Help: i am blocked - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
How to install apk when:
- data connexion doesn't work
- there is no file browser installed by default by the build
- adding apk into Android/SystemApps or into Android/AndroidApps doesn't work befroe installing the build
I tried to use also I2APK but my HD2 is not recognized in windows XP: on the HD2 which usb mode i have to use in this case: charge only? Disk drive? ...
I havae already check the USB debugging mode.
Please help me
Regards

Two options you got:
1. Wi-Fi which I assume u dont have ;-);
2. Download Droid Explorer on your computer (http://de.codeplex.com/) and install it. It detects your Android phone. You can install applications to your phone from there.
Hope it helps.
Thanks

This is assuming you're running with the folder name Android:
If it doesn't exist already, create a folder called AndroidApps under your Android folder. Copy the apk that you want to install into that folder. Reboot. (I'd suggest putting a file browser in there like astro or es file explorer). Most builds I've used will install whatever is in that folder on bootup. (When I do a new build, I usually put mybackuppro apk in there, so I can boot up and restore all my data and apps.)

Already done (see my post1) but with this ROM MCCM_HD_V1.2_Beta_3 it has no effect....
I used to do the same as you: all my favorite apk inside this rep.
Regards

- all builds will have android market in it, so download "Linda file manager"
- boot back to winmo
- connect device to pc (usb)
- transfer all your .apk files (assuming you got it in your pc) to a folder (its up to you to name this) in the sd card.
- boot back to android, open up Linda file manager and search for that folder
- there you can install the .apk files you got

Or use adb. Just get your right drivers installed

You just have to make sure the HD2 is booted into Android. Second thing is to make sure you exit out of HTC Sync program. Check in your system tray and right click and exit from it before launching Droid Explorer.
It works for me always.
Edit: n I dont have to choose any option on the HD2 screen, or you can choose 'Charge Only'. That works fine.

Thanksss
Done....
After a few hours on the net and with your advises i succeeded in installing ES File browser and every thing is OK now.
Just for my own information i tried to find a clear tuto of how to use adb and i couldn't find one: have you got one?
I need absolutly to install Android SDK?
What is the Good driver?
If i install this new driver it is not a risk of bad recognition if i connect my HD2 in WinMo mode?
For Droid explorer and I2apk it is this driver which is missign too?
Which USB mode on my HD2 device i have to choose to connect to adb? to droid or I2apk soft?
Regards and thanks again to everybody.
PS: @jigners: As i said i my first post Market Place didn't work because of non data connexion.

[Q] Conecting to pc - HTC with android ?

Sorry if this is the wrong section...
I am using Energy Rom, radio 2.15.50.14 and HyperDroidV1.7★CM6★michyprima's R11+AXI★FINAL VERSION
I'm having trouble conecting my phone to my pc while on android. There is no problem when wm 6.5 is on. And i have no idea where the problem is. I've tried droidexplorer , it found my phone, but showed it as empty.
So if anyone can give me a solution.
anyone ?
what are you trying to accomplish, I use the bluetopia build with a windows 7 machine, and usb usb mass storage to move files, and htc sync for contacts or anything else. both work fine.
Its like my PC doesn't recongnize the phone (when android is on)... Like i haven't plugged anything.
I ended up having to use these drivers in order to get adb to work for me as the phone wasn't recognized on my pc either. Should also work for root explorer as well. I cannot remember who originally posted these drivers so I don't take credit for the discovery. Hope this helps.
i've installed it, but how can i transfer files to my phone ? Cus i cant see it anywhere. I tried droid explorer (think this is the correct name) but it doesnt recognize it...

Why don't you just set up ADB?
Gudie for setup
What version of windows are you using? Have you installed the android sdk? Is usb debugging checked?

HTC Drivers will not install

Hi folks,
I have a HTC Mytouch 4g that I cannot get connected to my PC. It charges through the USB cable but I cannot get the computer to recognize it. I have tried to install the HTC Drivers but they get partially into the install and it just stops and the install wizard disappears. I have run the driver install as an administrator too. I even tried installing PDaNet but failed because it would not install without recognizing the phone. I got HTC Sync to install but it does not recognize the device. Looking for some help. Thanks!
My mytouch connects to any pc without a problem or drivers installed. From phone settings go to connect to pc. Choose a default USB connection or have the device ask you every time its connected.

