T-Mo Germany G1 @ CM 4.2.13 is soooo slow - G1 General

Hey there!
Sorry my english isn't the best and I hope I picked the right Forum... And I hope I haven't overseen something in the search.
I got a "little" Problem with my G1.
Most of the time its sooooo dammit slow...
For example: You can't call someone from the list if you use the call button. If you press is short the phone is so slow that it recognize the button-press for a long time. so the voice-dial-dialog comes on...
Or go from one homescreen to another... It hangs, lags, everything!
To the phone:
It's rootet and has the CyanogenMod in version 4.2.13. the SD-Card is 4GB and Class 4. Formatted like this: 64 MB Swap, 512 MB for Apps-to-SD (if I remember right I should have it formattet to Ext4... otherwise it's Ext3), and the remaining space for everthing else.
Some day's ago I removed much of the installed Applications, but it's not better. Then I wiped it with the bootloader. but still it's not better.
Reflash CM doesn't work, too...
Has anyone an idea what that could be?
Thank you!
Greetings,
Alex
PS:
I deleted the Cache of the Browser, etc. too... no effect. I got roundabout 500 SMS if that's interesting...
[edit:]
Update:
Now I've done the userinit.sh again to enable the swap... It seems that there was the mistake. I think it's faster now. I'll tell you that was the answer...

JacxHero problems

So first off, id like to thank Jac and Drizzy for the wonderful work they have done on the OS, its BEAUTIFUL! The only thing i dont quite understand is why is it slow even with a class 6 SD Card? I dont understand, the thing is MANAGABLE, but pressing home sometimes takes forever! a good minute or so, or when opening an application, such as Phone or People. Loading the onscreen keyboard is a bi**h as well!
Does anyone have any ideas? Its supposed to run fine when you have a class 6 and you utilize the SD card, but maybe im doing something wrong?
Someone want to help me out?
i will try to answer this in a polite way. its not made for your phone and it runs somewhat choppy even on htc hero. widgets=lag. are you using a linux-swap partition? you should be. can't remember if compache is supported, but if it is, are you using it as well? if you can use it, you should. did you reformat your ext2/3/4 (not just wiped it but straight up reformatted it) before flashing the rom? if not, you should. did you follow the step by step instructions in the thread on how to set up for it? follow them exactly. anything else... most hero roms have a slow down affect that they suffer from after a period of time, so could that be it. hope some of this helps.
As David said, Hero is laggy on the G1, and it's gonna stay that way. This is mainly because the Hero has 288mb of ram, and the dream has 192 (that's a 96mb difference). There's no way we can fully make a up for only having 2/3 of the ram from the Hero, but linux-swap and compache is all we have. I found that a 64mb linux-swap partition on JacHero 2.73 works pretty well.
It's like running Windows Vista Ultimate with Aero on an Intel Celeron D Processor and 512mb of ram.

download overclock from market
and then set the max settings to 385 and minimum to 380.
hero roms run best at 383mhz
and plus download and flash jacxhero 1.1 its a lot faster and smoother than 1.2 i noticed and i asked other and some noticed as well
what i dont like jac's rom is the ease of flashing...everytime i flash i have to reinstall apps.but in drizzy apps u can flash any of his apps wichout wiping ext3
so far drizzy 2.2r2 runs best out of all his roms.

Leo is awfully sloooooooow

i bought my leo some month ago and everything was working fine.
but since some days, my leo is S.L.O.W!
even typing a sms is difficult: i have to wait 5 seconds between typing 2 keys... when i switch it on, i have to wait for 30 seconds between the time i've unlocked it and the time i'm on sense.... what's happening?
i'm with the rom 1.43. does it run better with another rom?
3 things; soft reset your device then take a read in these forums on the SMS problem and fix.
After that look for the threads that discuss the benefits of upgrading your rom.
Use this to find what you are looking for...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
WB
i already looked at this sms problem.
but it worked fine for 1 month 1/2
seems that HTC need to hire the good chief we have here.
i reset the phone everyweek
i'll look a bit more in the forum
Have you installed any 3rd party 'Start Menu' or 'Shell' programs? Your problem is almost certainly a software conflict. I saw the same thing a few times with Panoramic Launchpad.
Hmm, to me that sounds like the memory is full - I would recommend to check the RAM.
I learnt recently that the camera cache in RAM can fill up.

