MMS problems - Nexus One General

Hey guys...just noticed today that my MMS messages to ATT phones doesnt arrive. I havent tried the other carriers yet. On my side, TMO says the message was sent. Im in US.
Any ideas?

Ive had pretty much the same issue texting my friend on att. sometimes she will get them, most often she won't. Ive also had this happen while sending a picture to someone on tmobile, but less frequently. My sim is 6 years old so maybe that could be it?

Current UScellular subscriber and of lately a friend of mine (AT&T) has tried 2 send me MMS msgs and i haven't been receiving them. she receives my MMS's, and i receive other MMS msg's from other USCC subscribers. help

Sadly, carriers do not like to play with one another very nicely. As well, are you sure your friend has their MMS setup properly on their phone? Can you send one to yourself?
I have a lot of issues dealing with people on Verizon not getting/not receiving for up to 3 days in a few occassions. My lady is on Verizon, and about once a week there will be a major delay with SMS. We don't even bother trying MMS anymore, because while I get them most of the time, she rarely does, and when she does it is usually a couple days later.
Being that I work for my carrier, I have tested and rest my account on all levels, and am certain it isn't on my end. We contacted Verizon a couple times, and they try to blame my carrier, but it is universal in my area no matter your carrier. A friend of mine works for them, and told me if there were no issues with her account or mine, it was probably because Verizon gives priority to in-network transmissions over out of network, ie verizon to verizon comes first, then verizon to carrier X, then carrier X to verizon.

For you who are using T-Mobile:
I'm curious to see what the file sizes of the pictures you are sending. I've had issues with sending MMSes too, and it turned out that the files taken with our cameras at the highest quality settings tend to be too large to send on the T-Mobile network. If you use the stock Messaging app, it doesn't seem to resize pictures properly. See my older thread here.

I just read your thread. I can take a picuture with the N1 camera and send it to myself. no problem. I can also take and send to other TMO users. So I dont know if the file size is the issue.

I dont know either but it seems T-Mo to T-Mo has no issues, but for me ATT is no go.

I haven't had any problems sending mms to my friends who are on At&t to their phone which we shall not mention...that's when they actually have a reception mind you. LOL
I'm on TMo USA. I believe the files size is lik max of 300 kb or something like that. It usually resizes it before sending anyway. I'm using hancent sms.

Yup. Seems like it's just a size cap att has. Handcent sizes irt below the 300kb. I just tried to send a MMS on the stock messaging app to a friend on Verizon, went through fine. Just seems like a little issue with ATT for now.

I have had this problem for a long time between carriers, Verizon and ATT are hit and miss from t-mo

I'm only having a problem sending MMS. I'm using the stock SMS app, but its weird. I have an open thread with several pics in it that I've sent, all of them it compressed down to 100kb-280kb. Now today, trying to send another pic (one taken with the camera) and it only compresses it down to 789kb. So of course it won't send.
Is there any way to change the compression size to do 300kb every time?

Sprint Text Message Question...

I have a Mogul running DCD 3.1.2 with sprint as my carrier. Has anyone had any problems with text messages being delayed? Scenario: I'll send out a few text messages to a few friend, and I might not get their messages until 30 minutes later and they will all be at once. This has happened on other roms so I know its not a rom issue, and the friends are on different carriers so I don't think its a carrier specific issue. The only thing I can figure out is its a Windows Mobile issue or sprint issue. Any ideas? If this is a duplicate thread, please just send me a PM to a previous thread and delete this one.
Sprint issue, try switching it to roaming then sending and receiving, it should be much faster. Try sending a text to yourself under roaming, you will notice how instant it is
keepinitgangsta,
Works like a charm in roaming. Thanks for the help. Has anybody heard when sprint might possibly fix this issue?
I had a similar issue a while back. Called sprint tech support - They re-provisioned my account (whatever that means) and that seemed to help the issue, so you may want to give that a shot.
I am having the complete opposite problem while in roaming. I have contacted sprint and got them to reprovision everything. Something happened when the official HTC rom update came out(3.35) it knocked me off the roaming list when I was back up and running. Ever since that day I cannot receive texts in roaming. I can send just fine and I continue to receive messages but they are all repeats of the first message I get when entering roaming. I got the report from verizon (the tower I'm using) and it says 97% success rate on messages sent and received. I'm going to the store to ***** but its 20 miles away and lost the battery back in a drunken stuper the other evening.
I have done hard resets and also flashed and flashed and flashed the rom with different versions and none have changed the issue. I have yet to be able to revert back to any 2.0 versions of the rom like when I got it. It says device cannot be used or something like that. I have the official roms from HTC not cooked.
This all sucks because sprints map says 100% full coverage and EVDO at my address and I just the tower image or one tiny bar and it usually drops. So I am forced to roam all the time at home.