I may be mistaking... but I'm pretty sure if you go into settings>applications>development> and check the USB Debugging box. Once you do that, you should have the option to "Mount as disk drive." I believe that's what I had to do to get ALL of the drivers successfully installed.
Hope this helps.
You always have the option to mount as disk drive. These are 2 separate USB functions - one is ADB debugger over USB, the other is the regular phone functionality. HTC drivers should be installed regardless of those selections. You don't need to enable USB debugging for that.

I remember having an issue with the drivers installation when I first rooted my phone. 3/4 drivers showed up as installed, but not one that had to go through windows update or something like that... it was a while ago. You're right... it didn't have anything to do with disk drive... If I remember correctly, all drivers didn't install correctly because USB debugging wasn't turned on.
Sorry about that.
This works ...

Hi,
Had many headaches myself with the latest offering of HTC Sync as the USB driver just wouldn't install ... however, this worked for me so it may be worth you trying:
A. Run HTC Sync setup until you reach the error regarding the drivers - DO NOT CLICK YES OR NO - leave it open (closing allows it to remove its temporary file... and we need them!)
B. Click Start - Run - %temp%\
C. Locate a folder that looks a bit like this: {0C8CBEC2-7B62-4ABC-9CB3-8CCAC7CD3D62}.The name will be different, but it will have the layout using A-F and 9-0, within that folder will be another similarly named folder, To make locating this folder easier, select view>details and sort the contents by date, the folder will have today’s date. In this folder locate the file named HTCDriver_4.0.0.009_20121107.exe; copy this file out to your desktop.
D. Close the HTC sync installer that you left open earlier, now run this HTCDRIVER file you just moved from you temp folder.
E.This installation will also come up with an error - AGAIN DO NOT CLOSE the window.
F.Click Start - Run - %temp%
G.Locate a similarly named folder in your %temp% folder, (you do not need to go into a subfolder as there is not one), there will be a file named HTCDriver.msi, copy this out and close the other installer.
H. You can now run HTCDriver.msi and the driver will install
I.Once this has installed, run the original HTC Sync or Sync Manager installation file. This will now run uninterrupted as the drivers are already installed and it will skip this stage.
I hope your issue is solved.

...wow.
That's one way to get around installer incompatibilities, I guess. Are all the people who are affected running Windows 8? I was having similar problems, and I can't remember how I eventually got around it (UND? Didn't care about HTC sync in the first place?)

[XAP's] copy/backup your favorite app

Hi there
here is an example how you can easy backup your favorite apps to your pc
Be sure your Samsung ativ S is fully unlocked and full filesystem access.
1: install your favorite app from the store
for this example we use the trail version of AppoinTile ( so i do NOTHING illegal !!! )
2: connect your fuly unlocked samsung ativ s to your pc
3: then goto your favorite app directory (in this test the trail version of AppoinTile)
This PC\Samsung ATIV S\Phone\Data\programs\{DDE4E2AC-9EA5-4B05-8BBD-CB7867B01D9C}\Install
3: copy all the content to a map on your pc (in this test case 25 files)
4: go on your pc to that new created directory and REMOVE the file WMAppPRHeader.xml
5: now select all files and ZIP the files with winrar of 7zip
6: now rename the file .zip to .xap and you have now backupped your favorite app.
i hope you can use it to backup your favorite apps.
good luck with it

I wouldn't count on that . Most apps do have code to check whether the production version of their app has a valid PlayReady header file and will cease to function otherwise.
Personally I succeed to backup/restore the trail version of Appointile by removing the WMAppPRHeader.xml AND MDILFileList.xml if not I've got an “Error-deployment optimization failed with error “unable to read input file”...”
But I don't succeed with others apps (like oneshot) I've always “Error optimization failed due to an invalid assambly. Rebuild your source projects and try again”.
Indeed apps must have a code to check.
Did the path changed after GDR3 update???
this will also make it "not-a-trial" anymore, since you de-associated the xap with the license
How do you get the data folder to show up on PC please?
First your Ativ S needs to be unlocked. Then you need to activate Full USB file system access.
You can do this easily with WPH Tweaks or SamWP8 Tools.
Then just connect it via USB to your PC.
Is possible install your files .xap in my phone or your files .xap is only for your phone?
Thanks.