Hmm,
No sorry, not right. Ram is volatile/semi volatile memory where things like the album cache live. ROM is read only memory where the operating system lives.
If he has memory problems then it will be in the RAM not the ROM.
To the OP, you could try Memmaid to see if that clears up your problem.
WB
No, please read again.
Cheesy Dave was talking about the camera cache, which fills up the ROM, not the RAM!
The OP also stated that he does regular soft resets, and those 448MB RAM can hardly be filled anyway, so IF he has a memory problem, then it's with the ROM, as Cheesy Dave already correctly stated.
OK,
You say ROM, I say RAM. You say Pohtahto, I say Potato, you say Tomayto I say tomato..... Either way it would appear he has a memory problem or needs to investigate potential memory issues further.
If the OP explores the myriad of threads on here about moving various caches to the SD card plus using a memory cleaning tool like Memmaid then he won't be far off sorting his problems out, which, I think, is what he wants to do. Would you not agree?
WB
PS: To the OP - you might also want to consider using a task manager to ensure that applications you have finished with are properly closed off rather than minimised, taking up valuable memory space.

Yes, that's what he should do.
Particularly, he should look at the following folders:
\Windows\Youtube
\Application Data\HTC\HTC Album
The may have filled up his ROM
RAM is volatile memory, but that's not where those cahces live, they live in the ROM. RAM is only for running applications.
Slow? Not really.
This is the best WinMo phone up-to-date.
Coming from Iphone 2g one can get true sense of multitasking, full exchange support, multimedia is on par. I don't even see problems with keyboard because I am used to capacitive screen. Everything just seems right.
All in all, I am more than satisfied.

True, same here.
In general, the Leo is FAAAAST...
But there may be a problem with the OP's Leo that makes it slow. Maybe not enough memory left or something.
If deleting the caches I mentioned before does not help, save all your data try a hard reset.

phone memory full

strange problem with the phones memory being full
seems to be loading kb files on but takes up mb space, just loaded a 3.5kn file but took up 30 mb space
any help would be great
Full because you have probably installed every app onto the internal memory. Reinstall them onto the SD card.
While you are at it, read this thread for tips on how to maximise your memory space....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Also use this..http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all if you ever need to find anything here on XDA.

il explain a bit more. i dont have a HD2 im trying to sort this for a friend, i do have the touch pro 2 and i have never had to install apps on the SD card, i must have 30/40 apps on it (games TC resco etc ) and i still have loads of space
my memory reads
storage total 283mb used 166 free 117
program total 188 used 110 free 76
i have never got anywhwere near full
my mates HD2 is new and he has added very little in terms of apps(1 or 2 at the most ) but when i got to it today it only had about 35/40 mb free
i added the 4 short cut cab instead of the standard 3 short cut tabs and it used 30 mb of memory
something does seem right with this or is it that the HD2 short of memory

have you been downloading any stuff from internet / opera browser?
The HD2 is short of memory but it shoudn't be a problem having some stuff on SD card.

The HD2's shortness of memory is only relative. It still has 145MB free Storage after a hard reset, which is a huge increase on previous generations of WinMo phone before the HD, and TD models.
It is probable that users are inadvertantly storing photos and videos in main memory rather than the SD card. Add this to the effects of the Album and Browser caches and the memory can get filled up.
C-G: There is no way that a simple tweak installation would cause this problem. Either your friend has failed to notice something else, or there is some sort of major problem with the device, or somwe software he has installed.