Nexus S on T-Mobile US and the horrible MMS saga

Gave up the iPhone 4 and AT&T, and oh boy…
In the first few weeks of owning a shiny new Nexus S on T-Mobile MMS images received were blurry. That magically was fixed for myself and quite a few others.
Now fast forward, and one nagging problem continues. Receiving and sending MMS is completely sporadic, and mostly unreliable.
My wife will send something, and no sign of it ever arriving (she's still on AT&T with an iPhone 4). Same thing happens when it's a friend on AT&T, and Verizon most recently. Then, out of nowhere, it will work. I'll send an MMS, it never arrives. Try later, boom, it might just work.
At home there's decent EDGE service, and work HSPA. Vastly different conditions, but same story. Sometimes things are sent and received successfully, other times not.
Never an issue with text messages.
APN settings remain unchanged out of the box, and consistent with other folks.
Any thoughts or ideas beyond calling T-Mobile with "it doesn't work"? Last time I called them (to report the blurry MMS picture issue) it was a lost cause. Unsupported device, etc.

Funny you should mention that. EXACT same issues while traveling from Las Vegas (home) to various parts of southern California (Carlsbad, San Diego, etc.)

My goal was to share the situation in case others had similar experiences, and troubleshoot.
Yes, obviously I can call T-Mobile and say "awww shucks my thingy don't work"... genius!

it may not be the same issue exactly but you may wanna search for the blurry MMS thread and ask in there quite possibly because that thread kinda branched off into different issues regarding sms/mms

Good idea. Thanks.
This sounds strangely reminiscent of an issue I get here...
I'm on VodafoneUK and MMS works just fine - however if I MMS the missus on O2 the message may or may not get there, or there might be an 18 hr lag... It's not the most reliable thing in the world!
This isn't a Nexus thing, it's a network thing...
I suspect that if you kept all of your MMS activity to people also on TMo you wouldn't have a problem - it's when the different networks talk to each other things go screwy...
I still remember the "good" old days when you couldn't even send text messages between the different networks in the UK!
For what it's worth, I had intermittent problems both sending and receiving MMS messages. Sometimes it would work, and other times it wouldn't. I've switched to using Handcent instead of the stock messaging app, and MMS has been working 100% perfectly since doing so. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it is. At least for me.
Are you experiencing the issue when you send messages to someone else on T-Mobile or is it just happening with your wife on ATT?
It is not unheard of for MMS messages to have problems between carriers. I personally have seen more issues with ATT than any other carrier (I have worked with ATT, Verizon, Sprint, and currently work for T-Mobile).
If you are both using smartphones (iPhone and Nexus S)you will get better quality pictures if you send them as email and not MMS since that avoids the picture resolution being reduced to the file size for MMS. I believe that the current T-Mobile setting is 1000 Kb for MMS messages.
Well now this is odd. Was just sent a MMS from someone on AT&T and nothing showed up in the messaging app, yet the Missed Reminder app says I have an unread MMS!
I have cleared all data from messaging before for the sake of it.
This is driving me mental!
Not carrier but Android? Sending and receiving MMS works fine with T-Mobile users.
Handcent exibits the same behavior.

New MMS problem arising

Since the last two or three updates within CM builds, I cannot receive MMS from my friend on the sprint network, I am on Tmobile.
I simply receive the message with an attachment that cannot be downloaded. every time I click the download button it tries to retrieve the file and fails
I can receive MMS from myself and it hasn't solved the problem
the apns seem like they have had no direct changes, is something to do with my friends phone more likely or is there a cause for this? tomorrow I will try to have someone on tmobile send me an mms to see if results are different.
need some kind of answer!!! preeeezee
recently gathered info leads me to the suggestion that it is 2.3.4 itself causing this issue, as there is a whole new box called "APN Protocol" in our APN edit menu. Haven't ascertained if there is an actual fix besides downgrading to an older build.
I am having this same exact problem. I know you haven't gotten and answer and it's been a while since you posted on this topic but i didn't want to get yelled at to "use the search feature"
no one seems to have the answer. i get mms from my sister (blackberry) and mom on Verizon. (my mom doesn't even have a smart phone) but my girlfriend with her blackberry on sprint wont come through. It shows the "download" button and it fails every time i click on it.
I haven't tried iphone users yet but seems the problem is carrier specific with my phone not playing nice with others.
I am running the latest cm7 nightly build on mytouch 3g slide from t-mobile. And using the stock message app to send and receive.
(please don't tell me to use handcent or anything of the sort, i'd like an answer to THIS problem, not just a work around)
please someone help!??
Did you try changing the User Agent in the messaging app settings and seeing if it helped?
yeah, actually tried them all. I believe thats only for sending mms so the receiving phone thinks its coming form another type of device. as far as receiving mms, no luck man
on 2.3.4 ive narrowed it down to I cannot receive MMS messages from iPhones on att or verizon. Anyone else who sends me one I am able to download.
Going back to rom in my signature
hmmm, interesting cause i can verify i get from Verizon but not Sprint. And we both have t-mobile, as far as i can see
Just wish the problem was more uniform so that it would be easier to narrow down the problem
im having the same problem with SIMPLE Mobile. it seems i can send to myself and recieve from ALL GSM carriers but CDMA carriers IE. sprint, verizon, metro pcs, do not work i can click download button till im blue in the face and they wont download...any ideas??
I fixed it, or rather it fixed itself. I backed up angry birds data (the only data that matters, otherwise my girlfriend yells at me that she has to start all over AGAIN lol) using titanium. I did a full wipe, data, davlik and cache. Then installed (at the time) the latest nightly, cm7 nightly 78. Automagically fixed, at least the people I tested (including my girlfriends, which was the initial problem) restored angry birds data and donezo. Tell me if it works for you.

