Internal Memory getting eaten up - Hero CDMA General

hey all ~
I have the internal memory widget installed on my homescreen and it shows that i have used up 130 / 159 mb on my sprint Hero.
this morning, I had 126 mb used up
my text messages were acting REAL slow this afternoon, so i booted up the Flipz kitchen (0.2) and backed up/deleted my text messages. works great now. but that added more crap to my phone's memory
What I've done to my phone:
rooted under windows
loaded recovery img
flashed Fresh 1.1
have like 60 apps (I could get rid of at least 5 of em right away, prolly more)
176 contacts - w/ Facebook connect
loaded custom bootscreen - some nexus one / hero hybrid thing with sound
custom theme - ClearLock w/ Stock icons found on geekfor.me/kitchen/lockscreens/
I feel like my phone is running out of internal storage. Am i overracting? Is it actually okay? what can i do to free up some space? how long will this much space last?
I don't want to do apps2sd, it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
thanks all, and sorry if this is not really a problem!
~Jimbo

I just wouldn't go below 10mb of free internal storage, otherwise you should be fine and any preformance issues you may be experiencing are most likely caused by one of the apps you have installed.
Also I remember hearing reports of the phone bugging out when it reaches over 70 apps. I'm not sure if that's still an issue but I'd tread that water slowly if you know what I mean.

prior to this phone, I had a blackberry that bugged out if i had too many messages displayed. I'm not worried at all about the SMS app slowdown

Why is my memory so low?

I have a verizon xv6800 and it only shows 19MB of free ram (in Running Programs). It also only shows 47.46MB total program memory and total 164.41 storage memory. I though it was supposed to have 64 MB total program memory and 256MB total storage memory?
some of each is used by the OS, memory issues with the phone have been known since day 1, alot of the custom roms help the ram issue by disabling uneeded services, you might want to look into those
I looked at some of those ROMs and they still show like 20MB being used when everything is closed (with about 27MB or so free). I guess my real question is why does it show my total at only 47MB ? vs 64MB? hidden useage by the OS? If so, then why is 20MB in used after a hard-reset? visible use by the OS ?
yeah, 47vs64 is hidden by the OS, used fro shell and other things you cant kill
20vs47 is other stuff, services, autorun programs, today plugins, etc
Hey i would suggest getting oxios hibernate/memory app. It really does help. Sometimes i go from 78% usage down to a 55% usage with one tap of the program. I currently am running at 49%, which is not bad at all.
But why do I start with 20 megs on a reboot...but can never get back to it...even after I close everything AND use oxios...Why are there 3 instances of the phone app running? Can't close em...
I NEVER get back to 20! This is really starting to piss me off.
I just flashed DCD's newest rom, and I got about 27.41MB. After installing about 10 apps (some and some aren't ram dependent), and now I have 24.84MB with a fresh soft reboot. Which, I think, is still pretty low, but it is definitely better then the VZW shipped version.
We have to face the facts. We got a very crappy set of software with our Titans from every provider. MS dropped a load when they saw all the complaints and the people leaving for the Iphones. A few lucky people have been fortunate enough to test our new verson of WM6 and so far everyone says its much faster and alot smaller. This phone has the most horrible hardware support on the market atm as well. This should be greatly improved with the next rom from HTC. Do not forget everything you put on your phone is based off of bad code and bad hardware support. Every mod out there is 2nd rate untill we get better stuff from HTC and microsoft. Bottom line is you have to wait for the new ROM.
Does anyone have any clue when the new WM 6.1 Rom will be out? I love my titan but my god its slow I am seriously thinking about defecting to an iphone just cause its faster.

You possibly could create a custom ROM and then change the Pagepool size. That should get you well over 20. I'm using DCD 1.6.10 Kitchen and changed the Pagepool size to 4MB. That increase available Program Memory to 27MB after a fresh install of the ROM.
having more memory on this phone will not make it run any faster or better. It becomes an issue only when you run out of memory running applications lie PIE, Opera, Picsel, ETC.
I'm running DCD's 1.6.10 Rom with my configuration and apps I have installed I still get 24.8 megs of ram free and I havent soft reset for atleast 24 hours.

