Hi folks,
I have a HTC Mytouch 4g that I cannot get connected to my PC. It charges through the USB cable but I cannot get the computer to recognize it. I have tried to install the HTC Drivers but they get partially into the install and it just stops and the install wizard disappears. I have run the driver install as an administrator too. I even tried installing PDaNet but failed because it would not install without recognizing the phone. I got HTC Sync to install but it does not recognize the device. Looking for some help. Thanks!
My mytouch connects to any pc without a problem or drivers installed. From phone settings go to connect to pc. Choose a default USB connection or have the device ask you every time its connected.

I may be mistaking... but I'm pretty sure if you go into settings>applications>development> and check the USB Debugging box. Once you do that, you should have the option to "Mount as disk drive." I believe that's what I had to do to get ALL of the drivers successfully installed.
Hope this helps.
You always have the option to mount as disk drive. These are 2 separate USB functions - one is ADB debugger over USB, the other is the regular phone functionality. HTC drivers should be installed regardless of those selections. You don't need to enable USB debugging for that.

I remember having an issue with the drivers installation when I first rooted my phone. 3/4 drivers showed up as installed, but not one that had to go through windows update or something like that... it was a while ago. You're right... it didn't have anything to do with disk drive... If I remember correctly, all drivers didn't install correctly because USB debugging wasn't turned on.
Sorry about that.
This works ...

Hi,
Had many headaches myself with the latest offering of HTC Sync as the USB driver just wouldn't install ... however, this worked for me so it may be worth you trying:
A. Run HTC Sync setup until you reach the error regarding the drivers - DO NOT CLICK YES OR NO - leave it open (closing allows it to remove its temporary file... and we need them!)
B. Click Start - Run - %temp%\
C. Locate a folder that looks a bit like this: {0C8CBEC2-7B62-4ABC-9CB3-8CCAC7CD3D62}.The name will be different, but it will have the layout using A-F and 9-0, within that folder will be another similarly named folder, To make locating this folder easier, select view>details and sort the contents by date, the folder will have today’s date. In this folder locate the file named HTCDriver_4.0.0.009_20121107.exe; copy this file out to your desktop.
D. Close the HTC sync installer that you left open earlier, now run this HTCDRIVER file you just moved from you temp folder.
E.This installation will also come up with an error - AGAIN DO NOT CLOSE the window.
F.Click Start - Run - %temp%
G.Locate a similarly named folder in your %temp% folder, (you do not need to go into a subfolder as there is not one), there will be a file named HTCDriver.msi, copy this out and close the other installer.
H. You can now run HTCDriver.msi and the driver will install
I.Once this has installed, run the original HTC Sync or Sync Manager installation file. This will now run uninterrupted as the drivers are already installed and it will skip this stage.
I hope your issue is solved.

...wow.
That's one way to get around installer incompatibilities, I guess. Are all the people who are affected running Windows 8? I was having similar problems, and I can't remember how I eventually got around it (UND? Didn't care about HTC sync in the first place?)

Yeah, actually an easy fix, you just copy and paste the files from windows 7 into the windows 8 program files and it should work

Hi,
Yes I have it working with both USB / BT :=)
Try this procedure.
1. Download this file.
http://www.download.windowsupdate.c..._847432eec73e750d6d8056881f52a39fbc94587a.exe
2. Extract it using winrar. This will give you a file "wmupdate.msi"
3. Now be sure to logon to Vista as the built in admin and run "wmupdate.msi" and after that reboot and again login as built in admin, let it complete the install.
4.Login as your regular user, connect you phone and all should work:=)

Hi,
I'm running 5472 as well, but the update (from the file name) looks like it's mean for build 5460. Are you sure this is compatible with 5472? I just wanna make sure because I had just reinstalled my OS and don't want to go through the trouble of breaking it Of course, there's always system restore, but it can be a PITA for me sometimes.
tried it but dont seem to work, setup starts then vista picks up a new device, out of interest what does your wizard show up as in device manager? It couldnt auto find a driver, so i browsed to activesync dir and there was loads of MS drivers, also HTC drivers, i tried to choose HTC pocket pc but didnt work, its obviously not the Wizard drive its after as the wizard wasnt even plugged in.