[Q] Sudden off and on MMS issues

Hey guys. Been using this nexus 4 for ages. I've lived in Minneapolis and San Diego and encountered this issue in both cities.
Every few months, my texting app will tell me it cannot receive MMS messages. So I restart my phone, call at&t, etc do all the necessary steps and it eventually just goes away on its own. The issue is that even when the phone says 'cannot receive', I do receive some MMS messages but some I just dont. Usually it seems to be group chat related but can confirm sometimes i do not receive photos. Today i got the error again using a group chat and I just received a picture from a different friend (who is on AT&T like me). Are there issues between carriers with group chat or something?
I gave up on MMS a long time ago, too many fails and at a cost. I use whatsapp now for images, it's only a very small price for the licence, but it's already paid for itself many times over. Of course there are other alternatives.

T-mobile Nexus 6P delayed SMS

Alright so for the past few weeks, I've been having issues sending SMS i'd send the message but the person wouldn't get the message till 20-30 minutes later. I called
T-Mobile multiple times about this issue and they reset some settings on their side but it would be every night starting at 10:30PM est til 2AM est. Whenever Tmo reset settings on their side SMS works. So a few days ago, I went to Tmo to get a new sim card and so did my girlfriend she got a new sim card who she has the
GS7 edge (T-Mobile) but any ways the problem has gotten worse and now im not sure what to-do. Weather a factory reset would fix the issue or changing the messaging app i've been using Google Messenger what else can I possibly do?
Try swapping SIM's with your girlfriend (Not sure what Sim the GS7E uses). See if the problem follows the SIM (IE, Your number/account) or the device. If your phone sends texts no problem with her SIM, Then it's not your phones problem. It's something to do with the provisioning on their (T-Mobiles) side. If it follows the phone. Compare the APN settings to your Girlfriends phone. They should match. If that all fails, You may want to try a factory reset.
I assume there is a way you could somehow see the message exiting the phone in a debug log somewhere. I'm not sure how one could do that. But I assume the phone will queue the message if it doesn't transmit. And you should be able to see that somewhere besides in the messaging app. I would also assume somewhere you can see why it's rejected by the local tower. I would imagine there is some kind of rejection message carried in signaling, But these are just my assumptions. I work in the carrier trunking business, Not the cell business. Haha.

it uses the nano sim that's actually not bad idea i'm going to try that, but before I did a factory reset on my N6P. I assume there could be a way to find out how to debug log it or anything to figure out what's going on, but i don't get since we got new sim cards why would it keep on doing it. Also that's why came here to see if anyone has been having the same issues with their N6P's on Tmo.

Well, My buddies got a N6P on T-Mobile here in Central Florida and has no issues.
I suggest swapping them SIM's because it tests the provisioning. The SIM's themselves are fine. Because they work at all. The bigger thing to test here is that your account/line is correct. And by swapping SIM's you're trying a known-good account. So it's less about the SIM being functional. And more about T-Mobile not having some kind of misconfiguration on your account. So let us know how it goes.
As for how to look into it further, Hopefully someone else can chime in. As that's outside my depth.

Nope. Still a good test. Since they are different numbers / lines.
That's strange. I have a 6p on T-Mobile as well and haven't had those issues. Stock N ROM and using stock Messenger app.
I also work for T-Mobile, where do you live?

I live in South FL, Stock 6.0.1 MM using stock Messenger app. I went to a T-Mobile store and they said it was because my phone is a "Unlocked Phone" and they also blame it on the network is "congested" but my girlfriend she has the GS7 Edge and it only happens when i text her and it starts at 10:30PM messages get delayed but with the double texts they have always been like this. even when I had my N6 from T-Mobile. So now i'm not sure what to do, if a factory reset on my device or on her phone also or what....
On my 6p, no matter what settings or apps used, I had mms and sms issues whenever I had wifi calling turned on. My issues were late and undelivered messages. Had to turn off wifi calling.

I don't have wifi calling on, and now I have issues with calls the phone call breaks up. And I will have to hangup and try and call her back but it goes straight to voicemail til I wait 5 minutes then call again and she said it was the same for her, when she tried to call me back. It would go straight to voicemail after the call breaks up and there is all this feedback.
