I have 2 mail accounts set up on my phone. Both are Google Mail, one is done with Activesync (for calendar and contacts as well), the other is just a plain IMAP account retrive.
The Activesync one will sync over either 3G or Wifi depending on availability.
The plain email one doesn't - with the 'advanced server settings' set to connect from network connection 'The Internet' it will only work with Wifi. To use the 3G I need to change this setting to 'T-Mobile Internet', at which point it will only use the 3G. Not ideal really, and I can't work out how to overcome this. I was expecting it to use whicever was available when 'The Internet' is selected.
The Activesync options are slightly different in that there is only one network connection option called 'Internet'.
Anyone got any ideas?
I have ROM 1.48.405.2, WWE, on T-Mobile UK.
Some guys had to remove the proxy settings of their 3G in order to get it to work as expected.
Any more for any more?

I have my email set to check for new mail every 30min
I have it set to check using "GPRS Settings"
My choices are:
GRPS Settings
MMS Settings
My Work Network
My ISP
Work
The Internet
What I'd like is that when I am on my Wifi network that my email uses Wifi to connect and when I am out it uses the GRPS settings. The outgoing mail servers are different for each location even though I am using the same account.
I don't think that anything can be done, but I thought i'd check. Thnx.
So I've searched the forums for ever combination of email, error, synchronize, and synchronizing and have found no answer to my question. I have AT&T Wireless and I just upgraded my ROM and reloaded the WAP settings. I can surf the internet fine but whenever I try to receive my email in Outlook I get an error and am told that my connection settings are wrong. When I tried another set of wireless settings I could get my email but not get on the internet. Any idea what the problem is?
I have the exact problem that I'm trying to figure out.
I'm using T-Mobile with Schap's WM6 ROM v3.57a.
If I use "My ISP" with the T-Mobile wap.voicestream.com access point, I can get email, but the internet connection (PIE, streaming media, weather updates) fails.
If I use the "Work" connection (with the T-Mobile proxy settings), the internet works, but email fails (Error Synchronizing).
Anyone have an idea of how to get both to work together? It used to work fine...before I updated the ROM (the last time it worked was with LVSW's 3.24.0.4 ROM). I believe it stopped working after I did my first "official" ROM update with the DOPOD release.
On that note, I think the Connection settings options are different for this new release. I could have sworn that I could add proxy settings for the default "My ISP". As it stands, it only allows Modem setup with access point setting.
On inspection, I think this is T-Mobile's evil doing:
1) My wife has an 8125 (WM5), and hasn't changed anything. She could do both, now only her email works - no internet.
2) I went back to the LVSW ROM. Same behavor.
I think it was a coincidence that it stopped the same weekend I updated.
I think we're screwed.
...At least with the T-Mobile $5.99 plan.
Okay...just to continue this conversation with myself, it appears I spoke too soon.
The good news is I got both to work.
I didn't realize that when I set up the POP3 email, I had to select "Work" instead of "The Internet" for the Network connection (in the "Advanced Server Settings" screen).
Like, DUH!
Excellent. But I'm not sure why the change had to happen. I know I never made that setting before.
Unfortunately, I still can't get Windows Live Mail to work anymore. But, I'll live. I was more concerned with the POP3 stuff.
Hi there,
I have set up my POP3 email account on my HD (though have set to leave messages on server) and it works fine on Wifi (checks, downloads, sends, etc). However when I'm not on Wifi and I'm on TMobile data (HSDPA, 3G, GPRS, etc), I get an error when I try send and receive. It comes up with "error synchronising" and a popup appears at the top saying...
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings." If I go into settings, I get the list of connections, but can't see anything in there that needs changing. I'm on T-Mobile in the UK, and it lists "T-Mobile Internet" and "My Work Network". If I go into the T-Mobile Internet settings everything seems fine in there. And it all works when I go into the web browser, or Youtube app, etc.
Its almost as if the mail app doesn't have access to the data connection unless its over Wifi. Is there something I'm missing, or an area where you can tell it when to use the data connection? I've even tried manually enabling the data connection through the comm manager (rather than it starting when an app needs it), then switching to mail and clicking send/receive - still the same error.
Thanks,
Dave
Can anyone help me? I'm not sure whether its connected but I also have a problem where another programme (Lotus Notes Traveller client) doesn't seem to be able to get access to the internet connection on the phone, regardless of whether its Wifi, 3G or anything else.
Thanks.
this may sound odd but bare with me! i can get on the net and emails but my hd would not check emails when in standby no matter what i did. I then realised i couldnt send or receive mms messages! all the settings seemed ok. Anyway in my mms connection i changed the wap setting to 1.2 from 2 and my mms worked! But since then my phone now checks email in standby! I didnt realise they were connected but may be worth checking.