Problems with MT3G speed/lag

Hello, ive been having some issues with my MT3G over the past few days and ive noticed my phone has been lagging a lot even after rooting, installing latest cyanogen rom and using compcache. here is my setup:
mt3g 32b
cyanogenmod 4.2.11.1
Compcache default settings
lock home app in mem, otherwise i get reloads
i think the problem is that random apps keep turning on by themselves even after i kill them with advanced task manager. phone lags, i check task manager and apps like amazon mp3, market, messaging (i use handcent), locale (i now uninstalled it), settings and other random apps and i never launched any of these apps. so i kill all the apps, the phone runs fine and fast but about 1 min later other random apps load again and i have to rekill them. what gives? ive tried wiping and reinatalling to no avail... why does everyone else seem to have constantly fast mt3g's when i have essentially the same setup?
Seriously, no one?? Come on guys, at least someone has some advice?
have you tried changing your linux swap instead of compcache? Also, have you tried the ram hack?
I'm not sure why you have those things turning on again. I don't have that problem with my mt3g
double post
Thanks for the reply, I don't use linux swap (apps2sd?) considering the phones internal memory is quite a bit. I read about the ram hack but I use the phone for gaming quite a bit so I don't see how I would benefit from that. If linux swap really does make the difference then I guess I have no choice. The only thing that worries me is the sd card wearing down because of it although it doesn't seem to be much of an issue with G1 users or am I wrong?
linux swap is not apps2sd. it gives the phone more virtual memory that it feeds off the memory card to make up for the lack of ram over the 32A. ext is where the apps are stored for apps2sd, but the phone does not need that.
The ram hack only makes 3D gaming suffer. Games like ProjectINF, RoboDefense, Pacman, etc don't suffer from this. Even then, some 3D games still work fine for me, like Toon Warz.
And not the SD card doesn't really go bad, it has on some people, but even then, most sd card come with 5 year warranties. My transcend comes with a lifetime warranty, so you shouldn't worry about it.
Thank you, that cleared up a LOT of my confusion! I read somewhere that Amon_Ra's recovery image will setup linuxswap with one of its commands (partitioning?) or am I mistaken?
it partitions it into the 3 sections. fat32+ext+linux swap. This is what I did. However, this will give you the ext which will transfer all the apps to your sd. you can however, delete your ext if you don't want that using parted in adb. from there, you can use the swapper app and set it to your liking. I use 64mb and 40 swappiness.
Thanks for the help Tazz, linux swap made a difference. There's still a small lag sometimes but much less than before and less frequent. By the way, swapper seems to have been removed from the market for some reason.

a2sd installation

Ok, so I followed some instructions I found to see if a2sd was installed properly, and it was, but I've installed some apps and my free memory inside my phone is around 33 MB... (not ram) Anyone knwo why a2sd would be installed correctly according to the instructions I used, and why the phone says I have such little space left?Last time I checked, it was 99MB

There was a thread just like not more than 30 minutes ago.
Anyways, check your widgets load out as they could be pre-fetching or eating your ram. I had a similar issue and ram kept dropping until it was around 29MB. Weird thing is that I then wanted to try to setup an alternate setup on the stock launcher, and when I tried loading a widget there, it forced closed the launcher and when I checked my memeory at that point, it was back solid around the 110MB point. I switched back to Sense with my widget setups and had no problems since.
you might also try to not use things like pre-fetch on widgets such as News and Weather, and shut off auto updates for items you don't use.
You can also just ry removing all widgets and starting again to see if that does the trick.

Not ram... not ram... not ram.... phone memory... the internal phone storage.
And I was wrong, its not down to 33... it used to be near 100MB free, now dswn to 71.83MB free space. Not ram
But while I am thinking about ram, I start up with around 78MB free and consistently run at around 58MB

low storage memory..help

hey guys never posted here before..i did some searches and didnt see anything i could use so i fig id ask. memory storage one my verizon imagio is so low i couldnt even open youtube. i deleted a bunch of pics... walpapers and other stuff that seemed to fix it for a while. i was seeing 25kb of rom i loaded a new slider lock and now im at about 12kb...so i deleted more, still at 12kb. i need to know where this storage is...and how it goes overnite so fast...suks..thanks guys. not good with this stuff so go easy..thanks
1. Backup any and all files you wish to keep.
2. Get the HSPL unlocker and unlock your phone. Can be found at ppcgeeks.com.
3. While your on ppcgeeks download one or two of the custom ROMs
Look for a ROM that has left out the VZW bloat. that will free up memory and resources.

Are you sure it is storage memory that is running low? There are two memory "bins" on these phones. Storage memory is where you store files, etc. Program memory is where programs you install reside - this is where programs "live" while running.
Are you running a stock Imagio - no modifications, just like it came from the factory? If so, there are several memory "leaks" (programs that use memory and then do not release it when exited) and much bloatware (programs that almost nobody use, but still consume memory) on the phone.
I have to agree with the previous post - load a new ROM. I use the Energy ROM, but try out a few to see what you like.

the magical free 50MB?

So I rooted my Nexus a while ago to be able to move apps to the sdcard to have some more space to install new apps.
But I could not move all apps like music or facebook.
Now after another while I sat over this again cause I was running out of memory again on my phone.
I finally got rid of many apps on my phones internal memory (had to remove apps and install them again, that works for almost every app it seems).
I managed to get over 50MB free on my internal storage.
What I do discover now is a massive speed improvement. Especially when it comes to smoothness.
Even more interesting when I update apps it happens that the space hits the 50MB mark and drops below that. When this happens the overall smoothness immediately drops also.
As I never read about it I wondered if that is known?