Oh yeah, now I remember... 5472 was being a real pain with my MDA. I can't remember what I did exactly to fix the driver issue, but I believe I just pointed it to the root directory of the CD that came with the phone when it prompted for drivers. Just be persistent with it, and it should finally install
BTW, the file provided above works! It does install an older build of WMDC, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. The build provided with 5472 only works if you choose "quick connect", instead of establishing a partnership.

I had the Start CD that came with the device put in and it found the drivers needed from that auto.
And sure enough the provided file is for an older build but for me at least it does work.
And it shows up as "your username Windows Mobile-based device" in WIndows Explorer..see attached snapshot"

Oh I just looked at my initial reply and one thing I forgot to mention
I had to run the wmupdate.msi i file from a command prompt, and that also had to be started with administrator priviliges.

was struggling yesterday to connect mytouch to the desktop on windows XP. The phone connected to the moment, the drive showed up and when immediately disconnected.
I found this very helpful post on androidforums by pdl1 which I think needs to be posted in FAQ:
To connect an Android phone to a Windows PC, usually there are two steps:
1. Uninstall current Android USB drivers
2. Install new correct Android drivers
You accomplish 1 by downloading USBDeview to your PC here is the URL USBDeview - View all installed/connected USB devices on your system
Then unzip it and run USBDeview. Right click on each Android driver and delete it. Or you can remove traces of previous drives by removing all keys in registry using "Edit->Find and type in “vid_0bb4″ (no quotes)".
You accomplish 2 by going here Android 1.6 SDK, Release 1 | Android Developers
and downloading the whole Android SDK (software development kit) onto your PC. Extract it to a folder so you can look inside and find a sub-folder called usb_driver. Either move it somewhere easy or take careful note of it's exact location.
Now go to your Android phone. Open Settings. Touch Applicatons. Touch Development. Tap USB debugging to enable it. Then back out to the home page.
Connect your phone to the PC via the appropriate USB cord. Windows will open its New Hardware Wizard. Check that you will tell Windows where to find the files, and Browse to the location of the usb-driver folder. OK will ungrey and if you click it, the correct drivers will, at last, be loaded.
Almost finished. Now disconnect the phone, and repeat going to Settings>Applications>Development. Tap the debugger again to disable it. Back out to the Home Screen. Now connect your phone to the PC. It will be recognized, but in order to see and manipulate the SD card files, there's one more step. Pull down the little white bar at the top of the Android Phone screen. You will see a Notification "USB connected". Tap it and you will be given an option to Mount the phone. Touch Mount.
Now the any File Manager (Windows Explorer, etc.) will see your phone SD card as a separate drive. You can copy, move delete, whatever.
Quite a process, but once done, all you will have to do is connect the phone to the PC and pull down and Mount it.
Sorry if it was discussed already - I searched but could not find similar thread here
Hi,
How to install apk when:
- data connexion doesn't work
- there is no file browser installed by default by the build
- adding apk into Android/SystemApps or into Android/AndroidApps doesn't work befroe installing the build
I tried to use also I2APK but my HD2 is not recognized in windows XP: on the HD2 which usb mode i have to use in this case: charge only? Disk drive? ...
I havae already check the USB debugging mode.

Two options you got:
1. Wi-Fi which I assume u dont have ;-);
2. Download Droid Explorer on your computer (http://de.codeplex.com/) and install it. It detects your Android phone. You can install applications to your phone from there.
Hope it helps.
Thanks
This is assuming you're running with the folder name Android:
If it doesn't exist already, create a folder called AndroidApps under your Android folder. Copy the apk that you want to install into that folder. Reboot. (I'd suggest putting a file browser in there like astro or es file explorer). Most builds I've used will install whatever is in that folder on bootup. (When I do a new build, I usually put mybackuppro apk in there, so I can boot up and restore all my data and apps.)