theres no photos videos etc taking it up, i check all that i removed shazam that it saidd was 50 mb but only freed up about 5 mb
as for the app i installed it myself on his phone and it went from 40mb free space to 11 mb free in one go very strange
You are right, it does seem strange, and unrelated to other threads on this issue.
If you (or your friend) are really adventures you could give MTTY a go. It sort of formats the internal memory. After that flash a fresh (shipped) rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616422
Combat,
Its me again. In the thread I pointed you to it also tells you how to move the album and opera caches to storage card. Have you tried these tips?
If you do and you still have problems then backup the data on the device, do a hard reset, then on reboot, check the available memory and use that as a startpoint (compare it to the public specs to make sure you are there or thereabouts). Then reinstall all your apps onto the external storage card (not the internal memory) and see what happens.
Oh, one more thing before you do all this; install Showcase, which is a task manager, and see what programmes are running in the background that you thought were closed. These eat memory and can cause the symptoms you allude to.
Whatever you do, DON't go playing with MTTY. Its an advanced tool and you can do some serious damage if you don't know what you are doing.
I am confident that if you follow the steps here you will solve your problems.
If yo don't, return the device for an exchange.

...i had problems with internal memory, i think were problems of programs cache like htc album, opera...i tried with SKTOOLS for cleaning temporal archives and this work ok
thanks for all the help i have pointed my mate in thedirection of this thread , and once tried i will post some feedback that may help others
thanks again
Are you really sure. As wacky.banana suggested, I would return the device as faulty first.

As the others have said, there is something seriously wrong here
Shazam is actually less than 1MB in size, though saved tags may take some space.
If this is showing as 50MB and it isn't being recovered there is something drastically wrong.
still trying to sort this out yesterday my mate did a hard reset so he could start from scratch to add things and see how the memory goes
he no informs me that since the hard reset he has lost camera, keyboard functions etc dont have full details yet but this isnt normal, i hard reset my TP2 a couple of times a month flashing new roms then doing hard resets and its ok
any advice would be great
thanks

Tell him to stop messing around and return this as a faulty device
He's now had 2 major issues with different aspects of the phone- memory allocation and now camera problems.
It is likely that there is some sort of fault with the memory chip itself leading to internal memory errors. This may also explain the other hardware issues if the device is trying to load these services into an unaddressable memory location.
Hello, I am a newbie, but one frustrating factor I've been dealing with is that there is virtually no information on the "cheaper" tablets. I have a ZEEPAD I purchased from Amazon. It is a lot of fun for a VERY small price.
However, now I have a memory problem. After resetting the tablet, it shows that my internal memory is full, even though there are NO apps installed. I cannot install anything from the market; all installs fail because the tablet detects or thinks there is no memory available.
I have an old CRUZ tablet, and I can get into the program by holding down the + volume when pressing the power button, but that does not work with this tablet.
In the "info" section of the tablet, it states that this is a TWD_MID tablet, android 4.0.4. There has to be something I can try before I have to ship this back to China. Please be understanding of my "newbie" status.......
I have the same issue with mine! Weird, wonder what the deal is? I hope someone with some knowledge of this can help us because it is an fun tab especially for the price..

To the two previous posters- this is the forum for the HTC HD2 so you won't get any relevant advice for your tablets.

Internal Memory getting eaten up

hey all ~
I have the internal memory widget installed on my homescreen and it shows that i have used up 130 / 159 mb on my sprint Hero.
this morning, I had 126 mb used up
my text messages were acting REAL slow this afternoon, so i booted up the Flipz kitchen (0.2) and backed up/deleted my text messages. works great now. but that added more crap to my phone's memory
What I've done to my phone:
rooted under windows
loaded recovery img
flashed Fresh 1.1
have like 60 apps (I could get rid of at least 5 of em right away, prolly more)
176 contacts - w/ Facebook connect
loaded custom bootscreen - some nexus one / hero hybrid thing with sound
custom theme - ClearLock w/ Stock icons found on geekfor.me/kitchen/lockscreens/
I feel like my phone is running out of internal storage. Am i overracting? Is it actually okay? what can i do to free up some space? how long will this much space last?
I don't want to do apps2sd, it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
thanks all, and sorry if this is not really a problem!
~Jimbo
I just wouldn't go below 10mb of free internal storage, otherwise you should be fine and any preformance issues you may be experiencing are most likely caused by one of the apps you have installed.
Also I remember hearing reports of the phone bugging out when it reaches over 70 apps. I'm not sure if that's still an issue but I'd tread that water slowly if you know what I mean.
prior to this phone, I had a blackberry that bugged out if i had too many messages displayed. I'm not worried at all about the SMS app slowdown

Phone Storage is getting low!

