instructions as needed.
With these instructions you can install any version of windows XP, SP2 or SP3. It doesn´t need to be a tablet edition. I recommend using a lite or optimized version.
As far as I know, only two things are not working, resolution changer and tablet input panel. Both will be fixed soon.
You have to install Activesync too if you want to access the other half of your Shift.
Thank you to all the people who contributed on the other thread!
Enjoy!
1.- Download and save to a USB disk drive:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/fa3eb2/n/drivers_shift_XP_rar

or http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/4449594/drivers_shift_XP.rar.4449594.TPB.torrent
Be sure to extract the rar file before starting or have a unrar program installer available, you cannot extract rar files on a newly installed windows XP!

8.- Run HTC Shift XP Drivers\TouchScreen(1[1].1.0.2)\ATSV1102(WHQLed).exe next, next, next and reboot when finished.
9.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\Synaptics MicroPad(10[1].0.11.1)\setup.exe , reboot when finished.
10.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\Audio\WDM_R195\setup.exe , reboot when finished.
11.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\fingerprint\setup.exe .
12.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\omnipass 5.0\setup.exe. Reboot when finished.
13.- run HTC Shift XP Drivers\USB LAN\setup.exe .
14.- run cygwin\setup.exe, and select install from folder. select ioperm from the devel subfolder.
Unselect icons on desktop and start menu and finish.
Run cygwin.bat from c:\cygwin
type “ioperm –i” + enter and “exit” + enter
move hsect-2.1\hsect2.exe and move it to c:\cygwin\bin
15.- move the bat files from \archivos bat\ to the desktop.

19.- Install the WLAN drivers , from the hardware manager, right button over marvell SDIO… update driver, and select the HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN folder.

Thanks for the step-by-step guide dproldan! I have a couple questions:
- What is left out as far as functionality with the XP install compared to Vista or will everythign work as far as the camera, control center buttons, etc...
- Any hopes soon for resolution changer and tablet input panel functioning?
- Without the mobility center built-in Vista, is the conenction to snapview done just via active sync?
- Download link for TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe does not work and torrent has absolutely no availability. Any alternatives?
Thanks again!

Thanks Great
This is what we needed good job again thanks.
Hope sombody do the same with the flash rom to get the gps etc.
The shift is getting better and better

CRC failed in Temp\TABLETPC\l1033.dlm

Which drivers are for the G3 modem? I dont see them in the XP Drivers pack, or, are they built-in in XP already?
Also, any luck now or in the future to make the GPS work under XP?

You can use the 3G modem with USBTool and internet sharing programs from the windows mobile side, the RNDIS drivers are installed automatically the first time you connect.
GPS works fine on XP using franson GPSGate and activesync.

If I install XP on my Shift...
Will things still be controlled in SnapVUE?
I say this because my audio is dead, because snapvue is dead--if I install XP will sound be dead or does installing XP Usurp Snapvue?

Here's some comments surrounding these questions.
1. Your SnapVue must be Liberated to use 3G for XP.
2. You must install ActiveSync on XP
3. Go into SnapVUe and open USB Tool and "Attach to Vista"
4. Active sync will start.
5. Once connected/sync'd go to Snap Vue, Programs, Internet sharing. XP will find the network sharing connection and set it up
6. You now have 3G on XP
ultraman982 - why not ressurect SnapVue or is it totally screwed? HTC have the clear SnapVue tool which I have used successfully...turned it back to normal. I have had nil sound issues.
In fact, to get things as clean as possible I did an Fcn F3 for Vista, cleared SnapVue then started from there. Good to start with a clean base.

Good work ! Very Well !!!
Only 2 notes :
1- what about right buttons ?
2- i must entered by recovery console for copying sdbus.sys, otherwise XP put in \system32\drivers an older version of this file.
Sorry for my bad English - I love spaghetti & pomodoro !

-right buttons work as expected, keep the stilus pressed until a mouse icon appears
- I didn't have to do anything with the recovery console, but I used an optimized version. I'll update the instructions if more people report the same problem.

no mouse right button
two buttons on the right of shift.

Nice job!
Thanks for sharing. Now I get it

I'm stuck with the cygwin part of the installation. Can anybody help me please with a more detailed instruction on how to insert the ioperm command? When I download the whole cygwin thing from the download source it seem gigantic. Do I need all this?