Already done (see my post1) but with this ROM MCCM_HD_V1.2_Beta_3 it has no effect....
I used to do the same as you: all my favorite apk inside this rep.

- all builds will have android market in it, so download "Linda file manager"
- boot back to winmo
- connect device to pc (usb)
- transfer all your .apk files (assuming you got it in your pc) to a folder (its up to you to name this) in the sd card.
- boot back to android, open up Linda file manager and search for that folder
- there you can install the .apk files you got
Or use adb. Just get your right drivers installed

You just have to make sure the HD2 is booted into Android. Second thing is to make sure you exit out of HTC Sync program. Check in your system tray and right click and exit from it before launching Droid Explorer.
It works for me always.
Edit: n I dont have to choose any option on the HD2 screen, or you can choose 'Charge Only'. That works fine.

After a few hours on the net and with your advises i succeeded in installing ES File browser and every thing is OK now.
Just for my own information i tried to find a clear tuto of how to use adb and i couldn't find one: have you got one?
I need absolutly to install Android SDK?
What is the Good driver?
If i install this new driver it is not a risk of bad recognition if i connect my HD2 in WinMo mode?
For Droid explorer and I2apk it is this driver which is missign too?
Which USB mode on my HD2 device i have to choose to connect to adb? to droid or I2apk soft?
Regards and thanks again to everybody.
PS: @jigners: As i said i my first post Market Place didn't work because of non data connexion.
Okay, I have a permarooted MT4G with S=Off, and I want to use the gfree method to unlock my SIM and get the universal CID while I'm still on the stock kernel. All of the guides I see for that push the gfree files using the ADB.
Problem: I cannot get the Android SDK to recognize my MyTouch 4g. (SEE UPDATE)
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834748 to try and set up the ADB to no avail. This is what I did:
-- Downloaded the SDK, booted it up, let it update. Booted it up again, let it update EVERYTHING (took like 30 minutes) again. It has no more updates to install.
-- I tried adding adb as an environmental variable in windows, but the command prompt, no matter where I start it from, does not recognize 'adb' as "an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file." (works now)
-- The HTC Drivers that came with my device have been installed on my computer. So, I uninstalled them, only to have windows reinstall them as soon as I plug the device in (I'm running Windows 7 x64 home edition, Build 7601).
I tried going here http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/HTC/HOW-TO-Get-ADB-to-recognize-your-myTouch-4G/m-p/540017 and using their technique, no dice. My computer has the exact same drivers as when I started, and I have a digital paperweight of a SDK. (see update)
UPDATE: I now have a working ADB (big thanks to TrueBlue_Drew and his guide for us noobs) that recognizes my MT4G, but I have another issue:
FINAL QUESTION: Now that my MT4G is showing up in ADB, I realized I screwed up again when I discovered a "Android 1.0" item in the misc. section of my Devices window in Control Panel. It currently says that Android 1.0 needs troubleshooting and the drivers aren't working. I tried to direct windows to the usb drivers I downloaded from the both of the guides I've used, but windows wouldn't accept either one. Am I using the wrong drivers? Which ones should I tell windows to install? Should I even worry about it since adb is working? Any help on that end would VERY MUCH appreciated.

Do you mean the target of the environmental variable? If so, then no, because the name of the folder is android-sdk-windows, making the target C:/android-sdk-windows/tools, unless I'm totally off-base, which is probably what's happening.
Still, I don't think the target is C:\adb, cause I don't have anything in the root of my C drive that's named adb

Have you installed the drivers successfully? Here's what I do and it's worked on multiple computers and on both Windows 7 and XP:
- Install SDK
- Turn on USB Debugging on the phone.
- Plug the phone into the computer and let it try to install some stuff. Ignore any dialogs saying there were errors
- Mount the SD card and run the HTCDriver.exe file that came on the sd card when you got the phone.
- Unplug it from the computer and plug it in again.
- Open a command prompt and navigate to the tools subfolder of the android sdk. Run adb devices. (Even if the first time doesn't return your device's serial number, it should say that it's installing more drivers. Once that completes, adb devices should return your S/N and you should be good to go.)
So close, yet...