How do you change that wap setting. I have the same problem, but on T-Mobile USA
Hi,
I found I could sync emails using Wi-Fi ok but got the dreaded "failed to sync" message when using the GPRS method. I am also on T-Mobile.
The problem is T-mobile only let's you send emails using there smtp.
You need to go into the email options menu and keep clicking through the settings until you get to the send using smtp box, here you need to type smtp.t-email.co.uk
This will send mail using the T-mobile network.
Please post back if this helps

Thank you - works perfectly for me! Good call!
Hi everybody!
I have a little issue using my work's exchanger server connectivity on HTC Touch Pro.
Issue: To access internet, my provider uses their "walled garden" APN, which allows me to access their services & general web.
This APN, however fails to work with Exchange.
To overcome this, they have given me another APN, which allows me to access Exchange/Push & Internet but not their services.
Now, it is really, REALLY annoying have to change APNs every time I need to access different info (web vs. provider's page) and I have not been able to find anywhere to specifically point Active Sync to use the required APN as it only has option for "Internet", which I assume is the generic active access point
Dialling rules also are useless as I'm using HSDPA with no proxy to access web.
Apologies if this is all too confusing and thank you in advance for your assistance

Thank you!!!
So I have done that and can have 2 multiple APNs running at the same time!
It seems, however, that both connections have to be "ON" at the same time as when all APN are disconnected, it doesn't chose the correct data account but always the one that is higher on the list.
Is there a way to overcome this - is there a way to prioritise which data account I want to be used first?
Thank you again

Hi, I have a HTC Kaiser with BlackBerry Connect and I don't have the issues you describe. BBC creates it's own APN which is not used for anything else. In 'Connections' I have 'My ISP' set to use the Vodafone APN I manually defined. Under normal circumstances BBC keeps its own APN connection active, if I open IE or another app that uses the Internet then the Vodafone APN activates and the apps send their traffic over this connection.
One issue I have is that there is no way to disconnect only one APN connection, when you click 'disconnect' both APN connections are closed, however a few seconds later the BBC one reactivates.
EDIT: Sorry, scratch that... For some reason I though you were using BBC - don't ask me why, obviously my brain was wandering elsewhere. But back to your original problem. I don't use Exchange ActiveSync and I don't know if you can configure ActiveSync to use a specific APN like BBC? You might be able to configure the Exchange Servers URL to be in your Exceptions list so it uses your 'My Work Connection' instead of the 'My ISP' and therefore uses a different APN? I am not sure if it would work, but worth trying?

Hello fokes,
When i had my HTC Vox i could easily receive mails with POP3 settings. The only problem was that i had to connect to my home network to send mails.
Since i have my TP2 i cant get connection to my mailbox using the mobile phone connection. If i log on to my home network everything go fine, but with 3G in don't receive my mail at all.
It was possible in the past, so it should work right?
Of course Exchange servers exists, but thats not an option for me (just home mails).
So is it possible to receive pop3 mails on my phone using only a 3G connection, and how? i tried it several times now but didn't get it done jet.
hmm... strange.. care to elaborate more??..
Do you mean u can check mails using gprs but not with 3g/hsdpa?
I'm using an Asia/Singapore set, but i can check emails pop3 in gprs/3g/hsdpa all fine..
i wonder if you can default your internet conection to 3g, so it won't automatically pick up edge.
are you connected to the PC when you check email? try changing your settings to only use 3g, that way you're forcing 3g to be the only connection to work. also, can you surf the net with 3g?
pop mail
Strange with my tp2 it works fine.
Are you sure it is allowed by vodafone.
At my phone I can send and receive mail.
Are you sure you used the right settings.
I think you did not use the right pop and smtp settings.
What provider are you using for your mail?
If you send me a personal massage I can answer you in dutch it's a little easier.
thanks for the replys
first of all my internet works fine using gprs/3g. i have 3g standard so i just called it 3g.
te settings of my mail accounts are correct. if i login to my home network (wifi) i receive my mails perfect and can send them.
sending mails over 3g/gprs did never work because i normaly use the mail server of my internet provider. so i can only sned emails if i use their connection.
in the past i had the htc vox (only gprs) with the same mailaccounts and providers. receiving mails worked perfectly, sending not.
i suppose it doesnt matter if i use gprs or 3g. didnt test it jet
i dont know of my providers uses restrictions.
gsm: vodafone
pop3: active24
smtp: tiscali / telfort
i know active24 has now exchange server support. perhaps they changed te servers and made it imposiible to me to connect with a phone without using that exchange server
@rodus: i will contact u if nessesary (afther this post). thanks for you help (to all)
mail settings
If you use your active24 smtp settings it should be possible to send mail with your phone. I found this settings on the active24 site maybe it will help you.
http://www.active24.com/sw17854.asp
thanks, this settings are not the one i used before (the one i got from active24.nl).
I can now send and receive mails after i used that settings and switching of the using of a proxy server connection.
because the proxy i couldn't access the pop/smtp servers.
now i only have problems with the mail client (from energy rom leo). editing acounts is not possible and auto send/receive seems not to work, but that is an other problem.
Thanks alot for the support