Hi,
thanks a lot for your work! It is excellent!
I have installed XP Tablet Pc Edition 2005, I have not used this point:
6.- run TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe, it will extract files to C:\temp,
Go to C:\temp and run step1.reg,
Run Step2.bat
Leave it alone until de hard disk stops and reboot
For this point I have restarted the PC with recovery console for copy correctly the file:
18.- copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot.
One issue:
after I have installed all the drivers I have tried to install a Bluetooth mouse....the installation is finished ok...the mouse works...but I cannot use the touchscreen...
I have reinstalled the touch driver....all works ok...but at next reboot touch stop working...
Michele

ioperm...
thank you, sensa, for your quick reply.
When I type the command "ioperm -i" into the cygwin window I get this:
"ioperm.sys is already installed. StartService function call failed."
Any idea?

There are simple instructions here:

Have you ever heard about the wiki?
Vista must die today!!!!
If only new users spend some time reading wiki, everything is there... When I had to upgrade using windows vista, it worked the first time... I just read and follow the step by step instruction from wiki...
Thanks, it's work!!!
Dangit, I can get these upgrades to work when I'm at work on an XP machine, but I can't for the life of me get it to work on my home Vista 64bit machines. And yes, I HAVE read the wiki, and this post, and that post and many other posts that all give the same directions.
Disabling driver signature enforcement on the 64bit driver doesn't do any good either. It gives an error trying to install the driver.
You just gotta love computers. A ton of people can get something to work, and then a person that programs for a living will come along and can't get it to work. Makes you feel like a total goober. *sigh*
Maybe I have an old XP machine gathering dust in storage somewhere. *grumble*

New method for installing XP

Hi all.
This is another method for installing windows XP on the Shift. It uses WPI (Windows Post Install) for running every installation in sequence, so it should be easier for everybody.
Most steps have been simplified, so hopefully you only have to press a lot of buttons, and you'll end with an almost perfect XP installation.
Download this:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca737a/n/WPI_exe
Follow these steps:
1.- Install Windows XP Tablet, or plain Windows XP and use the TabletPCPatch. Take out SD card.
2.- Execute WPI.exe, decompress to C: (type c: and enter)
3.- Execute c:\WPI\wpi.hta
4.- In the applications list that appears, select OmniPass if you wan to use the fingerprint reader and ActiveSync, then click on "Begin Install"
5.- Chipset: next, yes, next, next, finish with reboot.
6.- VGA: next, next, yes, next, next, finish with reboot. Add resolution to registry, yes, yes.
7.- EC Driver: next, finish.
8.- TouchScreen: next, next.
Next and follow trough the three windows of "new hardware found", before rebooting!. Finish with reboot the Touch Screen Driver.
9.- TouchPad: next, next, next, finish with reboot.
10.- FingerPrint: next, accept, next, next, next, install, finish.
11.- Audio: press any key, next, DON'T REBOOT, finish, press any key.
12.- USB Lan: finish.
13.- WLAN: Drivers are copied to c:\wlandrivers, install from there when you are asked for them later.
14.- CYGWIN: next, "install from local directory", next, next, next, click the + sign next to "devel" and click on the word "skip" of the line "ioperm" so that "0.4-1" appears, next, deselect both icons creation, finish.
15.- HSECT: nothing to do here.
16.- BAT Files: Add batfiles to registry, yes, Ok.
17.- Astray: nothing to do here.
18.- SwapResolution: Add swapResolution to registry, yes, Ok.
Let it reboot after 20 seconds.
Now it usually asks about the WLAN drivers, see step nr. 13.
If it asks about drivers for Windows Mobile, just answer yes until it finishes.
Thanks to DeVictoria for the SwapResolution and the rest of you for adding comments.
Thanks for the step-by-step guide dproldan
Hi! Thank you very much for this post!!!
Just an information... Where can I find Windows Xp Tablet???
I have no external cdrom, can I run the installation of Windows Xp Tablet from USB key? How can I do???
Sorry but I'm at a very low level!!!!
Thank you!!!!
Beppe
I cant manage how to run BT/WF.
Its just doesent work. Cygwin seems to be ok, but when i want to run HSECT it shows that some dll is missing, or just disappearing.
I've managed how to install and run bluetooth correctly, but i cant install drivers for Wi-Fi.
"Device cannot start (CODE 10)"
Same stuff with sound. I have only Bluetooth Sound, nothing more.
And i cannot switch to SnapVue.
hi, i install windows xp tablet Pc edition 2005 english version,
step and step follow the new method for installing xp ,
it's ok but wifi ,
in device manager ,marvell sd8686wireless LAN SDIO Adapter #3 is yellow mark, and i can't use it ,
some thing wrong with me?
how can i star up the wifi for internet?
Thanks for the WinXP easy install process. I got everything working trying this package.
To get Wifi working, you have to copy the "copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot."
DO THIS IN SAFE MODE ONLY. This is how I got mine to work. I had the same problem with the yellow and not working wifi code 10 in the device manager.
If you copy this without in safe mode, it will not work because after the reboot the system will replace the overided version with the old one again.
thatboyp
'
yes..u re rite.. but in normal windows mode...the sdbus.sys also can be moved.
the overwrite sdbus.sys make the SD card SDHC no functioning.
on the contrary, if i update the sdio driver ...i mean overwrite the sdbus.sys the SDHC card 4g above will work but the wifi lan will not work.
we gona have the driver which works with these two functions
This automated driver installation is great help & instructions are very clear.
Many thanks to dproldan for all the hard work and excellent finish.
However, i had big issues to get wi-fi work but in the end removing the battery and then after that running turn WF on helped.
MAYBE REMOVING BATTERY HELPS WITH WI-FI ISSUE !!
i don't know if this helps but maybe next time:
- check in Vista that wi-fi is turned on
- do all the installing
- if wi-fi not working: remove battery and put it back
- then run WF on
- marvel appeared in device manager with yellow exclamation
- upgrade drivers from c:\wlandrivers