Actually no, adb.exe isn't It has a .txt named "Adb has moved," not really sure how to proceed from here; I downloaded the SDK that was in the topic I linked above, and just allowed it to update. More below, and thanks for the response.

Yeah, the problem is that my PC doesn't list any errors when I plug it in. BUT BIG NEWS, I followed the ADB for noobs guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928370), and I realized, as I said above, that my adb.exe file was nowhere to be found, so I used the one from the noob guide, and it could recognize my device in ADB. BUT it could not recognize my device in fastboot, so after much frustration, I decided to uninstall the drivers and reinstall using pda.net. Whatever it did, it worked, because adb and fastboot both show my serial number under devices. Thanks to the both of you for your help.
FINAL QUESTION: Now that my MT4G is showing up in ADB, I realized I screwed up again when I discovered a "Android 1.0" item in the Misc. section of my Devices window in Control Panel. so I got the latest Universal Naked Drivers 0.73 zip file, extraced it to its own folder on my desktop, and then I opened device manager, went to Other Devices>Nexus 4, right clicked, uninstalled, restarted my laptop and nexus 4, and then opened device manager again, and this time clicked on Update Drivers for nexus 4, and when I select browse files on my computer, then I click that folder, which has two sub folders in it, one for AMD64 and then i386, and there is also some other files in the main folder, outside the subfolders, called androidwinusba64 and androidwinusb86, as well as two more called android_apxusb and android_winusb.
But When i click on the main folder so it searched through that and the two subfolders, it keeps saying it's not finding any drivers for my device, and i've tried clicking on each of the sub folders, and neither of those make it work either. I've done what every guide has shown me, which I've installed drives hundreds of times in my 27years of life, and I have never had a problem before. Especially not with Android devices. I can't get my brand new 16gb nexus 4 that i just got yesterday (got it while I wait for Tmobile to get the Nex5 in stock, and then I am switching them out) to show up under my computer as a media device so I can actually drop files onto it. I dont get what the issue is here. I know that the 4.3 update (which I updated to last night when i first powered on my phone and activated it) cause some driver issues from what i've read, but supposedly they have been fixed or whatever, and this Naked Driver is supposed to help as well. But getting them installed first would work better lol. everytime I plug the phone in, it tries to install the drivers itself, but it keeps failing for some reason. Any thoughts on how to proceed ?
It's ADB driver, you need to enable USB Debugging. If you are using Windows 8, reboot it into advance mode and disable driver signature checking.

i already know all that lol I've been modding for quite a few years, so I know all about USB debugging, thanks tho. That's definitely not the problem. I can get the phone to work with ADB no problem, but I can't get it to show up as a media device like its supposed to when i have that selected in the USB mode options.
Oh, and I am sorry, I shoulda clarified, I am on Win 7. I already read about the Windows 8 thing tho. Which I got a copy of Win8, so I do plan on upgrading soon, check it out see what its like. But I just gto a new copy of Ubuntu, so I've been playing around with that a lot lately.
Anyone ? I have tried so many different things and Just can't get it to work, bout to chuck my laptop out the window lol
I can't speak for the naked drivers as I have never used them, but the ones that come with the SDK work fine with Win 7 on Android 4.3 (Copy and pasting files with Windows Explorer, adb, fastboot, etc.).
Did you resolve your issue? If not you should try to run "Usb Tree View" and make sure your phone internal USB switch is set to PDA and not MODEM or BOTH etc. I don't know how that works for the Nex4 but its a thing to look at.