Try with SamWP8 Tools by -W_O_L_F-
In "TWEAKS", check 'Full FS Access', reset your device and plug it via USB to PC (still does not work); reset again. unplug it from PC and plug it, again. Wait a minute. Now it should work well
@lomax50: Have you managed to get that working on GDR3? If so. please give *exact* steps to reproduce. Start from as "normal" a state as you reasonably can (full access turned off, limited MTP access working over USB), and go through the full steps. If you disconnect the phone, note it. If you reboot without logging in, note it. If you bring the phone out of sleep before plugging it in, note it. If you turn the phone on before plugging it in, note it. If you log in (unlock phone), note it. I've tried many times and cannot get this working on GDR3. There is no *clear* reason why it shouldn't work, either, although the whole thing was pretty rickety before too.
It's working for me now on GDR3....
I don't have to restart to get it working, the only thing i have to do is to
uninstall the Ativ S from the Windows Device Manager and it will show up as "MTP-USB-Device"
I don't restart my PC it's working anyway
then just unplug the phone and replug it... wait a little bit and it should show up in the Windows Explorer.
Hope this also fixes it for you.

Rooted Nexus 6P - Viewing "Internal Storage" on PC

I have rooted my Nexus 6P (thanks to help those on XDA that provided assistance and guidance). I can view all "folders" (e.g., app folders, like Tasker and it's subfolders) when I use X-plore app on my 6P but I cannot see all these folders when I plug my 6P into my laptop and pull it up in Windows Explorer (using Windows 10). I could view all folders when I had a rooted Galaxy S4. So, to move files around, I've emailed them to my Nexus (or copied them from the PC) and then used X-plore to move them to the appropriate folders. Why can't I see all the app folders (for example, I'd like to copy/move my Titanium Backup files to the Titanium Backup folder on the 6P, but I can't see it on my PC). It's probably operator error on my part, but I've scoured the web (and here) to no avail so I thought I'd ask. Someone probably knows the answer off the top of their head. Thanks!

Because you have root access to your system when using a root enabled file explorer on your phone. When you connect your phone to your computer, the best you can do is view your SD card. You can't view system/root files as a drive.
Also make sure you have selected File Transfer from the USB Debugging drop down as well (Default is Charging at least on my phone)

I tend to agree on one hand, but given how easy it is to get root access to your phone and, after that, how easy it is to introduce a problem by mounting your system as a drive on your computer, I also understand why Google did that. It's actually to protect a lot of users who are smart enough to get into trouble, just not smart enough to get out of it.

At first I could only see my 6P internal storage on one of my 2 Windows 10 computers. Now I can see it on both after a Windows update (not sure why). Things that helped on the first computer was the USB driver I got from SkipSoft Toolkit. Other tricks include installing PDANet.... To get a good USB driver. I can see the internal storage when rooted or un- rooted on both computers as long as I choose "file transfer mode".

Are you saying I should get PDANet to get a good USB driver? Thanks for the tip about SkipSoft Toolkit. I installed that yesterday. Very nice. I already connected my Nexus to my laptop so it installed whatever USB drivers it found at that time. Do you know how to uninstall those drivers and force the phone to use the USB drivers from SkipSoft? I suppose if I go into Devices on Win10 and remove the device, the phone will get re-recognized by the laptop, but I'm not sure I know how to force it to use specific USB drivers. Thoughts? Thanks!

At first I was unable to see the contents of the phone with either my Asus 2 in one nor on my Dell All in One even after installing the standard USB driver via the Android SDK site. Once I installed the SkipSoft Toolkit I was able to see the contents on the Dell but still not on the Asus. That's why I installed PDANet on the Asus (that used to be solution for my old HTC (Evo, Thunderbolt and Rezound) phones. It did not seem to work on the Asus though, then suddenly, after a windows update, it (being able to see the files on the 2 in one) started working on the Asus. The Asus has a conglomeration of probably 3 USB drivers at least one of which is working without me having to uninstall the others.
