Anyone figure out the MyTouch 1.2 memory map yet? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Since the mytouch 1.2 runs 32B firmware, it can only use 192mb of its 288mb total RAM, right? But i heard that if one were to flash a 32A kernel, the ROM wouldnt boot, so im curious if anyone has made a specialized 32B kernel for the 1.2 that also used its full RAM? Thanks in advance .

EDIT: Great, looks like I'll have to learn how to build a Kernel....****. lol.

Question about internal memory on mytouch

So mine says 279mb will the Hero Rom be able to be put on this phone and experience no lag or do I need to get the unbranded Sapphire? After using my G1 with the Hero Rom I would like to use that rom but I know the mytouch hasnt been rooted yet
Your looking at the amount of ROM your phone has not the RAM. Your phone has 192MB of RAM which I believe is the same as your 1G, you just have more storage for apps.

well devellopers are working on optimizing the hero roms as much as possible in order to be able to run it smothly on the 192MB Ram Magics.
So once the Mytouch is rooted its just a matter of time till the already optimized roms are ported for the mytouch! and some already made roms should work fine on the phone itself without the need of ports having to be made...
In this case you must look at 32B roms

Pls help me MAGIC

i got the MAGIC,think ab up rom to HERO rom,can u guys tell me,when i up to HERO rom,i can do 100% wat the ORIGINAL HTC HERO have?or it will miss something?thanks alot, waiting for ur reply.
yes, it has all the features, they just may not be working... you'll just have to be patient on that front...
the hero actually is not even compatible with 3g in the US, so technically once the ROMs are perfect, you'll have more features, but if you have a 32b version magic, then it'll be slower than the hero...
the magic 32a version and hero are basically the same minus the camera, so performance should be good if it is a 32a
How do i know if it is 32A or B?i have mytouch from US TMOBILE

Worth getting a Magic?

Just wondered what peoples opinions were. I know it's a bit outdated hardware wise but it sounds decent enough for most things.
Does 2.1 run well enough? My understanding is that 2.1 ROMs support all h/w. Does Gallery3D run well enough? Seems like the only thing in Cyan's 5 series ROMs that I'd want to push back in. FYI I'm talking about AOSP ROMs, none of that Sense UI crap.
Is rooting still as easy FlashRec? I'll be buying a UK 32B Magic, probably a vodafone device, debranded if I can find one though.
I just got mine. Had to root with goldcard, but still pretty easy. I can't say enough good stuff about it. I'm using a 2.1 rom and everything seems to work well.
First get a 32a...
The magic is outdated already and getting a 32b is just making it worse... The only good thing about 32b is that it can run G1 roms
Second Cyanogens 2.1 ROM runs fine on Magic
T-Mobile also reported that Magic will get either an official 2.1/2.2 Android update.. This is only for the MyTouch though, but developers here will probably make it run better on 32a...

The goldcard is for flashing to a previous build which can be comprimised by FlashRec, correct?
Goldcard shouldn't be too hard, I'm just worried about flashing SPLs, almost shat myself flashing 1.33.2005 to my G1 >.<

The 32A isn't sold in the UK, only 32B by Vodafone, and for what it would cost me to import one I could by a Nexus :'(
I'd really like to use Cyan's ROMs too, my G1 was always flashed to his latest ROM
Has anyone tried Gallery 3D on theirs? It's the only part of stock 1.6/2.1 I really can't stand...

I use 3D Gallery on my Mytouch 1.2 (which is a 32A device) and I've never had problems with it.

Why is 32B so unpopular!?

I have a HTC Magic 32B and i've noticed that 80% of ROMS on xda are for the 32A variant. i just wanted to know what was the major factor making this model so unpopular with developers!? thanks
Go to the G1 section. Search more, qq less.
So your saying the 32B will flash G1 ROMs? that is great news. thanks!
They're just jealous that you have an entire bra size larger than them

Just make sure you flash something that says it's compatible with magic/mytouch, because magics use different h/w to the dream, so if you don't WiFi wont work, can't remember what else (bluetooth?).

among other things they have less RAM than the 32A.
If memory serves... 32A(288Mb) vs 32B(192Mb)
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general

Yup, a third extra, but that makes them more expensive if you're buying from someone other than a carrier and 32s aren't available from carriers in all parts of the world.

well I have black Magic, sith SenseUI (not by Google, but by HTC, and not rooted) and it's 32A! According to all sys info apps you can find on the Market it has 192MB of user memory!

It probably refers to storage on the /data partition on the NAND (space available for installing apps), not RAM.
EDIT: I believe RAM is seperated in to two, x amount for the system to utilize and y amount for the Dalvik VM
No Magics that officially support Sense have less than 288MB RAM. The only device with less than 288mb and Sense UI is the HTC Tattoo (256mb).

well as I've wrote previously - my Magic is 32A, and I know that by booting in SPL ;-)
But I've asked you for a way to confirm memory size!
Here's what System Monitor app tells:
so, any more ideas how to cinfirm that 32A has 288MB??

That app is showing either the RAM designated to the system (/kernel...?) or Dalvik VM, either way it doesn't matter, if it's 32A it has 288mb - end of.

I'm pretty sure he means system RAM, not storage memory for applications. The 32B (Mytouch 3G) has the gimped 192MB of system RAM, while the 32A (HTC Magic, Mytouch 1.2) has 288MB.

The rest of the RAM will never show up in any app as it's system reserved. If you had a 32B you'd see a value of approx. 100mb of RAM there, not 200mb like you do.

quick rom question

Nandroid backup, try a different rom for a while and find out.
Opinions often vary especially here on the MyTouch side because so many people here have a 32a device which is different than 32b in regards to hardware. 32a devices would have a better experience than 32b because it has more memory. My opinion 4.2.15.1 with 96mb swap/32 swappiness was best for G1 and CM6 RC2 without swap or compcache is best for my MyTouch 1.2 device. But that's just me. Your opinion might differ because your needs differ. So yeah, try a different one and find out for yourself.
thanks for the reply