Hallo,
thats perfect. Many Many thanks.
I've finally installed XP using the above WPI method which is fantastic - Many thanks for everyone's effort on it. I was very surprised that both BT and WiFi worked with no extra input or fiddling from me YAY!
BUT my touchscreen wouldn't work as the TabletPC patch doesn't self install and the instructions didn't state this. Luckily I found instructions elsewhere (it unzips to c:/temp and you have to manually run step1 and step2 the reboot) and now it's all working and super speedy compared to Vista.
Has anybody succeeded activating like all chipsets when going with Windows XP Tablet PC SP3 ?
as far as I know using XP involves the following inconvenience:
1. the touchscreen need a tweak in deactivating a HID driver to fully work (working to remove that)
2. making the WiFi work disables the SD Card port => if WiFi then no_SDcard !BIG PROBLEM! (solved by going to sleep then start up - original files, don't replace anything)
3. 800x480 resolution only => can't find any program to make "see" all resolution BUT " MultiRes " could change IF would be available ! !QUITE BIG PROBLEM! (working on it)
4. no native portrait look => try " iRotate " to rotate
5. can't program right upper buttons for exec'ing needed commands (such a Control Panel) (working on it - think I found something)
? I tend to use the latest available drivers, not the ones available on HTC, keeping updated is one of my fixed ideas
I tried Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7... I recommend Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3 for advanced users and Windows 7 for the world ON HTC SHIFT, not for pc or else...
If someone has any good and updated instructions set for installing Windows XP TabletPC 2005 SP3... please let me know, the genuine part I have already taken care of, I'm talking more about the drivers and all of that for all to work well, and I need XP for development, Windows 7 is not ready to be low-level programmed and is not suitable for me.
I'm not saying XP is better, I run Windows 7 on my main desktop because is quite powerfull and there's nothing I can't do on it, BUT I need XP for my beautifull Shift, it do think it more suitable
UPDATE ! After I installed Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 SP3, did Windows Update, restart... and discovered a bug wich allows us to use the WiFi without modifying no file, just go to sleep-mode and then start the device, all chipsets are going ok, I'm using a 16GB SDHC Silicon card, using wireless, bluetooth and all what I need... NO hacking required, looks like there's a exploit in power management's sleep mode... that's better for me, for now at least than giving up to SDslot for WiFi... so sleep -> wake, and you're ON !
Update 2: given up and going for Windows 7 which really makes a difference for touchscreen use

Hi Samstables,
I strongly need your help here for installing the TabletPC patch on WinXP.
I followed your steps for installing the TabletPC patch and I did not manage to have the Input Panel working. I can see it while booting Windows but I cannot call it from the taskbar icon.
In the above post you mentioned Step 1 and Step 2, then reboot and so I did it. What about step 3?
What is the size of the patch you used, it's important to know as I might have downloaded a damaged patch.
tanks tanks tanks!
Very good, but i have a problem:
if i reeboot then i don't have wifi.
I must remove from device manager the sdio card reader and then refresh the wifi and the card running.
PS: excuse me for my english
WPI_exe file no longer exist
Hi all,
I just got HTC shift and decide to install WinXP for faster response
Find this thread, but link for WPI below is dead
Can anybody reupload this file?

video driver doesn't work for me.. i don't know why...supid htc computer...
Worked fine for me! The only thing I had to do differently was use the msi file instead of the exe with the fingerprint software.
I also had a bit of trouble with the XP installation but I used an EEE USB install procedure and had to mess with the bios a bit to get rid of the hal.dll issue.
edit: holocantus, the wlan adapter doesn't always show up instantly when you push the 'on' button. I've had to switch it on and off a couple of times before it worked.