I'm running Myn's warm 2.2. The thing that really gets me is I have 41.94 mb available. I could fit dozens more apps.
Is there any way I can change when that stupid low memory thing go's off. I would like to change it to something more reasonable like 10mb.
Did you do a full wipe before flashing your rom....you should have way more space than that....
Sent from my rooted evo using the xda app....if I helped you, please click Thanks!
I did a full wipe when I flashed my rom like three weeks ago. It's low because of apps. It's just it seems like that annoying notifaction shouldn't op up when I have that much space
Im all stock and had the same problem after i got a furbed phone from sprint. Was werid, I actually DL 4 apps and then said the same thing and then deleted all of them and STILL said it!
I had the same problems on several roms I found most of the space was taken either by the address book storage, or calendar storage clearing that and let it re sync solved the problem. I would recommend also going with roms that have the delvik cache moved to the cache partition that gives you about 80 megs more space. A few of the developers out there have that tweak.
Tips to increase available storage aside, I really wish there was a way to turn the notification off or adjust the threshold. To me, 10% is too high. You can still do plenty with 41MB left.
Yeah, I got that the other day. I bought a Class 10 16 GB card so I can do apps2sd. *sigh*...too many apps.
running ava Z1 and i still have 231 MD free
Do a full wipe & manually restore everything, it'll do more than just a dalvik & cache wipe which only seems to free up a few MB of internal storage.
Tedious but a healthy habit.
I had the same issue....check out the thread

This is a refurbed phone I got a month or so ago. I do have way more than 4 apps though!
Just today when I updated my apps I got a bunch of insufficent space errors, with 40.89mb's free. Are there any apps that I can use to check how much space is left besides settings-sd+phone storage.

I think your link is broken. Doesn't work when I click on it.
Why not download App2SD from the market place and move some of your apps to the SDCARD. This will free up space from your phone's internal storage.

Thanks for fixing the link! I'd actually read that before. My contact storage is a whopping 3.7 mb yours was 157mb. You fixed yours by chopping your contact storage by chopping your contact storage way down and switching completely to a apps2sd.
I don't really think that that is the solution, in your thread there was a guy running cm 6 that got down to 12mb left. I can't get down below 40mbs without getting insufficient space errors. It seems like there must be a setting wrong somewhere.
What I recently did was installed Dark tremors a2sd on my phone. It actually moves all your apps to sd and frees up so much memory. It's frickin awesome. First you have to partition your sd card if you haven't already. To do so you must first create a backup of your sd to your computer as prtitioning will wipe the sd. Also I only now how to partition the sd using Amon RA recovery, it's much easier than using clockwork. Partition up to ext3.
To find Dark Tremors flashable zip go here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=apps2sd
I'll tell you what, if you cant figure out the rest, PM me and I will give you my number to help walk you through it if you need. Good luck.
BTW, I'm also using Myn with about 95 apps and have 227mb left in my phone.
did you check out the app that lets you explore the "app usage" on your phone. It should help you figure out what is eating all the memory.
I think you are probably going the wrong direction in terms of just trying to lower the low space threshold or get rid of the warning. 40mb will dwindle further and further until it creates other issues, and there is TONS of space on the evo, you need to address the low space issue, not the notification.
Use that app and browse through your internal storage, if you cant figure out whats eating up your space i *highly* recommend you root and install darktremors a2sd. I hate messing with my phone and trying to do that kind of stuff and i really had no problems when i finally caved and did it, it was all pretty simple and the instructions are laid out well.
