not needed on the 32A as it has 288mb ram, the 32B only has 192mb, so some choose to sacrifice the graphics ram for system ram at the cost of 3D gaming. Is your 32A slow?

Check RAM

Hey,
Can someone tell me how to check how much RAM is available on the HTC Magic please?
Have you tried searching the Market? There's quite a few apps that will do this.

Can anyone tell me the best ROM to put on this 192MB version for maximum performance?
nk02's Ion ROM or SPF's European ROM (see my signature)

I would say either nk02's or Smartphone France (also goes by European ROM).

You are? Really ?
I've seen several video of the Hero now that's it has gone in several reviewers hands and none is reporting any slowdowns.
The hardware of the HERO is much like the one you have (except for the camera and the 3.5mm jack).
From the videos is running very nicely with no slowdowns at all..
Weird...either we've got a buggy version (may be a release candidate) that has leaked earlier.. or.. don't know..
I thought it was running fine on Magics with 288Mb of RAM...
anidel
Im running Hero 1.4, i have no slowdowns at all, so maybe you did something wrong when installing?
ive heard the hero and magic are almost identicle in hardware specs wise.only thing hero has on it is a 3.5mm jack and a dedicated camera button.look on youtube for htc magic running hero rom and youll see that the htc magic should have NO problems running the rom.you just have to find the best rom that doesnt slow down the magic.

any info?...
I'm using 1.2 and it's smooth. I had to remove the weather widget, and set facebook contacts to update manually. Most of the lag is caused when apps are updating (stocks, weather, FB, etc..)
Rogers 32A here btw

Samsung i7500 / Galaxy

Anyone tempted? I'm thinking of getting one. From what I've read, better screen, better memory, better camera, standard headphone plug etc.
I am...just because of the amoled screen.
Better do some more reading on it. It comes with 128MB RAM (less than half of the Hero or Magic) and the same size screen (3.2" 320X480) as the Magic or Dream, just has AM-OLED.
Here are the specs.

comparing the rogers magic to the mytouch is lame.. anyone using the mytouch is gonna be on tmo & since the rogers wont get tmo's 3g its not in the same comparison..
edit: of course since the op didn't mention a mytouch it may be of comparison to them.. Also however there sig says htc magic which I believe means its the same as the rogers..
Sure tmobile could offer beefier fones, but they don't, but the fact that amoled is not being offered else where, I would get it just for that...

Wasn't comparing the Magic to a MyTouch, I was comparing to the Galaxy that was asked about by the OP.
Sony's Android phone Xperia X3 will have AM-OLED, since there the guys that own it.

Well that's just annoying. Why would they do that. Does that imapct speed also, or just the amount of apps you can install?
Otherwise I may have to get the Hero, if I can find a black or charcoal one.

Nothing to do with installed/installing apps, it's the amount of memory the phone has to run apps and the OS (forget Sense or anything like it). Infact the Galaxy is supposed to have 7.5 GB of ROM according to the specs, tons of room to install. Just limited on how many you can run.

That confirms it. Bugger all for system RAM.

I'm getting one anyway, people that use it say it's fast and has no lag, plus the other benefits like the screen, earphone jack, flash, does it for me. Considered the Hero but seems to be too many complaints for my liking, gap at end of screen, bad reception etc.

Actually Magic have 192MB RAM but when initializes radio and other ****z remains only 96MB for the system. Rogers have 192 and i7500 have 128MB

Wrong, Rogers Magic comes with 288mb of RAM and 512 of ROM (Same specs as the Hero minus the Camera). Quite a bit of difference between it and the 32b boards your refering to, and absolutely kills the Galaxy's RAM. Here are the specs if you care to be informed.

You have 288 RAM but kernel see ~192 because of the radio and other stuff memory requirements. You have no access to full 288MB.
I think I repeating myself

My Magic (32B) sees 96 and I think that Galaxy should have 128 free after initialization, because if it use ~100 for radio like HTC there will be no available RAM at all. Maybe Galaxy have separate memory for Radio I don't know

Why is 32B so unpopular!?

I have a HTC Magic 32B and i've noticed that 80% of ROMS on xda are for the 32A variant. i just wanted to know what was the major factor making this model so unpopular with developers!? thanks
Go to the G1 section. Search more, qq less.
So your saying the 32B will flash G1 ROMs? that is great news. thanks!
They're just jealous that you have an entire bra size larger than them

Just make sure you flash something that says it's compatible with magic/mytouch, because magics use different h/w to the dream, so if you don't WiFi wont work, can't remember what else (bluetooth?).

among other things they have less RAM than the 32A.
If memory serves... 32A(288Mb) vs 32B(192Mb)

Yup, a third extra, but that makes them more expensive if you're buying from someone other than a carrier and 32s aren't available from carriers in all parts of the world.

It probably refers to storage on the /data partition on the NAND (space available for installing apps), not RAM.
EDIT: I believe RAM is seperated in to two, x amount for the system to utilize and y amount for the Dalvik VM
No Magics that officially support Sense have less than 288MB RAM. The only device with less than 288mb and Sense UI is the HTC Tattoo (256mb).

so, any more ideas how to cinfirm that 32A has 288MB??

That app is showing either the RAM designated to the system (/kernel...?) or Dalvik VM, either way it doesn't matter, if it's 32A it has 288mb - end of.

I'm pretty sure he means system RAM, not storage memory for applications. The 32B (Mytouch 3G) has the gimped 192MB of system RAM, while the 32A (HTC Magic, Mytouch 1.2) has 288MB.

The rest of the RAM will never show up in any app as it's system reserved. If you had a 32B you'd see a value of approx. 100mb of RAM there, not 200mb like you do.

hd2 with 576mb ram

hi i was looking at a thred that says hd2 has more memory then 448mb it actually has 576mb i looked at mine at it says in the hardware information i do indeed have 576mb but when i go to the 'about' it says 451mb so do i have 576mb if not is it possible
you already have it. the hardware takes 128 for graphics.
look on a stock rom and it would say 448 in hardware and 320 in storage info
oh great so is that the maximun ram hd2 has or is they more hidden lol is it safe to say the hd2 is prob the most powerfull phone about

you won't use all that ram anyway. its damn near impossible to get the leo to use all the stock ram, let alone the extra.
(dont forget, extra ram doesn't make it run faster. a bigger petrol tank doesn't make a car go faster, so you aren't missing out on anything)
lol ok great thanks supprised htc didnt just give people the extra ram in the stock roms thanks for you help

Anyone figure out the MyTouch 1.2 memory map yet?

Since the mytouch 1.2 runs 32B firmware, it can only use 192mb of its 288mb total RAM, right? But i heard that if one were to flash a 32A kernel, the ROM wouldnt boot, so im curious if anyone has made a specialized 32B kernel for the 1.2 that also used its full RAM? Thanks in advance .

Wow, can't belive i missed that, will take a closer look when i get out of school, thanks!
EDIT: Great, looks like I'll have to learn how to build a Kernel....****. lol.