HTC Drivers will not install

Hi folks,
I have a HTC Mytouch 4g that I cannot get connected to my PC. It charges through the USB cable but I cannot get the computer to recognize it. I have tried to install the HTC Drivers but they get partially into the install and it just stops and the install wizard disappears. I have run the driver install as an administrator too. I even tried installing PDaNet but failed because it would not install without recognizing the phone. I got HTC Sync to install but it does not recognize the device. Looking for some help. Thanks!
My mytouch connects to any pc without a problem or drivers installed. From phone settings go to connect to pc. Choose a default USB connection or have the device ask you every time its connected.

I may be mistaking... but I'm pretty sure if you go into settings>applications>development> and check the USB Debugging box. Once you do that, you should have the option to "Mount as disk drive." I believe that's what I had to do to get ALL of the drivers successfully installed.
Hope this helps.
You always have the option to mount as disk drive. These are 2 separate USB functions - one is ADB debugger over USB, the other is the regular phone functionality. HTC drivers should be installed regardless of those selections. You don't need to enable USB debugging for that.

I remember having an issue with the drivers installation when I first rooted my phone. 3/4 drivers showed up as installed, but not one that had to go through windows update or something like that... it was a while ago. You're right... it didn't have anything to do with disk drive... If I remember correctly, all drivers didn't install correctly because USB debugging wasn't turned on.
Sorry about that.
This works ...

Hi,
Had many headaches myself with the latest offering of HTC Sync as the USB driver just wouldn't install ... however, this worked for me so it may be worth you trying:
A. Run HTC Sync setup until you reach the error regarding the drivers - DO NOT CLICK YES OR NO - leave it open (closing allows it to remove its temporary file... and we need them!)
B. Click Start - Run - %temp%\
C. Locate a folder that looks a bit like this: {0C8CBEC2-7B62-4ABC-9CB3-8CCAC7CD3D62}.The name will be different, but it will have the layout using A-F and 9-0, within that folder will be another similarly named folder, To make locating this folder easier, select view>details and sort the contents by date, the folder will have today’s date. In this folder locate the file named HTCDriver_4.0.0.009_20121107.exe; copy this file out to your desktop.
D. Close the HTC sync installer that you left open earlier, now run this HTCDRIVER file you just moved from you temp folder.
E.This installation will also come up with an error - AGAIN DO NOT CLOSE the window.
F.Click Start - Run - %temp%
G.Locate a similarly named folder in your %temp% folder, (you do not need to go into a subfolder as there is not one), there will be a file named HTCDriver.msi, copy this out and close the other installer.
H. You can now run HTCDriver.msi and the driver will install
I.Once this has installed, run the original HTC Sync or Sync Manager installation file. This will now run uninterrupted as the drivers are already installed and it will skip this stage.
I hope your issue is solved.

...wow.
That's one way to get around installer incompatibilities, I guess. Are all the people who are affected running Windows 8? I was having similar problems, and I can't remember how I eventually got around it (UND? Didn't care about HTC sync in the first place?)

Yeah, actually an easy fix, you just copy and paste the files from windows 7 into the windows 8 program files and it should work

[GUIDE] [ZWATCH] How to use SmartQ Restore Tool on 64 bit Windows OS

Hey Guys,
As we all know, the SmartQ Restore Tool for the Zwatch doesn't work on 64 bit Windows OS'. The community had come to a collective answer that it will never work and the only solution is to use a computer with a 32 Bit Windows OS.
However, this is not the case. Today, I was able to restore my Zwatch from my 64 Bit Windows 7 laptop. Here is a small tutorial on how I got it to work.
Step 1) Enable Test Signing
Start>Type CMD>Right click CMD and then choose Run as administrator.
In CMD, type or paste this command, followed by enter.
Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
Now close the CMD window.
Step 2) Restart
Step 3) Install the SmartQ Restore Tool application.
Step 4) Open SmartQ Restore Tool and connect and put your watch in restore mode.
Step 5) Start>type Device Manager>Right click JZ4770 Boot Device>Update Device Software
A window prompt will pop up. Choose "Let me choose a driver from my computer"
Another prompt will come up. Choose "Show All Devices" (its the first option in the list)
Then choose let me browse.
Navigate to the Program Files (x86) folder > Smartdevices > Driver > x64
Choose the .inf file and click OK.
You will see an installing driver message, and after a few minutes it should complete. If you switch back to the restore tool, your zwatch should have begun to restore. If not, unplug then plugin again the USB connected to the zwatch. It should start recovering then.
Thank you!
